Spin the Wheel, Spin the Wheel Spin the god-damned wheel already! The wheel-spin game at Duffs is one of the best ways to spend the gloaming hours in between sober and drunk. For $3 you ante-up and get to spin a wheel with prizes like "bartender's choice shot" and "hand-job from the bouncer" on it and i must say that in the MANY times i have done this i have always gotten something decent (no hand-job yet thank you very much.) The wheel is not rigged to screw you and really seems to have more good than bad stuff. Oh and they have $1 cans of pbr (have for years-unlike all the follower bars), good shots and one of the best juke boxes in town. I love duffs! Been here quite a few times and I'm never disappointed. I'm into metal, so it was quite a treat to find someplace like this. The decor of the place is so unique; it's almost like a museum. The bartenders are very friendly, engaging, and seem like they genuinely enjoy what they do. The best part of all are the prices! The drinks are fairly cheap. I have had nights where I've only spent about 20 bucks and had a decent amount of drinks. They aren't watered down either. I must say, this place is amazing. Too bad I live so far away or else I'd be here every single week. But I will continue to support this place by recommending to friends. read more

Ngl I had been excited (pun not intended) by the prospect of seeing porn on TV according to Phil H's review but when I went it was just some old movie playing on the screen. BOOOO. However, I still fell in very much like with Duff's. I was a little wary going in because tbh I'm not a huge fan of metal music, but it didn't bother me at all. It was mainly playing in the background and not so glaringly loud I had to shout over my piles of shots to talk to my bf. Did I say piles? Yup. We got shot after shot because it was so cheap (I assumed so because my bf had no reservations paying.. wait but he's like that all the time. Oh well - see previous reviews for the affordability, but I'm still pretty sure his wallet didn't bleed). My jack and ginger was a little watered down, ngl, but my bf came up with the brilliant idea of just ordering shots of jack and chase it with beer. Woot! The decor was just out of this world. I was so fascinated by the various metal band and horror movie paraphernalia on the walls and even on the ceiling, as well as a random drum stick glued to the wall beside me. Went to Duff's last month for what was at first a meet and greet for a former female wrestler that turned into a dope all nighter hanging out with her and a few others. Duff's although not being the typical bar I would go to being mostly heavy metal based, was actually a cool little bar in the Marcy area of Brooklyn. Inexpensive drinks and a cool crowd, Duff's was a dope go to on a Friday night. They have a small lounge seating area in the back of the bar if you attend here with a group of friends. You may miss the bar at first being that it isn't openly visible at first. It is more of a downstairs in a building on a block on Marcy which kind of fits the atmosphere of the area and bar itself. If you're into heavy metal and live in or close to the area, Duff's a bar for you. read more

This is def a rocker bar but still fun. Everyone wears black. Prices for PBR are super reasonable. Even tho I'm not into rock I still enjoyed my time there. Everyone was polite and friendly. I would think death metal hard core people would be rude. Nope. Every single person including the staff was super nice and polite, when they needed to get past they would do it so elegantly. Best bar I visited in my week stay in NY. Incredible memorabilia for all metal fans. Goatwhore, Suffocation, Mayhem, Amon Amarth have all been here and many more. The ambiance is rad, the bathroom is super dark and eerie. I feared having to use it for #2 as you most likely can't visualize a clean wipe. Bartender and staff were all awesome, drinks were cheap and there's cheap pizza right around the corner. Love this part of Williamsburg. Keep doing what you're doing Duff's, never change! read more

If you are a true metal enthusiants- (is that even a real term for us?) then you will love this place. This new location isn't as cool to me as the out of the way location on kent, but it still has that trash of class I love. Expect to find a one of a kind jukebox, that always changes and keeps you guessing. Duff's sums up metal to me for New York. You can head bang to Judas Priest, PANTERA- my favorite, Slayer, and Amon Amarth while you look at the cool horrorbily artwork and collectibles. I have to complain that the new location will draw more hipster folk. I hate that. I think this place needs its purity, but hey, if they are cool with the music and shouting-more power to you. I don't belong in this place. I don't look like I like metal music and in reality I kinda don't. I don't have any tattoos. All of my t-shirts have the sleeves completely intact. But regardless of whether I belong, I love this place. First off, $1 PBR's from 6pm-9pm every day. Second, you're always going to get interesting characters in the crowd, even if that crowd is only 5 or 6 other people. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, one woman was there with her boyfriend for an hour or so. Then, on her way out, she gave my friend her PBR and said she would have been hitting on him the whole time they were there if it weren't for her boyfriend. And, occasionally, the staff looks out for you. After making the LONG 5 or 6 foot walk to the bar from our seats to buy beer, my friend decided to cut down on some trips and order 10 PBRs at once. The bartender said NO, 10 beers at once is nuts, he couldn't do that. So he gave my friend 8 beers. It's dark, it's dirty and they play a lot of music I've never heard of. This is the one and only bar in all of New York that I feel the burning need to bring my friends from back in Ohio to - it will be the crown jewel when they visit. I mean, seriously, how can you go wrong with a $3 spin-the-wheel game that might land you in the gimp cage for twenty minutes, make you drink Bailey's out of a lubed condom, possibly have to eat a dog bone... or simply (and uneventfully) buy you a top shelf shot of whatever you want? ALL WHILE LISTENING TO SLAYER AND DRINKING A DOLLAR PBR?! Everything about Duff's is metal - from all the aforementioned, to the crazy drunk-ass-drunk bartender girl, to the disgusting ladies' room, to the actual metalheads and metal fans hanging out here... this place is obviously too hardcore for the lighthearted or fair-weather metal fan. Saint Vitus offers a pleasant and white-washed version of metal, if you desire your vegan treats or your plaid-shirted metal dudes on the verge of hipster-dom... but at Duff's, you will find true metalheads, with unwashed, stringy hair, and patch-filled rock vests, likely acquired in the 80s. I have been frequenting this place for about 4 years now and its without doubt one of my favorite bars in the city. If you're into dive bars and heavy metal, this is the place for you! If you're NOT into metal but dive bars are your thing, well.....THIS IS THE PLACE for you too. Don't be a jerk off. It's IMPOSSIBLE to come here and feel out of place and like you don't belong. Anyone is welcomed in this joint, and I've seen it all. Besides the metal head clientele you will see: Goths, hipsters, Hasidic Jews, average joe schmoes, businessmen and women, hip-hoppers, geeks, everyone and everything. Its always a great place to come and meet interesting people, all the time. The bartenders are always hot and attentive. The drinks are always affordable (every day happy hour from 6-9pm serve 1 dollar PBR!!!) There's this interesting gimp cage that you can possibly be placed in, a cool dart game where you can win a small sum of money and/or drinks. It's dope. The bar is big, spacious and plenty of seating. You can get food and bring it back with you to the bar while you pour down some cheap drinks and get your gobble, gobble on. There's always something weird being played on the screen and of course, there's metal being played all the time. The best time to come is on weekend nights to experience the creatures of the night. Duffs is one of my favorite bars in the whole wide world. It's the kind of location that inspires an intensely devoted following. Every inch of the place reeks with personality, the bartenders are cute and friendly, the drinks are cheap, and the jukebox is amazing. I dunno if I'd necessarily call it dive-y as it's too well established and tidy, but it's a helluva place. Which is not to say Joey Baseball Cap will like it. It's a metal bar through and through. You'll watch horror movies and scream Amon Amarth songs and take pictures sitting on a coffin lid next to a corpse. Greatest bar ever. I do miss the port-a-potty and general filth of the one on N. 3rd and Kent, but whenever I'm back in NYC I always head here. Can't beat $1 PBRs at happy hour, which runs til 9pm every damn day of the week. The wheel kicks ass, and for a mere $3 a spin you can possibly win beers, t-shirts, dog biscuits, or my favorite - the Coney Island Whitefish shot. I landed on that and didn't know what it was, but was pleasantly surprised when I was handed a condom filled with whiskey. The selections in the jukebox get updated all the time, so you can always find brutal metal or gems like GG Allin. I LOVE DUFFS! Get your "Gone to piss/smoke" card while you visit! It is a metal bar with great tunes on the jukebox and super cool people. You can get trashed here all night, and/or socialize after shows. If you're hungry, don't worry. Right around the corner there is an excellent Puerto Rican restaurant open real late. I went recently with a friend after wanting to go for ages and it was great but quiet. I think we were there earlyish...I can't be for certain as we made a few stops that night. Awesome bar. Came drunk late on a Thursday, place was pretty empty but everyone that was there was friendly, bartender included. Great non-internet jukebox (Iron Maiden, Danzig...too drunk to remember the rest). There's a cage, and a wheel of punishments/rewards (I think one is "15 minutes in the cage"), and a dentists chair. Red lights everywhere. Had so much fun, can't wait to come back. read more
