We are beyond impressed with Duffy Roofing!!! They just finished our very tall, steep, large roof in Jamaica Plain -- for a home built in 1890 that is tightly sandwiched between multiple other homes. When we were asking around about the best roofers for projects that involve doing a roof on a big old house that is tricky because it is so close to other homes, Duffy came up time and again. After working with them, I can see why! Let me break this review down in a few sections, all of which are equally important: Quality of job One word: impeccable. The Duffy team knows their roofs! Their consultation on how to approach the roof, what materials to use, etc. were all spot on. The day of job was executed flawlessly. Communication Garrett and the Duffy team really stood out in their area. They let us know when the roof would be done, how long it would take, how they would protect our plants and house, and much more. For a huge project like this, it's great to know what's going on. Neighbor relations Again, our house is SUPER close to our neighbors' houses. I felt like the Duffy team spent a level of time and attention addressing neighbor concerns, and protecting their homes, as if they were their own neighbors. Pricing I won't quote their pricing since every roof is different, but I felt it was more than fair given the materials they used and attention to detail they gave to the project. I am editing this review because I think it is important. He is now saying that I never told him that it was leaking in my unit. The audacity that he wants to make it a "he said she said" to cover his work is pretty awful. He said he is not a person who fixes the vents OR the chimney but he told us that the vents were cracked and had them fix them before he did his job. However, he didn't mention anything about the chimney and the state that it was in. When he came back with my management company he said it will eventually need to be done but it should be fixed after he flashed it. LOGICALLY having it addressed at the same time would have made more sense. He told me that the soft spot in the roof (where the previous leak was) was normal. That because it is a 100+ year old building I would be able to find a few more spots on the roof the same (def haven't) The bubbles at the seams he said were normal and chemical reaction that is fine. He is rude overall. Not pleasant to work with and has no tact. I would never recommend him and the only reason I had to use him was my HOA decided to. read more

We had a positive experience with this company from start to finish. After a recent storm we had a leak in our ceiling that needed to be fixed. The first company who came out insisted that we needed to replace the entire roof even though it's less than 10 years old. They barely even looked at the roof itself or tried to find a source of the leak. Duffy came out, spotted where the leak came from, gave us a quote on the spot, and fixed it. Brett was very communicative and available to come out and do an estimate soon after I asked, as well as provided a written estimate. He apprised me of any delays and also gave us information to pass on to neighbors so they could move cars or be aware of what was going on. I called Duffy Roofing as my neighbor had used them last year and was very pleased. Brett Duffy came out and gave detailed information and estimate about what they would do. I thought the estimate was fair, even generous for what was to be done. They were responsive to my scheduling needs as well. On the appointed day, those bright red trucks appeared, and five men got to work immediately. I could see the detail of the workmanship especially where a dormer met the main house. Clearly superior work from what had been there. Already it is clear the addition of a ridge vent has made a great difference after a three day heat wave. Today is the first break in the temperature and the attic has already cooled down. I found Duffy to be professional from beginning to end. I would recommend them highly. read more

Called them based on their fabulous Yelp reviews, as the Winter of 2015 had ripped my front gutter off of the house. It took him a few days to call me back, he set up a time to come out and take a look, and he was right on time for that appointment. He gave me a reasonable estimate, told me when to expect the crew, and then called back an hour later to see if they could come over NOW as they were done early with another job. In fact I would also liken them to the military in their ways of swooping in well equipped with three shiny red company trucks, doing the job with precision and utter professionalism, then bugging out with nary a sign they were even here save for the immaculate and precision roofing job they left behind. This was my second time around with Duffy Roofing - they replaced the roof at my former condo building in Jamaica Plain and did a great job. My former neighbors recommended Duffy and Phil came by, was easy to deal with and quickly drew up an estimate. The job was done very quickly, with great workmanship and with immaculate clean up. This time around, at my new address the job was smaller - replacement of porch, gutters, porch roof, etc. Once again, they did an amazing job and were in and out quickly without a trace of having been here - no mess or debris. Just got a new roof on my little house. November 2018. Duffy was really great. Love my new shingles and their workmanship is high quality. Not much for hand holding ahead of time but extremely efficient and craftsmanly once on site. Very professional crew and procedures. Duffy is a busy, in-demand company and they need to fit big, complex jobs into variable weather windows, so I suspect the 1-star bad reviews relate to their heavy workload and unpredictable conditions. read more

I called Duffy Roofing recently about a leak I have in my kitchen ceiling. I received a call back from Joe Duffy. After I described the problem to Joe, he took the time to ask me some more questions about it, and then described how I might be able to fix it myself. I was extremely impressed with Mr. Duffy's professionalism, and the fact that he took the time to discuss this with me in such detail. I can't imagine how this company has so many 5 star reviews unless they're relatives of the owner. We hired Duffy Roofing to re-roof our Dutch colonial house 11 years ago. A crew came in, stripped the main roof and finished the job in two days. 3 years ago, the IKO shingles they used failed (guaranteed for 35 years) so we needed to replace the roof. My son who has done roofing for 30 years offered to re-roof our house. He found that the skirt and the additions to the house had more than 3 layers of shingles on them, clearly a code violation. And 11 years later, I'm still picking up nails and pieces of shingle that were never cleaned up after Duffy completed the job. This is a company that should be a the bottom of any homeowner's list of contractors to hire. read more

My property suffered major damage with the March 2 storm My rubber roof peeled back pulling all the roof vents out with it. I had water coming into 3 apartments it was a mess for me as well as my tenants. I put a emergency call into Duffy roofing and was contacted within 30 minutes the storm and high winds lasted the night but on Saturday morning at 7 am they told me they would be there to make the repairs and they were :) unfortunately the roof was a total loss :( so with future storms in the forecast they sent a large crew to untangle the old rubber roof and add patches and and reattached it as best it could be to protect the building from further damage which it did . Last Monday they were there :) finally there was a break in the weather and they completed the whole roof in one day before the next storm was forecasted. This was the best call I made when a neighbor recommended them to me. I know others that are still trying to get there's just repaired while mine was already completely replaced . Nobody likes to hear that they need to replace their roof, but when you know the time has come... then you need to make sure you hire a top notch company and hope to get a fair price. I had Phil of Duffy Roofing give me an estimate a few years ago, I instead choose the low bidder. After leaks started to develope in the third floor I knew I needed a roofer again. Phil Buzwell was the same estimater and he remembered me. He got a crew out the same day, he explained what the last contractor did not do and what he could do to make it right. I only wish Duffy Roofing did sheetrock work (I have a lot of water stains). I hired Duffy to replace my gutters several years ago. When I shortly afterward noticed that water was coming through a corner joint, I called them several times, but couldn't get them to come and fix the problem. They blamed it on my gutters needing a cleaning, but when I had my gutters cleaned I was told that the joint hadn't been sealed. I still couldn't get them to repair the joint. Later I noticed that one of the gutters either wasn't angled properly or else required another downspout at a corner, because water collected there and poured over the top of the gutter. Now that I just had major ice dam damage to my house, when my contractor went up to the roof line, he told me that my gutters were installed several inches below where they should have been, way below the bottom of the flashing from the roof edge, which would have allowed the ice dams in the gutters to much more easily get into the house.
