Today I woke up to no power. I notified the outage in the Lady Lake area and within 30 minutes two trucks were dispatched and arrived. There were 6 homes in the area without power of which they were able to return power to everyone but me. The crew worked diligently for over 4-5 hours, digging a hole which was waste deep, to discover that one of the 3 wires providing electricity to my home was accidentally hit by another company using a bore (sp?) to run wire for another job type. This crew from Duke Energy worked in the pouring rain to replace this piece of burnt wire in order to replace my electricity. I'm deeply appreciative for all their hard work as the alternative was to temporarily run wire to my home above ground and have a third party to fix the issue. HUGE SHOUT OUT TO THE CREW!!! Like I said paid the full balance off only to be told I have to way for service because the last tenant left a high bill that has nothing to do with us. We're in the house food in the refrigerator the lights was still on cool beans well this morning they hit the lights there off I have a 2 year old here with that I can't feed any hot food to because there telling me because of the last tenant we have to wait 24/48. Worst power company we have ever dealt with! Set up new service at new home. No deposit and no fees required! Great! This was May 3rd of 2026. Fast forward to June 19th 2026 and we get disconnected after paying a $400 bill. Which we could not get an itemized copy of until paid. Then they proceeded to state that deposits were owed and past balances were owed from over 10 years ago?! We were in shock. We just paid it all. Around $500 total to restore service for our kids sake. (It was a triple digit weekend in central Florida). Our attorney will be getting involved and we are looking into solar now. read more

It is no wonder Duke gets terrible reviews. It took 24 hours and five calls to complete my start up across the hall from where I lived for 6 years. Had to have Experian. Experian after 4 try's, never unlocked my account. Meanwhile, I finally talked someone into using my payment history so I could complete the startup process which took forever. I think I am finished and a guy gets on the phone trying to sell me internet service. I told him I had been in my apartment for a month and had everything I needed. He insisted on talking over me about Spectrum. I hung up on him. Duke should streamline the startup process and leave out selling other services until they master one thing. read more

The WORST customer service I've ever had. I wasted over an hour on the phone speaking with 3 different "agents" only to get nowhere. Second agent actually told me that everything the first agent said was incorrect and she'll have to write up a report for him. Third agent told me that the second agent was incorrect. Third agent gave me a different department's phone number to call to speak to a 4th agent and now it's past closing time. They also speak at the speed of a snail. I just need things fixed, I don't want to be asked how my day was 2+ times in one call...with the same agent. And how come one agent could transfer calls and another agent couldn't? Almost feels like Duke purposefully wastes the customer's time so that we'll give up and just pay the bill. read more

Given "credit" turned out to be someone else's payment now I owe At the beginning of April I received a payment into my account that read as "credit due" to me from Duke Energy. This automatically paid my March bill, and at the end of April I received my statement for the month, which stated that I owed $0.00 and had money on my account that was "credit, do not pay". However, this month (May) my statement was over $600, which was this month's electric bill and the credit amount deposited in April that had been used on my previous bills, which I apparently now owe. I called to dispute this charge as I had not received any emails regarding any billing mistakes and I was under the impression that those bills were taken care of with the credit. The representative then informed me after a brief investigation that I did in fact owe this amount because the "credit" was actually a payment which had "accidentally been applied" to my account instead of an account with a similar number. As a struggling college student who splits utilities with roommates I do not have this sum of money available and was told that I will have to pay it. I was given a payment plan which splits the amount into two payments, which will be added onto my July and August bills. Besides this menial gesture, the lack of responsibility taken by Duke Energy in this ordeal is shocking, I received no emails and was only able to get an answer about what had happened after an hour on the phone and two separate representatives and was offered no support for resolving this issue beyond the payment plan. This kind of negligence is appalling considering it took over 2 months for them to realize the mistake and I was not notified that it was a mistake just charged for the bills I thought were already taken care of. read more

assistance This month, we had to pay about $350 when our average monthly bill is about $165 all because they are charging us extra to pay for those getting financial assistance in getting their bills paid. We are also in need of financial assistance, but we're not going to take advantage of the government like most currently are. My power went out at 4am this morning. I called, I am not fond of any automated system but it did direct me to a real person. The first person I talked to listened and then sent me to another who would know what kind of help to send. The dispatch guy I spoke with was knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and by 6am a truck was in front of my house. I answered the questions asked by their employee and volunteered some history of power problems before Duke was our power company and what he said it sounded like and what would happen when they got here was exactly what happened. It was 6am on a Saturday, their gadget gives me full power to the house until they can come out and replace the main cable from the street to my house. The man who came to see what the problem was was professional, and obviously knew what he was doing. I have NO problems with Duke energy. read more

Is anyone else extremely disappointed that our state and local reps allowed Duke Energy to raise our rates? To be clear, this is a monopoly that they allowed to raise rates in a community that is already humble and modest. I bet that regardless of political affiliation, this resonates with many of you. I think it's time that we speak up and be there for each other to share our discontent to both our local and state reps but also to the Duke Monopoly. I had made a payment of $300.00 electronically, which they were unable to find. After two weeks I was told by them to have my bank cancel the payment and resubmit, which I did. A week later they found the original payment information and applied it to my account but of course by then the funds had been returned. I have the Duke Energy home protection plan and lightning knocked out my 70" TV and an overhead light fixture, both of which are supposedly covered by my protection plan. The strike was so severe it blew concrete blocks out of the side of my chimney and tripped 2/3 of my home circuit breakers. Duke Energy sent out an electrician who confirmed the light fixture and tv were not working but said he was not qualified to determine if lightning was the cause. When I contacted Duke Energy again they said I had to take my TV to a repair service to determine the cause of the failure. The closest service to me is a Best Buy 50 miles away and they charge $125 to do that diagnostic. In all, I paid $650 to replace and install the new TV and $150 to replace and install my light fixture, without any assistance from Duke Energy. This coverage by Duke Energy is not worth the monthly payments I have been making for years and I strongly advise against signing up for it. read more

My meter was mixed up with a neighbor in a townhome community for 3 years and they refuse to refund me the entire amount owed!! It's well over 4,000$!! The lady Deb in the executive offices had no problem telling me I'll be getting screwed out of all my money. I think within 30 seconds of our conversation she told me that. The woman I spoke to spoke to me as though my ancestors had wronged her people and so she was going to exert dominance in the conversation. The service they provided had unnecessary extra steps in it, I got transferred several times and had to give my contact information to several people, including a robot. My Social Security number was taken and a soft credit check was completed without my knowledge then I was transferred to a third-party without being told they were a third-party and they also took my contact information before trying to sell me something. Before I was transferred, I asked for clarity about who I was being transferred to and the customer service rep was purposefully vague and then after I was transferred, I asked why I was transferred and they were vague again. read more

Meter Rolling During Outage: Amazing! Our mo. bill was actually more with no power for days. Questions: How is it possible to have a higher elec. bill post outage? Why is the meter still running during a full outage? Just a few observations abt "big energy" FL Nuclear Power: Since we have 2 active nuclear power plants, why are energy costs cont. to rise. This deadly source was suppose to revolutionize energy costs while simultaneously polluting the planet with nuclear waste & cancer. Where are these delightful sources? Homestead, Jensen Beach, & Crystal River. Two are near the most hurricane prone area in the nation--FL--Ft. Pierce/Miami/the Keys. I have been having power issues for many years now and Duke refuses to address it. I've had multiple linemen tell me that the main issue is the mile or so of trees on my street growing through and touching their lines. After I had one of these branches fall and almost bring a sparking line down on me, I requested they perform tree service on their right of way. After 10 days they came by and lazily refused to do any work. The frequent power brown outs caused by these trees have ruined an Xbox, three cable boxes, two modems, and my AC. My complaint is on the repair program plans that they offer. I have three of them but the one I am writing about is the sewer repair line. I had an issue with sewer backing up in my shower and I had to call a plumber because it was on a Sunday afternoon. After I paid for the repairs because I had to repair the problem immediately so I thought I could get some money back on the repair work that was done on my sewer line. The Duke Energy representative said I did not use their contractor so no they could not give me any money toward the repair. So I asked if someone could have came out on a Sunday to fix my emergency situation and they said no it would have been two days later. I would imagine these plans are helpful if you don't have an emergency but if you do they are not helpful at all. I decided to cancel the sewer and water repair line programs because I don't know when something will fail and it looks like I would need to know that before these programs will be a benefit for me. read more

This is absolutely the worst power company I have dealt with. We have tried multiple times to get someone to come out and repair a bad junction box. When we just called again today because someone failed to show up for the last 2 appointments, they said they have nothing in the system for the issue that we are having. Then said they won't check in with the office, because we are a business, because they have guns pulled on them all the time. We are a resort there is NO excuse for them not repairing what is broken. I have guests without full power because of this issue and it is not something our electrician can fix because of the junction box belonging to Duke. I am going to give Duke 5 stars. I live in a rural area. In Florida, ,we have never had an issue with them. As a matter of fact, we went through Hurricane Ian with 80 - 90 mph winds. Never lost power. I was amazed. Been living in Florida for 65 years. A+. Be happy electricity is regulated. I had an electrician come to check into two problems. He said that our voltage was low, that there was a voltage drop from the transformer to our house that made our appliances and such work too hard. He gave us the voltage numbers, suggested we call Duke, and left with 130 large from our checking account. We called Duke. They came quickly, I will give them that. The guy tested the voltage and came up with the same numbers as the electrician. But he said they were within the acceptable range. I asked a further question or three, but he kept repeating the same two sentences. I guess they are trained to avoid upgrading electrical systems by hiding behind those phrases. Atrocious customer service and AR department. Although my payments are sent early because of their payment applications problems, their Accounts Receivable department doesn't seem to be able to properly apply those on time payments. As a result, Duke bombards you with email, phone messages, and snail mail threatening to disconnect your service if you don't pay your bill. Even though I've provided them with proof of payment from my bank, they refuse to take responsibility for their errors or apologize. The only thing they say is "don't worry - I'm sure if you paid the bill it will be applied." Complete waste of time, effort and resources (both mine and theirs) because their systems apparently don't work properly. In addition, their website doesn't always work, and after contacting their customer service department, being placed on hold a 2nd time with no explanation, being disconnected by Duke (at least they called me back 10-15 minutes later, although the call appeared as "Spam" on my caller ID), they indicated that they would need to "put in a ticket" as they couldn't resolve the issue themselves - and it would require some unknown amount of time to resolve. Duke energy customer service is so inferior it's beyond frustrating. We all know electricity is overpriced, so I invested in solar. Somehow Duke energy still cause me pain. The solar department is not very knowledgeable and as a result you feel things aren't being ran right when you still get a nil saying you "used" their overpriced energy. The rebate program department takes weeks upon weeks to get back to you about the smallest thing, thus making the process extremely long. It's just sad you don't have on choice on things like this. The experienced Duke tech also smelled a gas leak, alerted Teco Gas and they worked together to restore our electricity and fix the leak. Duke energy allowed someone to fraudulently open a power account in my name not once but twice with nothing but my name and stolen social security number. They did not do any other form of identity verification. I have opened many utilities and every one required proof of residence and at least a drivers license. With all the know digital security breaches all over the country in the last few years with social security numbers exposed, not requiring identity verification other than a social security number is negligence and makes them party to fraud. I contacted the company several times and they refuse to help or even give me all the info they have on the account. Apparently they believe it's me enough to send me to collections and ruin my credit but not enough to help me undo the damage they willfully allowed in my name. I made an official BBB complaint and will by filing a law suit. I encourage anyone else in a similar situation to do the same. 0 stars should be an option these people are criminals. read more

Our area was barely touched by the hurricane, no damage around. Fixed all our neighbors within 24 hours, going on 72 hours with no power at all. They claimed it was fixed, sent out a text.. except it wasn't. So now it had to be resubmitted for repair, and 24 hours later it's not even past dispatched. There has been no communication from them at all regarding this except "please be patient". I understand they had a lot of outages, it was a very serious storm. But to fix all others in an area, and ignore 100+ houses and 3 days later not even have an ESTIMATED time we MIGHT get power is absurd. If they service the area you are looking to move into, look elsewhere. They have the highest rates in Florida. When there are long outages (i.e. a week), they provide little information on status. Their disconnect process doesn't work until someone starts service at the same address. They will bill you for the electricity that the landlord uses in the meantime. I filed an order online and called, but they claim to have no record of it. Calling, now there is another joke. You have to search for their customer service number as it is not on the website. Wow, I thought Florida Power was bad back in the day. Give me TICO or FPL any day. read more
