My friends and I went to Duke's last night. We had seen the chef had been at another place we enjoy: LeMalt.. It was delicious! We each got the Prime Filet for dinner. It came with a cleaver and some spicy dipping song. So good! For apps we had the Deviled Eggs and Short Rib Croquettes. The croquettes were melt in your mouth good. The deviled eggs were simply divine. With our steaks we ordered the creamed spinach, truffle fries, and peppers & mushrooms. All of the sides tasted phenomenal. Celebrated my birthday this year at Dukes. I loved that it was a newly opened steakhouse with a Haitian owner ( May was Haitian heritage month so I love extra celebrating anything Haitian heritage in the month ) The inside was beautiful! I especially loved the "fireplace" detail along the bar area ( spoiler alert it's NOT real fire lol) Duke's is BYOB and if you forget to grab a bottle there is a lq spot across the street. The food was yummy , it is a smaller menu but the taste is there. The staff was sweet and eager to please. Chef Duke was personable. We had heard so many great things about Duke's Steakhouse, so my husband brought me here for Mother's Day. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted at the door and I offered my choice of a beautiful Mother's Day rose. The restaurant has a modern, elegant ambiance with dark undertones and rich gold accents that create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. To start, we ordered the seared octopus and the New Zealand lamb lollipops. Both dishes were very good, though we admittedly compare every octopus dish to one from one of our favorite Mediterranean restaurants. While this version wasn't better than our favorite, we would absolutely order it again. One thing to note is that the restaurant is BYOB, but thankfully there's a wine store just a short walk away. My husband quickly returned with my favorite bottle of Veuve Clicquot, which was guaranteed to make the experience even better. For my entrée, I ordered a lobster dish wrapped in puff pastry (it had a much more sophisticated name that escapes me), and it was phenomenal. Honestly, it felt like a dish worthy of a Michelin star--beautifully presented and flavorful. I would order it every single time. We also tried the macaroni & cheese, which was decent but not particularly standout. The evening was enhanced by live music, a lovely waitress, and the owner personally stopping by our table to welcome us. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be back. I encountered Chef Duke's cooking at Estimes Cafe, which is brunch spot in the north jersey area and was completely blown away at the how tasty the food was. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me he had a steakhouse and without hesitation, i booked a reservation. This place is beautiful, the interior design is extremely elegant, the service is one of best i've encountered. Every waiter or waitress was vigilant and always doing what is needed to make you feel cared for and catered to. We ordered the bacon slab and octopus for appetizers and it was very appetizing. We then ordered the fried red snapper which came with a bed of seasoned rice. It was so delicious that i could cry. This place is fairly new and welcome edition to Central Jersey, but the owners have other restaurants that I have visited and our exceptional as well Everything we tasted was deliciously seasoned. It is a fusion of an upscale traditional American/steakhouse/Caribbean restaurant. The atmosphere was truly ritzy and sophisticated. It's BYOB. I had an overall enjoyable experience at Duke's Steakhouse. The highlights include the ambiance, live music, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The chef and owner, in addition to other attentive staff, greeted our table and checked on us which made for a nice personal touch. I ordered the deviled eggs as my appetizer which had a small but flavorful piece of bacon on each half which elevated the taste and made for an impactful bite. I ordered the NY strip steak as my main course which was well prepared. I usually ask for steak sauce, but in this case, it wasn't needed. The flavor stood on its own, but it also paired well with their Caribbean-inspired dipping sauce. It was topped with a spicy pepper which turned the heat up too much for me. Dessert was a standout. The bread pudding was excellent, very satisfying. I actually ran out of room but wish I could've finished every last bite. Lastly, my dragonfruit/lemon/passionfruit mocktail was extremely refreshing and delicious. I believe Duke's is BYOB, so make sure you stop at the liquor store beforehand if that's your preference. Toward the end of the evening, the service wait time did start to slow down, and we weren't informed of the 90 min table time limit until we were told our time was up which felt a bit abrupt. We had dinner at Duke's Steakhouse on March 5th with a 7:00 PM reservation. Parking took a little time since it's mostly street parking, so I recommend arriving early, especially on weekends. There is also a garage about two blocks away. Upon arrival, they took our coats and seated us in a small curtained room near the entrance. It was fairly quiet, probably because it was a rainy Thursday evening. My wife and I decided to order several items from the appetizer menu rather than focus on steak. We had the Creole lollipop chicken, deviled eggs, crevette de epis (seared shrimp), and New Zealand lamb lollipops, along with mashed potatoes and truffle mac and cheese for sides. I also ordered the 8 oz skirt steak. Highlights: * The shrimp and lamb lollipops were very flavorful and well prepared. * The truffle mac and cheese was exceptional and easily the best side we had. Good but not standout: * The mashed potatoes were decent but nothing special. * The lollipop chicken looked great but could have used more seasoning. Skirt steak: It was okay. In general, I find skirt steak can sometimes lack flavor unless it's heavily seasoned, and this one didn't really change my opinion. One nice touch is that they allow you to bring your own bottle of wine. We brought one and they opened and served it for us, though I'd recommend confirming that policy beforehand. Service was excellent. Chelsea, Jermaine, Francesca, and Kelly were all welcoming and attentive, with Chelsea and Jermaine in particular standing out--they made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the evening. Duke's Steakhouse is definitely a great spot to check out. My family and I really enjoyed the ambience and our meal. For our small plates, we got the creole lollipops, the boulette, and the deviled eggs. We all agreed that the boulette was the best out of the three. Then for my entree I ordered the yuzu and green mango salad with a side of truffle fries. The main menu is relatively small, so there aren't too many options in terms of sides. I was excited to try Duke's Steakhouse today because it had a lot of unique inspired Haitian dishes. The restaurant was dimly lit and had a nice atmosphere. We started with Duke's salad which is basically a really good Caesar salad. For entrees we had the Chilean sea bass which was OUTSTANDING and the creole cream pasta. The creole cream pasta was FANTASTIC! I loved the creole sauce and it had the right amount of heat. We also ordered a side of Mac and cheese which was very good! For dessert we had a chocolate peanut butter semifreddo. I couldn't barely taste any peanut butter in the semifreddo. It wasn't the type of dessert I'd order again. This place is definitely aesthetically pleasing with how they decorated it and the dimness of the lights. The service was great, we had Tyler who was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu. Make sure you bring a bottle because the drink options are lackluster if you don't. I think the only option was water, coke, Diet Coke and ginger ale if available. The food was okay, definitely was expecting a little bit more for the price. Everything just seems to be drowned in whatever oil they use. The steak wasn't in my opinion worth $88 dollars. The steaks, service and ambience were all excellent. My NY Strip was delicious and one of the best I've had in years! I wish they had a few "plain" options for sides- like a baked potato or plain french fries. Also I wish they had regular steak sauce like A1 - I know it's a fancy steakhouse and they have their own but I've been to many places that will have "regular" steak sauce for those who want it. I think for a soft roll out, I would have expected the manager to touch tables as it wasn't super busy, but that's just personal preference. My family and I decided to check out dukes steakhouse to celebrate my dad's birthday. Us girls wanted to take him somewhere special and once we stepped inside we were so pleased with our choice. The establishment gave classy and sophisticated. The service was attentive and on point. For starters we had the boulette and creole lollipops. The boulette's are a Haitian style meatball with a savory gravy 9/10. The creole lollipops were crispy with a hint of heat 7/10. I had the creole cream which was packed with flavor and coated in a delicious cream sauce 8/10. My dad got the veal chopped with a side of mixed vegetables. It was safe to say he thoroughly enjoyed it because the bone was clean 10/10. My mom got the cacciatore, which was very similar to that of spaghetti so it wasn't nothing too grand but still hit the spot 6.5/10. Overall, I would recommend this steakhouse for special occasions, especially with its high price tag. read more

I personally think it's the expectation that kill this restaurant. The wait time for the food is crazy....we got to the restaurant at 6:50 and didn't get serve till 9 (appetizer and entrees). The place looks nice, the food is tasty but the wait time is wild. They also didn't have several items available as they were short on the octopus and the braised short rib pasta. As a Haitian and I know the owner is a Haitian as well, fix this man. I'm all for supporting my people but y'all got to do better. Had the pleasure of going here last weekend with my family. The ambiance was nice and they even had entry in the back as well where we parked. We had a few of the appetizers and salads before our entree. I liked all the starters except the short rib croquet just something about the taste i didn't care for. We ordered the devil eggs but didn't receive but we were already full so it was ok. Me and my other family members ordered the skirt steak and it was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. Duke's Steakhouse is such a local gem!!! I don't like to venture to far from home, so when I found out about Duke's I was very excited to give it a try. I've been there maybe 3 or 4 times, and each meal there is better than the last. When I walk through the door, the hostess is always very pleasant. They are very accommodating when it comes to seating. Seating at the bar is a little casual and a fun experience. There's a faux fire at the bar, which adds to the ambiance. Since it's a byob, I bring a bottle of wine with me too enjoy with my meal. The wait staff opens my wine for me and puts it on ice. Once I was unsure of what I wanted to eat. Chef Duke came out and gave me a suggestion. I ended up having a New York strip with veggies. The strip was the perfect temperature (I like mine medium). As for the veggies, OMG!.... they were so good! I ate the whole dish of veggies. The veggies were full of flavor. They weren't your typical broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower mix. The veggies seemed to be mix of mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, onions... just delightful and seasoned perfectly. BTW, there wasn't much of a wait for my meal to come out - big plus.​ I can't wait to go back. It's such a luxurious dining experience. Perfect atmosphere, ambiance, and dining experience.... Ordered the NY strip. It was inedible. Thick layer of gristle throughout the entirety of the steak. This is something that's caused by poor butchery skills, which is a bad sign for a steakhouse. My wife and I were very much looking forward to dining at Duke's for our anniversary, so when we finally got there, we were very excited to try out this relatively new steak house. Our server greeted us warmly and made sure we were comfortable, but that was the last time he seemed to make any effort. He brought us bread, which was okay, but not remarkable, and they kept trying to take it away. We ordered the deviled eggs and yuzu and mango salad as appetizers. The eggs were fantastic; the salad was so-so. We then ordered a New York strip steak that we were going to share. When our waiter brought the steak, we both looked at it and said we thought it looked like a skirt steak. He insisted that it was a strip and quickly left our table. No one came back, and we were starving, so we ate the skirt steak. The waiter eventually showed up to offer us dessert, but we weren't hungry anymore. He quickly left again without offering coffee, which we would had liked. He finally showed up with the check, which he just dropped on the table and left. The check showed that he charged us for a skirt steak, even though we'd ordered a strip. As for ambience, the restaurant was really loud. We had to shout to hear each other. The men's bathroom was so cold I could literally see my breath. Overall, we were underwhelmed by Duke's and will not go back, nor recommend it. For a town like Metuchen, which has a plethora of great restaurants to choose from, this one is a disappointment. read more

I have to share my experience here, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. I made a reservation for 8 PM, but upon arrival, the manager was sitting at the front engaged in a phone conversation. We waited about 15 minutes before the host finally greeted us. After being seated, the servers were never informed that we had arrived. Nearly 20 minutes passed before anyone came to our table, and even then, they only took our drink orders and never brought water. Throughout the evening, we expressed our dissatisfaction with the service, yet it still took an entire hour for our food to arrive -- on a slow night with very few customers in the restaurant. After the long wait, we spoke to the host again, who relayed our concerns to the manager. The manager looked over at us from the bar but never once came to our table to address the situation personally. While the food itself was tasty, the excessive wait time and lack of customer service completely overshadowed the experience. There was clearly a breakdown in communication among the staff, especially regarding reservations and table service. Given the low volume of patrons, we expected a much smoother dining experience. An unusual experience. They are BYOB (which is great) but it's BYOB only, so if you want a beer or a glass of wine with your fancy steak, you first have to hit the liquor store in the next block. (On a positive note, they don't charge a corkage fee.) And then, I arrived 15 minutes early for my reservation and was the first of my party. The restaurant was completely empty but I was not allowed to go to my table and had to wait in the cold reception area until my party was complete. An understandable policy when the place is full but it was completely empty! And finally, there is a 3 percent surcharge for paying with a credit card. Like anyone would pay cash in a place like this, so basically a hidden fee. Other than that, ambiance, food and service were good. read more

Very disappointing. Poor service and three of the six diners at our table were very dissatisfied with their meal. The steaks were overly seasoned and extremely salty. We voiced are displeasure to our server, but it obviously didn't go anywhere. We followed up asking if our concerns were voiced to the chef and were told yes, but no response received. There wasn't anyone in front of house checking on customer satisfaction. Dessert was limited to two choices, and there was NO COFFEE. I went into Dukes with high expectations, but unfortunately, they were not met. We had a 5:00 PM reservation, yet upon arrival we were asked to wait about 10 minutes in a very small waiting area--even though the restaurant was completely empty. Our server was excellent, and the appetizers were the highlight of the meal. We ordered the lamb chop lollipops and the chicken lollipops, and both were outstanding. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. After finishing our appetizers, we waited approximately 45 minutes for our main course. We ordered the dry-aged tomahawk steak, and when it finally arrived, it was underseasoned and tasted as though it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. Given the price point, this was extremely disappointing. My husband and I have dined at many steakhouses in the area, all of which have provided far better quality and value for the cost (Steakhouse 85, Stage Left, The Butchers Block, Stricklands, and many others) . We have also dined at Le Malt in Colonia, where Duke is the executive chef, and that experience was wonderful--making this visit even more surprising. I visited Duke's Steakhouse for the second time and I had an amazing experience. They now serve wine by the bottle which made things very convenient. We opted to purchase a bottle to try something new, especially from a New Jersey winery! We tried the deviled eggs, shrimp and lamb for an appetizer. 10 out of 10. Our main was the Tomahawk and Sea bass with vegetables and potatoes as our side. OMG YUM. We tried some specialty black rice they had for the first time, and it was so flavorful and perfect texture. Service was amazing, they were patient with us browsing the menu and explaining what each dish were. The ambiance is beautiful, it feels like we are in New York City. 10/10 read more
