We went for a post Christmas party. A quaint place we had outlr pick of Penne Vodka Eggplant Parm Chicken Parm Sausage & Peppers. I asked waiter BTW the parmagiana's he suggested chicken. For me I like to try eggplant because of you can cook that well, you can cook, period. Well he talked me out of that and I tried the chicken parm. I thought it was good. Sauce/gravy was ok & chicken was sizeable My boss chose the eggplant parm and he enjoyed it. It looked good not sure if anyone chose the sausage and peppers and many chose chicken parm and penne with Vodka n chicken. Was not bad at all much better than last year's venue. The potatoes were alright. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish. My waitress was nice but she didn't try everything on the menu. I'm not sure I will return. This reminds me of an old school Italian restaurant where they have been an institution in their neighborhood. I appreciate that that make their own desserts. We made a reservation for 5 on a Wednesday night. It was dead when we got there. The restaurant was totally decked out for Christmas. It had low lights and warm home like ambiance. Gorgeous Christmas tree near the bar. The food was decent. We all shared one order of calamari and one order of the house salad. My entre was the clams with linguini. Our server was warm and friendly with us. I had the tiramisu for dessert. Very good! However one of my biggest issues is it took 30 minutes to get our drinks. She brought the bread and waters right away and the we waited for our wines and cocktails for what felt like a long time. Even though it was dead inside the whole meals took over 2 hours. Of course we were chatting the whole time, but getting our drinks, dessert ( homemade ) and then the checks etc was long. I would recommend they cut at least one page out of their menu and focus on speed throughout the meal. read more

I came here with a large group on a Sunday. We had reservations for 5:30 but ended up there at 5 and they happily accommodated us. There was a special on the "blue lagoon" drink, a tropical cocktail, that most of our group ordered and really enjoyed. There were no fun non-alcoholic drinks, this is more of a traditional Italian place, so I opted for soda. In the salad portion of the menu there is "burrata insalate" and I guess because it was in the salad section instead of the appetizer section I imagined a full salad with, prosciutto and tomatoes mixed in and a creamy burrata on top. The plate was wonderfully presented but I was disappointed that I was sharing because it didn't seem like enough! The portion I did have was delicious. I am briefly on a gluten free diet for health reasons and it has been hard at times to dine out. When I asked about gluten free options they presented a full menu which was nice to have especially in an Italian restaurant where most dishes are expected to have gluten. They have gluten free pasta which has a different consistency but didn't mess with the flavor of my dish. I got the pasta with broccoli rabe in a garlic and oil sauce (pugliese) and added hot sausage. It was good but could have used a bit more flavor, maybe parmesan or a fresh squeeze off of a lemon. My sister got the seafood risotto which was superb- seriously no notes on that one! We finished the dinner off with a flourless chocolate cake. It was very rich and I was glad we were sharing, but I am not complaining, the fudgyness of this cake was divine. read more

I recently met a group of friends for a luncheon at Mulberry St. I decided to order the chicken cordon bleu even though it was $32. I was sadly disappointed. Instead of the chicken cutlet rolled up with the ham and cheese inside, like it's supposed to be, someone decided to take a short cut and lay the chicken (which tasted like chicken francaise) on top of the ham and cheese. I ate some, but it just wasn't what it was supposed to be. For that much money an effort should have been made to do it the right way! Mulberry Street Restaurant had some pros and cons. However, since they were undergoing a renovation I wouldn't hold much against them. The service from the young lady was spotless. She was fantastic and I wish they cloned her and she was the server in every restaurant I visited. My first complaint is an odd one - the napkins. The napkins were HARD. I have never experienced something like that. I don't know what was going on, but that was weird. We ordered the antipasto and while the portion was massive, the freshness was questionable. Otherwise the rest of the food and drinks were great. Those portions are no joke, though so keep that in mind. read more

I had to speak to the manager about it, but that didn't help. The food still came out late! People that came after us were served promptly. Went to have dinner here on a Friday night without reservation and was pleasantly surprise they were able to take us as it looks like they are very popular. If we are going soley in food my review would be a 3.5, but the attentive staff maked it a 4. For starters we orderd the calamari that my friend was raving about and they were good. Crispy and the sauce was a perfect match. For the entree I had Pesto with angel hair and shrimp and my friend had the seafood riscotto. Both dishes were lacking flavor. We ended up adding salt and pepper and the blend of seasoning they give you for your bread and oil and it made it 10 times better. For the dessert we shared the cannoli and it taste great. I just found a hidden gem. My wife and I (she has Sicilian roots) were pressed for dinner and decided to order out. Ended up choosing Mulberry Street. Kept it simple. We ordered the rigatoni bolognese. I called in the order and picked it up. I'm an older guy who loves bolognese. This was the BEST I ever had. And the portion fed us both well tonight, with leftovers. I was so pleased with this stunning meal that I was compelled to call the restaurant to tell them about it. As coincidence would have it, the chef and owner (Chef Paul) answered the phone! What a treat. And much to my surprise, unsolicited, he told me the secret to his bolognese. I'll never tell, chef!! Also, the vibe inside Mulberry street restaurant was on point for me. Comfortable, old school, not quiet, not too loud, not over-stated. We ate here on a Tuesday evening when the restaurant was half empty. Notwithstanding the small number of diners the food took 50 minutes to arrive. It was NOT worth it. The food was passable (barely) but was not as described. An Alfredo pasta was missing peas and had a hair in it. A side of "portobello mushrooms" clearly wasn't (see picture). The staff was fairly indifferent and we had to chase them down for updates. At the end they did comp a dessert but it did not make up for the poor food and service -- which came at a hefty price tag. read more

She also was very accommodating when we made a special request regarding my wife's request for a smaller portion on her soup. We had the mushroom soup, mussels appetizer and bolognese lasagna and veal sorrentino. Veal did not need a knife to cut and the sauce was delicious. Very large portions. We brought food home. It was under unfortunate circumstances that my family and I met Paul. My father passed and we were scrambling to find a place for the repast for at least 70 people. We only had a few days to plan and figure things out. Under such a stressful and emotional time, Paul patiently sat with me and my sister to review all the options and the menu's and put our minds at ease. With Paul's experience with dealing with repast's (always thought the spelling was "repass", Paul taught us that as well)and knowledge of food in general, it was a clear decision to go with Mulberry Street. The day of my father's funeral was extremely emotional, exhausting as well as a million other feelings and emotions throughout the day.It was a pleasure and a relief to walk into a room that was beautifully set up, relax with a glass of wine and enjoy good...no wait ...GREAT, AMAZING food!! We went here for the Thanksgiving Buffet. We were a party of 8. Even though the restaurant was practically empty we were seated on the far side of the bar. A second trip to the buffet wasn't worth it anyway. The food was cold and just not very good. Some of my party said the turkey was good but for $42.00 a person they should have liked more than just the turkey. Did I mention that everything was cold? I selected this restaurant because we've been there before for a regular evening out and the food was very good. Not this time. We scheduled weeks ago for our company party for about 50 employees. A buffet menu was presented as an option. But they said they would do a sit down, served meal with the buffet options. The party was scheduled to start at 4:30 and end at 7:30. The tables were not set up until about 4:45, which we did not see as a major issue. However, it was a cash bar party and as everyone was arriving it was clear that there was only 1 bartender working and it proved to be really long waits to get any drinks. We all set down for the salads and gave out orders about 5:00-5:30. It was almost 7 by the time we saw the first meals coming out. 2 or 3 people had to ask for their food to go because they had time commitments with children and such. By the time we were all served and finished our meals it was after 7:30 and there was no sign of dessert. About 2/3 of our people left and we asked if we could just be credited for that amount of dessert. The owner got very rude and refused to give any credit at all. So nobody had coffee or tea and a couple people took cookies home. We would have rebooked for next year, except for the owner's attitude. Good food, terribly delayed for everything, rude owner. This Italian restaurant adds a touch of class to a nondescript neighborhood. Atmosphere is old-school, white walls, dark brown wood, with nice china and tablecloths, and Sinatra on the speakers. Menu is extensive, though a bit pricey. My penne with fra diavalo sauce was enormous, and the sauce was spicy--just the way I like it. My wife's penne pomadoro was equally huge, with tasty, chunky Roma tomato sauce. Service by a pleasant young woman was courteous and quick. Liked it a lot. read more
