Sound really caries under that overhang. I have always stayed here when I come to Duncan to visit my mother but it's really gone downhill since my last visit. Light in gym is on a timer, turned off, and I was in the dark in the middle of a run in the treadmill lol. Nonetheless, a good mix of equipment, though small. Fridge doesn't have a freezer and didn't seem cold enough. Noisy as can hear reception and traffic from rooms on the ground floor. Woken up at 5am by someone's door closing, sounded like it happened right next to my head. Place needs to be spundproofed as any noise in the hall can be heard inside the rooms. Shower walls need to be cleaned better, there were a couple of hairs left behind. Also, the dispenser amenities are just not as sanitary and reliable as the mini bottles. The body wash was open and clearly had been open for awhile and was congealing/out of product.

I used it as a 2 day Basecamp for an event in nearby Mill Bay. For a place to sleep and shower it worked for me. False advertising is an understatement. The review: Terrible hard beds, generally filthy, no fans or ac in rooms. The staff was nice but we almost couldn't check in because we planned to use our debit card that we booked with, but were told on arrival they don't accept debit cards. Thankfully we have one credit card and had to use that to pay. The room was stuffy as there was no ventilation or cooling system of any kind. The mattresses were rock hard, and we couldn't sit up in the beds because there were giant framed prints on the walls from the top of the tiny headboards to the ceiling. The dirty tile hallways were not only reminiscent of an abandoned hospital basement, but terribly loud when people were rolling their suitcases down the hall at all hours. The TV was even just sad and barely functioned. The continental breakfast might as well be taken away. No fresh fruit, no hard boiled eggs or pastry or muffins. Cold cereal, old granola bars (the one I tried to eat tasted like it lived in the bottom of a soccer mom's purse for at least 3 seasons) yogurt, lunch box fruit cups, juice, weak coffee. I don't usually expect much for a continental breakfast but this was about as minimal and low effort as it gets, and the breakfast room was a mess of old sofas, old beat up dirty looking tables and chairs, and some brand new chairs. The entire place needs some serious structural attention, a good scrubbing, and maybe just cut the room rates a bit and get rid of breakfast in favor of a couple of well-stocked vending machines. We stay at Super 8 lodging frequently when we get the chance to travel and this was by far the worst place we've ever stayed. We don't expect luxury but we do expect a fan and/or AC unit, a bed that feels more mattress than concrete, oh and a toilet that doesn't seem like came from a bathroom meant for tiny short children. This place seems like it was a an old run down motel that Super 8/Wyndham purchased, they slapped some new signs up and made exactly zero improvements. Sad.

Owner was very adamant that I pay for both rooms even though it was an obvious mistake. When I was trying to explain that I only made 1 reservation he kept asking to see my phone. When I went into my email he grabbed my phone and scrolled through my emails. He then said he'd give me a 40% discount on one of the rooms if I gave him an exceptional review which I did not agree to do. Further into our argument he changed to 30% and then back to 40 when I said you said 40. He then filled out paperwork for both rooms and insisted that I sign them both. When I said I wanted keys to both rooms he said no you only get key for 1 room. I said if I am paying for both I get both keys. He said no and held onto key until I signed both papers. I felt so violated by that entire experience. He later called my cell phone to see if I wanted or needed anything??? The rooms are very old and dated and do not look like pictures posted. Bathroom appears to have mould around floorboards. Beds were very lumpy and only had a bedsheet and itchy old blanket to cover with. The housekeepers do an excellent job of making the rooms presentable. Overall with the sketchy owner this hotel is the epitome of Fleabag hotel. I do not recommend at all

The bed was always well made and comfortable and the mini kitchen area and big fridge were most appreciated for easy cooking. The walk to the main stores in Cowichan Bay was easy. Within five minutes you're eating at awesome local restaurants like The Masthead and The Vine or able to take a bioluminescent Kayak tour in the bay. I would recommend the stay here. The wifi is also very good and the people in charge are polite. Thank you!!!
