This is seriously my new favorite place on the San Juan's, and I've been up here a thousand times. Can't believe it took me this long to find Snug Harbor! This is a beautiful quaint little family run oasis on Mitchell Bay. There are hotel style rooms, and private cabins. We stayed in a private cabin on the waterfront for our anniversary this year. The cabins are stunning. Everything was super clean. You have a full kitchen and appliances should you want to cook, even equipped with a BBQ outside! There's a small living space, and the bathroom felt like a luxury spa! The shower had pebbled floorings which were so nice. The bedroom was cozy and comfortable and not to mention pitch black which was amazing for sleep! We slept with all windows open at night and slept great with the cool air and again I can't stress enough how quiet the property is. My favorite part is the windows at the front looking at the water and the little sitting nook by the kitchen. I sat there or in the chairs out front for most of our trip just admiring the water and stillness. So pretty! There's a little greenery area for sitting, play lawn games, or fire pits for smores. They also have kayaks and paddle boards for use during the day which was a nice amenity. They also have a general store and coffee shop on property with everything you might need. My favorite part is their water system that's fully treated and maintained by them. Because of it the shower water is so soft and serene, and the drinking water is amazing straight from the tap! This was a 10/10 stay from top to bottom, and we already can't wait to come back! read more

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at Snug Harbor Resort while visiting Friday Harbor. We reserved a one-bedroom waterfront cabin seamlessly online. Our total cost was $607.19. Check-in was done at the lobby. At the lobby one will also find a store and a coffee shop. Complimentary movies and games can also be checked out at the lobby to enjoy back at your lodging. The store offers a little bit of everything, from clothing to snacks. Complimentary ice machines are available. Bagged ice can be purchased though. Lower-level parking is limited and was completely full in the evenings. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot every time we returned from playing. Wheel barrel type carts located at the gate make transporting luggage effortless to rooms. Adirondack chairs are scattered about the edge of the property to enjoy sipping a beverage, reading or admiring the view. A fire-pit, community BBQ, picnic area and kids play area help pass the time while on-site. The paly area is at the lobby end for those who do not wish to have quarters near noise. The cabin we were given was number 10, a handicap unit. The very first cabin upon entrance and the furthest from the lobby and play area. Our cabin was clean and well equipped. Snug Harbor provided us the peace that we were seeking at the time. My one suggestion would be to offer fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby to establish a more personal touch. read more

Our stay here was beyond amazing - it was a way to connect to nature, recharge and truly relax and enjoy our time together and our time away. Located in San Juan Islands in Friday Harbor, this is the ideal spot if you want to unplug and have some down time. Downtown Friday Harbor has many restaurants, shops and spots to explore - And it's only about a 12 minute drive from the resort. Everything is a short driving distance away. The staff at Snug Harbor is super friendly and beyond helpful when trying to find out how to spend your time on the island. It's a small staff, so please be patient with them if they are taking care of other guests. They will do everything they can to be sure your stay is enjoyable, relaxing and that you have the best experience. The grounds are phenomenal! Each cabin is nestled in the woods surrounded by beautiful trees and scenery and each one overlooks the Mitchell Bay. Canoes and kayaks are available at the resort for everyday use, there is also a coffee shop {you must try the Matcha Latte} as well as resort store equipped with wine, beer, snacks, daily toiletries as well as the cutest Snug Harbor merch. Each of the cabins will have you wanting to move in immediately! We had a one bedroom suite that was perched on top of a hill and tucked in a private corner with a gorgeous view of the water. The cabins are fully equated with dishes, cooking tools, towels, and everything you could possibly need for a weekend in the woods. Since each cabin also comes with a grill, we hit up the local market {King's Market} - Some delicious steaks, salads and amazing wine - This combined with the views, it was a perfect stay! This little resort is tucked away with beautiful views of the water. The cabins are so nice, instead of feeling like a touristy hotel you have your own space with a living room and kitchen. We definitely utilized the kitchen for a few meals since all the restaurants are a drive away in Friday Harbor. The views are beautiful and it's so serene. The only downside we experienced were very noisy children that played very close to our cabin the entire daytime. Definitely not the resorts fault but still wish there was some type of monitoring. Several children popped up at our back windows, looking in (and no this wasn't a path) which gave me a small heart attack. Then proceeded to scream and play with bare amounts of adult supervision in groups. So maybe just keep this in mind when going during spring or summer break. read more

Absolutely loved this property! It's the perfect spot to stay where you're not in the busy town but close enough to drive to. You're in the quiet little bay surrounded by the trees, water and tons of birds singing. We booked the one bedroom suite, the check in and out process was really simple. All the staff we encountered during our stay were pleasant and helpful. The grounds are gorgeous, they keep everything literally perfect. They offer paddle boards and kayaks for the guests that we ended up using. There's a little coffee and guest shop on the property as well. Snug Harbor Resort is a fabulous, semi-hidden enclave off the beaten San Juan Island path. But once you've found it (located just a couple miles past its flashier resort cousin, Roche Harbor Resort) you're in for a treat. I've been there twice now, staying with friends in one of the larger cabins on top of the hill. There are also smaller, more intimate cabins along the waterfront. Near the marina, there's a large firepit area with free firewood; and the lobby building sports a small coffee shop and tiny grocery that carries everything you might have forgotten. The cabins themselves are cozy yet modern. The large cabins have two bedrooms and a pullout couch, so can easily sleep 6 comfortably. The kitchens are large and extremely well-appointed, and the split bathroom boasts a wonderful walk-in shower that's hard to get out of. The cabins also have outdoor patios with a picnic table and grills - you could truly spend an entire summer in one (if you can afford it, of course). But what makes Snug so magical is its location on a tiny bay where sea life abounds, Bald Eagles fly overhead, and a sudden relaxation overtakes you the moment you arrive. It's hard to even explain, but once you've experienced it...it's magical. read more

A lifetime in Washington but only just got to Snug Harbor Resort this year. Don't want to be redundant or long-winded. The new cabins are lovely, spacious, and well-enough appointed. The beds are comfy and warm. The grounds are serene and beautiful. The fireplaces are hypnotic. The little store is carefully curated with sundries and gifts/souvenirs. The espresso and pastry bar is a welcome addition. Tucked away, it feels like you're "out of it" even though you can get back "into it" within a 15-20 minute drive. Bring a kayak or paddle board if you have one. Bring your portable camp chair for more flexibility with enjoying the grounds. read more

This is a great quaint and quiet place to stay. It is located right in the center of San Juan Island so you can easily access anywhere you wish to go while visiting. Awesome staff who were very willing to accommodate us when we were getting in pretty late at night. They have a nice little shop, and coffee shop that will just about meet most of your needs. If you are not a go out to dinner and lunches type of person, every unit has a small kitchen in it and a grill outside. Beautiful morning sunrises easily seen, and lots of wildlife and waterfowl all around. This was exactly the quiet restful place we were looking for on our getaway. Bargain Alert! When I score a home run--I want to tell everyone! Hubby and I booked this for an overnight to surprise my sister from Pasadena. Our two bedroom cabin had a beautiful view of the harbor, and was perfect in every way! Furnishing were upscale, the place was spotless and everything was in great condition--like a new resort! The grounds were immaculate and the office features a cafe and fully stocked small market with gift shop, as well as a lovely meeting space and adjoining kitchen for groups. They have BBQs for you to use, crab pots to cook your crab and fire pits and tables for casual gatherings outside. Perfect for families and gatherings of friends. The price was terrific and this is a place we'll definitely book again; the only question is how soon. read more

For the price it is lacking in what similarly priced resorts offer. No housecleaning service except upon request and they only replace sheets and towels and vacuum. No dishwasher and kitchen not well appointed, and with cheap low quality kitchenware. When we got in the cabin the toilet had hairs all over it. The biggest issue was that there is constant loud noise from landscapers power tools, so no quiet and peaceful possession of the premises at all, very very loud and disruptive (I have several videos taken throughout our time there to show it). I mentioned this to the person at the front desk and then talk to the manager about it. They did absolutely nothing at all about it or even apologize. Nothing! Cabins are tiny, little space for storage. Not really close to anything. The heat pump is only in the living and kitchen area, not in bedrooms or bathroom so we were very cold at night. When I pulled out the extra wool blanket in the armoire from the plastic bag, it was wet and mildewy! I called the front desk and left a voicemail message, they didn't call back at all. They only are open from 8am to 6 pm. And they just make you come to them for anything like extra towels. The cafe was out of pastries in the morning. Nice thing is the view and free use to kayaks with waiver. The front desk person was very nice overall and did let us check in a little earlier, which we appreciated. Spent about $1800 for three nights. Disappointing over all. read more

This resort looked awesome from Trip Advisor. In person it's much better. The sun was out every day that we were here. Beautiful pucet sound in front of the resort. The water temperature is 49 degrees 365 days a year. The Resort offers the ability to take out either the canoe or kayak for no charge, includes roasting marshmallows which they provide sticks in your room, firewood in the shelter near the lower part of the front entrance. For the most part the area is really peaceful. The week we were there we ran into a couple of nights that young children were screaming, and jumping on the small shelter outside the building. I reported it to the staff before leaving the resort. I just didn't want anyone else have to go through those sleepless nights. Two recommendation that I will make to Snug Harbor. The Coffee shop is a nice amenity with great coffee, breakfast, and other items. They open at 8 AM - 5 PM but sometimes will close much earlier, and open after 8 AM. For your visitors from the East Coast are much used to coffee at 6 or 7 AM. Consider opening the coffee shop up a little earlier. The Internet is really slow. I ran an analysis and seen that they are using a single router and need to have a tech company provide them with a CISCO 24-48 port switch with adapters to allow the signals to be blasted throughout the resort to increase the better performance of the internet speed. We have been going to Snug Harbor every year with several families for 4+ years and we have always looked forward to coming. Apparently, there is new management. The Pros - brand new dock (not as many slips), easy to keep boat in marina to fish during the day. Amazing views, five kayaks, two canoes & five paddle boards for guest use. Crab pots (two) to use, but you can only keep it in the bay and only for two hours. Two big pots outdoors to cook the crab in. Coffee shop but depending on who the barista is, depends on how your drink comes out. Not consistent. Full kitchen to use so it makes it easy to make your meals. Fairly well-stocked cabin, although some cabins were missing some things that other cabins had. The cons - bring wasp spray and wasp traps because the place was infested with wasps. We have never had this problem on our previous trips. Out of our party of 14 in several cabins, 6 were stung, some more than once. Each time we mentioned it to management, each time to get ice, they would say "tell those wasps to leave you alone", "it seems to be the complaint today". Thankfully, none are our party has anaphylaxis to bee and wasp stings. Noticed other parties with people getting stung as well. After the first day, we bought a wasp trap and spray. It helped some, but forget eating outdoors until it cools off and they aren't active. Even on the boat at the dock they were swarming us. Another issue - whale watching boats and kayak tours that leave from Snug Harbor gather and take up chairs and sit and use the fire pits, walk down the sidewalk right next to the cabins and look in at us like we're on display. The housekeepers would come at 7:30 am when some of us were still sleeping. The would come back later asking if we needed anything, yet when we told her, she said She didn't speak English. Although, if we showed her what we needed, she went and got it. Housekeeping was very pleasant. The lobby/gift shop is normally open until 8 pm, and it still states those hours on the door, however, they locked it up at 6:30pm. We still had a good time but didn't spend as much time outside as we normally do sitting by the bay. Next year we are talking about finding a large house to accommodate us. This has been a summer tradition but moving on to new adventures. REPLY TO OWNER: Thank you Eric for your response. I agree that the new marina is beautiful. Snug Harbor is a beautiful place. A place where I go to relax and spend time with family and friends. We enjoy playing cards outside, reading, relaxing, barbecuing and cooking crab in the big pots and eating together outside as a group. The whole purpose of the trip is to relax - OUTSIDE. We were not able to do that as we were constantly swatting, and waving the wasps away, or getting stung. We had dinner outside every evening and it was a constant battle keeping the wasps out of our drinks and off the food. I had to get creative, wrapping my cup in Saran Wrap and cutting a tiny hole for a straw. I get that there are wasps. We have NEVER had an issue like this in all of the years we have come. We even started fires early and put wet wood on it to help smoke them away. You need to think about pest control. They are a nuisance. And yes, someone who has a known allergy to wasps most likely carries an Epi-pen. There may be a guest who hasn't been stung before and has a reaction. I doubt you have Epi-pens in your office. It was out of control. When the people in our party went to the office after getting stung, not once did they mention Benadryl in the gift shop. They were kind enough to give us ice. You commented on how many times you and your wife were stung. If that doesn't tell you that there is a problem, then I can't help you. Besides, you aren't the one paying for a vacation. It's your business, own up to it and fix the issue, then perhaps we would think about coming back. read more

It's a piece of heaven! Beautiful, spacious, well equipped, well maintained and "new" all-wood cabins. Visited SHR when my family came down from India. It was a perfect weekend. The waters and serenity of the place made it a wonderful experience. The ferry ride from Anacortes was beautiful as well! They have DVDs, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and bikes COMPLIMENTARY for guests. Only thing was we had to drive back to Friday Harbor (8-9miles away) for dinner and groceries. I was aware of this and didn't really mind it. So all-in-all it was PERFECT! read more

My two sisters and I went for just a 2 day 1 night excursion of our own since we lost in touch with each other for a couple years. We agreed the cabins all looked to have great views of mostly the marina area (cove) including ours. Kitchen seemed to have most all the normal needs of one, bathroom clean and bedrooms/beds were comfortable with heavy downs for our colder month stay. Nice deck with picnic table and BBQ along with deer's to watch and feed. The front help- Erik and a women (could of been his wife) (sorry don't remember name) both extremely polite and answered all question. We were the only ones in the lobby though:) Didn't see any wasp during our stay Sept. 25, 2019 so maybe they moved on or were dormant or possibly problem taken care of. A bit pricey but since we had three in our party the split was not as bad. For a couple looking to get away for a weekend (summer months- 2 day min.) you'd better plan on 1000.00 (best to check website for exact pricing) with excursion added or should you go out for dinner and do any shopping in town. Our Fall 1 day in mid week was 362.00 incl tax OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS STILL A+ if we had stayed longer to get real effect, who knows what number of stars we would of submitted., so leaving it with we would of course recommend you giving them a try. read more

I give snug harbor resort 4.5 stars but the Yelp won't allow a half star. We hosted our wedding here and with a few bumps in the road had the best weekend ever!! Ken the manager really worked with us and was accommodating. It is the perfect venue for a small wedding under 50 people. We made it a weekend getaway destination wedding . Used local vendors Felicity cakes Deb Nolan Catering It was so romantic and a wonderful setting for our small wedding. We had a wonderful BBQ the night before . This place was magical! It was perfect place to relax and take in the tranquil setting of the island. We had a family of 5 which is always an issue for sleeping but this cabin was perfect! We utilized the BBQ to make dinner and eat on the deck while overlooking the bay. The staff were very helpful and friendly, answering all our questions and making sure we could enter our cabin if the office was closed. We made use of the kayaks and paddle boards in the morning which the kids loved! This is a place we will definitely return. Next time we will book a longer stay and try out the fire pits. read more

I was looking for a place on San Juan Island for the long President's Day weekend with my wife and youngest son. I originally was looking in the Friday Harbor area. After some researching, I found information about Snug Harbor where the pictures showed a rustic, but modern set of cabins on the water. The staff called us the morning of our arrival and told us our room was ready for check in early if we wanted -- unfortunately we couldn't take an earlier ferry. We arrived late, when it was already dark, so didn't get to enjoy the location and views until the next morning. Our two bedroom cabin was wonderful, cozy with a gas fireplace for heating the house, a nicely appointed kitchen/sitting room and well appointed bathroom. The cabin was just like the pictures, rustic feel, but all modern with views of Snug Harbor. If you are looking for something where you can walk into town on San Juan, this isn't your place. You'll have to bike or drive to get to places, but we really enjoyed the remote nature of the property. It was very quiet, right on the water, the owner and staff were friendly and there was plenty to do, especially in warmer weather on the water. I'd definitely make a return visit here. read more

We loved our stay at snug harbor resort. It was very relaxing and the staff was extremely nice. We visited in September so we were able to use the fire place and get cozy. We stayed in the waterfront cabin with a great view. The cabins were clean and we were even able to check in early. We did use the workout room which wasn't much but still a nice amenity. They also offer free use of kayaks and paddleboards. We loved how remote Snug was and removed from Friday/Roche harbor. We will hopefully be back! read more

What a lovely and quiet stay we had at Snug Harbor. We had a private, one bedroom cabin right on the bay with a fabulous view. The lights were on and a fire in the propane fireplace/heater to make us feel warm and welcomed when we first stepped into the living room. The furnishings were up to date and everything was very clean, the staff was most kind and helpful. Just a few miles from Lime Kiln State Park and "The English Camp" which we found very interesting. Snug Harbor Resort is such a peaceful place with a beautiful view of the water and has a very kind and helpful staff. I came here for the weekend to getaway from the busy Seattle area, and was not disappointed. We stayed in the suite that was located above the lobby office and it had a great deck view of the marina and front property. They have a communal fire pit that I saw people using every night and also offer complementary paddle board, kayak and canoe rentals. The resort felt very clean and safe, especially during the covid times. I also saw that they have a whale watching boat that picks you up right at the marina, so I will definitely have to check that out next time I come. read more

Very beautiful cabins with great views. We had the 2 bedroom balcony suite, very comfy. The cabins are well maintained and equipped with all your needs. Multiple fire pits with unlimited supply of firewood included. We had a part of the wedding party staying at Snug Harbor, so we utilized the fire pits for multiple hours on both nights. Includes Kayaks, Canoes, Paddle boarding, and board games / DVD. Location is away from the main towns, at least 10-15 min drive to either Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor to pick up grocery/dinner. It was not an issue since we stopped by Safeway in Anacortes before getting on the ferry and the wedding was at Roche Harbor. Con - Please upgrade your WiFi. The network was very spotty, at times I would not be able to check my work e-mail. Unable to stream music or even watch Netflix. read more

What a gem! We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite for 4 nights right before Christmas. At 650 square feet, it definitely feels more spacious. The suite is very clean. The view is super awesome. The property is absolutely breathtaking! The staff were all friendly and accommodating. It was relaxing and so much fun. The only advice I have to add is to bring your own groceries from Friday Harbor. Each cabin has a propane grill which makes for easy and delicious home cooked dinners. read more

The Resort: Snug Harbor resort is situated in a sheltered harbor and overlooks the other side of the harbor. Views from the property include the marina and houses scattered on the opposite shoreline. The resort has a small store which was scantily stocked (but probably due to the fact that we visited in the winter), a fire pit, bbq areas, and some outdoor seating. There are also kayaks available and a pier to walk along. If you're looking for peace and quiet and somewhere to unwind, you will not be disappointed. The owners / managers worked with us to change our original reservations due to a snowstorm and greeted us cordially when we arrived. There was only one other couple staying in the resort when we were there, but I would believe even when full each guest would be treated as special! The Accommodation: We stayed in the Tree House, which was set back a little from the other cabins and accessible via a separate roadway. The view makes it very special. You have a completely unobstructed view of the harbor and boating area. There is a small personal deck outside which in warmer weather would be great for watching the world go by. Inside, the Tree House had a bedroom, a small living area, a small kitchen and a separate bathroom. There were sufficient utensils and pots and pans etc. (but no kettle - only a coffee-maker) to do most things, but the fridge was a little small. We were glad we had also brought a couple of coolers with us. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom large enough to be functional. There were ample power sockets throughout and everything was well maintained. The TV had limited channels (just local) but that wasn't an issue for us. The property boasted wifi but unfortunately the coverage was a little spotty and we needed to be patient to maintain connections. Cell phone coverage for AT&T was virtually non-existent. As I say, this is a place to get away from it all! One little oddity was that as it was so quiet at night you could hear all the creaks and groans of the property. The heating 'bubbled and creaked' and the water 'gurgled and burped'. I'm not sure, but I think the Tree House may be directly above the water supply for the resort and there was certainly a little noticeable noise coming from it during the night! The Good: Peace, tranquility, caring owners / managers, clean accommodations, views, you get the picture! The Bad: Inconsistent wifi, cell coverage, limited TV, limited kitchen appliances, sparsely stocked store (but it was winter) Overall: If you're looking to escape from everyday life and make your own memories, you will love the peace and quiet that is Snug Harbor Resort. If however, you are a towny at heart and want all the mod cons, please book another property and leave Snug Harbor to those that appreciate it! Totally recommended. read more
