When I showed up, it felt like I was stepping back in time and I loved every moment. I was greeting and given guidance to what I needed. The gentleman even considered price when making a suggestion to me. Not trying to up sell or give me more than what I needed to get the job done! There was some issue with my vanity top, so repeat measurements were taken on November 30th. I was told the top would be in either the week before Christmas (this week) or the week of Christmas. Long story short, my general contractor told me yesterday that ProSource told him my vanity top won't be in until January 8th. It is so easy to blame the holidays for these delays, but this should have been handled in a more timely fashion so as to avoid using that excuse. I was so looking forward to getting my home and life mostly back to normal just before Christmas. This ordeal has ruined my family's Thanksgiving and now Christmas & New Year's too ! They charged me $52.00, as opposed to $56.29 that Great Lakes initially charged me (and refunded). They also put a charge of $81.90 on the warranty work order that I apparently wasn't actually expected to pay, and didn't. But why a 45% increase, even on paper? I sent a copy of my original review a week ago to Great Lakes Ace Customer Service on their website. To date, a week later, I have had no response. This tells you everything you need to know about their concept of "customer service." Take your business elsewhere.

Today, the store looks like it has for the last 50 years. Vintage signs still hang out front of the store, always advertising something interesting. Inside, I found the store packed, with shelves filled up to the ceiling. The store is a bit disorganized and cluttered, but they seem to have everything a do-it-yourselfer might need. Prices are reasonable. The clerk asked us if we needed help and later talked a bit about the store's history. Old photos hang on the wall with Victorian photos of the original Hedlunds. We bought chainsaw oil. We've got to trim some trees. Parking is easy and close to the building. Exiting north requires patience as there is a lot of traffic.

The store and merchandise are immaculate and well organized. They carry a good selection of grills, power tools and everything a hardware store should. It is noteworthy that they carry a limited selection of frozen Moody meats. Moody is my favorite local butcher. Prices were reasonable. I think the store has the best selection of funny greeting cards that I have seen anywhere. The store also offers patrons complimentary popcorn and Rivet coffee. Gourmet coffee! What a treat! In case you were wondering, my husband was able to replace the drawer bracket and my kitchen is back to normal. We even went back over to Ace and ordered another drawer bracket so we would have a backup. Benge's Ace is a great addition to the neighborhood. Like other ACE hardware stores that are in the "mid size" you'll find everything you need up to bulk building materials. The parking was a little confusing. The main entrance is not on the main side facing the street but around back. But there is tons of parking and everything inside is very well laid out and labeled on what is where. The place is immaculately clean and the staff were all very kind and helpful. This was my first time in so I'll provide another update upon a return trip. The prices were fair and average for an ACE store and considering the side of town. All in all it's super convenient for those in the area to now have a local hardware store nearby.
