Sooo I used to work at a Spicemeisters , which was similarly connected to Dunderbaks. This was a great flashback and brought back some memories. It would be awesome if they had the store in it like Spicemeisters did. With all the important candy, food mixes, and all the other specialties items. They carried a German mint that was to die for. This location only has a stand of marzipan and beers. Anyhow, the service was TOP notch and food was Great! Excellent spaetzel! Excellent everything! Glad we made the trip! read more

My husband and I used to frequent Dunderbak's in the early 2000's when we were just dating - we always loved getting a delicious hotdog or bratwurst and enjoying it with their delicious german mustards. I recently took my 11 year old son there and it was so nice and refreshing to see that not much has changed - still a lovely atmosphere, awesome and friendly servers, and good, authentic food. I hope someone keeps the tradition of Dunderbak's alive for generations to come! read more

06/07/24 @12:13PM We sat at the bar - SHAYLA N. served us. She was also training someone at the same time. She forgot to give me silverware & mustards - which is why you go to the Dunderbak. It is the only German restaurant in like a 50 mile radius. I think there is one on South Street in Philadelphia which serves Schnapps & authentic German/Bavarian dishes. This is ONLY a beer bar. 4 STARS for Shayla N. I come here for the Weinkraut & hotdogs. They also have an excellent selection of Mustards. I am the type of person that loves hotdogs with my mustard & weinkraught -- not the other way around. lol The service was so-so. Our waitress was friendly but forgot my silverware & the $13 St.Bernardus abbey 12 that was on tap was skunked. I had to send it back & get myself a bottled beverage. Then i asked a perfectly legitimate question about their weinkraught. I just asked if it was fermented in wood barrels or in cans. She said 'cans.' Then I asked her where is it from? Is it from Germany or Lancaster? She didn't know. So I asked Jacob, who's been working there for 4 years, where the weinkraught is sourced from - he didn't know either. I asked he could be so kind & check the label. He responded by saying, 'yea, & then you can teach me how to read, too.' I thought to myself - you're an absolute dick. And when I called him out on his patronizing attitude, he told me he was 'just being silly.' And I thought, I'm not your friend - I don't know you; a restaurant employee should not talk to people like that. ONE STAR for Jacob. I'd like a response from the manager about this experience. I'm posting the same review on GOOGLE, TripAdvisor & OpenTable. Overalll the food was good, the hotdog, the weinkraught, the perogies - ALL excellent. It was the condescending attitude of the MALE server that was annoying. I've been coming here for 20 years & ya know what, I don't think I'll be coming back. The manager didn't even come over to me & apologize for the $13 skunked Belgian beer. Have been here countless times, but not for a number of years. I remember why we liked it so much when our kids were young. Unique and fun ambiance that makes you forget your in a mall. Food is much more interesting than the run of the mill options. This is the only German restaurant around the area, it's situated inside the Leigh Valley Mall on the first floor, next to Macy's. In door dining is open as well as outside the restaurant. You can place an order on the left side and the right side is an indoor dining area. We ordered pierogis and German Sampler for takeout! The food is freshly made. Delicious and authentic taste! Staff wore masks and are friendly. There is a section where you can purchase a selection of beers and souvenirs (see pics). Bathroom is clean - soap and paper towels are well stocked. Very cool to have a German restaurant in a large shopping mall. The days of non-chain restaurants in the mall seemed to have died 30 years ago, so that is great it is here. I'm an avid German food eater, so when I see one in town I stop by. I ordered the pork shank with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The pork shank was also covered in a bed of reddish gravy. The pork meat was good. The skin had a soft, slow cooker type exterior. I could be wrong, but the mashed potatoes had the texture of being microwaved. The sauerkraut meshed so-so with the meal. As I was telling our server I can't believe I've been coming to Lehigh Valley Mall for over 20 years and never stopped in Dunderbak's. I've stopped in front many times to take in the great aroma of German food and even walked in quite a few times to look around at beer mugs and stuff but never ate there. Today my wife and I stopped in for lunch and I'm happy we did. The food and service was great. We will definitely be back. Our server was really good too. Very nice and attentive. Even though it's not my cup of tea, this is a great spot to get authentic German cuisine. This restaurant is located on the bottom floor of the Lehigh Valley Mall right next to Macy's You have the option to dine at the actual restaurant, or order their food in a more fast-food style, and grab a table out front in the mall. Out of everything I tried "The Hun" ( Knockwurst topped w/ cheddar cheese sauce and bacon) was my favorite item. I won't rush to come back here, but I can see why so many people love it. read more

Who can resist a bar in the Mall? German restaurant with themed decor and authentic cuisine. My boyfriend and I enjoy a meal here every time we're out at the mall. Fried pickles are delicious. The pickles are spears and the batter has a nice coating of breadcrumbs. I usually get a turkey on pita because I love how fresh the deli tastes and the pita is soft and warm. My new favorite is the turkey Rachel on marble bread grilled. Topped with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing it's so good! My boyfriend always gets a bratwurst. Perfect portion sizes and fairly priced. Love this place and highly recommend! They even have a quick service station if you don't wanna sit down in the restaurant with a server. We were in this area of Pennsylvania and looking for German fare. This popped up. Surprised it was located in a mall, but it got good reviews so we thought we would try it. I wish we had realized there are two sides to the restaurant. To the left side is the market (quick, counter service). We ordered pastrami sandwiches and soup. The mushroom soup was outstanding. The pastrami was decent. The side of German potato salad was just average - and am guessing it was out of the cans they sell at the counter. I wish we had realized that the right side was a full service restaurant. It might have been more of what we wanted. read more

So I have no clue why I never knew this restaurant existed. Although I have passed by many times, I always assumed it was a deli/market/coffee shop. We were pleasantly surprised and took a table for 3. The host was welcoming, our server was sweet and informative. The food is amazing. We each had soup-sandwich combo. A cup of soup and half a sandwich with either fries or chips and a pickle. We also had the soft pretzels and they were absolutely delicious. Had my usual ( chicken fajita pita) ,;grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese in a toasted pita bread, go to order here , it was so predictable the waitress knew it by seeing my husband n I. Tried the quesadilla appetizer one night as we were being curious. ( I kinda was nervous. Mexican in a German restaurant , but it was absolutely delicious and is now my favorite. Guess my go to is changing. Hubby sticks with chicken strips platter or tuna wrap both also yummy. Definitely worth the trip for a reasonable price and good food. read more

Not a bad place considering where it's located. Although it is not exactly cheap they do serve a decent variety of sandwiches, soups, and a few entrees although the main draw is obviously the overwhelming variety of beer that is offered. Some of the german/dutch menu items are not very good as they taste either weird or very vinegary but most things are simple and to the point. One note would be to stay away from the desserts as they are grossly overpriced and stay away from the appetizers as they normally just taste bad and are fried beyond belief. read more

There are so many things to love about this place. Personally, it's a bit of home as we find ourselves coming here every time we visit family. I love that it's tucked away in a corner by Macy's in the mall. I love to see how it draws locals to sit outside of the restaurant and enjoy a dog or brat while chatting about the day. Most of all I love and appreciate the service. Jen is our FAVORITE waitress. She's personable, funny, efficient and is always good tor recommendations on the menu. Jen goes above and beyond to make sure dietary requests are met. If you're lucky, Kevin the manager, will visit your table and keep you quite entertained with small talk to make you feel welcome. (But beware he's a tried & true Phillies fan!) No dish disappoints but for lunch we always seem to be drawn to the Rachel, 1/2 soup Sandwich combo, pot roast ciabatta and burgers. There's also a nice kids menu. We also never leave without grabbing a bottle or two of the mustard in the market. I got two hot dogs in a bun, nothing special about them at all. They were not any specialty dogs, just supermarket hot dog in a supermarket bun. $7.99!!!! She said, "because she rung it as a platter", WELL, IT WASN'T A PLATTER!!!! Then she tells me it would have been cheaper if she just rung two hot dogs!!!! Instead, she rung it as a platter, "with no sides"! I asked her to fix it, as she odviously rung it wrong, then refused to fix it. She said she was the assistant manager Rachael. Good god. I just ate one of the best sandwiches I ever had in my life here. So satisfying. It was called the "Rachel" and I had it with pastrami. It was topped with coleslaw but not really enough so I got extra and put it on top, and it was just PERFECT. I got it served hot, with rye bread. You need to try one. I hope I didn't overhype it.
