We normally go there for breakfast once a week never an issue. We decided to try dinner huge mistake! We walked in asked if they were closing because only a handful of people inside, they said no. Ok so we were ignored by our server who went to another table that came in 10 min after us, again it was empty inside! We ordered food came out items were missing , server said they were out of items , no problem order something else, ordered turkey club , it came out with one slice of meat on it, this is when we should have left we stayed anyways. The worst part of this experience was they were actually mopping the floor right next to us, nothing like the sweet smell of lysol while you are eating , we didn't even finish our meals and got up to leave , went to pay the bill and I told the server we won't be back.. her response was well we are closing thats why he was mopping , we specifically asked if they were when we came in. She could have cared less.. $50 wasted ! read more

The green beans (fresh from the can) had some kind of funky vinegarish odor/taste - likely probably came from a 20 year old can. The croquettes were just nasty and the gravy even nastier. I get at these types of places usually salt and pepper aren't added but there was no seasoning to any of the food we got. Worst meal of my life! read more

Update: went for breakfast "post" pandemic (08/07/2021) and received pleasant and friendly service and a couple of excellent omelets. Service was immediate and friendly, server knew the menu well. Food was fresh, hot and most importantly they do not skimp out on the CHEESE!!! Yum! Recommend for breakfast read more

First ordered the broiled seafood combo--stuffed flounder, haddock filet, crab cake, and 4 shrimp-- was great! (Although there is almost no crabmeat in the "crab cake", (and what was there appeared to be fake "crab delites" or the equivalent). But I lived on the Chesapeake Bay for 30 years, so I'm really, REALLY picky about crab dishes. Even so, the "crab cake_ was tasty, as was the stuffing in the flounder. The shrimp were a nice size and the haddock was both perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. Reasonably priced ($26.95) and comes with 2 sides plus soup or salad. Then I tried it again a few days later. Same ingredients, but the chef apparently thought I wanted it "blackened", because it was too well done--,,almost burnt, in fact--and with a miserly, by comparison, amount of tartar sauce. Still a good deal, but not as good as the first time. Next time (and there will be one), I'll instruct them to not overcook it and throw in more tartar sauce, which should take care of my disappointment. Good news: they have a drive up window (open until 7 pm), so you can call in your order & pick it up with your hair in rollers, or whatever. Hope I'm not being overly critical, because the truth is, I'll go back again and try more of the menu. All in all, Slate Belt Diner gets my"thumbs up" read more

It's 2022, and you see 2 Wi-Fi signals for this place only to find out "we don't give out that information " !! Really, I got a tuna melt on rye, which must have been near the end of the loaf very small pieces of bread and a ice tea $9.00 and no Wi-Fi. I won't be back! read more

The best damn breakfast spot in the neighborhood. They serve up a mean Western omlette and for the budget conscious, the $6.95 weekday special is no slouch at stoking up your boiler. Food is exceptional and bottomless coffee is better than any diner coffee this side of the Delaware. Definitely worth my return business!! read more

Stopped in early on a Sunday morning. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, and home fries. My husband had a Greek omelette. Food and coffee were both delicious and fresh. Prices were reasonable, as well. Will definitely visit again! read more

We have given this place a number of chances, but today will be the last time we visit. They are taking advantage of the current situation and price gouging. It may have been a little different if you had explained about the extra fee for food when we ordered, but instead you waited until we arrived and had to pay. Besides charging us an extra fee because you are loosing money during social distancing, your food today was sub-par. First you cooked my French Toast on a dirty griddle (the proof was the piece of broccoli stuck to my French toast). Then as I continued to examine my food I found egg shells cooked into my French toast as well. So not only did I get over charged, I got crappy food.
