I don't think I'd ever visited a Dunham's Sports before but Nate was looking for an ankle brace that they didn't have at Dick's Sporting Goods, so we stopped by this place while in the area. Walking in I noticed right away that it just didn't have the same shiny feel as a Dick's, so I dubbed it the discount Dick's. The lighting for sure was not the best, but the merchandise was all displayed well for the most part and the store was basically empty when we visited. We asked an employee at the checkout where to find what we were looking for. They directed us to the wrong area, but it was close enough that was found the braces. They had a ton of options for these as well as tape and all kinds of protective sport gear. The store was pretty big but we mainly stayed in one area. I saw lots of apparel including some nice looking Lions gear. The parking lot here is not the best with lots of four way stops that seem to really confuse people, but if it's not too busy it can be okay. read more

We went to buy shoes for our son and there were two ladies working in the shoe section. We found some shoes and wanted to get some in his size but neither one came to check or ask us if we needed assistance. The worst part was one looked right at us and kept walking. I then approached them and asked if we could get some help with sizing and got the impression that I was interrupting them. The younger lady went to check on sizing and came back with none in the size we were looking for and them just walked off and we had to approach them again to ask for another shoe size and again walked off when none in the size were available. This happened three times in total. I would have thought she would have asked if she could find anything else in his size. The store was not busy and we were the only people in the shoe section. If you need shoes and don't need ANY assistance, then go as the prices were good. If you want ANY type of service, then I would avoid this store. read more

I had been looking to upgrade my kayak for a while. I figured with spring on its way I would start looking around for options. The three different craft I had in mind were well researched for my needs. Of those three you looked as though one was available at Dunham's sports. At least, that's the way it appeared on their website. Whatever you do, never use the Dunham's website. Do not use it to check for availability of items, do not use it to confirm prices, and most importantly do not use it for in store purchase pickups. I had saved up the amount of money I was willing to spend on a kayak but figured since it was Dunham's I would also be buying a new wet bag, a paddle, and while I was at it I was going to get my fishing license for the year. The kayak I was looking at was the old town dirigo 10 ft angler kayak. According to the website it was on clearance and there were several stores in the Grand Rapids area that had them. It would not let me order online so I decided to go in person in the store. About a month ago I had noticed the 12 ft angler at the 28th Street store and talked with a guy there about it. I had mentioned that 12-footers are great for tracking as you paddle and give a little bit more stability gliding through the water but something like a 10 would be better suited for me due to the fact that I'm often in small rivers or trying to traverse through chains of lakes which often requires going through small swamp or marshy areas or small creeks making that extra few feet a bit of a burden. The fellow there had mentioned that they have the exact same kayak in a 10-ft model same color and everything usually in stock. When I went online to purchase it for in-store pickup it would not let me and just said it was available in store only at the Plainfield Dunham's. So, on a Sunday afternoon after running my errands I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger and went to the Dunham's. The two individuals up front did not know a lot about The kayaks they just pointed me in a general direction to the south side of the store. I searched for a while and then figured maybe I couldn't find it or perhaps it was somewhere else or maybe had been sold. An older gentleman asked me if I needed any help and I told him exactly what I was looking for. He showed me an Old Town kayak sitting in the front of the store that wasn't angler but not the dirigo model. He then showed me a whole another area of kayaks separated from all the kayaks they had in the front. However, none of them were Old Town models either. He then said he would look in the warehouse in the back for me and I explained to him that it was available online and even showed it to him on my phone where it said in store only. He was gone searching for a while and came back with nothing but then showed my other manufacturers kayaks that I was not interested in. I called back down to the 28th Street store and asked if they had any there still. The individual that answer the phone could not help me but acted as though he was put down all my information and was going to transfer me to that area. I was on hold for no longer than 5 minutes when someone answered. "Hello?, Can I help you?" I replied, "yes, I'm calling about the kayak" The store clerk replied,"What kayak?" "The kayak I just talked to the other guy about." "I don't know what you're talking about which kayak are you looking for?" I repeated all the same information and told him the story up to that point. He then replied: "oh yeah, our website sucks you can never go by that you should just call or stop in." "Well, that's why I'm calling now." He took down the information and put me on hold. He came back saying they did not have it and perhaps they had it at the North store. I told him I was standing in the north store on my phone with the website open showing the people there and they didn't have it either. "Sorry, our website sucks, man." I noticed that another store existed in Grandville so I called there. I was put on hold again and then transferred to the correct area. I think the fella's name that answer the phone was Nate or Nick. I told him the entire story yet again and he said that they may have some by Tuesday the 5th since there's a shipment arriving on that particular day and I should call back. He also lamented about the website and how none of the stores share inventory information and then exclaimed it's all pretty random you just kind of got to get lucky with what we have at each store. This is how you run a business? This is how you compete with huge places like amazon? This was absurd. Not only did I leave without a kayak, I had personally driven to two of these places and had to deal with people that had very little customer service skills and absolutely zero knowledge of the products that Dunham's carries. While our purchase experience was fine (I thought), we are quite disappointed that unlike most retailers, Dunham's won't honor a reduced price within 7 days of purchase (purchased on Friday, but went on sale for 20% off on Saturday ($50)). Given that Dunham's won't honor a change, the salespersons could give a heads up of pending sales. read more

Pretty lame store to have "nobody beats our prices... guarenteed" posted all through out the store and then not offer price matching for a competing product from a competing retailer. I would have been happy to buy from your store, but when the exact same item is selling for $200 cheaper elsewhere, it's pretty easy to walk out without buying anything. read more

It is amazing when the prices are so high and the service is so low that at nearby tjmaxx I found more selection of a particular ua pant at half the price. My first choice will never be Dunham's again. read more

I don't know how this place stays in business. I went there today and I couldn't find a single employee on the sales floor to help me. When I went to check out, the cashier actually stopped in the middle of the transaction to respond and send a text from her phone. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more
