Typical franchise, doughnuts are small and rarely fresh while the coffee is watered down

The space is very bright with gold and color everywhere on a bright little corner in Claymont and has good parking in front and around back. But what is really exciting is that when you step through the door and walk to the counter, you see how interesting the menu on offer really is. I had every intention of having a breakfast sandwich or bagel, but once I saw the whole menu and saw that I could order a noodle bowl for breakfast, the game had changed. I also ordered a delicious cappuccino which was extremely hot, almost too hot, but was very espresso forward and perfect for the morning. However, the two bagels we ordered, one for my wife and one for my youngest daughter, despite being delicious, had barely any cream cheese on them at all. The noodle bowl and rice bowl that we got were also tasty but there was nothing exceptional about them or to make them stand out other than my initial excitement that I could order noodles for breakfast. Everything was made by hand and done right then and there and fairly quickly and everything was very fresh as well as everyone that we interacted with being very helpful and upbeat when we ordered. I even asked about getting one of their very fun shirts they have available. If you happen to be passing on 495, a quick two minute drive off the exit will get you here and it's worth it rather than heading to some chain. Hop on by and enjoy a delicious coffee and possibly some noodles for breakfast if that's your thing like it is mine!

That's exactly why I try to be patient and respectful when I'm on the other side of the counter. Unfortunately, my experience at this Dunkin' was still disappointing. I was already hesitant to come back after my first visit because I ordered an iced macchiato and it had very little espresso and was mostly milk. I decided to give this location another chance, but unfortunately, my second experience was even more frustrating. When I walked in, I went up to the counter and no one greeted me, so I ended up placing my order myself. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese, an additional side of cream cheese, a medium iced macchiato with light ice, and a small caramel cold foam cold brew. When my order was ready, a man came over and asked if I wanted cream cheese on my bagel. I said yes. When I checked my bag, I noticed that the EXTRA side of cream cheese I had specifically paid for was missing. I politely mentioned it, and instead of simply correcting the mistake, he became defensive and told me that this was why he had asked me the first time if I wanted cream cheese on my bagel. I explained that I understood his question, but I had also paid for an additional side of cream cheese, so I naturally expected it to be included. I wasn't asking for anything free or unreasonable. It was a small request that could have easily been handled with a simple, "I'm sorry, let me grab that for you." Instead, I felt embarrassed being spoken to that way in front of other customers over something so minor. Unfortunately, my drink was also disappointing. Once again, my iced macchiato tasted like almost nothing but milk. I could barely taste any espresso at all. This was the exact same issue I had during my first visit, so at this point it feels like a recurring problem rather than a one-time mistake. As someone who has worked in fast food and customer service, I know firsthand that customers can be difficult and that employees have bad days. I don't expect perfection. What I do expect is basic courtesy, especially when a customer politely points out something that was missing from an order they paid for. I really wanted to give this location another chance, but after two disappointing experiences with both the customer service and the quality of my drink, I don't think I'll be returning. Mistakes happen--it's how you handle them that makes the difference.

I have now sampled the button holes, the glazed and jelly donuts, and some of the sweet potato pie. Why the hell did I wait this long? I'll just give you my exact quote while tasting the button hole for the first time in their shop: "MMMMM... to hell with Krispy Kreme!" And my wife's exact words when i brought them home... "We are never going to Dunkin Donuts again!" My favorite donuts in the Philly area in recent years have been Beiler's in Reading Terminal. These are right there with them. I'm calling it a tie overall. But the glazed donuts might be better than anything Beiler's has if that makes sense. They make Krispy Kreme look like a two day old Wawa donut. Lawd have mercy! Get there early and don't expect them to have everything you want. They're small and they get sold out fast. But get whatever you can when you're there and just love it. As I was writing this I also took a bite of the Boston Cream donut. My wife and I agree. It's not too sweet which is actually perfect. They seem to know just how much sweetness works here. They're smart. I won't wait years to go back again. I promise.
