A couple of family members joined us there. Both ordered plates of shrimp and grits and enjoyed them, as well as two side dishes that accompanied the entrees -- especially the deep fried "blooming " onion. Although my order of Greek salad was fresh and tasty, the added chicken proved tough and gristly. (However, it could have simply been a bad day for grilled chicken.) My husband, who is currently undergoing cancer treatments, ordered several dishes of vegetables but was feeling so badly when our meals arrived, he was unable to eat. This is when Cagney's began to shine -- service. Service is near the top of our review checklist, and can make or break any dining experience. Our waitress, Chloe, was (and, I believe, is) gold. Although a busy evening with a "full house," she waited on us quickly, got our order straight on the first try and updated us twice on one item coming out of the kitchen a few minutes after everything else. She checked on us from time to time and noticed my husband's fading energy. She noticed that he left the restaurant to relax in the car while we finished our meal. She asked if I might like to take his meal, which remained untouched, with me. When she returned with the take-home container, she had written a personal message on the lid and offered kind words and a warm hug for me. The next day, my husband asked me to warm his leftover meal so that he could have it for lunch. He said it was delicious. That alone is worth a great review. Add in Chloe, and dining at Cagney's was stellar.

It's decorated like an old-time diner with very modern paintings on the wall for sale. Interesting juxtaposition. The waitress gave me two menus, the regular menu and a breakfast menu, but if you know me, I was only interested in breakfast (even though it was lunchtime). Online info says this place is famous for its omelettes so I had to try one. I ordered the sausage with cheese omelette with a side of grits and a biscuit. It came out faster than I thought it would. The omelette turned out to be the kind that I love, a thin layer of egg with ingredients rolled up inside like a pinwheel. I don't run across those very often and I always enjoy them. It was full of cheese and sausage and was quite enjoyable. The grits were excellent. The biscuit was more of a roll type than the standard country biscuit, but it was fresh and tasty. When I first walked in, I saw the daily specials and desserts listed on a chalkboard. I love carrot cake so I asked for a piece, thinking I'd get a nice little slice. The waitress brought it to me and I just about fainted - this slice of cake was almost a quarter of a cake. It was massive. I ended up eating maybe an eighth of it and asking for a box to take the rest home. It was a lovely, lovely carrot cake and I highly recommend it. As a side note, as I said it was lunchtime and the majority of the other diners were ordering more typical lunch food. The two ladies across from me ordered the daily special, pot roast. Now I am not much of a pot roast person, but this not only looked delicious, it smelled heavenly. I can only surmise that their regular food is just as good as their breakfast food. This is a very nice little casual place that I highly recommend.

Faced with a banana French toast craving, it seemed as good an option as any, and it proved to be better than expected. Cagney's is spacious and seemed even more so as it was largely empty when I stopped by on a Tuesday morning (they likely get considerably busier on the weekends). The menu is big too: breakfast options included plates, omelets, benedicts, pancakes, waffles, and more. Come here later in the day, and you can find everything from salads and sandwiches to Greek to Tex-Mex to pizza. I opted for two pieces of Bananas Foster French Toast with a scrambled egg on the side. Service was fast and friendly, and the kitchen churned out the food quickly. At $8, it was practically a steal and though not the best I've had (it could have used some chopped nuts), it was better than it needed to be for that price point. The banana/brown sugar/whipped cream topping on the French toast made for a sweet bite, and the egg wasn't overcooked. I don't know how Cagney's rates as a lunch/dinner option or during busier times, but for a weekday breakfast, it's well worth your consideration for a good bite at an affordable price.

I've tried the buffalo chicken pizza which was surprisingly good. The right amount of spice, crispy crust and generous toppings. Within the group we also had the pork chops. They were much thinner than expected. The two together make 1 decent pork chop. However, they were well seasoned and cooked properly. To be so thin, they were not dry. The waitress recommended the chicken souvlaki platter which was a hit. It's a busy restaurant but luckily we did not have to wait to be seated even on a weekend evening. I'll be going again.

Our server was tired (given it was 8:00PM) but was very helpful and was willing to do whatever to make us happy. I ordered a medium rare ribeye, and I received a medium ribeye. My dad ordered a medium ribeye, and received a medium rare ribeye. I guess they put our steaks on the wrong plate?! Idk, but it's fine. I like creamy horseradish with my steak, and asked for the ingredients to make it and said I would make it myself, but our server made it for me! That was very kind of her! They have 36 different sides that you can choose from. I got a side salad with ranch and fries. Their salad came with shredded lettuce pieces which was odd and kind of hard to eat. The side house salad just comes with grape tomatoes and purple onions on it. The ranch is nothing special. The fries had nothing wrong with them and hit the spot! Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, which is a good thing and should be the number one goal of a restaurant (and they met it). I can't be too mad at Cagney's for my medium steak.
