Ok let's start with selection. There are so many choices you might need to let some regulars pass,…read morethis might take a moment. I went with the sausage and pepper jack cheese, and it was delightful. Also had a glazed blueberry cake donut, my go-to to judge across all donut places, and it was a solid 8. Next time I'm going to try the Jimmy Dean sausage or the Granzins. Location is good, right on the corner of FM725 and IH-35 North frontage road, be careful GPS might send you to the south side. As for ambience, it's a donut shop for goodness sake, but it does have a couple tables which is nice. And finally service, it is a lively place and apparently not to forgiving for those who don't know exactly what they want. Felt rushed, and had our tab closed out before we could order drinks, so we just paid and went next door to Whataburger and got our drinks.

I like to think of myself as a donut, connoisseur. I love donuts, especially the cake ones. Donut…read morePalace has a variety of glazed and cake donuts. And come holidays some really beautifully decorated quite. They have heart shaped donuts for Valentine's Day and Great decorated for Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday donuts. In addition they have kolaches. I tried the one that has a sausage patty in it and it was such a good breakfast that really fills you up. Assortment of sausage kolache's, and they also have a very large kolache for those of you who have a big appetite .Of course I'll be back because the donuts are delicious.

The bakery was founded in 1868; it is recognized as the oldest continuously operating bakery in Texas. Naegelin Bakery is located in downtown New Braunfels, which makes it convenient for sightseeing and picking items up to enjoy while engaging in local activities. The bakery has old-world charm...old school display cases and shelving along with the quintessential bakery smell. You are immediately drawn into the bakery web. Definitely an ole school bakery... Naegelin's is known for traditional German baked goods, including apple strudel, kolaches (both fruit and meat), German rye bread, and its iconic pink-frosted Lebkuchen cookies. According to bakery staff, many recipes are still based on formulas developed generations ago. I purchased apple strudel, oatmeal raisan cookies and a piece of cheesecake. All were good, however, the strudel was the standout. The bakery also offers a wide range of breads, cakes, doughnuts, and seasonal items, making it easy to find something regardless of taste or occasion.

I always spent a few minutes with her before looking at the wonderful offerings. Oma sometimes would award me with a free cookie. I was in heaven! I haven't been to Naegelin's for over 20 years. I am happy to say that it is even better than I remembered. Naegelin's is a "don't miss" stop whenever in New Braunfels.

This place is one of my go-to spots whenever I'm in New Braunfels!…read more The donuts are solid, but the kolaches are where it's at. They do an egg wash on the kolache bread, which gives them a beautiful finish and keeps them from being dry or dusty (if you know, you know). Bonus: the bread is savory, not sweet like some other places--and I'm all about that. Pro tip: Get there early and grab a boudin kolache while they're still available. I haven't found another place that makes them! What's boudin? (Pronounced BOO-dan, BOO-din, or the French BOO-dah) It's a Cajun sausage made with pork (sometimes duck), rice, herbs, and spices--often including liver or heart. Don't let that throw you off--it's incredibly flavorful. Think: a soft, fresh roll stuffed with cozy, Thanksgiving-style filling. They also make some great apple fritters and bear claws, but again--early bird gets the good stuff. The owners are kind and hardworking, and I love that it's locally owned and operated. Support your community, y'kno! The front staff is friendly too--they remembered me after three years hiatus! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in town. Even worth making a excuse to go!
