I had the pleasure of meeting 2 employees this past weekend who were very friendly and helpful. I wish all young people were more like them.

When you first walk in, you're not entirely sure if you walked in the right door, except it smells…read morelike fried bread (not necessarily donuts) and coffee. It has a small town community center vibe, and there are seating options available to enjoy your donuts once you purchase them. I love this rec-center vibe. The donuts themselves are pretty much what you would expect in terms of basic variety. There wasn't a huge variety available, but there were plenty of flavor options to choose from for even the pickiest of donut eaters. Strangely one immediate complaint that I have about the donuts right off the bat is that there's actually way too much icing or glaze. I got an old fashioned and two krulers, and some others, but there's so much icing on them that the donuts are completely lost and I'm literally crunching on pure chunks of recrystalized sugar on the old fashioned. I never imagined I'd have that complaint, but it is a bit overwhelming. I'll try the others later. I could not finish the old fashioned donut though because it was too sugary. (Took me 3 times to eat that one donut) There was a very tall gentleman in there that assisted me with my order. He was very pleasant and patient with me while I figured out what to put in my collection. Afterward, I sat down and ate part of my old fashioned donut to which he inquired about the quality. I told him it was good, but I should not have. I thought maybe I was just having a sugar issue with the old fashioned. I didn't realize it till I got the entire box home that they are all very heavily coated with the glaze. I thought the box was exceptionally heavy for 6 donuts... In any case, it doesn't really matter. Other than the Bit of Swiss business up the road, this is the only donut shop in town and I'm guessing the one you'll be stopping at when you roll through here as well. I love supporting local businesses and I'm glad this isn't a krispy kream, but I will say there's a little bit more that could be done in terms of enhancing the ambiance of their shop, as well as managing the overall glaze that coats the donuts. But the people were friendly and they were open early, so it was all good. *NEXT DAY I'm staying in an air bnb and Im actually going to take my donuts back. I took one bite of the kruler (yesterday when I got back to the b&b) and it was not good. All sugar on the outside, burnt exterior, but the inside was either raw or I don't know what. It was like wet bread. Literally. Pasty, gloopy, and so greasy/oily. Definitely an issue with the oil, and perhaps the recipe as well. Either way, I don't want to eat the rest and will take them back on my way out of town today. And by the way, it was like $20+ for a cup of coffee and 1 old fashioned, 2 krulers, 1 custard long-john, 1apple fritter, and a peanut butter filled. The long-john was okay, not enough custard and the pastry was dry, over-fried. The apple fritter was also a little burnt outside, but the apple ratio was good. It still was coated too heavily with sugar. I had to peel some of the thicker chunks off first. One bite of kruler and I won't eat that. Nope. I hope they have a better batch today. So, final thoughts... I just dropped off the bad donuts and the owner only refunded the 2 krulers even though I didn't eat the peanut butter one either, and that was after she got really defensive about her krulers (as if I'd never had one) and she refused to receive even the tiniest bit of feedback. Its obvious they were burned, over glazed, and raw in the center but she chose to make me feel badly about bringing them back, then she refunded me from her employee tip jar! What? She was so uncomfortable and unwilling to even listen to me that I felt angry leaving, even though I tried to be gentle. Whatever. My review was going to increase from 3 to 4 if they handled this well, but she didn't. Now it goes down farther than normal because customer service is important but was really lacking here by the actual owner, not the pleasant employee, though. She really put him in a strange position.

In addition to their small and medium plates menu, their recent "themed" meals have proven to be immensely popular thus far, and there's no surprise why this intimate, chic, yet approachable restaurant in Benton Harbor is always packed! The mixologists at the bar, are very knowledgeable and take their craft seriously! They are willing to alter and/or curate a cocktail to your liking if you don't find one on their menu. This place is a Southwestern Michigan fav, so make reservations in advance and go! Street parking is readily available.

We sat at the counter and enjoyed getting to witness the culinary team at work preparing the dishes! We had two starters; Duck Wings and Tuna Crudo. Here again we were thrilled with our selection and Halibut got the slight nod for the winner The restaurant is small so make reservations to ensure you get in! Energy is great and staff was engaging and top level service. Highly recommend even for those looking for an alternative to driving to Chicago to get a great culinary experience! Order at your own risk…read more I pulled up to this store to purchase bags of ice from the convenience store and grab an iced coffee while I was at it. I pulled up and saw two male employees standing outside the store and both were smoking. I went inside, made my ice purchase from the convenience store and then walked over to the DD counter to order my iced coffee. The other employees behind the counter seemingly pretended like they didn't see me so I stood and waited. When the two male employees that were outside smoking came in they both walked behind the counter, and one took my order, and the other one started making another drink order. No gloves, no washed hands, nothing. I asked the manager if employees had to wash their hands after smoke breaks and he said they already wear gloves. Which neither one of them had done. My order was made by someone else but I don't think I will be returning until I have emailed corporate. Disgusting and unsanitary!

Nowadays one rarely encounters what was once so common at these coffee places, fresh doughnuts or police officers. This one is in a gas station near the Interstate and away from the worst Meijer gas station in the world, so that's how I came in here; in search of coffee, a lavatory, a snack, and petrol for the car. With the gasoline pumped, I came in to take care of the private business and had to wait in line. The line was right next to the Dunkin. The doughnuts and coffee right next to the toilet doors. The doors that were open for many a flush. And the toilets were none too clean. I didn't get any doughnuts after all, and I suggest you don't either.
