A very popular restaurant for good reason! The food was very good. We were seated near the kitchen, not ideal, but, it gave as a look into how the staff works. The service staff hustles. On the night we were there, there was obviously a problem in the kitchen as we,along with others, waited a long time for our main courses. The servers were all waiting by the kitchen service window but the food was slow to come out. The positive side of the situation was that they acknowledged and apologized for the delay. They were attentive and in the end, without us commenting, they removed some of the changes from our bill. Very fair. Delicious dinner. read more

Our first night in Dublin and we came here for dinner and it was so good! The restaurant is beautiful with the wine bottles on display and the lighting is cozy and warm. Perfect for a date night! Service was friendly and attentive. The food was full of flavor. We got the bread to start, and for our entrees we enjoyed the mushroom and beef ravioli and the frutti di mare. Came here on a sunday night with 4 people and no reservation and they were able to seat us for dinner. The servers and hostess here were super nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed at all and they let us take our time to chat even after dinner was over. The food was pretty good - really good pasta, fresh, with the perfect amount of bite. The ravioli (beef with mushroom) and the tagliatelle rage were highlights for me! The goat cheese salad was a bit too overdressed in my opinion and the bruschetta was good but don't forget that the balsamic is on the table!! Drinks were really good and it had a sizeable wine list! An Italian Wine Bar and restaurant located neatly in a stoned alleyway close to Dublin's most frequented shopping sites. Environment: ambient yellow and soft white light, wine shelves all around, wooden chairs and tables, very cozy and modern vibe. Service: friendly. I sat down at 11:50 am and there were only three customers including myself at that time, so service was timely. The place started to become crowded and rather noisy starting at around 12:15-20 when I finished my starter. Starter: smoked salmon, salmon tasted fresh with after taste of briney salt water, went well with the goat cheese. Roasted fennel and raddish tasted refreshing and helped offset the fattiness of salmon. The attached garlic bread was made fresh, hot, and crispy, a decent platform to bite with a piece of salmon, some goat cheese, and veggies. Entree: Linguine ai frutti di mare, assorted seafood pasta. A bit too salty for my taste, it seems somebody put an extra pinch of salt before serving. On the up side, the linguine tasted al dente right on spot, tomato helped offset the salty taste, and all the seafood ingredients tasted very fresh: squids, mussels, even the small prawns tasted bouncy and briney. Overall: solid 4 stars. Had the pasta not been too salty, this would be a solid 4.5-5 star place. read more

Tl;dr: I've had way better pasta for a lot less money. My husband and I decided to drop in on a Thursday night for pasta. We were seated right away. We liked the welcoming atmosphere and quick and attentive service, but the food ranged from just okay to not very good. I wouldn't be so bitter about this had we been at a chain, but when you go to a fairly expensive, well known, family owned restaurant, you tend to be less forgiving and expect more. Especially since it's really easy to make delicious pasta. The best thing we ate was trofie pasta with pancetta, leeks, artichoke, and parmesan. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the pancetta was crispy in every bite. However, the dish was missing something. A rich, creamy sauce and some Italian seasoning could have helped bring it all together. Instead, the sauce (if you even want to call it a sauce - it may have just been drippings from the ingredients) was very watery. The tagliolini with beef ragu was borderline unenjoyable. I'm sad to say that it was honestly the worst ragu I've ever had. I've never had a ragu so flavorless except from maybe a can or jar. A bolognese sauce is so easy to make well, and there is such little prepping involved. Had it had some garlic and spices, it would have been a lot better. We also split some Campania buffalo mozzarella with peppers and sour dough bread. It was really good, but I can't really give them too much credit for it since all they did was assemble it. Such a delicious and enjoyable evening at Dunne and Crescenzi on our first evening in Dublin. I can't say enough about the enjoyable atmosphere, great wine and delicious food. This is the kind of restaurant I wish I could eat in each nice- friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, dark bookshelves lined with wine, great wine, delicious dinners and delectable desserts. We ordered two wonderful red wines, garlic and oil toast, and olives- all good starters. My hubby ordered the pork risotto and I ordered the pesto prawn pasta- both were incredible! Yesterday I visited Dunne and Crescenzi, and I think it's fair to say I'm very disappointed in the service we received. When we walked in we were sat in near enough a storage room by a table that had multiple things piled up on it, very untidy and messy. Although, service was quick and we ordered nearly straight away.... However, when food arrived one dish was cold and both the pastas were very undercooked. We mentioned to our server we weren't happy with our food and the most the manager could offer us was 2 deserts on the house, which we decided not to take because we weren't interested in staying there any longer, after a long discussion on why we didn't want to accept the deserts, we asked to speak to the manager who was extremely rude and dismissive. The first thing I said to the manager was, in a polite tone, "have you heard about what has happened" he immediately shuts me down in a very aggressive tone and says to me that "nothing has happened". Throughout the conversation the manager kept talking over me and asking me "are you done now?" multiple times. He told me that there was nothing wrong with the food and calling us liars telling us it was hot, when it most definitely was not. He also insinuated that we had no money and we were playing some sort of game, I would be more than happy to pay for the food and leave a tip, but not when I'm not happy with the service and the quality of food. His tone and manner was very aggressive and the constant eye rolls made my very socially anxious friend and I very very uncomfortable. He told us to stop embarrassing him when other customers are around, despite the fact that prior to this he was a embarrassing himself raising his voice and being very very rude. As soon as he left another customer asked if we were okay and multiple people shook their heads in disbelief. I wish I could post videos on here as the whole conversation was recorded! I am appalled at the service we received and I cannot believe he is a manager still after seeing other multiple reviews about the managers shocking behaviour. read more

Dunne & Crescenzi has become a tradition for our family when we're visiting my husband's family in Dublin. I love the atmosphere at D&C, it feels cozy and old world without looking like it popped up out of a premade kit. The dining room wine inventory adds a bit of charm, too. I like the variety of the menu and never have a hard time choosing something to eat, and I've never had a complaint about anything I've ordered. Same for my family. The servers are usually Italian, which I like, because I can sometimes practice my very rusty language skills. Service is attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient. Desserts are delicious. The food was really balanced and flavorful - pasta was the right texture and the cheeses were high quality (I got the mushroom ravioli). Staff is friendly and attentive. Very clean and staff wearing masks. Note: when making a reservation online you need to make sure you get an email confining it was actually accepted (not just requested). There was some confusion on this when I arrived, but they still were able to seat me, and sent me a glass of Prosecco for the trouble - a classy gesture. Almost as good as being in Italy - I love this whole chain of restaurants but this one is my favourite. It's so cozy and yet can fit really big groups. The food is fantastic with the most fantastic Italian ingredients. The bruschetta is probably the best I've ever had - the tomatoes are so full of flavour. I also love the meats & cheese that they serve - always top quality. The second thing I love is the staff. They all seem to be Italian and are full of enthusiasm and great sense of humour. It really makes it feel like a little piece of Italy. They do great hampers and all sorts of Italian food and drink that you can bring home The outdoor seating is lovely if only the weather was good and the traffic less busy. One of the most authentic Italian restaurants in Dublin. I went first to their sister restaurant in Sandymount with an Italian colleague years back (he swore it was the finest Italian in Ireland) and then have been to this location in town countless times since. Be sure to get the bruschetta or the larger bruschetta extreme...either way you're getting some of the freshest most flavourful tomatoes. I need to figure out where they source their tomatoes as they are simply amazing. Portions are large and reasonably priced for the quality. Although the menu is quite extensive, I always get the same thing...ie I start out with some bruschetta and then go for the steak filet. My dining companions usually opt for the homemade pasta dishes. The environment is very casual...small candlelit tables flanked by bookcases of wine. Despite a few too many tables (it's very crowded), Dunne & Crescenzi is a great place for a meal and by far your best option for Italian in Dublin. read more

This place is amazing! From service to the food! This was my second time here and they knocked it out of the park again! They even saw that my 4yr old son was sad and asked him why he was. My son said "I want toast and jam" I told my son they don't have toast and jam because it's not breakfast time. About 20 mins later they served my son toast and jam. And they don't even have jam that I saw. Absolutely amazing service and a very nice and happy staff. My lasagna and my wife's ravioli was phenomenal! Best I have ever eaten! My family I traveled to Dublin recently and spotted Dunne & Crescenzi by chance when walking along Nassau Street. We returned to our hotel and immediately asked the hotel staff about the restaurant. The staff raved about this restaurant and they were absolutely correct in their praise. We made a last minute reservation on Mother's Day and they were able to accommodate our large group. The restaurant staff was accommodating, friendly, and very knowledgeable of the menu. The staff provided us with excellent recommendations but it was two specials that caught our eye and both were amazing: Tonnarelli con gamberi e crema di pistacchi and Spaghetti al sugo di cozze pomodorini e peperoncino If you are in Dublin near Merrion Square or Nassau Street you must try this restaurant. When I first ate here, I absolutely loved it. Since, they've gotten rid of my favourite menu item which is incredibly disappointing. The service has always seemed pretty slow; it takes a long time to get food. On the plus side, the food is cooked fresh and they have an amazing wine selection. 12 noon was seated at the back of the restaurant in the middle of the staff serving aisle. Not a great start. Service was friendly but slow. This was not my first time, I've been going here for years. Good selection of glasses of wine list. I had the Tuscan sausage and beans - and the thing came plain as a naked baby, not even a dash of green parsley to brighten up this rather scary lugubrious looking dish of 4 (generous) imported Italian sausages and a mountain of while beans. The spaghetti dishes that I have had in the past have all been "authentic" but the kitchen just lacks imagination, it's too close to what you used to get at the Unicorn in the bad old days. This restaurant is now a stand-by, and it deserves its reputation but it could be so much more. It remains excellent value and a place to turn to when you want basic, reliable Italian. read more

It's hard to find things not to love about this city centre treasure. The extensive wine menu is fab, much of which is available by the glass. The food is great whether it be antipasti, pasta or entrées, and given the wine bar style, it's very relaxed and enjoyable. Prices are reasonable enough and there's a nice sense of bustle about the place. I'm not sure what more to say than that it's a definite addition to the city's eateries and the perfect place to catch up with friends over a few glasses glasses of good wine and nibbles or more. read more

An indication of authenticity in my eyes. All staff is natives: that made being with my companions a big advantage. Indeed, as was mentioned in an earlier review: the tables are a bit ramshackle, and do not offer quite enough legroom. The place was packed; reserving tables is a strongly advised! The orders came promptly, but the chef's specials, which were listed on a blackboard only in Italian by-the-way, came very late. When it came it was presented very well, and with apologies. This was well compensated when I tried the dish: tagliatella with beef... It was simply scrumptious! My first review of 2017 has to be for somewhere special, and Dunne & Crescenzi is it! This place is so, sooo good. Probably the best, and most authentic, Italian food I have ever had, aside from when I was in Italy. We have now been to Dunne & Crescenzi twice, and loved it both times, so yes, it's 5 stars all the way. When we travel to Ireland, we like to pick a nice place in Dublin to have a special "last meal of the trip", and Dunne & Crescenzi is definitely that place. The wait staff are mostly from Italy, and are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The wine list is excellent, and the food is amazing. And to top it all off, the prices are very reasonable. As other reviewers have said, the restaurant is not super large, and it is popular, so I definitely suggest making a reservation ahead of time (especially around the holidays), which can easily be done online, by walking in earlier in the day, or by calling them. We made our reservation online from the states about a week in advance, and it was a quick and easy process. On our most recent visit we started with a nice bottle of Italian red wine and the cheese board and some olives - both were a good portion size, perfect for sharing, and while I'm not sure what all of the cheeses were, they were delicious. For our mains, my husband had a beef and pork filled ravioli with freshly made sausage (suggested by our waiter, when he couldn't decide what he wanted, and it was a very good suggestion!), and I had the squid ink pasta with seafood and a light red sauce. Amazing. While the portions didn't look super large by American standards, believe me when I say that both pasta dishes were rich and flavorful, and the size ended up being exactly right. When the food is this good, you don't want a huge heaping plate of pasta! You want to savor each and every bite, and we did. To finish, we had tiramisu and cantucci (yay!!), and each enjoyed a glass of Vin Santo. Again, so delicious. I always order cantucci and Vin Santo (a traditional Tuscan dessert) when I see it on a menu, which isn't often, and I'm always so happy to be able to end my meal with such a light and tasty dessert. The pacing of the meal was just right, and we were really able to savor each course that we ordered without feeling rushed or like we had an overly long wait for anything. Wine and water glasses were kept refilled, and the service was as excellent as the food. So, suffice it to say, by the end of our meal we were full and so very happy. I have nothing but great things to say about Dunne & Crescenzi - it's one of our favorite restaurants in Dublin, and I'm already looking forward to the next time I'll be able to visit! read more

I hadn't been back to Dunne & Crescenzi for a few years but the food is still as tasty and delicious as it used to be. There is also a large choice on the menu. I especially liked their bruschetta, and the pasta with Porcini mushrooms and creamy Parmigiano. The place is always crowded so it is probably best to book a table in advance, at least on weekends. The only downside : the service was really slow and not the friendliest. It might have just been that night as the place was really busy. read more

This place is exactly what you would expect from an Italian - wine-lined walls, little (dare I say quaint?!) wooden tables, and genuine Italians. Avoiding the clichéd checkered table tops of many other 'traditional' establishments, it's inviting and cosy ,without that unfortunate bedfellow of many other such places - pretension. It just is and that's one of the nicest things about it. I usually go here for a coffee with friends, as it's one of the few proper cafés around. While I'm no coffee connoisseur (usually adhering to the 'quantity over quality' mantra), it is nice to get a cup of really good coffee, bitter and Italian. It's deal of €3.50 for a croissant and coffee means this is a perfect place to meet people and have a natter. Character, quality and Italian...sure what more could you want?! read more

The only good thing about this restaurant was the food and as far as Italian goes, I've had better. We had a salami platter and a vegetable platter to start. the bread was stale and there was only 3 small pieces given with each platter. the vegetables were bland and tasteless. The main was decent, a spaghetti with a tomato sauce with wild duck in it. The waiter was rude and arrogant, unhelpful and impatient as if we were inconveniencing him by simply being there. The table was far far too small, with both plates on the table for the main, we had to move all our glasses and the candle to another to simply have enough room for the plates. I have an Italian food obsession so I can definitely be picky at times when it comes to certain aspects of the dish, but they clearly knew what they were doing. We'd cobble together our Euro, and partake in the homey delicious-ness of Dunne & Crescenzi. Let me lay my bias on the table: this place utterly charms me. Even when we were ragged teenagers with sophisticated notions of ourselves, the people working here treated us wonderfully, and fed us top notch food. The small, wine-bottle lined dining room, wooden tables, and warm lighting, are beautiful without being trendy. At D&C enjoy a fine meal surrounded by pasta-stacked and wine-filled shelves and/or head next door to sample eats / taste wine and take your Italian goodies home! Enjoyed this spot over and again but most recently for a fabulous and hearty panini (at only seven euro) for lunch. About twelve of us took over a dining space for a weekday luncheon so this spot is great for groups during the week, especially if it's an off-peak time slot! Also, love grabbing a table for one - any time - and simply enjoying a glass of wine. There seems to be some confusion about the 'market' next door. Yes, there is another section next to the main establishment that some have referred to as a 'deli'. It offers wine tasting and fine and authentic italian-made items for purchase to go and it is indeed a bit of a delicatessen as well.
