So you can leave home without it when you come here When we asked if they had a table they said only if you are up from the table in an hour. We were hungry so we agreed The environment is dark and tasteful and lively The wine list is not good, but the food and the staff make up for everything The avocado and caprese salad was awesome The shrimp in wine sauce was off the charts delicious The chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto was delicious and the polenta and creamed corn were spectacular The monk fish wrapped in crispy pancetta on a bed of pesto basil was amazing To top it off we had the Nutella cheesecake with Carmel sauce and gelato with biscotti crumbs on top- this was surreal!!! The monthly special starter (Wild Mushroom Risotto) was amazing. Probably one of the best risottos I have ever had. We almost ordered another. After finishing the starter, it took a bit too long for the main dish to come out. Once it did come out, we were kind of full from the first dish. The wife for the Zucchini Primvera. The pasta seemed liked it could have been cooked a bit more. It probably needed another minute or so before it was Al Dente. Overall, the food was good and I would come back for sure. read more

A friend and I are visiting Dublin for two days before heading south. We heard a lot of great things about this place and came straight here after we landed from NYC Sunday brunchtime. The hostess was very accommodating - we originally had an earlier reservation date but due to our flight delay, missed our reservation. She seated us in a cozy corner in the back and was super friendly! We ordered Avacado on Toast and the Coco Puffs French toast (as so many reviewers had recommended) and the French road was amazing!!! Not too sweet, but definitely something you would share among girlfriends. The avacado toast is a good portion size for one person, and had a fresh taste to it with the pesto and garden greens. Usually this place is packed with people flooding out...no reservation, no luck! However....we got lucky last weekend (a Saturday...11:30am too!) and the lovely server had a seat for us. The coffee was surprisingly good - usually it's hard to find a brunch spot that also serves really good coffee. I ordered the french toast, and replaced my bacon with sausage. That was a great decision too...the sausage was YUM - huge portions packed with flavor. The french toast portion was HUGE - 4 thick eggy slabs of it. My bf ordered the frittata which was also HUGE and as he claimed, very satisfying. Nice serving staff, and cool view from the bathroom (okay I know that sound weird...but you can see the kitchen!) I'd heard about, I'd seen the pictures, I'd struggled to grasp what this could possibly be but here I was, finally ordering it. You know when you've built something up in your head and then that thing happens and you're like 'meh..that was only ok' and you knew secretly deep down you had built it up too much for it to be any good? That didn't happen here. This dish met every single expectation and then exceeded them, casually. I was left in a state of knowing recognition that what I was experiencing was as close to perfection as any sweet dish would get. The other dishes that people are eating will catch your gaze and you will vow to return as soon as possible. Also the bathrooms were awesome caus you get to watch the kitchen from them. Absolutely delicious and affordable! We were here on Valentine's Day (we grabbed the last reservation slot for brunch) and thoroughly enjoyed their Brunch of Champions! I'd never noticed this small spot right on Georges, and we never would have found it if Whitefriar Grill hadn't been booked! We were a bit squished, sitting in between two other tables, but the food soon took our mind off of it! I had the Raspberry Crush (a refreshing lemon and raspberry fizzy drink) and the veggie breakfast- a masterpiece of potato hashbrown, tomato, spinach, asparagus and two eggs. Apart from the huge mushrooms on top (somehow I misread the menu! Not a fan!) everything was delicious and the sizeable portion left me full for hours. My boyfriend ordered the Panettone french toast with blueberry compote and cream- no words can describe it. He had never tried regular Panettone before and was absolutely blown away by this amazing dish. I had a few bites and was similarly entranced (I'll probably be getting either that, or the coco pops french toast next time because WHAATTT???) Can I just add to the voices saying "Wow" about this place? I'm not the biggest fan of Italian food... I just find that it can sometimes be a bore and (depending on the venue) can sometimes be pre-made to fulfil orders, rather than being cooked fresh. Well, all of that goes out of the window with San Lorenzo's. This place is so cute. Quite narrow, but clean lines and minimalist design made me think of some great places I've been in other European Cities (Amsterdam for example). When we walked in, my first thought was "expensive". Do you know what? It is very reasonable! We were there on a weekday and there was three menu's to choose from. You can grab anything off the A La Carte (with mains starting from around €12 and going up €20+) or from one of the 2/3 course menus (with plenty of options) which are either €19.99 or €25.00. We were advised to have the Nutella Cheesecake which was on the more expensive set menu, but I really wanted the swordfish (which was on the cheaper set menu). Luckily, the friendly and attentive staff advised us that this wouldn't be a problem and we could mix and match. Wonderful! The wine list was good too! It's not cheap, but we had some fantastic red and white wine. The food was phenomenal. I had the seafood chowder, the swordfish and the cheesecake and everything was sublime. I had walked by so many times wanting to try this place, so finally decided to go for dinner last week. It was a Thursday night and jam-packed, so that's usually a good sign... unfortunately, it just didn't deliver for me. We shared the caprese salad, the tortellini, the antipasto platter, and the grilled cod (substituted because they ran out of the fish of the day). The presentation and plating were really appealing, but the cod was overcooked, which is such a difficult fatal flaw to excuse when they're charging €20 for a main. The tortellini was handmade, so thumbs up for effort, but the dough was really thick and stodgy - nothing close to the delicate tenderness you'd associate with homemade pasta. Have eaten in san Lorenzo's twice - once for dinner and once for brunch with the family and on both occasions was bowled over with the food on offer, the desserts in particular are knock-your-socks-off good! My partner and I agreed that start-to-finish our dinner in San Lorenzo's was the best we had last year (excluding a fine-dining experience in Belgium that has yet to be topped), the food is fresh and fun - Italian food with a modern twist with an emphasis on big, bold hard-hitting flavours. The Nutella cheesecake still leaves me salivating many months later, be warned though, it's definitely a sharer (take this from a chocolate dessert fiend)! Our brunch experience a few months on from our dinner was another memorable one, having eaten brunch in many of the other well-known brunch hotspots (Odessa, Whitefriar, Havana, 777) I have to say that Lorenzo's definitely deserves the weekend queues out the door. Their brunch menu is varied, sweet treats like French toast and pancakes jostle with brunch staples like Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros and Hashes, and each dish that was brought to table for our party of seven was executed skilfully- there wasn't a bum note to be found amongst them. My dish of crab cakes with asparagus, hollandaise and poached eggs was lip-smackingly good, each element was cooked to perfection and complimented the other components in the dish perfectly; apart from this it was a monster portion- you most certainly will not leave here hungry! My family are notorious sugar-hounds though and despite the fact that our mains had left us bursting at the seams, dessert was pretty much inevitable from the get-go. All I can say is, make sure you leave room, the desserts are crazy good, we had four to share between the seven of us and each of them were heavenly - the Nutella cheesecake and Ginger Sticky Toffee Pudding being the standouts for me. I'd heard a fair bit about San Lorenzo's, mostly about the brunch admittedly, but when I got the chance to try here for a work lunch, I jumped on it! On this occasion, I had absolutely no complaints to make about the experience! It was definitely a place I would recommend to a friend for lunch. A plate of calamari was more than enough to share between two, and was very tasty. The flavours used are really great, and particularly good were the slightly char-grilled squid legs that come in full formation. Normally I'm put off by food that looks like the creature it once was but for this meal, that was not enough to put me off the taste. It was perfect with a glass of very cold sauvignon blanc. (My lunch date's wine was less cold, which was probably the only negative we encountered.) For mains I was torn between steak and the pasta, but thankfully went for the latter as I was also saving space for dessert. It was so delicious, probably one of the better pasta dishes I've ever had. The pork sausage was so soft and almost melted away, which was delicious in my opinion. The pasta was very obviously freshly made in the kitchen, and the sauce was perfect with it. I had to leave some behind for fear of bursting, but I'm still thinking about it. For dessert I had intended on getting the infamous, wonderous, glorious Nutella cheesecake, but had to say no this time, there simply wasn't the space. Thankfully I managed to get a taste of it anyway, and it was definitely all I had hyped it up to be. I went for the ice-cream selection myself, which was vanilla (rich, creamy and flavoursome), chocolate (the PERFECT chocolate ice-cream) and salted caramel (I hate salted caramel, and this was still amazing). Delirah with myself so I was. Service was very friendly, and the place was very quiet at the time. Had been wanting to try this for a while. When I arrived there was a queue so delighted I had booked. It was tight but didn't feel that people were on top of each other. I had the Huevos Rancheros which was delicious, chili salsa wilted spinach with Polenta instead of a wrap which most places do, and I also had poached egg instead of a fried egg. The poached egg was more hard than I would have liked but that's just personal preference. I also had an expresso martini which was yum and had a bit of a kick to it. My friend had egg benedict and crab cake and she said they tasted as good as they looked. Around us the crab cakes seemed to be very popular. I was too stuffed for a dessert so got a cappuccino to finish. With so many places now that offer brunch I think this fares ok in comparison. The food was lovely and the place itself was funky. Although id maybe go back for dinner to try I wouldn't rush back but its simply as so much options now for a brunch. Called into San Lorenzos for brunch today after seeing it mentioned in yesterday's Times. I had the eggs benedict which were excellent. It was served on a toasted bagel with nice slices of thick ham, perfectly poached eggs and really nice hollandaise sauce. My ladyfriend had the ham hock potato cakes which also came with poached eggs, a creamy wholegrain mustard sauce and a side of fried potatoes and rocket. This place was amazing for a romantic date on Valentine's Day. Everything about it was perfect. We were welcomed by a menu with special cocktails they had for that particular day. We started with one of these each. I went for the rye whiskey cocktail and my girlfriend opted for the gin, crime de cassis alternative. Both were beautiful and loaded with booze! We followed these by a pork belly starter and a buffalo cheese starter. The pork belly was drizzled in the most delicious sauce and the lemon wedge added a zest to the dish that left me dying for more. The salad that accompanied the buffalo cheese was fantastic and tasty. For a main I got the Himalayan aged rib eye which was beautiful! Would seriously advise anyone to try it! The duck fat roasties and mushrooms literally melted in my mouth. My girlfriend got the hake which I tried and it was succulent and fresh. To finish off our meal we got the Nutella cheesecake which YA GOTTA GET. Probably one of the best desserts I've ever tried in my entire chocolate filled life. I was incredibly stuffed from my steak but managed to almost lick the crumbs from the plate. Be warned though they're massive so one to share would be perfect! Lastly the service and ambiance was superb. Our waitress was so attentive even though they were flat out and while the wine we ordered was sold out we were stuck between two others so she ran off and got two full wine glasses for us to try others. So, so helpful!! We were asked several times if we were happy and 'how was the food' but there was an exceptional medium where they weren't in our face about it that I loved! Brunch of Champions!!!! Usually never bother trying to go out for food on Valentines Day. Particularly for dinner, the quality usually drops and there's a rushed feeling so restaurants can get the tables back for their next sitting. Much prefer going out on the 13th or 15th! This year, however, we decided to go out for brunch. Venue of choice - San Lorenzo's (Modern Italian. New York style) on Georges St, Dublin 2. Been following them on twitter for a while and ever since they tweeted about Coco Pops French toast it's been on the list. Table booked for 12:15 through opentable.co.uk. San Lorenzo's called the evening before to confirm and advised they'd need the table back for 1:30. No issue with that. I assumed just over an hour would be more than sufficient for brunch :) Arrived just before the time and the table was ready. The tables are close together (like you wouldn't be able to walk between them close) but they're not uncomfortably close so you don't feel like you're eating communally and the tables are more spaced along the side. Having checked the menu online I already knew what I wanted to order but fiancé needed a couple of minutes to decide... He eventually settled on the crab cakes. I ordered a Mimosa and he chose a morello cherry Bellini. The Coco Pops French toast did not disappoint so was well worth the wait!! Coco Pops, Belgian chocolate sauce, peanut butter, salt caramel bananas, cream and bread. These are most certainly some of my favourite things... Fiancé's crab cakes came with house fries, eggs, asparagus and hollandaise sauce. I'm afraid my picture doesn't do it justice. He refused to take the picture of his because the couple at the table beside us kept eying up the food!! Second round of drinks I ordered a Rossini (prosecco with strawberry purée) When our plates were cleared away we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. It never arrived but I already knew I wanted to try the Nutella cheesecake but I was stuffed so I chose the Nutella cheesecake martini instead... What a great way to finish off!!! We hit SL for brunch this morning and what a treat. The staff were super sound and accommodating in giving us the window booth (perfect for people-watching!) re-setting the table for just two instead of four. The brunch menu was vast with tonnes of choice from bacon and French toast to all versions of egg and chargrilled chicken ciabatta options. Really encompassing the full range of Breakfast and Lunch - not just breakfast masquerading as Brunch! I had the baked ham and eggs, herself the fore mentioned chicken ciabattas with two cappuccinos. Might have been a one off but the coffee wasn't great on this occasion - just a bit too watery. The food however was unbelievably good - we mopped the plates with our side of bread. The price was seriously reasonable too around €30 all in for two hefty brunches, two coffees and two sides. They call it the #brunchofchampions and it certainly is! Valentine's brunch. After a call the night before telling us to vacate the table within 60 min I was somewhat apprehensive and had expected the worst. I was pleasantly surprised. The tables are yet again close but the food, drinks and service pulled it back. Not sure I like the whole industrial diner theme but that is just an opinion. The portion size are representative of any NYC diner. The food arrived promptly yet the eggs were perfect and the spears of asparagus were tender and delicious. Lovely homemade fries and thick crab cakes. The coco pop french toast had more calories than a tub of ice cream but were very tasty. We booked in advance to make sure we got in as it gets very busy. The music was good and there was a great chilled out vibe. The staff were excellent and we felt well looked after throughout our meal. The cocktails are delicious. I had the raspberry mojito which was lovely and sweet with a bit of a kick. I also got to try the Nutella cheesecake cocktail which was yum but definitely for someone with a major sweet tooth. The breakfasts were all very generous and nobody left hungry. Mine was lack luster and my daughters tasted like old seafood. Then we waited a long time for our check after we said we were finished drinking and wanted no dessert. We finally had to ask for it! We went back for brunch today. The server was nice. They were out of still water and ran to the shop to get one for us. The brunch was very delicious. I wish we had taken pics. This place is a little gem. Searched for best brunch in Dublin and this was the first that came up. Made a reservation and got there half hour early. I told them that my friend wouldn't be here until noon but they seated me anyway. Every one was super nice and friendly while I sat with a drink waiting for my friend even as the place got busier and more crowded. You haven't been? seriously? That's just bonkers, really, get your ass in there now!!! ...nope, this is not where I stop gushing like a schoolgirl with a new crush... it gets worse... Out of some 570 reviews I have thus far written on Yelp, I don't think I have ever started a review with such enthusiasm, and maybe that just means I am very hard to please, but I don't think so, I give out lots of 5 star ratings; this is one of the first times I have ever felt that 5/5 just doesn't cover it. so, to start.... The place is very simply yet appealingly decorated and immediately comfortable. the loos are noteworthy with the very odd view into the kitchen as you wash your hands! We went for the early bird (25Euro a head)... We all had the Gambas starter... it blew us away; apparently most elements of the menu change on a weekly basis but the Gambas are always there.. well, when you get a crowd pleaser why rock the boat!?. The prawns were spectacular, served as they were on a thick piece of toast with chili, garlic and olive oil, simple and absolutely beautiful. For this dish alone I will be back, really, I cannot say enough about it! Mains - 3 out of the 4 of us went for a chicken dish, again, a spectacular balance of flavors and textures, just about perfect. the forth among us opted for a fish stew sort of dish, again it was spot on. Dessert: 2 went for the nutella choc mousse, 1 for t tiramsu and the last the bread and butter pudding - all of them very good (the mousse probably the best of the lot) but not quite of the same quality as the starters and mains. The waiting staff were great and definitely added to the dining experience - very professional yet chatty, we were not left waiting yet were not crowded - a balance most restaurants get horribly wrong. We got the coco pops French toast, the lobster benedict and of corse there famous nutella cheese cake! The coco pops french toast is sticky sweet syrup over french toast with peanut butter and banana (drewl) I got a taste of it before it was very quickly eaten up by my girlfriend. Myself I got the Lobster Benedict and it was amazing !!! just seriously great, a bagel with tomato and lobster toping with poached eggs on top and a half tail of lobster on the side. Honestly, what can be said that hasn't been said? This place is a genuine triumph. I've eaten here more times than I have in any other restaurant in Dublin over the last few months. There are so many new places popping up that I'm always being led away from places I love to try them out. It's a great problem to have for me, not so great maybe for the many many restaurants jostling to go the long haul. This one though, will. This is for a number of reasons; 1. Food. Above all, the food is stunning. Yes, you've heard all about the brunch. But I'd recommend having a go of lunch or dinner to really see the breadth of what they do here. Things I like: the wild venison with spiced red cabbage and potato gratin, the scallops (stunning looking, baked in a shell with mashed potato and other yum stuff), and, the main reason that I keep going back, the deserts. Sweet mother. If you haven't had the Nutella cheesecake - you need to try it. Immediately. Also their homemade gelatos are the best I've had in Ireland. I tried the bread and butter pudding the other day which was decedent and filling and hearty and goddam delish. 2. Wine. Excellent selection of carefully chosen wines - I haven't been recommended one I disliked yet. 3. Staff. Professional and friendly 4. Surroundings. They've given this place a really contemporary facelift recently which has given it a great lift and a really bustle-y but comfy vibe. 5. Value. Have a look at their lunch offering for example. You'll get a full meal for 10 - 15 euro, and this is top notch quality stuff. Anyway I've babbled on long enough. It's deadly. Go and see if you can disagree. read more

Weekday brunch menu is fantastic! I had a great spicy All Day Bloody Mary , the set lunch Pan-fried gambas & Hake al forno. Both were phenomenal!! Our friend had the crab cakes which was a huge brunch special and he loved it!! My boyfriend had the Irish Black Angus 8oz sirloin and proclaimed it the best meal in all of Dublin!! We finished with the NY Nutella baked cheesecake which deservedly won the best dessert award in 2013!! Awesome food and friendly service!! Owner Temple was so nice!! Despite the hype, San Lorenzo was only "ok" for me during Sundays brunch visit. The place was packed but luckily we had a booking. After waiting in the q out the door and down the street we were seated. The tables are ridiculously close together and the ambiance loud. I found their soundtrack choices to be rather odd as well. My wife had the brunch tacos and I had the avocado toast. We both ordered a bloody Mary as well. Everything we had left us disappointed and feeling ripped off. The tacos were nothing better than you could get at any local taco joint. The chicken was bone dry and the dish lacked spice. My avocado toasted came with two poached eggs that were more hard boiled than poached. Our bloody Mary's had no seasoning or depth to them. Just tasting of hot sauce, booze and boxed tomato juice. Disappointing. I found it odd that for a place that bills itself as Italian that most of the brunch menu is Mexican inspired. Perhaps San Lorenzo's should stick to Italian food. read more

Yesssss! I was here for a work Christmas party and it was a great choice! Positives: - Perfect location on George's Street. - Really tasteful decor. - Good value Christmas menu which was under €50 for three delicious courses. - Really good cocktails. Negatives: - That I'm not eating there right now! The pork belly and frangelico pot were amazing but I'd like to go back and see what their full menu is like. The service was a little slow the night we were there but given the fact that it was the week before Christmas I can forgive them for that. read more

Good place for brunch. I ordered the champion breakfast and didn't regret it. Everything was well cooked and I actually enjoyed that. I haven't been carried away by the love surrounding San Lorenzo. Don't take it wrong: San Lorenzo is a nice place to have brunch. But it's as good as a lot of brunch places or Italian restaurants in Dublin. Nothing to justify that's it's a real pain to get a booking, in my opinion. I went once there for their "Brunch of the Champions". I had the tacos, which were honestly greatl Tasty, crispy, fresh and huge, enough to fill your belly for the whole day. They included a tasty avocado salsa, chicken and chorizo, and crispy lettuce, with a drizzle of sauce over it. The tacos were so filled that it was almost impossible to eat them - but this is without doubt the proof of great tacos. They are really on the top of the taco list in Dublin (nom nom). My SO had the pan fried pulled ham hock potatoe cake. Again, that was HUGE! It wasn't very sophisticated though. I won't complain, as the product were fresh, but it was pretty heavy: mostly potatoes and ham, and it lacked some vegetables and this nice twist that makes a dish different from what you'd have cooked at home. The lemonade were pretty good, but not homemade - too bad. I came back for a dinner, unhappy to be undecided and ready to choose my side - San LorenzLover, or San Lorennemies. I took the early bird meal, and tried the meatballs. They were not bad, but not good either. Meh. A little dry, the taste was good but common. Same for the pastas themselves, they were good but not specially tasty or melting in he mouth. Nothing special there, which is a shame for a restaurant that created such a craze. I put all my hopes in the Nutella cheesecake... It's indeed really B.I.G. This Nabudchadnezzar of chocoate, this mooound of cream, and gargantuan pile of vanilla ice cream, with caramel dripping from it... ...was honestly too much for me. I guess it's a matter of taste, but it was definitely too sweet, too decadent, too... Godzilla. This very sweet desert will without doubt clog your arteries, require a half marathon (at least) to burn, and might even be used by the NASA to feed astronauts during weeks. The Coco Pops french toast looked even best/worse: you can't tell that I didn't warn you. As a conclusion, it was pretty good but lacked a little sophistication for me. It was not that good a value for 27€ too. If you're a sweet tooth, run there, but don't forget to book in advance. read more
