This is our second trip in. We do enjoy the food here and the staff is friendly. We started with La nostra Caprese di bufala. The tomatoes were excellent and mozzarella was very fresh and tender with lots of flavor. For an entree we shared the Strozzapreti cacio e pepe. Pasta was good as usual. My biggest gripe is the rush to get you to pick what you want here. I'm not familiar with a lot of the names for their dishes so I have to read the description to figure out what some of it is. I highly recommend reviewing the menu prior to your visit if you haven't dined here before. When back in Dublin I will return. Just wish it wasn't always such a rushed to order dining experience. We decided to try this place out thanks the many good reviews and the distinct "walk ins welcome" sign. We popped in around 8 pm and asked how long the wait was for a no reservation. The host's answer was "could be 5 minutes, could be 30." He seemed annoyed and unhelpful, so we walked away. Thanks to his attitude, we found a better dinner at the Arlington hotel restaurant. I really enjoyed our meal at this Italian restaurant! Who would have thought that I would have one of the most authentic Italian meals in Ireland! The ingredients are fresh and the food is legit. I had the tagliatelle and it was delicious! The combination of the sauce, the beef and the freshly made, pasta all come together well. You can tell the pasta is made in-house. The lamb rack was also very tasty. Service was attentive and prices were reasonable. The only minor thing we had was that we could not all get onto the wifi. This place was great. We reserved a table after a bus tour, and we were seated right away. The service was fast and professional, and the food was really good and a nice break from traditional Irish meals (which we had most of our visit). We started with the antipasto misto, with olives, salame, pesto, Parma ham, and cheese, as well as bread and oil. The plate could have used a little more cheese to proportionally match the meats, but we all enjoyed it. I had a sausage pizza with rocket, which I really liked. Others had pizza, gnocchi (best they've ever had), and a risotto dish with truffle. The pizzas are single serve, with plenty to take away if you can't eat it all. They provided a pizza cutter which was a nice touch. If you're tired of pies, stews, coddles, mashes, and fish'n'chips, then give Bar Italia a try. Great atmosphere and a great meal. read more

After a long day of sightseeing in Dublin, my sister and I were famished. We didn't know what we should eat. We had passed by Bar Italia on a tour, and thought it would be a good place to go. We arrived and were immediately seated. My first impressions of the restaurant were good. The host was nice, the place looked busy, it seemed cozy. Since we had been touring Dublin we were starving and immediately put in an order to get our dinner started. To start our meal, we shared the Suppli and Cips di polenta e parmigiano. The Suppli are almost like risotto balls, but different. The Suppli was really good, but the Cips di polenta e parmigiano were a bit of a let down. I found them lacking flavor, and I wasn't a fan of it having a balsamic reduction. For my meal, I got the Panzerotti con funghi porcini, fonduta di parmigiano e olio tartufato. The pasta was good, but the fonduta cream was very heavy, and got a bit overwhelming the more I kept eating it. My sister got the Calzone vegetarian folded pizza. She really liked it, and I had a bite, and liked it more than my dish. I overall liked Bar Italia, but was a bit let down with some of the dishes. If I ever visit again, I'll be getting something different. read more

They really know their Italian cuisine and were helpful in explaining options and even accommodating special requests. I'm never terribly adventurous when I go to Bar Italia. I know what I like, and the salami/rocket pizza is always a satisfactory pie. So I live nearby and found out they do take-away orders. I am overjoyed to have a far better option than pizza delivery for when I'm sick/rushed/lazy. The other night I ordered a pizza for hubs, an antipasto to share, and a dinner salad for myself. It was ready within 20 minutes and the food was incredible. At €31 including free bread (I asked) it was an incredible deal and healthier than any take-away in the area. Pizza was Salsiccia e Patate (sausage + potato) without tomato sauce--unique and delicious with a perfect crust. The antipasto Delizia dell'orto was a mix of grilled veg, artichoke hearts, beans, olives, and cheeses to eat on toasted baguette slices. The Insalata del Pastore is what knocked my socks off--a goats cheese, pear, and walnut salad with honey dressing. I know fruit/cheese salads are everywhere but this one was exactly how I like it; loads of cheese and lettuce and really filling. I could eat that salad morning, noon, and night. Authentic, delicious and affordable are some of the words that come to mind when I think of Bar Italia on Ormond Quay. I went to this restaurant with two other friends a couple of weeks ago and we were not disappointed by the service, the atmosphere or the meal. In fact, we were delighted and I vow to go back again next time I fancy pizza, pasta or fish. We ordered two bottles of house wine for €15.50 each and the Antipasto misto (a plate of Italian meat, olives and ciabatta) to start. I then had a Pizza Bar Italia which has sausage, mozzarella and rocket on it. I was so full that I couldn't think of ordering dessert! This is one of my favorite restaurant in Dublin. I am a fan of Italian food so I almost tried all the Italian restaurant in Dublin and this one is a must. The ambiance and atmosphere is kinda slightly fancy which I really like. The waiters are extremely nice. I went there 4-5 times so I think I met all of the waiters and they're all so gentle all the time. The food is good and their pizzas are incredible! As an Italian lover, what I love the most is the typical sharing platters. And I must say that it's because of that I didn't put a 5 stars. I've been to some other places where you could really feel and taste like you were in Italy. Which is not the case here. I mean, everything was good. But I wasn't impressed. I meet my sister here for lunch a lot as she works nearby, and the food is great. Really authentic, Italian, served to you by Italians. Now obviously, since it's located in Dublin's Italian quarter, it has some competition from the other similar restaurants located just feet away. But I think they all have something good to offer. I love Bar Italia's antipasti selection from their lunch menu. I'm always really annoying and ask for a little bit of everything - some roast vegetables, some rocket, some parma ham, some crusty bread...I'm sure the staff LOVE me. I also love their soups too. Bar Italia was a really good Italian restaurant. A part of the Dunne & Crescenzi empire, this restaurant was quite delightful. Overall, I will say that it seems to be tailored to an Irish palate a little more than true Italian food, but what they make is still delicious. My husband had the tagliatelle with ragu, and he really enjoyed it. I am very picky about tomato sauces, and this one was a little more on the tinny tomato side than the fresh tomato side. However, the pasta was chewy, yet fresh. Very good experience. Let's get real. The pizza here is the star. I had the Francescana bianca pizza, which was, by far the best thing we had that night. According to the menu, this white pizza was made up of mozzarella from Campania, prosciutto di Emilia, and mushrooms. And I loved it. I added a little cracked black pepper and was in business. Our dining companion had the Diavola pizza withTomato, that same mozzarella from Campania, and spicy salami. The fresh tomato on this was an absolute delight. Again, a little black pepper, and we added some Parmesan here and ... yes. The wine was pretty great for the price. For a mere €27 we had a bottle of Canonico Negroamaro Salento Rosso which turned out to be a really nice wine. We had no trouble drinking it all. Lastly, we shared a Tiramisu, which was nice. It wasn't the best one I have ever had, but was definitely served with flair and a good ending to our evening. I will definitely be back here for some good food and atmospheric fun. read more

Don't walk here RUN HERE! I am a picky Italian from the east coast of the US and every thing we ordered was outstanding. Truly felt like I was eating in Italy. The pizza is a must, and both of our pasta dishes were incredible. Everyone at the table agreed. I wish I could package this restaurant up and take it back with me and have it weekly. Came here for dinner on St. Paddy's Day (the place was filled but not packed, so we were seated immediately. I'm guessing most people were still out drinking or passed out next to a toilet somewhere) Service was PAINFULLY slow. Each minute we waited for our food seemed like a lifetime since we were all starving. It was like pulling teeth just to try to get our water glasses refilled. I ordered the orecchiette pasta with Tuscan sausage. The sausage had some kind of weird, rubbery texture to it, but the flavor was alright. The pasta was unbelievably bland.
