How can this company stay in business? Why do hospitals use this company for medical supplies? I received a short ankle boot following a September 2020 ER visit at Bon Secours Mercy Health St. Mary's Hospital in Henrico, VA. The shoe was used for not more than 7 days when it fell apart. My insurance company was billed for $600. My "responsibility" was $40. I called multiple times since receiving the bill (15 days so far). Called my insurance company; they had the same experience (no one answers the phone; leave a message; no one returns the call). Every time, except one time, you are left on hold for several minutes. The prompt then states that all representatives are busy, please leave a message, someone will get back to you. No one returns the call. One time, I was not able to unable leave a message because the call was disconnected before I could leave a voicemail message. I tried to get both BonSecours Mercy Health St. Mary's and my insurance company to intervene on my behalf. Everyone else appears to be having a similar unfortunate experience. I was billed a second time with a $30 late fee. The link to pay provided in the invoice does not work. The situation will be referred to Virginia's Attorney General and reporting St. Mary's to the Virginia Department of Health. BonSecours Mercy Health took NO responsibility for using this company; deceptive billing practices, and defective medical equipment. Completely agree with other reviewers that this company is scamming providers and unsuspecting patients, shameful. read more

Had shoulder surgery in Aug of 2018 and six months after the fact I received a bill from DuraMedic for $265 for an arm sling. Contacted my private insurance who in turn contacted DuraMedic. That resulted in DuraMedic submitting a bill to my insurance not once but three times thus far and all being denied because of improper billing information. For a company that does this for a living one would think they would have the billing down pat. Bill is still pending and has now been turned over to a collection agency because they cannot get their act together. The sling can be purchased for under $100 from Amazon with free shipping. If you are scheduled for any surgery that will require a DME be sure it is not supplied by DuraMedic or you will be bent over. read more

Do not use this business. They take your money and basically lead you on for MONTHS when they owe you a refund. Angela was rude and put me on hold for 12 minutes before I hung up and called back. You can't get a straight answer from her. I have been waiting for a refund for almost a month and was just told it would be another 3-5 weeks. Really?? Wanna know how to make millions in this economy? Buy cheap canvas arm slings in a foreign country and sell to a captive, disoriented and disabled audience in the emergency room for a 6000% mark up. Normally, this sort of practice is called "price gouging", according to Wikipedia and a host of other sources. Other words that might qualify are "usury", "racket" and "ambulence chasing", you be the judge... Dura Medic llc is apparently making anywhere from "$2.5 to 5 million" a year according to Manta.com while only employing a skeleton crew of 5-9 employees, including the owner David Bryant. Their "success" comes from providing medical supplies in emergency room settings and billing separately from the hospital 30 days after you've been released from the ER. They don't put price tags on their goods so accident victims who are in a super vulnerable state and often disoriented have NO idea they're going to get "raped" by the bill later. At that point, accident victims have no choice but to pay the bill, which is in the ballpark of 700% more than the actual retail price for the item. You tell me: is this an ethical practice? Or is this akin to selling earthquake victims a gallon of water for $50. Accident victims in the ER are not counseled about having options to the sling (or other item) the nurse literally puts on them without asking, there is no price tag and it's being supplied under the auspices of benevolence and "care". Yeah, David Bryant seems like a genius. Look how much money his company makes off of unsuspecting accident victims in a captive environment. Unfortunately for him, with the net such an integral part of our lives, this price gouging racket is easily exposed by a quick Google search for "arm sling." My complaint call to Dura Medic was met with the answer "this is what Medicare allows." Great. Not only are YOU getting "raped" with the price gouging that Dura Medic engages in, so is our bankrupt government by paying $60 for a $7 canvas sling. This is one of the most unethical companies I have worked for. I found out I had cervical cancer a few weeks after being hired and was told by the manager, Rae Doppman, not to worry that they will work with me. Then when I told her I have the ok from mr dr to go back to work in a couple of weeks she called and told me they absorbed my position and no longer had a job. Then when I went to apply for unemployment she told them I was not capable of doing the job I was hired for. Real classy! And yes they do mark their products up a lot! Yep. Gotta agree with everyone else. If you're offered a Duramedic product when you go in for a Dr or ER visit - DECLINE it and ask for an alternative. You will get a bill in the mail after your visit so you can pay what your insurance doesn't cover. You won't be told that there's an extra charge for their products when they're given to you either. Like me, you'll blindly accept it - don't pay their bill immediately, expect a phone call from them at 8am a week or so later - they want to verify your address to make sure you got their bill. Crooks - that's the only word I can use to describe them. Sub-par - that's how I'd describe their products. I received a post-op shoe that fell apart on the ride home. That's right, after wearing it for 45 minutes it broke at the seams. I walked...maybe...500 feet in it. Couldn't rate less than 1 star - that sucks. read more

Last July 2012 I fell & broke my arm ( humerus ) and went to the ER. I didn't know if I was in for surgery or what to expect. They ended up putting my broken in 3 places humerus in a canvas sling that fell apart 3 days later & i had to go back to ER to have another one made. Now being recently on Medicare ( this is are new Obamacare ) this is the new shoddy care you're going to get. My arm is now 7 months later & I still have to be careful even though I've been through psychical therapy + ( which my cost was $ 600.00 a month and I did receive a bill from Dura Medics for $ 40.00. They said Medicare wouldn't pay for it. Well, I called my Blue Cross ( who bought out Medicare & they said I shouldn't have paid a dime. It pays to follow up and not take other people's word . This company is a scam. I went in for surgery and they gave me an overpriced product and did not confirm my insurance would cover it. I just had major back surgery and they used the surgery to push products I did even need and used my recovery as a way to sell crappy overpriced products. STAY AWAY and please tell anyone you know going into surgery to avoid any products coming from this company. I wish I could do more to warn unsuspecting people, but they are cunning and they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR CONDITION. I was overcharged for a flimsy piece of fabric. Had I known that I would be gouged by Dura Medic, I would have told the emergency room doctor "never mind" to the sling and used one I already had at home. My insurance, after I appealed, finally approved payment but Dura Medic is still billing me and threatening me with collections. I read some of the reviews and wished I had been charged only a nominal fee of of $40.00 for one of Duramedics "medical supplies" I had back surgery at Stanford University November 15th 2016 . The following day someone came in my room that I assumed worked for the hospital said she had to fit me for a back brace. I was heavily medicated and in a lot of pain. I was never told that the brace would not be fully covered by my insurance or that my out of pocket would be $1150.00 and that was after my insurance paid $1640.00 for a nylon and velcro brace that was too big. It would fall off me. I replaced it with a brace from Amazon for $20.00. Talk about taking advantage of someone when they are at their most vulnerable. Oh and I found the exact back brace on another medical supply co for $209.00 which I think is still too much, but a whole lot better than $2790.00 I called Dura Medic because I thought there had to be a mistake.....NOPE!!!! I agree with Danielle 100%. I recently returned from the hospital after breaking my upper arm. Imagine my surprise to receive a bill for $99.95 for a sling which kept slipping and not performing its function - to hold the hand higher than the heart to minimize swelling. At home, I discarded it and used a soft bathrobe belt around my neck and arm for support. This outrageous information will be related to my friends and neighbors. Janet K. read more
