This was a treat! Caught the river on a good day! We had 23 in our group from 11 years to 56 years young. And all ranges of size! They were well equipped and got us all fitted. All guides were great but I will speak of Veronica. She was very informative and could carry a conversation to keep everyone on our raft engaged and alert. We felt safe a prepared for any sideways situation. I would definitely come back and bring the family. The pics at the end for our group were very reasonable. I'm originally from the area but moved away years ago. My son and I took my daughter in law on a Jeep tour so she could experience the mountains for the first time. Tyler was our guide and he took us on the waterfall tour. It was absolutely fabulous!! We took my grandson and Tyler made sure he felt included the whole time as well. We learned a lot about the area and saw some of the most beautiful scenery. It was worth every penny and ended up being the highlight of the entire weeklong holiday. The tour guide was AMAZING! The company was laid back and easy to work with. The water was so low our guide had to push us almost as much as we rafted. I do not recommend booking a whitewater rafting trip without checking the Animas River flow rates. We had 200 cu ft and it was NOT worth the cost. I wish I'd of waited till extra summer when the water is flowing. The guides did make it enjoyable with time playing in the water, however we wanted to experience whitewater rafting. So overall we were let down. But we did get a great photo. read more

Finding an excursion that met our parties' need was unique. Traveling with 4 kids (ages 6 to 12) and five adults (including grandma aged 61) made this adventure the best of all worlds. We booked the morning adventure and directions to site, parking, and expectations were clear. Each member of our party was inviduidually fitted for a life vest, especially our littlest. The majority of the rafting trip was mellow and mostly floating, but the few white water parts were fun. This was okay with our group because of the littles with us. The highlight of our trip was the final swimming hole and opportunity to jump off a rock. The crew was so helpful in getting all the kids safely across and able to jump into the river. It really MADE the trip. Bring a hat, water shoes, board shorts, and leave a towel in the bus if you decide to take a leap. We one cell phone with our guide in his wet pack. Our tour guide was okay, we would have enjoyed more "regional knowledge sharing" about the town/train during the floating parts to add to the trip, but it was still okay. Overall a great little company to book with. Our group enjoyed the adventure. read more

Great time. For COVID-19, they reduced the total number of people in one raft and separated groups between left and right side of the raft. This was the spouses first time for white water rafting and it fit the bill perfectly. The guide was very personal and had a few stories to entertain during slow times. We were invited to swim beside the boat about half way along. Float time was about 1.5 hours. You could help unload and load the rafts. If you have ever white water rafted, this may not be your cup of tea as most of this was gentle and very pleasant. There was one spot right at the end that was a little more intense but not overly so. This is a great float for beginners and youth. Would definitely return. And would try a longer float next time with a little more action. read more

I will admit to being VERY HESITANT about the rafting portion of our combo excursion. The Animas was flowing full of snow melt (from record snow fall) and we had never been rafting before. But we did it! Yes, it was cold. Yes, it was wet. Yes, it was complete adrenaline rushing, soaking, freezing FUN!! Scott was our guide and always made sure to keep us informed and feeling safe. Even the bus driver lady (so sorry I can't remember her name) was fun and took some amazing pics. Then Si drove us up to Silverton to meet the train. I'd done the train a couple of times when I was young, but my family never had (husband and 2 teens) and we all learned so much from Si about the landscape, river, and weather events. Made us appreciate the drive way more than we anticipated we would have. Very professional company. Attentive, patient, easy to work with, and made sure to have all of our needs covered. read more

If you go to Durango, you MUST raft down the Animas river. This Tour group was professional, on-time, FUN, safe, and had incredible guides (thank you, Jonathan!). I had never been rafting so was a little nervous, but it is the right amount of easy river rafting and more exciting white caps. After reading all of the 5 star reviews we were very excited to book our private jeep tour. While the tour was okay it certainly didn't live up to the hype of all the reviews. The tour was more like a ride with a two noteworthy stops: a waterfall on their private land and a vista view over looking the canyon. An added bonus was the wild flowers. I didn't count this as a major factor since they are only in bloom for a short time. The down side was how much of this ride was a trip up and down a very rugged road to see so few things. Our guide was a very nice and friendly gentleman but, only offered basic information about the area and the sites. We was very soft spoken and it was hard to hear him unless you were the passenger in the front seat. During our trip we also went on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Ride. We chose the bus ride home and for the full hour and a half back to town our driver spoke about the history of Durango, the train, mining, ranching, the changes to the area over the years, some famous residents, animals of the region, wildflowers and so much more. Clearly so there's a lot to share about the Durango area and our guide could have shared so much more during the long trip up hill and back. Now here's what really bothered me. Upon booking we were prompted online to tip the customary 18-22%. We passed on this option as we usually take into consideration the quality of the experience. Because of our disappointment in the basic tour (compared to other jeep tours we have taken) we did not leave a gratuity. Within minutes of our tour ending each couple received an email asking for a 5 star rating on Google as well as an email telling us we could still tip our guide with a credit card link to do so. Both of these tactics come across as unprofessional. read more

Booked a rafting trip & the day before our reservation the forecast called for thunderstorms. We asked if they would refund our trip as we did not want to drive 2hrs to raft in a thunderstorm with our young son and they said they would not. Our fault for not reading their policy stating that they raft in storms, sleet, and other inclement conditions. I asked to speak to management to explain our situation but never received a call back. I actually did a 4-Hr Jeep Tour and 4-Hr Rafting package, and loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute. We did happen to go at the precise time of a small monsoon, complete with hail, BUT it was still amazing. We hat to cut our trip a little short, but if it weren't for the kids in the other boat, I'd have gone ahead. It was THAT fun. Our guide, Theo, was absolutely fantastic - super funny and laid back, but I never felt like we weren't safe in his hands. We had perfect weather for our morning jeep ride, and our guide Kelly was once again, fantastic. He took us up the mountain for some absolutely beautiful Colorado scenery. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very funny. It could have been a really boring ride, but it definitely was not! He even stopped for an emergency potty break in the woods! I'm so glad we booked this package, and I'm especially glad we did so with this company. There are a lot of companies who offer similar packages, but we made the perfect choice. We had a really good experience with Durango Rivertrippers. In particular, our guide Brock was GREAT - super friendly, great with the kids, and easy to make conversation with. Request Brock for your trip! :) As another reviewer recently commented, we also ran into a potential bad weather situation (thunderstorms forecasted at 80% likely during our trip) - I called Dave the morning of the trip and asked about a reschedule. It just wasn't feasible with their guide scheduling, which I do understand and their policy is clear. And Dave was very nice about it even though I'm sure I was annoying him :) Just know that you could end up rafting in less than desirable conditions as they really do run in any weather. We got lucky - it didn't end up storming - just a little drizzle which made things colder than we would have liked. If you don't have the proper gear for that, you'll have to rent it at an additional cost. We had our own rain jackets and that worked fine. The only negative comment I'll leave - and this is not a reflection on Durango Rivertrippers - is that we have rafted all over the southwest / Rockies and the Lower Animas is the least scenic trip we've been on. It mostly goes through town - so you're looking at buildings, seeing traffic flying by on 160, etc. That said - the water levels in mid-July were good enough for some "bounce" during the calmer water sections and the whitewater course itself was fun, so the scenery didn't matter much in the end. But if you've rafted Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, etc - don't expect the solitude and scenery of other locations. read more

Great experience!! Booked a combo trip of rafting and the train ride for a Saturday about 3 days prior, the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately there was a fire in durango and the train trip was cancelled, I was called and email immediately and offered the 4x4 Jeep tour instead. Went jeeping at 8am and it was awesome, they removed the roof and shared a lot of history about the trail. Loren and Hannah we awesome and we're patient with us when there was some altitude sickness. Then at 230pm we went rafting, John was our tour guide. The rafting was pretty calm but it was my first time so that was a good thing. The instructions were very clear and we were prepared for the drop when it came, we purchased the photos for 35$ and I love them. If you're looking for adventure with a professional, good crew book with these guys! read more

Great time! I walked up and took a seat on one of the 2hr trips. The people in the booth were friendly and answered all questions. Only thing they missed for me was to offer a poncho; I found out about this when I checked in from another customer. Otherwise, the guides were very informative and professional during the intro section of the trip. The river was very high this day, and they made sure to ascertain everyone's comfort level, especially as it pertained to going through the rapids. Once one the river, our guide, Bethany, was top notch. She guided us expertly and did a great job making us feel at ease. No doubt about it, you are going to get wet, and most people were soaked and chilly at the end. That being said, a highly entertaining and reasonably priced way to have fun on the Animas River. If you're a first timer, I would highly recommend the 2 hr trip. There is some work to be done from the passenger end, as in paddling. Plus, you'd hate to be wet, cold, and tired, only to realize you've got 2 more hours to go - just a thought from my perspective read more

Great day on the river. Took the 4 hour rafting from 9-1. Brian Burger was our guide and super personable and knowledgeable about the river. The river is super high so rapids were awesome. Felt safe the entire time. Water was 45 degrees so definitely recommend the water jacket or bring your own. I'd say the water boots they have would be great too. The coldest part of my body was my toes!!! The jacket worked great on my upper body. Wear a hat too if you can. They have lockers if you need to leave behind your stuff like a backpack, Wallet, keys etc. if you pay for the extra package you get pictures and the water jacket, shoes etc.... it's worth it. If you have a water proof bag you can bring it on the raft if you want. They stop mid way for water and a snack and a bathroom break. Great fun!!! Very worth it! read more

Wow!!! We had the best time on our river raft trip. Our guide, Cobie, was fantastic. I went with my two daughters, aged 19 and 21. We were all novices and a little nervous during the safety speech, but of course nothing happened. No one was thrown from the raft, and we didn't flip! We loved the rapids and the calmer waters. Cobie's love of the river and the area was infectious. We were so lucky to have the raft to ourselves, and to have a gorgeous day. We were there on May 24 (my daughter's birthday!) and the water was on the lower side (according to Cobie), and it was 75°, sunny and breezy. Perfect. At one point, my daughter's hat blew off, and Cobie made it her mission to get it back - and we did! It was so much fun. We thought we slathered on enough sun screen, but ended up with burns on our legs anyway - be sure to sunscreen up!! Also, we wore our Tevas, waterproof pants/shorts and t-shirts. We all got soaked during the ride (happily), and wished we'd had a second set of clothes (at least pants/underwear) waiting for us at the end. The folks at the booth who helped us sign up (Teal) were equally amazing. So friendly and easy to talk with, helping us through the decision making process and easing our nerves. I cannot recommend this company or the river raft trip enough. Cobie and Teal helped make our trip even more amazing - which is saying a lot given the river, mountains and weather. read more

The Durango Rivertrippers is probably the most professional tour establishments in Durango. If you walk around Main St. you will see a few kiosk selling rafting tours and see even more in the Durango tourism brochures. When we called to inquire about the times, availability and prices they had the best prices and answered all our questions over the phone. They do give a 10% discount for parties over 10+ and if you are a YELPLER- check in and get a free H2o. The water was extremely high at the time we were in Durango.....everyone tells us the highest they have seen it in over 5 yrs. So we waited a week when it came down a little. I will tell you we had our 12 year with us and thank goodness they didn't take us to the upper Animas (through downtown) the rapids there were challenging and at the time several rafts tip over. So, we did the 2 hour on the lower Animas and it was absolutely beautiful and so much fun!! Our guide Christian was absolutely awesome, it was Christian and our family of 3. We had a group of six people and decided to do the 2 hour rafting trip. I had my 10 and 12 year old sons with us, and let me say, we had the most amazing experience! From beginning to end, the staff was super pumped and so nice. They put us at ease and we were able to really enjoy our time. Our guide, Jesse, was very knowledgable and funny!
