Enjoyed a lovely lunch with my younger cousin recently and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. The dining area was warmer than usual, I'm sure the buffet line helps out with that. No complaints bc the scents were keeping me comfy and happy! The staff was friendly and accommodating. It was my first go with an Indian lunch buffet. I tend to order a staple curry or saag and intensify the heat at my discretion. As I was being seated I walked past fresh vegetable samosas being bright out and I had to taste. They were delicious and actually had more of a spice kick than I expected being from the buffet!! All dishes were yummy, a few were a bit too salty for me. My lunch date had a vegan dish made and was rolling in the flavor. Dusmesh serves the best Indian food in Cincinnati. I had heard many friends declare this within the last year, but I hadn't tried it until a job placement landed me within walking distance. Now, I walk there at least once a week for the lunch buffet, and it never disappoints. Okay, maybe I was disappointed one time, but they were ridiculously crowded and were having trouble keeping up with the demand. That was once in the last 10 visits, and I can't dock them points for being so popular; they've earned their loyal following. My favorite dish is probably the broccoli and chicken (something about the sweet tanginess of the sauce and a nice level of heat). I pretty much love everything else that I've tried, too. I'm now such a repeat customer that I have the layout of the buffet memorized. I am really glad that I started going here before the weather turned cold, because now that it has, the buffet fogs up my glasses and I have to rest them on my head as I somewhat blindly glop their delicious food onto my plate. We were happy customers of Dushmesh for 2 years and we went there at least twice a month for lunch buffet $7.99 per person. For the 1st time we got 1 take away buffet today for a sick neighbor and we didn't eat there because we had food at home. What they have advertised was $4.99 per LB for take away buffet. Our neighbor is vegetarian so no meat in the takeaway box and the it was very light around 1 lb. The man who was at the cashier's counter didn't weigh the box and said I have to pay $10.87 for it. When I asked if he is going to weigh he was like "no". Asked why they have advertised $4.99 per lb if they don't weigh. Then he hold the box in the hand and entered some numbers in to the computer, seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Charged me $8.00 for the takeaway box. Still no bill was provided and I'm pretty sure he didn't enter it to the system. Once I came out one worker from Dushmesh followed me to the car and he acted like he was looking at the road but I could see he was looking at which car i got into. Wow. Came home and weigh the box it was 1lb 1oz and we were still overcharged. Their food may be good but we will never foot step in there because even its a little amount they are scamming their customers. They lost a permanent business forever. read more

I am sorry to report that I have eaten my last meal at Dusmesh, despite giving them many chances. Do they still have the best saag paneer in Cincinnati? Yes. But their kitchen has made too many mistakes for me to trust them again. While a relatively recent development, I am a fairly strict pescatarian. I won't eat a slice of pepperoni pizza with the meat taken off-I really do not want any meat near what I eat, or in my house. A few weeks ago, we clearly placed our order for take out, including an order for the VEGETARIAN appetizer platter. Needless to say, I was bothered when some chicken fingers ended up in the mix (my husband, a meat eater, taste-tested and confirmed my suspicision that it smelled like meat). I called the restaurant, who were apologetic, which I appreciate, and offered to give us a free replacement the next time we ordered. Well, that was last Friday-I called, clearly ordered the VEGETARIAN appetizer, only to be devastated to see the same chicken the second time around. On the receipt, the person who took the order clearly wrote "veggie appetizer." When I called, the person who took the order was apologetic again, and clearly was not at fault, as they took down all the information (I guess maybe specifically checking for and identifying the chicken before we picked it up would have been good, though.) So, there is a problem in communication between the kitchen. I no longer feel assured that anything I order that should be vegetarian is, and will not return. I am more disappointed than anything else, because I love a lot of their food so much. read more

I went here for a Friday lunch buffet with my girlfriend on the basis of really positive reviews here on yelp. Sadly the food didn't really live up to billing. To be honest the food is very very "watered down" or in general modified to suit the American palette and it isn't really "authentic Indian food" anymore, and that was kind of my main gripe. It was non-spicy Indian food lacking in any of the subtlety of flavor that I would expect from a place so highly rated. Looking at their clientele (who to Dushmesh's credit all looked like regulars on the basis of their interactions with the restaurant staff) I noticed that we were the only people of Indian-origin there, that probably says a lot :) Specifics : + Egg "Bhurji" was nice + Their Pakoras were really good, especially the spinach ones which went really well with the chutneys that were quite were tasty themselves! + The Naan when fresh was quite nice + Aloo-Gobi was good - I found everything else pretty poor - The broccoli chicken : seriously under cooked chicken and terrible terrible amounts of food-color. I would recommend avoiding that like the plague! - Chicken dishes were very so so. Tandoor chicken was poor and once again too much artificial food color! - Desserts : seriously terrible. Kheer is supposed to be rice AND milk. Not just some overly sweetened milk :( . Gulab-Jamun : the lesser said the better. I felt like they would be better served just putting out some decent ice-cream and fruits instead! Bottom Line : I would NOT recommend Dushmesh to someone seeking authentic Indian fare, and would point them in the direction of Ambar a little further up Ludlow. On the other hand I can see how someone who doesn't enjoy more authentic Indian food, looking for "Americanized Indian food" would enjoy this place. read more

I don't frequent a ton of places, but this is one of my favorites. With the BILLIONS of options for sit-in Indian food, why come here? I'll tell you why. 1. LUNCH BUFFET! For about $10, you get all the essentials, which for me are basmati rice, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chicken tandoori, and naan. 2. BYOB! What other Indian place around Clifton does this? None that I'm aware of. And nothing makes me feel classier than wine with a meal. Wine that I don't have to pay a ton for. Wine that I have already partially enjoyed in the comfort of my own home. Wine that I carry in my purse and casually place onto the table at Dusmesh. Did I say classy? Maybe that was the wrong word. 3. AMBIANCE! Compare this place to the inside of Ambar or Amol. Or, unfairly compare it to Krishna, etc. The decor gives it a certain charm and puts it a step above the rest. 4. SERVICE! The wait staff definitely seems friendlier here than the other Indian restaurants I've been to. 5. PARKING! They have their own parking lot, and it's big enough to accommodate all of their diners on most nights. read more

A decision to visit Dusmesh was very spontaneous. I looked it up and realized it's on Ludlow but what I didn't realize is that this place is not located in the busy part of Ludlow but a little down the hill and it's has it's own parking. The decor is simple and clean with plenty of seating. And then I found out they have a lunch buffet. This was a heaven for me because even though I love Indian food I don't really experiment much. This was my opportunity to let my taste buds wonder. I enjoyed a hefty amount of naan followed by perfectly cooked rice and then I covered it with anything that was sitting out. I wasn't even reading the signs. What I loved the most was chicken curry but I was disappointed with their selection of desserts or lack there off. That's pretty much why I am giving them 4 stars. Oh did I mention the lunch buffet is eight dollars and sixty cents? Yeah, beat that. read more

This place used to rival if not surpass Ambar and the other Indian restaurants up the hill. That is sadly not the case anymore. The food has gone (pun intended) down the hill. Especially the buffet, which I have now sworn off. Half the items are left empty or with nasty scraps left with hours left til the end of lunch. I've always been pretty stand-offish when it comes to Indian food. Co-workers would have to force me to get it and the dishes I've tried in the past (while OK) were not what I consider "great" food. Today Dusmesh has turned me into a full blown foaming at the mouth Indian food addict. Chicken Vindaloo level 4 spiciness was cooked to perfection. It was so good it put me in this euphoric mood the rest of the day... or maybe it was the endorphins released from the spiciness... EITHER WAY this place is awesome. I want to get in the DeLorean and go back to 2009 so I can prevent myself from being so ignorant of good Indian food and depriving myself of all those excellent lunches I could have been eating here. To top it off it's served and cooked by some of the most hospitable staff I've ever encountered. I haven't even tried the 8$ all you can eat buffet yet which according to others is the "best" thing about Dusmesh. So I can't wait for that... Not terrible, but I have definitely had better Indian food. Food with more flavor. I was really confused by the outstanding ratings of this place until I talked to my friend and fellow native Cbuser Caroline C. You see apparently people from Cincy are often described as having "Cincy taste" or basically no tolerance for spice. I guess they even consider their cinnamon laden skyline chili as spicy?? Weird... Dusmesh as well as 5 or 6 other Indian restaurants in the Cincinnati area all owned by the same family, seem to cater to this Cincy taste. The food is VERY bland for Indian, which is a huge letdown because Indian food is often sought after for it's incredible depth of flavor and spice. I came here for their weekday lunch buffet and was very underwhelmed by the watery tasteless saag paneer and dry bland chicken tikka masala. Thank goodness we came here for the buffet so that there were more options to choose from. If you actually like good Indian, do yourself a flavor (har har) and go to Shaan in Hyde Park. read more

Oh...Dusmesh!!!! How far you've fallen!!! Dusmesh was my first Cincinnati addiction. So close to our first apartment. Such delicious lunch buffet. Much...everything ever. We ate there weekly. Most Indian buffets kill all the spice. Dusmesh had that perfect level of milder food with fuller flavor. And for dinner, it was just amazing. As for service, it was run by a super friendly family. We once went 2 months without going after not having gone all that frequently, and our server immediately said, "It's been so long!!!" Anyways, it's been longer than that since our last visit. Because real world jobs keep us from lunch buffet meet-ups. We'd heard that it had changed hands but the parking lot still seemed full and we thought that it couldn't really be that bad. But honestly? It is. The lunch buffet was nothing short of terrible. At first sight, it looked the same. But nothing tasted the same. And nothing tasted good, except maybe the samosas. The samosas look prepackaged, as they did under the former ownership. Good, but not amazing. The naan? Bad...buffet naan is never the best, but this was noticeably worse than previous times. Saag? I had one bite and couldn't eat a second. I don't always like Saag but I LOVED Dusmesh's version. Dahl? It just didn't have any taste at all. Chicken Tikka? My fall back dish tasted off in a very bad way. Bland, and the actual chicken tasted not fresh. I realize that Indian food wreaks havok on many a digestive track, but this was the one time that I truly feared for my own. Not because it was too spicy, but because everything tasted bland and somewhat off. Even my mango lassi tasted, somehow, old. And my husband couldn't even finish his dessert (those balls in rose water). I find Indian desserts to be WAY too sweet for my taste, but I never expected him to cringe after one bite as he finishes nearly anything you give him! There's too much Indian in Clifton to ever go back to this place again. It's one of the few times that I've honestly questioned whether I should KEEP eating the food for fear of whether it's edible!!! (For this review, I'm going to assume you know nothing about Indian food. If it seems patronizing to a veteran of the genre, I apologize. Okay, not really, you can deal with it, buddy.) An Indian restaurant with all the classics, Dusmesh is accessible to everyone who has even a tangential knowledge of basic Midwestern Indian food. Their portions are more accurately sized to feed one individual in one sitting than other Indian joints, so you may not be taking home leftovers (if you eat as much as I do). I particularly like that because it's my experience that Indian food doesn't reheat perfectly and I'd rather not waste food. They bring out endless rice for no extra charge, too, so don't worry about being stingy with your portions. Make sure you go in hungry because there's a lot to eat for your dollar. As with most places I visit, I almost always get whatever eggplant dish the place has (I have a mild obsession with it), so the last time I went I got the mushroom bartha (mushrooms, eggplant, curry sauce). It was delicious. I also got the vegetable pakora (fried balls of vegetables) and those were somehow even better than the bartha. Honestly, the food is top notch here. It may be the best I've had in the city. You can also bring your own beverage, alcohol or otherwise, which separates it from other eating establishments in the region. I saw a guy bring a six pack and a cake the last time I went (sounds like a good time to me, too), so I guess they're not picky about outside food as well. Nothing like a little chicken tikka masala with a nice piece of double chocolate cake, apparently. The service is just okay, though. We spent a long time waiting to be served and only toward the end did our waters receive the attention they needed. The staff are friendly enough but they just didn't seem to be too attentive overall. The place was not busy, so I'm not sure what was going on. If you want great Indian food, I highly recommend this place. It's delicious, fairly priced, and the service is fine. Bring your own beer and wine and order a heaping dish of curry and some other thing on which to put it. Also, get the nan. I can't believe you were going to forget the nan. I'm a really big Ambar fan, but lately I tend to choose Dusmesh for a couple of reasons. One, it's BYOB, so we can get out of there with a much smaller bill. Two, truthfully, everything on their menu is better than Ambar's except the nav rattan korma and their salted lasses. Now, if I had a last meal, it would probably be an Ambar nav rattan korma and salted lasses, so sometimes a girl just needs to go there. On the other hand, if I'm craving Dusmesh's kashmiri nan (not even on the menu at Ambar), and I almost always am, there's nothing to satisfy my craving but Dusmesh. Let's put it this way. The wonderful chefs who were at Maya India in Price Hill, and whom the foodies in town follow from restaurant to restaurant, have apparently moved to Dusmesh, and the quality of everything form papardum to entrées and desserts has leapt up the charts. I consider the two as tied for the best Indian ;-) From my understanding, the food is more authentic at Dusmesh as compared to Ambar. Apparently Ambar is heavy on the cream. For Indian food, this is by far my favorite in Cincinnati -AND it's BYOB!! I've never been for the buffet but have been for dinner & take-out on several occassions and have tried a variety of dishes. The garlic naan is the best around, and the chicken tikka masala is phenomenal. Warning - the Dusmesh spice level is higher than most Indian places, so if you're used to a 5/6 at other places, go for the 4. Also - they can make anything vegan or vegetarian, we even tried the milk-free (cocunut milk!) Saag, and it was delicious. There is a saying (and if there isn't there should be) that if you throw a stone in Clifton, your bound to hit an Indian Restaurant. So I thought I had been to them all. Had it all. And found my favorite, Amol. But then some friends from Boston took me to Dusmesh and well let says it just stole the silver medal. Now I usually eat Indian for dinner. So I am new to the whole lunch buffet thing. As a large man, I try to stay away from buffets. My will power is not that strong and I tend to eat my self to the point that I want to kill myself. But that was not the case with Dusmesh. I had one plate and felt full. The food was delicious. I ate pretty much all of the chicken options, since the lamb option came with bones. And I don't do well with bones once the fork goes a twirling like a hurricane. The rice was full of flavor. And though I don't usually eat carrots (texture thing), I didn't even notice them in the rice. The nan was delicious. The pakora (my favorite appetizer) was full of vegetables instead of dough. I am looking at you Amol. It is so good. I really am having a hard time going more in depth without repeating myself. So just go. It is very hard to get bad Indian here in Cincinnati. And Dusmesh is not even close to being bad. But I will have to try it for dinner. Because until then it will be my lunch place. Hopefully it will be my dinner place soon. read more

YES. Another solid Indian spot in Cincinnati. I've never lived in a city with so much good Indian. Anyways, I came here for the lunch buffet, and it was quite expansive. I feel a little bad comparing the buffet to ordering dishes, but the quality of food is just a little lower than Krishna or Ambar. Had the lunch buffet here a couple of times and I think a solid A-OK is the most appropriate rating for this place. To be fair, this rating is specifically for the lunch buffet (as ordering from a menu usually yields a better food experience). Hits: --Vegetable pakora (tasty deep-fried Indian vegetables) --Naan --Saag Paneer (spinach & cream sauce with cheese cubes) --Curry beef meatballs (only time I've seen beef in an Indian place and they are surprisingly tender and yummy) Misses: --Samosas (bland and mushy) --some of the sauces are very watery (e.g. Chicken Tikka Masala) --overall lacking in spice and flavor (I know buffets tend to be dumbed down on spice level, but Indian food should never be bland!) Service isn't a big concern with a buffet, but the servers were pretty on top of clearing dirty dishes and refilling water so all good there. Free lot parking is also a plus. We hit this place up about once a month. It is definitely our go-to Indian restaurant. I generally feel like almost all local Indian food is about the same and have found only a couple places that seem to have a style all their own. This is not one of those places. So why do I go here? 1. BYOB--- A bottle of wine goes down fine with spicy Indian food and I love saving money! 2. Never very crowded-- Some of the Ludlow places can be so crowded, you feel like a sardine! 3. Service--- After coming in a couple of times, they will begin to recognize you. This is a family business, and they treat you like family. 4. Food- Consistent good quality. 5. Coupons--- Plenty of coupons around for a couple bucks off. We almost always order the same things. All are great! Nav Ratan Korma, Vegetable Jalfreezi, Aloo Saag. Their naan is great too--- we have tried almost every variety, but like the Spicy Naan and the Chef Special Naan. Their outdoor patio is nice during the warm months. They do have a buffet during lunch, but I haven't tried it. If you are an Ambar enthusiast, try this place out. I am a huge Indian food fan. So I have a good idea of what other restaurants are offering during their lunch buffet. I went here for the first time, last week and was not impressed at all. My friend Jen told me this place was her favorite Indian food restaurant which is why we went. We both walked out dissatisfied with the quality and the limited choices of dishes. My friends had their daughter's birthday party there. The owner had pre signed a paper and given them 2.5hrs and he knew it was a 4 year old girl's birthday. They had it from 12pm to 230pm. At 220pm my friend went to pay them and the owner/manager was extremely rude. He said they had made too much of a mess. I've seen kids' birthdays before and this one was in no way messy. He then tried to say that they had been there for too long. And my friends husband showed him the paper where he had written the hours. He was still arguing and became rude and tell my friends to get out. They paid him what he asked for but he continued to be rude. We left to come outside after leaving the place with only their stuff remaining. There was no mess more than there would be from people dining in. He came outside and tried to push my friend's husband. I was away in my car and did not witness this otherwise I would have called 911, after all there is a police station right next door. I did see the server come outside and talk to my friends, who was apologizing and begging them not to call 911, because he has a bad temper and he is her aunt's husband. This person(owner/manager) was most likely intoxicated. I will be reporting all of this to better business bureau. But wanted to warn everyone that this is the way this person treats his customers. I have never in my life seen any restaurant owner/manager treat customers this way. read more

DusMesh is almost my favorite Indian restaurant in town. My #1 Indian Dish, Saag Paneer, they make fabulously. They also make the Naan that has raisins and coconut which you can't find at Ambar. And their other Naan's aren't bad either. So far, I've been addicted to Onion, Pudina (mint), Garlic (of course), Chapati and their plain Naan which are all wonderful! You really can't go wrong. For appetizers, I really like the Chan Ni Ki Chat, which I'm not sure how to spell. This dish is a delicious mix of spicy and sweet and is great for sharing. Also their mixed platter and other fried appetizer options come with three different "chutney's" which are more like sauces at different levels of spice, and include a mild Tamarind sauce that I like to add to my rice. For those of you trying to save a buck, a second entree is $6.00 off dine-in if you get a coupon form the BearCat Coupon book found by the City Beat kiosks all over Clifton. They also give you a free dessert, this cheese like ball covered in warm syrup at the end of your meal. read more

Previously India Palace, I'm not sure if Dusmesh is run by the same people but the place is missing the awesome Indian pop music videos that used to be projected on a rear wall. The food, however, has remained quite tasty. Lunch buffet is served strictly at lunch so I have yet to sample its variety of dishes but what I've ordered off of the menu has been great. The Malai Kofta -- fried vegetable balls in creamy sauce -- is my favorite and the Palak Paneer is quite good. The serving size is a little small for the price but it's still not as high as other local competition. They also have a proclivity towards nuts and raisins in most of their dishes which I personally don't enjoy but can probably be ordered without. The spice level also varies greatly depending on who's cooking; on one visit a 4-of-6 was tame while the 5-of-6 on a subsequent visit was considerably hotter. Dusmesh is another great choice for Indian cuisine in Cincinnati but it runs the risk of being overshadowed by the dozens of competing restaurants. read more

I'd heard about this place from a co-worker who had nothing but great things to say about the food and the staff at Dusmesh. I was happy to finally check it out and see that it was all that my co-worker said it would be. I had the Dushmesh's Special and it was wonderful. Perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of heat I was hoping for. And the portion was very generous. I also tried the saag paneer and it was very flavorful. As others have said, the nan comes in 2 large pieces, larger than I was expecting or needed, but it was tasty as always. I think this food is definitely a step or two up from some of the other Indian restaurants in the area and is definitely worth checking out. Hands down, my favorite Indian restaurant in Cincinnati. I've been for the lunch buffet and dinner. The lunch buffet offered many options - the food was hot and fresh. For dinner, the menu goes on and on. I like to try lots of different dishes, so I usually go for a combo dinner - vegetarian or meat- you can't go wrong. Plus it comes with gulab jamun - fun to say, yummier to eat! Must know before going: If you enjoy a cocktail for dinner, keep in mind that Dusmesh does not serve any alcohol. However, this is not a problem if you think ahead. They do allow you to bring your own. For me, a total plus, as you can bring your fave IPA or bottle of wine, enjoy delicious food, and save some money. But what really makes this place for me is the atmosphere. Every visit, the staff seems genuinely pleased to see you. The service is great, and the overall atmosphere pleasant. Definitely a nice, quiet place to relax and easily carry on a conversation. read more

Don't cone here expecting fine dining or upscale Indian food. Come here for the buffet expecting typical Indian street food. Quick and easy great tasting run of the mill garbage. This place isn't impressive at all but you can eat cheap and fill up fast. Service is slow but adequate. Food is just generic quality. It won't be the worst you've eaten. She makes sure to say hello and hug every person during their meal, and remembers details about customers' lives. My favorite thing at Dusmesh is the buffet. It's Northern Indian / Pakistani influence, and has 6-8 curries offered daily. Half of these are vegetarian friendly. The samosas and pakoras are the best in the city. They also offer both naan and poori. I enjoy how the buffet options vary from day to day. For example, there is always saag, but one day might be saag paneer, mushroom saag, or chick pea saag. All are tasty and it allows customers to venture outside of their favorite dishes (which usually, is the saag paneer). I also like aloo matar or gajar matar: red curry with carrots, peas and cheese. All of the sauces are lightly spiced so that you can taste the other ingredients. If you desire to burn your tongue off, Mama can bring you extra hot spices to add. There are also dishes that you can only find at Dusmesh: aloo gijjar (a gorgeously tasty potato-carrot dish laced with coriander and onion), and egg bhurji (scrambled egg masala). If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. I had the Saag Paneer and the Vegetarian Appetizer Sampler, which consisted of 5 or so veggie apps. I also sampled a few different styles of naan. Each dish was more delicious than the last! I was there for dinner and even though they were busy the service was great! Everyone had a smile on their face and was more than willing to help. The whole vibe was very welcoming. Not only did they have great service and food, but it's BYOB with no additional fee for bringing your own alcohol. I brought a bottle of wine to share, which made the evening even better. After a successful dinner here, I went back for their lunch buffet. This is quite a steal for all of the food you're offered. I ordered a good deal of food I was not familiar with and I assume it was all spot on since I ate all of it. If you are offered a spice level I would start in the middle unless you are sensitive to spicy food. I would suggest starting at level one. Level three was spot on for me. Not sure I would want to venture above four unless ya really want to turn the heat up. Food arrived on time as well. I had it delivered so I can not speak on the service or cleanliness. Used Orderup for the first time couple weeks ago and ordered Dusmesh. Even as takeout it's the best Indian Food in the area for sure!! Went to the restaurant tonight and was impressed. Got combination appetizer and I'm usually pretty picky but everything was so good. Main meal... husband had tikka masala and I got chicken curry and had garlic naan bread and also their house one that is stuffed. Husband got the mango ice cream...
