We discovered this place nearby our hotel and were looking for a good brunch spot. The reviews and menu looked good so we gave Maplewood Kitchen a try. The space is open, bright and well decorated making it very inviting for brunch. You order at the counter from the menus placed along the wall then food is delivered to your table. The various brunch items all sounded very inviting so I was having trouble deciding what to order. So I got a recommendation to try the Shakshuka. Not sure how to pronounce it but when it arrived it was just the right portion and quite tasty for brunch. It's a bowl with a red pepper sauce and feta cheese and kale along with eggs sunny side up. The dish is served with pita so you can do a little bit of dipping in the tasty sauce. To accompany our food we selected the mimosa service and bloody mary pitcher. A pitcher is just perfect for sharing. And the mimosa service was delightful. The server arrived with a bottle of Prosecco and small carafes of orange, grapefruit and blood orange juices to mix yourself. The food was fresh and tasty with prompt delivery of our food to our table. Upon entering, a sign guides you along the wall to the order counter, and of course, they attempt to seduce you with their case of pastries before you get to the register. I RESISTED so your plan was foiled, Maplewood Kitchen and Bar. The cashier was one of the friendliest I've encountered, and immediately made me feel welcomed. I ordered the Avo Toast and added an egg plus my go-to cortado. The coffee was great! Steaming hot, rich bold flavor and skilled foam art to boot. The Avo Toast was also tasty -- I appreciated the crispy bread, though it was veering towards stale. I wasn't a huge fan of the sweet honey and pistachio toppings, but the Avo was fresh and adding an egg balanced out the sweetness. The presentation was also impressive. It's modern and clean-feeling inside, with tons of seating. They also played pretty chill tunes for us morning folk. And given that I was pressed for time, the order came out super fast. Parking in the area seems tricky since it's in the center of Downtown on Race St, but I got lucky with a metered parking spot. I would 100% come back if I were passing through Cincy again. read more

To set expectations, it's a walk up, self serve counter. Order your food, choose between 20, 25 or 30% tip, take a number. Then go to the bar for your drink, do the same. The Maplewood Hash was solid, and the food the others at the table had was also. I just felt that the way the restaurant was set up and ran was not extremely efficient. The line did not move as fast as it should for a cafeteria style line. On top of this, drinks were never offered/encouraged, and some food options were not included on the menu. This location has metered parking in front or a parking garage close by. When you walk in, you get in line to order your food and then go grab a table and they will deliver the food to your table. The service was friendly and we didn't have to wait to order and it wasn't long after we did order to receive the food. Our food was really good. I enjoyed the chilaquiles even without the cheese and cream. I could have used a few less chips but overall good. My husband got the berry compote with his bread and it was fantastic. Even though there was a wait, the bartender and server kindly invited us to sit at the bar so we wouldn't have to stand in line. When you walk into the restaurant you are greeted with a nice modern farm house decoration style. Oversized lounge chairs for a booth? Sign me up. Tables of all sizes and lengths accommodate parties of any size and the "cafeteria" style of ordering your food was one that I haven't previously experienced for a brunch spot. We were able to order our meals and find ample seating for our party. I stared off with the coffee (dark roast for me) and was given an already warm mug which was a nice detail that you don't find in too many places. After making my cup just the way I like it, I sat down to a short wait for my meal. Even though the restaurant was busy, I still received my order in a decent time. I ordered the hash with a side of lemon pancakes. The hash was filled with crispy potatoes, tender mushrooms, corn and I had the eggs fried hard. It was well seasoned and very filling. The lemon pancakes came with fresh blueberries and strawberries as well as a berry compote and syrup. You really got the bite of the lemon in the pancakes without it being overpowering and the berries and syrup complimented nicely. Most of all, after I finished my meal (which I thought I wasn't because the portion size was so generous) I was treated to a cornflake cookie.
