The food was really good. It is the best Indian I have had in Cincinnati yet. I went to dinner here with my boyfriend who loves Indian, and we both really enjoyed our dinners and will be back. He ordered the tikka masala and I ordered the aloo choley. I eat my food insanely hot, so mine could have been a little hotter even though I ordered the hottest they have, but that is universal anywhere I go. Sometimes I think people don't believe me. The flavor was great though. The service was pretty good for a casual place. My only complaint was that I ordered paratha and was brought garlic naan. When I asked about the paratha, the server told me I had asked for garlic naan which I knew was incorrect. I have ordered paratha for over a decade every time, and never ordered garlic naan, and distinctly remembered saying paratha, and confirming it by saying the whole wheat naan. A server should never blame the guest for his mistake. That upset me, but the food was great so I will definitely be going back. read more

It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is very clean and well decorated. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with any menu questions. But the food is why I go here, it's THE best Indian food I've had in Cincinnati and I've eaten at almost every single restaurant. I've never been disappointed, and I'll always keep coming back. Plus this place is BYOB so you can bring your own beer or wine to drink and they don't charge a cork fee. My past few experiences at Dusmesh have been less than good. Once, they closed an hour early and we were there 30 minutes before that hour and they told us to come earlier next time, then asked us to pay in cash instead of using a card. Another time, we asked for more rice and they dropped a half-empty order of rice on our table with an attitude and walked away. And every time I have gone, we have had to ask to have our water refilled. It also tastes different. I found out that they changed ownership, so that makes sense. We got there for lunch 30 minutes before they opened and the owner let us in early and got the buffet set up a good 15 minutes before their normal opening time. Our party of five rang in the New Year at Dusmesh and we couldn't have been happier with that decision. As first time patrons the five of us enjoyed the chicken saag, chicken tikka masala, two orders of lamb vindaloo, and matar paneer. Dusmesh runs on a 1-6 spicey chart. Our dishes varied from 3 to 4. If you like spicey Indian don't be weary to go for it. Their level four was mild. Along with our main entrees we got garlic, cheese, potato and a dessert nan. The five of us (three men and two women) were completely satisfied. We even had leftovers!! The BYOB really is what sets this place apart from other comparable restaurants. Came for a lunch buffet Monday afternoon. The place is clean. Plenty of free parking. Easy to find. Food: Quality of food is very low. Spinach pakora we are very salty and runny. They use a different flour which does not hold well together (most people use besan). The Samosa was big and had average flavor, but it was moist and not crunchy. It must have been sitting in the buffet for over an hour. Vegetable korma was flavorless and very watery. Hardly any vegetables in the curry. The spinach (palak) was good, but it had no paneer, instead, they used chickpeas. In fact, no dishes had any paneer; must be a cost cutting measure. Daal makhani also lacked flavor. It was dry but tasteless. Potato and carrot sabji was dry, cold, and had no flavor. Very disappointing. Gulab jamun was from a tin can and very hard. Must have been reused for the whole week. Naan was thin but tasted good. Salad was fresh. Service: only 6 customers in the restaurant. Naan ran out and took 15 min to replace. Biryani was never refilled. Waiter only refilled water once. Rest of time I got it myself. read more

This place is just OK, but I would give it another go. We ordered 2 curries: korma and madras and I'm pretty sure we were served the same thing, just one was a little spicier. Dusmesh is one of those places that doesn't look like much from the outside, and doesn't seem to be as popular as Amol/Ambar/Akash/etc, but it really ought to be. For whatever reason, Cincinnati is flooded with really really good Indian food, and after trying (and loving) many of them, I'm tempted to give Dusmesh the crown. Frankly, it was delicious. I ate about half of my meal, and it reheated to be equally delicious the next day. We had fish vindaloo, naan, vegetable pakoras, rose lassi and saag kofta, the last of which has probably ruined me on other Indian dishes forever because it was so flavorful. As a wuss, I order my Indian at a spice level of zero, which usually results in good-but-this-is-probably-better-with-spice meals. Not so at Dusmesh, the koftas were full of flavor and the saag even more so. The fish vindaloo was reported to be quite good as well, and had no overly fishy smell to it, even on reheat. The naan and rose lassi were the usual standardly-good Indian foods, and the only points I'll concede to the other Indian places are for the pakoras: at Dusmesh they were a bit blander than you'll find at some of the other stops. The service was prompt and friendly, and we got a free little dessert after our meal, which was just the right amount of sweet and a very pleasant surprise. Went with a friend to lunch for the buffet which was decently priced at $8.99. There were plenty of vegetarian options there such as channa masala, mushroom saag, navratan korma, aloo mutter, rice, biryani, samosas, pakoras, gulab jamon, mango ice cream, kheer, chutneys, and a little salad station. I went for these options while my friend went for the non- vegetarian food in which found chunk the of bone were bound whilst my friend was eating it. The thing that annoyed me and my friend was that all the food was cold. They had energy lamps to keep the food warm enough but that didn't make a difference. The food itself was pretty bland ( mainly because since it was a buffet, they have to keep the spice level where anybody can eat it). As a person who enjoys spicy food this was kinda disappointing. I also think the flavor in the foods was honestly lacking, but I did enjoy the samosas. The crust of the samosa wasn't traditional rather a bit more on the grainy side, but good. Lastly, the mango ice cream on the buffet was melted and had a soupy consistency. Also some of the labels on the buffet were missing/wrong. Alas, the melted ice cream was still good. read more

I used to love this place I don't know what has happened to it new owners? Management? We went in for an early dinner the waitress was overwhelmed by three tables, she brought us water in dirty glasses we didn't say anything someone else must have bc she came back and switched them out. I ordered coffee which she never brought, my daughter had a mango lassi, taste was great. The food arrived it was decent but the rice was old you could tell it was from the day before. It confirmed this for me when she brought us a refill and it was fresh and just made you could tell. We never got napkins or silverware I had to go find my own fork. The service was just terrible honestly I can put up with a lot but the people working seemed to not understand proper restaurant etiquette. She carried our empty glasses out stacked inside each other then set the empty glasses on the table then brought a pitcher of water it was just strange. The worst part is I ate my leftovers later and found a big piece of hard black plastic in my food. I won't be back. Too many other choices in the area. read more

While I have always found the food at Dusmesh to be excellent, what sets it apart from the other Indian restaurants in Clifton is the service. The family that appears to run the restaurant have always been fast, helpful, and very cordial, always taking time to trade jokes with our children or chat for a moment when the place is slow. We're split between meat eaters and vegetarians, and both groups find something tasty - the lamb korma has been very good, and the paneer (indian cheese in various sauces) is also tasty. While the lunch buffet is very good, dinner has the advantage of tasting a little fresher, particularly when it comes to the naan. Either way, we've never left feeling disappointed. read more

Great restaurant. In a town with lots of Indian choices, this one has become of my favorites for several reasons. First, Dusmesh seems to use a lot less heavy cream than other more ordinary Indian places. Second, the dishes each have distinctive flavors, as comparied to Ambar - Clifton's perennial favorite - in which many dishes are made with the same base and taste pretty much the same. Third, Dusmesh has that wonderful $6 coupon. Although it is not honored on Friday and Saturday, the coupon is still quite appreciated. Fourth, the service is excellent and friendly. Five - the spice level is well executed. A "1" is "1"; a "2" is "2'", etc. The place is a real class act. I've gone with friends and tried the bhartha (eggplant) with mushroom; the fish tikka, which uses fresh salmon, saag paneer, onion naan, etc. All delicious, as is the chai. Also, the dishes are a manageable size - not an enormous portion that does little but add to the waistline. Yes, it's great to have leftovers the next day, but I still like that the dishes are not overwhelming in size. read more

The food used to be good but in the last few visits, I noticed new staff and worsening quality of food that is served and also the servers are bad. I recently had a horrible incident. The server brought cold naan and argued that it was cold because it had laid on my table for a few minutes. I asked for the chef who didnt show his face this time. Next thing I see is that the servers are not coming to my table. I am an Indian and know what Indian food is. Dear friends, please dont be fooled by Dushmesh's food. The green sauce they serve is artificial and a lot of food has artificial colors, ?? edible or not. Deep, Amol , Amma's kitchen serve much better food. What can I say but excellent! We went there as a group for my son's birthday and we're not disappointed. The service was on spot with water glasses never empty and extra rice brought as soon as we asked.I had the special chicken tikki marsala plate with hot and spicy nan. It was divine. I brought a small cooler in with craft beers, and my son's girlfriend brought wine to share. The wait staff brought us wine and beer glasses promptly because they're a BYOB establishment. BONUS. Delicious chicken curry! It's a red curry, and was spicier I expected, but it was so good I didn't mind. I ordered a 4 out of 6, and they aren't messing around with their heat. One of the more tastier Indian restaurants around Cincinnati. The food actually is not too rich in cream or spices. The varieties of dish do taste different based on the spices used (unlike many other americanised Indian restaurants). The wait staff needs to be better trained (clumsy and non-consistent with serve time). Otherwise, this is a highly recommended place. If you are in the clifton area, I would avoid Ambar or Amol and drive another mile up the road to Dusmesh. read more

This is my new most favorite Indian place in the near Cincinnati area to sit down and enjoy a meal. The food is excellent and they are true to their spice level (which is rare). I've eaten their lunch buffet as well, which is a great deal with good food that is eaten fast enough to be fresh and warm. It's a byo and they handle large groups well. They got really popular really fast and I think their service, which is so friendly and gracious, has not kept up with the speed expected. Talk about a welcoming atmosphere! Not only does this restaurant resemble someone's home, but the wait staff are genuinely nice caring people. The second we walked in the gentleman seating asked very sincerely "So, how are you? Did you have a nice day?" You can usually tell people in the service industry are just going through the motions with comments like that, but this was almost shockingly sincere. I couldn't help but smile. Not only is the wait staff very sweet, but the food is super yummy! If you like Indian food they are sure to have your favorite (and the menu is number if you just aren't quite sure how to pronounce a certain dish). Their menu is quite extensive, and though the prices are a touch high (entrees range from $10-14) the portion is enough for two meals. I had Chicken Tikka Masala and it was delicious. I will say they use the "spicy scale" and I got a 5 which I typically do and it was particularly spicy. My lips were actually burning. Luckily I like spicy so it wasn't a problem, just a bit spicier than I am used to. So if you love Indian food and a friendly welcoming atmosphere Dusmesh is a great choice. I am no expert on Indian food but I have to say that Dusmesh is some of the best I have had in Cincinnati. Both times I have been here I was greeted very warmly at the door by the hostess. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room. When ever I go to Dusmesh I order the garlic naan which ,needless to say, is absolutely delicious. I like to try something outside of my normal range of food and the options here allow me to do so. For an entree I have tried vegetarian dishes as well as dishes with chicken or lamb and I have left satisfied each time. On top of it all they have a substantial parking lot. BYOB also. read more

My first visit here was a pleasant surprise. The service was superb, something I wasn't expecting. My water glass was never more than half empty and our waiter was very attentive and helpful. He suggested Keshmeri nan bread which was excellent! I highly recommend it. We also got the garlic nan which delicious. The food came out quickly and was hot. I got the vegetable jalfrezi and my husband got the Bartha mushroom and both were excellent. We also had rice pudding and the fried cheese ball for dessert. Very yummy.
