We had such a fabulous time at Morningbird last weekend. Everything about the experience was on…read morepoint: the vibes, the service, the food, the drinks. It certainly didn't hurt that the weather was beautiful and there was one outdoor table open when we arrived so we could sit with our dog by our side. Morningbird is a great fit for the area and absolutely worth visiting even if you're a town or two away. We came here around 1pm on a Saturday, on our way from Hudson to the Adirondacks. Thankfully it was on the way, allowing us to both shave off a bit of our drive and try a new spot we'd been eying for a while. Thanks to some pictures on Google, I saw that there were at least a few outdoor tables, which was important because we had our dog with us. You need to order inside but they'll bring it out to your when it's ready. Though we only spent all of five minutes indoors, I immediately loved the vibe and could picture myself hanging, reading, working here for a while. All the tables were full at this hour, but it did not seem overly packed. The coffee here is delicious, though I can only speak to the cold brew. That said, a friend of ours speaks highly of the lattes/other espresso drinks, for what it's worth. While waiting for my coffee, I perused the selection of prepared foods -- curated with a precision I've come to expect of most businesses in this area. As some have mentioned, the food at Morningbird (and the neighboring Aviary) is Asian-inspired, as are the items for sale. Expect gourmet condiments and seasoning, alongside plenty of coffee/tea and coffee/tea-related products. It's a marvel that I didn't walk out of there with five jars of chili crisp (potentially my all-time favorite condiment). Food-wise, I got the Iceberg Wedge w/ fried shiitakes, blistered sungolds, salted cashews, vegan thai green goddess dressing and my partner got the Fried Omelette and Kale over rice w/ garlic fried rice, roasted kale, crispy shallot. Every ingredient of both dishes was fresh and delicious and flavorful, and the preparations were familiar with a bit of whimsy. The prices are extremely reasonable for both items, but it's possible that it's because they're both on the smaller side as far as entrees go. Not a complaint, just worth mentioning in case you are very hungry. Service was super fast, almost impossibly so. An enjoyable experience start to finish, making Morningbird a spot we'll certainly be returning to.

Inside there is a dining area that wraps around bathrooms. On the counters, staff left their empty gum wrappers, staff drink coolers, dirty rags, half eaten sandwiches, empty bottles, refilled Tostitos jars with stinky substances, papers, and cloths etc. At the counter there was a long wait. Regular visitors brought their own food. Several of the service vitrines were cracked. The glass + tableware racks that busboys brought, were very dirty (see pictures, replace them). My meatloaf sandwich - which is a staple that I usually opt for, when there are many items, was filled with carrot and greens; which left a weird taste, that was not meatloafy on my palette! The sides were good, the coffee as well: but the coffee was always empty. The food is middle of the road. Service is slow and lacks a single 'leader' who can keep business humming along. People waited to pay. Cash was left unpaid on the register - people just gave up and walked out. It is very very chaotic. Food is passable, not refined. Coffee refills took a very long time. Chaotic female wait staff, that creates massive dining room problems and backups for diners wanting to pay. Staff make problems not solving them! Review: -4

Our omelets were generously sized but dry, under-seasoned, and filled with soggy vegetables. The crispy, well-cooked home fries were the standout of the plate. The presentation was just as uninspired as the flavor as this was one of the few meals I've had that didn't inspire me to reach for my camera.

I think the menu has expanded. There were salads that I could have ordered but when I read the description of their Rodeo Burger, I just had to have one: local beef with huge onion rings. provolone cheese, BBQ sauce and thick Applewood smoked bacon strips on a brioche bun. Wow. It was divine. It cost about $13 which might be a little steep for most burgers but this one was far from ordinary. The same goes for their boozy milk shakes which run about $10. I picked the "Top of the Mornin' ," which consisted of Colombian Coffee Ice Cream, Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, Irish Cream, iced coffee, whipped cream and fudge. That was every bit as amazing as the burger. However, I only drank half of my shake and gave the rest to my friend because I had to make sure I could drive home. We were both fine. Service was very good. I think it only took about 10-15 minutes to fill our orders. That's pretty remarkable when you see what's involved. It's a family-run operation and everyone there is nice including the young woman who took our order. The farm themed restaurant was very busy when we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. It was too late for lunch and too early for dinner but plenty of customers were apparently in sync with our schedule. There've been some upgrades to the decor since I last visited a few years ago. It seems they've added a fireplace at one end of the restaurant and a large farm themed play area for kids on the opposite end. There's even a taproom. It's a clean, cozy, family-friendly eatery that serves up farm fresh food. I didn't realize that Del's has another location in Rhinebeck and a family dairy farm in Red Hook. Perhaps my roadtrips will take me there someday.

So I stopped in and they have delicious burgers and shakes. Tonight I tried the rodeo burger with fries. It was a smash burger on a brioche bun with Swiss cheese, onion ring, and BBQ sauce. Served with fries and a small vanilla shake. Now their ice cream is fresh. The milk comes from the dairy farm across the street. Also they serve craft beer from Hudson's Upper Depot. This is definately a spot in Columbia county everyone should try.

The staff is really friendly and I think I only came by here two or three times before they knew me by name. The shelves are always fully stocked, and they even make sure to stock ALL of the flavors of ice cream--even in winter (I'm looking at you, Fireworks). They're always having sale specials (though I only notice the ice cream ones) The bathrooms and seating areas both inside and outside are clean--you'll never sit down to a table with old ice cream on it. They've got free air for your bike if you want it, and once a staff member even helped me fill up my tires. Go Stewart's!

Our server seemed very annoyed that she had to make two simple bowls of ice cream for my children. To add insult to injury, she didn't say thank you and only told me my total, gave me my change and said "next" to the only other guy behind me in line. The condition of the store was not up to par either. My wife left with. Stain on her jeans from something on the edge of the table we sat at which out of all of them seemed "the cleanest" considering all of them needed to be wiped down and this one had the least amount of smudges on the table top. Shame on you Stewart's for allowing such poor customer service and facility cleanliness at this location. I have come to expect so much more from your stores and unfortunately this location really let me down. At least the ice cream hasn't changed...
