Dirty floors. Tried to show filth with paper towels left

Very disappointing stay. Our unit was under construction when we arrived, with no prior notice. The "repair" was never fixed, and the place was filthy--dusty bedding, bugs on the counters, and floors so dirty a paper towel came up black in a few swipes. Management was unprofessional, avoiding us at checkout after promising to handle things. They refused a full night's refund and instead gave a $300 credit, but that's not acceptable. We will not be returning. Do not stay here.

This was a pretty great place. At $200 a night with a queen bed and three single beds it's really not expensive if you look at it per person. Pros: Location location location. It's five minutes from a dock on flaming gorge. That will always be the biggest plus. AC is super strong for the hot summer days. Beds were super comfy. Bathrooms were clean and nice with strong water pressure and nice towels. Fire pits located out front. Cons: The pots and pans and utensils selection per cabin is not consistent at all and overall not really great. The WiFi really wasn't good so don't really count on that. But you have a strong cell signal. Not really a deal breaker for me but a place to improve. Overall, I'd totally go here again.

We were camping in the Flaming Gorge area and stopped for gas and (what we thought would be) a quick meal. Service was glacially slow and the food not great. Now I don't mind a $12 hamburger when it's great, but these are plain old pre-fab distributor burgers with nothing to make them worth the high dollar tag (other than being remote and not having a whole lot of choice of other places to go). I got the coconut shrimp appetizer, knowing it would be 6 shrimp, but thinking for a $12 burger, there would at least be enough fries to share with the hubby. Sadly it was a tiny amount of fries as well. If you have to charge that much for bland food, at least make it up with a little volume. Anyway, disappointing experience. Flaming Gorge Resort is only 15 minutes away and MUCH better food.

I was very happy to get a cabin last minute Thursday evening. It was $250 for one night. The cabin…read morewas very nice, so I was happy to pay the price. I booked a guided fishing trip for early the following morning. I woke at 6:00 am packed my belongings. When I looked under the bed to see if I had missed anything, I was mortified. There were beer cans, nicotine tin, tissues, and what appeared to be some sort of bone. Yes, a meat bone. I had to meet my guide at 7:00 am. The store was closed so I called the posted phone number to report the issue. A man answered the second number I dialed. I told him what happened. He told me the store opened at 6:30 and he couldn't do anything. At 6:30 the store opened and I talked to a woman at the counter and showed her the pictures. I asked her to look at the cabin. She said she believed me and I texted the pictures to her. When I returned from my fishing trip it was around 5:00 pm. I went into the store and talked to a different woman behind the counter. She told me she had to talk to someone and left. When she returned, she said the manager would take ten percent off the room rate. No apology or anything. I told her that was unacceptable. She left again and a few minutes later the manager, Dave, came out. To make a long story short, Dave accused me of placing the trash under the bed. I told him that I am a retired peace officer, a lieutenant with a CA agency and an upstanding person. He again accused me of putting the trash under the bed as some sort of scam. He said he gets scammed all the time. I took umbrage to this and told him off. He told me to leave, grabbed my arm and started to escort me out. I told him to take his hand off me, which he did. Then he told me he was going to get five guys to take me out. I said, "go ahead". He said he was going to call the police. I said , "please do". When he didn't, I did. A sheriff deputy arrived a short time later. I told him I realized he couldn't do anything and he said he'd talk to Dave. He asked if I paid with a credit card and I said I did. He said if they decided to give me a refund, I would see a credit. I told him I wouldn't expect to see that. I have my own Airbnb and am a super host. I would never treat my guests this way. I would have probably been satisfied with a sincere apology, but 10 percent off the room rate with no apology? That's an insult. And he sends his employee back to extend the offer rather than come talk to me himself. The fishing guide told me he's heard nothing but bad things about Dutch John resort. I've read some other reviews, all negative. Dave is mentioned specifically in one, similar attitude. The owner brushes them all off as disgruntled customers, unjustified.

The property is located in the heart of the Vernal business district, within an easy walk of any businesses in the area. We walked to dinner each night. The layout appears to be the combination of 2 distinct original motels, now combined. This includes an Italian restaurant (reviewed separately). The rooms associated with both of the original motels surround a pool. Rooms are direct access to the parking lot (i.e., no 'central hallway'), which was fine for us. Check-in was easy. They also provide a couple of computers for guest access. This was useful on our last night for printing our boarding passes. In addition, they allow access to their dining room so that you can refill water bottles throughout the day, a service which we took full advantage of. Rooms in back of the pool are slightly trickier to park, but otherwise there was no issue. Our room was spacious in terms of where you can lay out a suitcase. There was also plenty of room on the bathroom counter for all 3 of us. This was in stark contrast to some places we've stayed in the last year (I'm looking at you, Amsterdam!). The only slight drawback to the room was the beds. I don't know that this was quite 'queen size', so 2 of us together both felt a bit cramped. It wasn't a big deal, though. Breakfast on the mornings we stayed here was from 6:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. The 'rush' seemed to be at 6:30 a.m., as those with river rafting reservations got there early. The process was a bit unique - you queued up and placed an order for most of your food (eggs, bacon, cereal, bread, etc.). Once you got that, you proceeded into the dining room to eat (and to toast your bread, etc.). Coffee and juice was self-serve. I didn't object to this, as I got basically the same food that I'd have had at Hampton Inn, etc. I assume they'd had some issues with food waste, and this was their solution. The food itself was pretty standard. Overall, this is a fairly basic motel that should meet most peoples' needs. I'd consider staying here again if I returned to Vernal.
