Oh, where do I start? On June 1, 2021, my wife reserved 2 drift boats for July 7th. We later called to change the reservation for 1 drift boat for July 8th, but we were never able to speak to a live person, so my wife left a voicemail. After a few days of not hearing back from Dutch John Resort, my wife called again and left another message. Long story short, my wife called a total of 5 times and no one ever returned her call. One person said someone would. Jump to July 8th. We arrived at the store to pick up our drift boat, what a nightmare. We contacted the young lady who was working in the fly fishing store, and she was truly a breath of fresh air (Ms. Martinez is her name). She went through our reservations and it turns out whoever was responsible for updating our reservation decided to just cancel it. Ms. Martinez handled our reservation as a walk in and was able to direct us to the general store where we were able to book a drift boat for the day. We paid for the rental and drove around to the back side of the store to retrieve our rental. No, it was not that easy. I handed my receipt to the gentleman and he told me to park near the trailers they have lined up near the parking lot, so that is what I did. After approximately 15 minutes, nothing is happening. I walked back over to the boat rental "shack" and the gentleman is telling me my ball hitch is to big ( mine is a 2 5/16 hitch, but I need a 2 inch ball hitch). As he is searching for a hitch, I hear him speaking with another employee asking where "P" is (I used his first initial so I don't embarrass "P"). He then tells the employee "P" is not supposed to be driving because he doesn't have a license, and he is gone, he is finished with "P" because he has told him before not to drive without a driver's license. After approximately an hour of waiting, he finds a ball hitch, hooks up my truck to the trailer and has me drive around to a covered outside fenced area. I did as he requested. I exited my vehicle and I saw the drift boat rental assigned to me. The boat was covered in dirt, there were beer cans and drink cans in the boat and water was still in the boat. He proceeds to use an empty Folgers coffee container to bale out the water, then I help him load it onto the trailer with 2 other employees. As my wife and I are driving out to were we are going to launch the boat, we start discussing the time we wasted waiting for the gentleman to find a tow hitch and prepping the boat. I decided to call Dutch John to see if I could return the boat a first thing in the morning due to the delay and due to the current time; it was approximately 1400 hours when we finally hit the road to the launch site. Oh yeah, the launch site was about an hour away, and the boat needed to be returned by 1900 hours; that simply was not going to happen. A young lady answered the phone and told us if we kept the boat past 1900 hours, we would incur a second days charge ($270.00). We said never mind, but called back 5 minutes later to rent the boat for a second day. Sounds easy enough, right? Nope. When I returned the boat on the 9th, a young man told me I was not getting my deposit back because I did not return the boat on the previous day. He told me "Dave" wanted to talk to me, so he went into the store to get Dave. A few minutes later he came back out and told me "Dave" wanted me to go into the store to talk to him. At this point I am getting very frustrated, but I complied. I walked into the store and asked for "Dave". Guess what, "Dave" was to busy to speak with me, so he sent out one of his employees. The employee was a young lady and she was very nice, courteous and respectful. I explained my "Dutch John Resort" experience with her and she told me she would go back to speak with "Dave". I don't even know if there really is a "Dave" as I have never seen or spoken with him. Anyway, she returns and cleared up THEIR confusion about the late return. I showed the young lady the charge on my card for the second day. Overall experience would be a 1, but the two ladies I dealt with were very helpful, courteous, understanding and respectful. Location is good. "Resort" is in disrepair and neither clean nor comfortable. Very dumpy and with years of delayed maintenance and unclean. The toilet seat had yellow stains. Manager gave us options to change rooms, none were up to basic cleanliness standards. We did not stay and found other accommodations. We were not given a refund and are forced to work with our credit card service for a disputed transaction. It's a big drive to get there and once you are there options for lodging are limited. This place is a dump and has horrible business practices. They do not allow cancellations even months out from reservations. They "credit" your "guest account" at 70% for future stays. Totally ridiculous. Airbnb, camp, stay at any other lodge or sleep in your car before you hand your money to this flea colony. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! This is by far the worst run and operated "resort" I have ever seen, and they dont care. They give zero effort to cleaning and maintaining the cabins. There was mountains of mouse droppings we had to clean ourselves. Dishes are caked with old food, floors were disgusting, drips and dirt covering the walls. Mice ate over $150 worth of my food. Power was out for a day of our stay. On my third day staying here I was berated by a woman that seemed to be a manager in a red van while walking into my cabin asking who I was and what I was doing. I made reservations 3 months in advance with David .., even called 1 month prior to reconfirm. Upon arrival I learned the site was " triple " booked. So, 3 parties had to figure the problem out. The situation was intense in 100 degree temps. Management was totally incompetent and unapologetic. The park is mostly dirt, weeds were overgrown throughout and trash dumpsters overflowing. I cancelled 3 nites of my 5 night reservation and left in disgust. No directional entry signage from the hwy caused great confusion for a 40 ft class A towing a car. Was forced to unhook to search for a site myself. No aid from Management. The campground host never made an appearance. Definitely not recommended. Worst experience ever. read more

We stayed in the wrangler cabin. No hand soap in bathrooms, no paper towels, 1 towel for the kitchen, dishes were all dirty, hair in the showers, shower handles don't work, fridge took a full day to get cool. The entire place is dirty. Including the gas stations and restaurants. The "pond" is a stagnant pool of warm water with tons of bugs and stinky mud. Would not return. Sleeps 7 but coffee maker makes a cup. lol. read more

Got to the takeout at Indian Crossing a little before noon. Shuttle company was to deliver by noon. By 12:30, I found the van driver that was taking the drivers back to Dutch John. He said there was a delay. About 15 min later, only one truck/trailer shows up (not mine). They said they couldn't find it. I explained that it was at Little Hole 2. The driver didn't even know where that was. They left and came back with my truck/trailer at 3:00pm. The van driver said I would be refunded. No refund to my card. I called 3 times over the last week and a half. All times the desk person took a message and said a manager would call me back. I never got a call nor a refund. Now when I call they don't answer the phone. DONT USE THEM. read more

Booked our spot 2-3 weeks in advance. Person on phone said the new spots were nice, so we decided one of the new spots. We paid somewhere in the high $60/nt range for full hookups and were really expecting something a lot nicer. When we pulled up to our assigned spot someone else was already occupying it. It was obvious this person was using this spot on a long term basis. We followed the signs to the "camp host" and I would not want to go inside those gates even if I were an armed police officer. That place is scary. The site was nothing but a roughly graded fine dirt spot. Zero gravel and dirt grading wasn't smooth nor was it close to level. The outdoor table provided was old and obviously used somewhere in the park for many previous years. The best thing about the site were the pine trees separating the lots. If you want to get filthy dirty then please book and stay in one of these spots. The entire park does not feel safe in the sense that you would leave anything out overnight. At $65+ per night this place is a rip off in our opinion. read more

I'm certain most of the business here is from people who booked a trip and realized the cancellation policy was " no refunds" and are still forced to go in order to spend their credit- which you can only use on camping or shuttle. Nothing else. 1- pay the deposit only. Don't pay for Your trip up front if you're coming. 2- it's hard to communicate with the staff bc the majority are exchange students. So patience is needed, they're trying their best. 3- go anywhere else. There aren't many options. It's great if you're coming and not planning on enjoying anything other than the river. I've gotta say, for the price we paid to stay there, I was pretty disappointed; we were put in a lodge that had visible damage, cheap dishes and Tupperware...It just looked tore up. When we tried to get some of them addressed, they still charged us full price, despite us having to fight for things like dishes to cook with, dishwasher detergent. We paid a lot of money, but got nickle and diced, and for pretty substandard lodging. Would definitely recommend an AirBNB next time.​ read more

Very disappointing stay. Our unit was under construction when we arrived, with no prior notice. The "repair" was never fixed, and the place was filthy--dusty bedding, bugs on the counters, and floors so dirty a paper towel came up black in a few swipes. Management was unprofessional, avoiding us at checkout after promising to handle things. They refused a full night's refund and instead gave a $300 credit, but that's not acceptable. After an exhausting day we ordered a couple of pizzas. They were listed as $29 and $24. A little pricey but okay I remember them being really good from a couple years ago. Picked up my pizza they charged me $79+. When I tried to question it they couldn't understand me there was nobody around the manager wasn't there. It was late in the evening. Okay I'll swallow it. Get the pizzas back to campsite and they are very dried out dough that was cooked after being dried out the toppings were all still very raw. Checking out my receipt I was charged $42 for a 16-in combination pizza. Not a 20-in mind you this is a little 16 in. Then charged $29 for a simple ham and pineapple. Again this is not a large 20-in pizza this is a 16-in pizza which is their large. $80 for two kind of small large pizzas. read more

Unfortunately our stay at the Cowboy cabins at Dutch John was not a great experience. This has been an annual trip for our family to spend on the lake boating(we are from CO). Don't get me wrong, the cabins have never been a 5 star but they were at least clean. This time the cabin was disgusting. The dust on the fan was awful, there was a mouse trap in the bathroom, the shower ran over the ledge creating a pool on the floor, the window seals had spider webs... overall it was disgusting!! And the cafe??? AWFUL! Food was disgusting, service was awful and the place was filthy. Again the window seals had dead bugs, dirt and flies. Needless to say we will not be coming back!! The lake is absolutely beautiful and the tiki bar on the lake is fantastic. read more

The kitchen is disgusting, the kitchen crew are all foreign exchange students who don't know how to cook or cut a steak or even know when chicken is done! They have gallons of used fryer grease/oil lined up on the kitchen line, their dishwashing machine doesn't even WASH dishes only sanitizes them. This was a pretty great place. At $200 a night with a queen bed and three single beds it's really not expensive if you look at it per person. Pros: Location location location. It's five minutes from a dock on flaming gorge. That will always be the biggest plus. AC is super strong for the hot summer days. Beds were super comfy. Bathrooms were clean and nice with strong water pressure and nice towels. Fire pits located out front. Cons: The pots and pans and utensils selection per cabin is not consistent at all and overall not really great. The WiFi really wasn't good so don't really count on that. But you have a strong cell signal. Not really a deal breaker for me but a place to improve. Overall, I'd totally go here again. read more

We were camping in the Flaming Gorge area and stopped for gas and (what we thought would be) a quick meal. Service was glacially slow and the food not great. Now I don't mind a $12 hamburger when it's great, but these are plain old pre-fab distributor burgers with nothing to make them worth the high dollar tag (other than being remote and not having a whole lot of choice of other places to go). I got the coconut shrimp appetizer, knowing it would be 6 shrimp, but thinking for a $12 burger, there would at least be enough fries to share with the hubby. Sadly it was a tiny amount of fries as well. If you have to charge that much for bland food, at least make it up with a little volume. Anyway, disappointing experience. Flaming Gorge Resort is only 15 minutes away and MUCH better food. read more

We made a cabin reservation and chose two deluxe cabins but the person on the phone convinced us to stay in a new cabin that is so new it wasn't even on the website. The first couple in our group checked in and what they walked into was a not new cabin in the middle of a construction site. It was so dirty they tried mopping the floors but for $500 a night it definitely wasn't acceptable! They went back to the check in office and thankfully the people let us stay in two plus cabins even though we had dogs. These cabins were much better and we were told that these cabins would actually be cheaper. We had a good two nights. We hung out outside because of Covid. We cleaned the entire cabin before check out. When we checked out we asked for our bill to be printed. It was about 260 less then what we were originally charged for. A couple of days later my card finalized for the higher amount so I called. The girl told me that it was a dog charge (150) but they decided not to refund any money because they had to clean extra. What a bunch of crap. We were outside the entire time. Our dogs slept in a crate and in the floor. We didn't allow them on the furniture. She then said she could give me a 100 refund. She took my credit card number....it's been a week and no refund. I e tried calling again and no one with any authority has returned my call. I just hate it when people are deceitful. Don't randomly keep my money. The website said these cabins were 179 a night. They charged us 199 a night. I would never return or recommend this place. read more

My wife and I rented a nice cabin there in 2018 and that was a 5 star experience. Made reservations last February for a cabin in July 2022. Well in advance. My wife's work load changed and I cancelled our reservation early April. 3 months in advance cancellation and they are keeping $250. When I call, I only get a clerk at the store register and no one who is responsible. read more

-When I called ahead to ask about amenities that were unclear in the online cabin description, the desk staff said "I think so" to all of my questions and when I arrived it did not have what she "thought" to be present (sink in the cabin and basic kitchen supplies). -They would not let us check in half an hour early, when we were finally allowed to check in the room was still not ready. - The non-smoking cabin smelled of cigarette smoke. - The shared men's toilets and stalls were filthy; appeared to be smeared with poop. As I was checking in I heard another customer report to the desk staff "we asked for the bathrooms to be cleaned yesterday and they are in the same condition." -No communal kitchen facilities for the many cabins without running water. Not even a sink to wash dishes. A few grills, but they are dirty and in disrepair. Bottom line, this place has potential, but seems poorly run. It's expensive for what you get, might as well do dispersed camping nearby. read more

Definitely off our list of places to have a guided fly fishing experience!! To start off, we notified the front desk we would be arriving late, as we were picking up our veteran fro the Salt Lake airport at 4:15 PM. While they did give us the code to open the cabin, they failed to tell us which room we had. So, when we arrived we had to guess which rooms were unoccupied by the absence of vehicles in front if the unit, then try the code until we found the one that unlocked the door!! This took about 6 trys!! Really unacceptable! We booked two boats for three people, one of which was our guest veteran. Turns out the folks at Dutch John Resort substituted a guide, we ended up with a guide who was taking his very first trip down the 'C' section, this of course put us at a disadvantage, add in that he was also inexperienced as a guide, luckily we put our veteran alone with the other guide 'Doug', who got our veteran into several nice browns up to 22". Adding to this crappy experience, one of the seats in the (inexperienced guides) boat broke loose and was unusable!! Think about what could have happened if it occurred on the rough portion of the 'A' section, and there was not another boat with only on person in it. Stopped for pizza and wings here and were vastly disappointed in the service followed up with marginal food. Meat Lovers pizza requested with no olives and mushrooms came with mushrooms. BBQ wings were cold and celery was limp. $38 for the pizza and $10 for 8 wings. Margarita ($10) was watered-down and beer on tap ($4.50) was in a small plastic cup. can't say we had a good experience at Dutch John resort. when we could get help they couldn't answer our questions. service was terrible. my wife wanted a milkshake at the ice cream counter but couldn't get anyone to help her after repeatedly requesting for help. gas is ten cents higher than next door and it costs $25 to dump when two other places nearby are $6 and $7. they did, however, let us fill our trailer with water at no charge. all in all we can't recommend this establishment. read more

A campground with so much lost potential. Cabin lite was nice but it's very clear that either cleaning is not a priority or they simply don't have anyone cleaning. Floors left dirty, I chose to believe bedding was clean. Overall the cabin was nice had it been clean I'd give it 5 stars. The trailer parking (camper) is poorly maintained and left us wanting more. Very muddy, no gravel. The showers and bathroom are where this story turns nasty, I believe that these bathrooms and showers have not been cleaned in many weeks, no toilet paper ( think industrial size dispensers, double roll), mud on floors, Actual poop sprayed on toilets! Shower muddy, hair everywhere, empty bottles of soaps on floor, some had curtains some didn't. Only plus was the shower was hot and good pressure. Could be a great place but management has seemed to look the other way. read more

I have to say I wasn't real impressed with our stay at Dutch John resort last week. I made a reservation and I was told I would get a pull through site big enough to handle slide out on both sides. When I got to the site, I could barely open both slide outs. In fact There was no room on either side to pull out my small bbq unit to use, no tables and no fire pits - very disappointing. On top of that , the power kept going out each day (in the middle of the day )Saturday was put for over five hours. Wouldn't complain, but these site aren't cheap. The dinner was terrible and overpriced. The burger was decent but steaks and salmon were awful. They brought the wrong wine then told me they didn't have what I ordered. We had reserved a cabin. Price was fine and looked cute. We received the key and when we arrived, someone was already in the cabin. They sold the same cabin twice on the same night. The alternative they provided was to put us in an employee cabin but it wouldn't be ready for an hour and a half (by nearly 9pm). Poor service. Confused employees. read more

We stayed 3 nights here. This property has so much potential, but the management is asleep at the wheel here. The Good: met some really nice people like Joy at the front desk, LeeAnne & other kitchen managers, head fishing guide Mike etc. This is an awesome area below the Flaming Gorge. The Bad: Our last night and next morning couldn't use the shower because our key entry didn't work. Fishing guide we used for an all day 600$ trip started us late and quit early. Site itself really needs some gravel on the roadways, grass and trees are in dire need here, also. Probably the worst was the fact that the bath house hadn't been cleaned in the 3 days we were there, which is totally inexcusable especially since we are in a pandemic. Rafts were of good quality. The raft trailers are constructed where the tire can rub the outside of the rafts, causing damage. Be sure to over inspect the equipment for wear and damage. I was charged $50 for a cheap $23 oar that was already broken. The raft rental manager was unwilling to listen to any explanation or offer any consideration for providing a defective oar. The following day I found one of the owners and explained the situation. He was genuinely interested in my feedback, listened intently and pulled a $50 bill from his pocket and gave it to me. He said most of the time he only gets internet postings without the benefit of face to face resolution. My opinion of this business man is held in high regard. read more

No safety or equipment explanation given by Dutch John Raft Rental resulted in my husband getting hurt when he bounced out of the raft in rapids. We rented a 4 person raft for what they called a "float", and paid for our car to be shuttled to the exit launch. We told them we had never rafted before, they helped us strap the raft on our car, arranged the car shuttle details, telling us to park at the launch area illegally saying, "It's okay, we have people do it all the time." They gave no explanation for the 3rd oar, or that we had to wear life jackets, or why we were given a bailing bucket. No safety or rafting information. We don't blame them completely for the accident, but some instruction could have prevented it. My husband ended up with a broken rib, bruised lung, and hurt his back. With help from fishermen, we go the raft to shore and got him in the car then on our way to the ER. A nice couple returned our raft for us. read more

This place has the worst customer service due to the younger man managing the place the older man and the housekeeper are amazing we ended up cutting our trip short by one night due to the horrible customer service we received from him if it wasn't for the older gentleman and the sweet housekeeper we wouldn't have stayed after the first night and for the high price you pay for the cabins it's not worth being treated like shit when you can stay at a few other places around that area flaming George or red canyon lodge for at least $100 per night cheaper and not have to be treated that way and feel like you have put him out cause he has to help you read more
