This is the best place to stay if you're a fly fisherman or a family in the area. Outside those perimeters, We were 2 older couples (God I hate admitting that) there for 2 days of fly fishing The Green. The fishing was good, but the wives were bored. Just being honest here. Not much to do really. The cabins are fine as is the restaurant. It's a nice spot, but don't go expecting more. You won't get it. Awesome food! BEST food in Dutch John, UT! BEST food around Flaming Gorge! The pesto burrata was awesome! The Bavarian pretzel with three cheese sauces was great! One cheese sauce was homemade queso. One cheese sauce was homemade pimento cheese dip. The salads are great too! Fresh local berries on the salads! Wow newly remodeled beautifully done. Cozy and comfortable we love this place a little cabin has everything you need bedroom has door for some privacy. Alpine 20 is a king bed a small dressing area. Living room has a couch that turn into a bed. A small kitchenette with a table for two electric stove with a pot and pan kitchen utensils. A coffee maker with coffee. Bathroom comes with plenty of fresh towels, soap and shampoo. Staff is there if you need them they will clean your room if you need it and if you want something they will bring it to. Loved our stay here. Free firewood during your stay for the fire pit outside. Highly recommend staying here. The little cabins are situated in a way that you still have privacy they are not to close. The property itself has a store cute stuff I bought some sunglasses for a good deal. A restaurant check the hours. They rents everything you need for the lake even fishing poles. Mountain bikes. You can rent them daily or for your whole stay. Walking trails and sunset horse back riding. Nice little get away loved this place. read more

I'm not even sure where to start on how amazing this place is. We came in the off-season for Thanksgiving weekend. So the restaurant is closed at this time and it seems like activities are limited. But, that's what we actually enjoy is peace and quiet. We were able to walk a short distance to the rim of Flaming Gorge to look at an amazing site. we were the only ones enjoying the area. We honestly didn't expect much from the Hosts because it's off-season and there's not much going on. But boy was I wrong. The Hosts werevery interactive checked in on us. They even set us up with Starlink because the Wi-Fi bandwidth was not high enough for where our cabin was located. The place was immaculate, well stocked and just overall a welcoming Feel. There were a few other families doing Thanksgiving up there. Our cabin had a Kitchenette, we brought food that we could warm up on the stove. There were some families that brought up their smokers and then smoked a turkey. What a great idea !!There's fire pit and free firewood delivered daily. I'm not much of a winter person, but I am toying with the idea of going up there for snowshoeing when the snow flies because I just can't get over what a great place this is and what great hosts Daisy and Trevor are. I first came across the Red Canyon Lodge more than 10 years ago when I was in the area for work. While exploring the Flaming Gorge recreational area, I stopped in to grab a beverage and realized I could eat here! On the latest visit I brought my co-worker, who had never been in the area. We were seated right by the window where we were entertained for well over an hour by a family of ducks, a beautiful blue and black woodpecker, a group of swans, and roughly a dozen hummingbirds attracted by the feeders just near the windows. For our dinner we had the prime rib special. There was an 8-oz option and a 12-oz option; I went for the 8-oz, and the meat was cooked perfectly with a well seasoned crust and just enough marbling. The au jus was not very flavorful, and the meat was not very hot, but it was still enjoyable. With the special you had a choice of potato - I got the roasted fingerlings which were perfect; my co-worker is an aficionado of mashed potatoes and enjoyed hers. We also had a choice of vegetable, and both got the asparagus which was cooked perfectly. The only slight disappointment was that the asparagus was supposed to be served with a hollandaise or béarnaise sauce (can't remember which), but they had run out, so it came out plain. The rest of the meal was rich enough that neither of us minded. We decided to get dessert and both love s'mores, so we got the s'mores brownie sundae. The brownie was 'cakier' (if that makes sense) than I had hoped (I prefer a denser/fudgier brownie), but the dessert overall was delicious. A bunch of small marshmallows were on top, all toasted and melty, and it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Our server, Ash, was great - she was busy as the dining room was packed, but she was attentive, efficient and friendly. One of these days I will stay overnight so I can hike in the area, enjoy a cocktail with my dinner without needing to drive anywhere, and continue to observe all the wildlife that comes out during the evening. I am so glad to know that Red Canyon Lodge not only survived during covid but continues to thrive. I definitely recommend this place for the location, ambiance and food. Last note - there is plenty of free parking here, and after a meal there are chairs to sit outside and enjoy the view. There is also outdoor seating on a deck, weather permitting. read more

My husband and I stayed in Uinta 2 cabin. Perfect. So new and fresh. Very comfortable, clean and so well stocked for easy cooking for the 2 of us. Remember there's no grocery store on site so bring your own, which was fine. Highly recommend the new cabins. They're awesome. read more

Had an awesome weekend here with my family visiting my grandparents. The lodge is so cute and quaint. Love the log cabin vibe. Our cabin E has a great dock right at the front onto the pond/lake. We would get up for the sunrise and grab our chairs and sit there. Mesmerizing. Love the benches out on the porch. Water is drinkable and refreshing. There's a pull out couch. The beds are made every day which was a nice surprise. A fan in the room which was needed. Got a little hot at night. Couple complaints: we had so many moths and had no idea where they were coming from. We closed all the windows, but somehow they kept getting in. The lodge has sticky traps for them, but they didn't seem to care for them. Moths were pestering. We also had to clean up a dead mouse trap and then hours later, it caught another one. Yikes. Doesn't make me excited for bed time. read more

My review is about the restaurant that just opened. Now I'd like to preface this is that the place was just recently bought and also just got all brand new kitchen equipment. It had good food to eat the bison steak was great except they cooked it a little longer then I requested but the grilled vegetables that came as sides were cold and the twice baked potato was also cold as if it had been sitting for awhile. It looked like they only had one waitress working and a big group came in before we got there so they were kinda swamped. The tables and chairs seemed kinda small and were very uncomfortable to sit it. The place looked nice and I think they might've not known all the new kitchen equipment yet but I think once they work out all the little kinks from being newly opened it'll be a great place read more

Wonderful wintertime stay in a Ponderosa Cabin on the frozen lake. The cabin was clean and very comfortable, easy to find and spacious. Be aware, no internet, sketchy phone service, no TV and very relaxing and beautiful! The cabins are not wheelchair accessible, maybe other cabins/rooms are. There is electric baseboard heat and even better, a wood stove with ample provided firewood and paper, but matches are very limited as are soaps and shampoo, no conditioner and no salt and pepper. We were also unable to use our wood stove, only smoke would come out and no fire would maintain. Hence the 4 star rating. Even still, the manager/onsite person was very helpful and friendly! Also, no restaurant or other amenities in the winter months. read more

Stayed for two nights mid week and had a fantastic time. Our family of 5 stayed in a ponderosa cabin. It was a little tight but it was great having easy access to the lake. We fished the lake as much as we could, which my kids really enjoyed. The wood stove came in handy since it got pretty cold at night. We ate at the lodge one night and the food was just ok. There really isn't much of a choice nearby, so there's definitely a convenience factor in eating at the lodge. If we visit this part of the country again, we would definitely stay here again. read more

I love dining at out of the way places. Red Canyon Lodge is located above Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had lunch on the patio with a great view of East Green Lake. I had a jalapeno chicken sandwich. It was served on a huge roll with my choice of salad, soup or fries. Service is friendly and so were the other customers. After lunch, I walked down to the lake and watched people in paddle boats and saw a family of ducks. Nice relaxing afternoon. There is a lot to do at Red Canyon Lodge. You can rent a cabin, rent mountain bikes, go for a horse back ride or if you are really adventurous, take a wilderness pack trip. read more

Red Canyon Trail Rides Signed up for a half-day ride through Red Canyon on the last day of our trip. Harry was our guide, riding Sally the mustang. Wife had Pepper, son had Tex and I was on Big Dan! What a great time! Absolutely beautiful scenery. Little to no experience necessary as the horses know the trail and how to follow the leader. Couple of times you have to hang on through downhill rocks, etc., but that makes it an adventure. Wear long pants. Take a mask or bandana as it can get dusty at times. My review is solely about the lodging as I didn't have a chance to eat at the restaurant. We spent a weekend up at Red Canyon Lodge for a family vacation and had a blast. We stayed in cabins I-L and they were great. They're set up like duplexes with two cabins sharing a wall. Each have one bedroom with two full beds. They also have a couch that pulls out but I didn't check that out. They don't have a whole lot of cooking amenities so prepare for that. They have two burners, a microwave, and a mini fridge. No oven. The fire pits have a flip down grill. The rooms also have a potbelly stove that, according to my parents-in-law, is super nice and keeps the room toasty in the winter. Each cabin has a fire pit outside and they have multiple docks along the shore of the little lake. The view you have from the front is gorgeous. The whole atmosphere is very nice and relaxing. It's like camping with cabins. There's a small fishing pond for little ones that they keep stocked (bring your own rods or buy one at the store for way more than they're worth). Catch and release. They have a number of paddle boats, recreational sit-on-top kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes that you can rent for a reasonable price. They have horseback rides and stable rides for young kids. Make sure you book these the day before you want to go. We tried to book one the day of and it didn't work out. Great fishing is just minutes away below the dam on the Green River. Some of my family members went on guided day trips and had a lot of fun. I'd be happy to come back and would recommend Red Canyon Lodge to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area. read more

I stayed in one of the Alpine cabins here, and I saw a lot of room for improvement. Driving back to my cabin, I saw a few mobile homes that looked like some people should learn to keep things picked up and tidy. Out in front of my cabin were just some naturally occurring grasses and some other run down cabins, along with some unattractive pipes and stuff sticking out of the ground. When I walked in to my cabin, I saw the plastic table and plastic chairs, then I saw a futon couch/bed that had crumbs on it and under it. Then I walked back toward the bedroom and heard the floor creaking and moaning (which interrupted my sleep over and over every night when my roomies had to use the bathroom). In the bedroom, two sagging mattresses covered in some sad looking bedding. The mattresses were awful to sleep on, in case you couldn't have guessed that one. Finally, the bathroom featured a sink that was cracked and stained, a shower that needed some new caulking and corrected plumbing (hot was cold, and cold was hot), and towels that were frayed along the edges and worn from so much use. Also, I had to evict three wasps from my cabin - I don't know how they were getting in. Sure, the lake out front was OK but it didn't make up for all the other problems. Oh, and I encountered 3 employees during my stay and all of them seemed miserable - not a single smile or greeting. I wish I had stayed elsewhere. read more

For twenty years, this was one of the best places with an incredible setting, atmosphere, and decent food. Unfortunately, it has really gone down hill this year. We usually go with a group of people 8-10 times per year. But I think we are done for a while. On the fourth try this year, enough is enough. The service has been sad. The servers have not been pleasant. The food has been subpar and the prices have increased significantly the past couple of years. I complained a couple of times and they blame it on the difficulty of being able to hire quality people. Hopefully they can figure it out and fix it...because the setting is fantastic. read more

Red Canyon Lodge is a seasonally operated restaurant in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. We found the menu affordable and delightfully prepared. Our only criticism is the lack of pacing of the courses. For apps we had the lightly fried artichokes with a Cajun roumalade. Hot, tasty, but the entrees came too soon. For mains, I had the grilled salmon with roasted rosemary potatoes and sauted veggies. Nice! Hubby had the KobeWagu burger and was pleased enough. It's certainly better eating than anywhere nearby. The wine menu was exceptionally reasonable- a Columbia Crest Merlot for $19. Desert was a shared mixed berry cobbler ala mode. Great dining option in Flaming Gorge, and you won't break the bank. read more

Great visit on 8/25-8/27/2019. The cabins are fresh and clean and wonderful. The staff are super nice, especially the staff who recognized us from prior visits and chatted us up for a bit. (I think it was Gretchen but I could be wrong) They seemed to have changed their menu up, losing a few items off the menu while adding some new, but I don't think things suffered. They did get rid of their red canyon potatoes though, which was a bummer, but I see from my own prior review I had complained they were dried a bit. read more

We've eaten here many times. Our most recent visit will be our last. We normally eat outside, but it was a little chilly, so we ate inside. After we ordered, we noticed that the table cloth was filthy. Not a bit dirty. Filthy. As in, hadn't been changed for a month and covered with catsup blobs and other stains. We'd have asked to move, but we didn't see the waitress again until she delivered our food. I rotated one of our two tables 90 degrees, so we didn't have to look at the grosstaculousness of it while we waited. I went to the bathroom to wash some of the table cloth residue off my hands and noticed that the paper towels were piled a foot and a half over the rim of the three-foot tall garbage can and were falling onto the floor. There were a couple rolls of toilet paper on the floor outside the stall. The urinal didn't drain fast enough to keep up with the flush and there was a folded bath towel on the floor to soak up the urine and water as it overflowed onto the floor. It smelled bad. The food was prepared so quickly that it could only have been microwaved. There was a notable absence of the aroma of food cooking. The food was bad enough that we didn't finish it all, although we'd been hiking all day and were very hungry. The kids' menu mac and cheese is $8.00 and is nothing but a moderately-sized serving of cheap macaroni and powdered cheese, which was pre-prepared and presumably frozen and then microwaved. It was clumped together exactly like when you make it at home and leave the leftovers in the pan for a few hours before you throw them out. They served it instead. The chicken entrée was burned, but mysteriously cold in the middle. The sauce was also room-temperature. My glass sat empty for 15 minutes and would not have been refilled if I hadn't flagged down the waitress and asked for a refill. The flies. At one point there were flies simultaneously on my plate, my glass, the butter, and my face. My wife was keeping the flies off her food by waving her hand around continuously but I had to use both hands to cut my rubbery chicken and couldn't keep them away. Three adults and two kids and the tab came to $80.00. With the tip, it was $82.00. read more

SHOCKINGLY TERRIBLE... TIED FOR WORST DINNER EVER. My wife and I have dined at literally several hundred restaurants over the past several years, in CA, WY, WA, NY and UT. We have come across "sub-par" places in the past, but we have only sent our food back and left an establishment ONCE prior to coming to the Red Canyon Lodge... This was the second. We both ordered the "Angus" ribeye steak dinner. We knew we were in trouble as soon as the plates were delivered. Without question, these were the thinnest, cheapest, most anemic and off-colored strips of protein we had ever seen. They reminded us of the old artificial, processed McRib patties that McDonalds used to serve, only without the bun, and without the care that even an acne-ridden minimum-wage teenager would have given them. But the true offense was in the taste (and smell)... With one bite each, both of us knew we were facing the worst "steak" we had ever encountered, bar none. The menu reports a "demi-glace" accompaniment, but make no mistake - it cannot be anything more than a canned brown gravy mixed with overly chlorinated tap water. My wife, after spitting-out her first bite, fumbled for words for a few minutes before uttering that her steak "tasted like the smell you get in your mouth when forced to use a Porta-Potty!" As for me, I would compare it more to the taste and smell of an old, public campsite BBQ pit after you've poured water over the coals to put it out. I'm not sure which is worse. As for myself, I did try to find some solace in the mashed "potatoes", but there was no mercy to be had there. Nothing but a tepid, rubbery, scoop-formed allotment of cafeteria-style starch. Again, one taste reaffirmed to me that this place was on a mission to send me and my family further down the road to find an edible meal. (And once more, my wife had the good sense not to even swallow this offering!) We did not stay overnight here, so I cannot comment on that aspect of this establishment. Their cabins actually look quite nice. But be warned: If you do plan to come here, avoid the "restaurant" at all costs. Better to carry with you a box of graham crackers, a bag of radishes and a tub of Crisco - these three ingredients will build you a better meal than anything you'll get at the restaurant at the Red Canyon Lodge. read more

Everything we'd hoped for. A warm and inviting winter getaway in a true log cabin. With no internet or TV, the afternoon we arrived, we were able to focus on the peace and quiet; enjoying a snowshoe outing along the well-marked rim trail with soul-stirring views of the lake and canyon. The snow covering the red canyon walls is certainly a bucket list item. The staff even cleaned off the fresh blanket of snow from our car the next morning. We then drove down near the dam and rented skis and took a fun cross country ski trail down to another spectacular view of the lake. read more

Great little spot in Flaming Gorge NRA. Never stayed here but grounds are beautiful with several ponds and trails leading to canyon views and Visitor Center. Open lunch and dinner only with daily specials. Trout and fish and chips are first rate. Elk sliders are new this year. Desserts have very generous proportions. read more

We had a perfect experience on our stay here. It was just the 2 of us (plus our little dog), so we rented an Alpine Cabin. Very clean, well-appointed with comfortable beds. We saw more stars than we have in years. A highlight of the weekend was a horseback ride thru trails - riding along the most beautiful vistas of red canyon high above the Green River. Horse wrangler Mike, clearly a lifetime horseman, expertly wrangled 3 novices atop beautiful, experienced horses. His sense of humor, big stories and quirky personality made the one-hour ride a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The restaurant's patio overlooked the lake where we witnessed an incredible sunset. Overall, one of our favorite spots to spend the night on our 2-week drive along the continual divide. read more

If you are staying Flaming Gorge area, this is the place to stay. The food was decent (Elk Steaks) but the the service we received from the lodging folks was 1st class. Here's the story. Unfortunately, they screwed up on our reservation and managed to fix things the best they could. We had originally booked two night but for some reason the second night stay had been accidentally erased from the books (no fancy electronic booking systems here). Turns out they were 100% booked for our 2nd night so they called and booked us down the road at their competitor, transferred our bags and gave use 50% discount off of merchandize in the general store. I picked up a nice fishing hat and my dad got a really nice columbia fishing shirt. The rock star service was mainly from Mary who helped make everything right in the end. What a beautiful place. The cabins (Ponderosa) are spacious and appropriately and comfortably rustic. Beds were much more comfortable than I expected. Open up those windows and ahhhhhhhhh. No oven, so plan on cooking meat on the outside fire which, lets be real, is how it ought to be. Has a stove and plenty of pots and pans and utensils. Small fridge, so bring a cooler for the beer. They have ice at the store. If you don't want to cook, there is a decent restaurant. A somewhat limited menu, and no Michelin star, but pretty good and reasonably priced. Best plan on making reservations way in advance, because proximity to the Green River makes it a real Mecca for trout fishermen. I could spend a lot of time sitting on the porch with a cocktail watching the local eagle and ospreys fish the lake, and the bats hunting bugs after the sun goes down! There are few places more peaceful and relaxing than this remote little slice of paradise. read more

Best food by far, wild salmon, and a burger my 26 yo son raved about, of a score or more obtained during 2 weeks motorcycling UT, CO, & AZ. Great cabins, resident deer, lovely lake, and did I mention the first class food? And a mile from the fabulous Red Canyon overlook. This, sadly, is probably the best restaurant around, but order carefully and wisely and have low expectations for service and food quality. Husband got the elk, which was fortunately very good because it cost $33. The cheese dip appetizer was ok. But I got the chicken fried steak, which I am convinced was bought already made and frozen and then was microwaved - the side mashed potatoes and veggie medley seemed fresh and good. My daughter's fettuccini Alfredo was so inedible I actually spit it out. Son's Mac and cheese was likely a 69 cent box of generic stuff and was also a neon orange, mealy looking and also inedible (at, yes not a typo, $7). The side salad was very good, and I got it with ranch as they said it was the only homemade one. Service was friendly but very sparse and infrequent. The waitress apologized for ale service. We said we weren't in a hurry, then she actually said "it is a good night when no tables are mad at me". Not sure what that means. Don't get wine by the glass as it is Franzia from a box. The only good news is they forgot to charge us for a bottle of wine, but since we didn't eat most of the food, we didn't point that out. read more
