With so many wineries along route 116 in Sonoma, the competition is fierce and the fun is plenty. During the recent fall wine club weekend it was Dutton Estate Winery that received my self-appointed best-overall award. It was the most beautifully decorated, friendliest, best paired wine & food, tastiest food, and most important...(drum roll)...best wine! All of the Dutton Estate Wines are excellent--a statement this wine aficionado does not often make! We were so impressed with their Warren's Collection Chardonnay and Manzana Vineyard Pinot Noir that, despite it being our first stop, we spent our entire wine allowance. It was a risky move but by the end of the day we could say with certainty that it was a wise decision. read more

This winery grows a ton of grapes they posted they grow the most in the area but so did Balletto not sure who is telling the truth. Both wineries are fantastic! Really good pinot noir and chardonnay. I usually do not like Syrah and they had a really good Syrah. At the end of the tasting, we even had a chance to try their cider which was very different from all the other ciders we have ever had it was made with Fuji apples - You would think its sweet but its perfect. Our wine attendant was fantastic, we got to try some bites with our wine tasting and got a tour of the place! (tour is not standard - maybe it is but it made us feel special :) ) Clean bathrooms, easy parking and easy to find. read more

Ok, off the hook service and wines! Best chocolate and wine pairing that I have ever experienced, personally. Family run business and staff spent a lot of time explaining and detailing the wines. They had lovely grounds with both indoor and outdoor seating. Very kind to our elderly Chihuahua service dog. Did not taste a bad wine. Every wine we experienced was aromatic and had a phenomenal bouquet. We could have stayed for hours. We bought the Dutton Estate 2017 Kylie's Sauvignon Blanc and the 2016 Dutton Palms Vineyard Chardonnay. If money was no object, we would have bought a bottle of everything they had. Great experience! The setting is spectacular. Its located in a lovely older home that has been converted into a very useful tasting spot. Private intimate rooms are available as well as a walk up bar. Beautifully manicured grounds with several seating areas are perfect for tasting the delicious wines. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wines made by this family are great. Definitely a must go to when you are in the area. read more

My hubby and I had a really good experience here. The wines were on par with many more $$$ places we've been in the past and we shared a tasting for $5.00 which included complimentary food (Quiche Lorraine). Our pourer was a friendly lady from Austria and fellow lab owner and I had a blast. They also carry some Kozlowski Farms products for about 25 to 50 cents more than at KF's farm store (but much less than the local markets) so if you aren't going up to Forestville (or won't make it there by the 5pm closing) this is also a good option to buy a few choice Kozlowski products as well. Since we had just come from Kozlowski Farms we didn't bother with any of that but we did get the $20 Chardonnay which has a nice light fruitiness to it perfect for summer drinking. read more

So this was our last stop of day one on our Sonoma wine tasting adventure and what a pleasant way to end the day. When I saw the people leaving coming out with 2 cases of wine I knew it was going to be a good stop. We got there about 4:30 and they close at 5:00 but we never felt rushed. Me and my two friends were the only ones in there so I'm sure that helped, we got excellent service. The lady helping us was so friendly and told us all about the winery and the wines explaining where each vineyard was and how the location affected the wine and so on. And the wines oh the wines, I liked them all, I fell in love with the Manzana Pinot. Not only are the wines delicious but very reasonably priced. My friends actually ended up joining their club because they liked all the wines so much and their wine club is pretty flexible I think you can get as little as two bottles a shipment which is kind of nice. Dutton turned out to be one of our favorites of the trip, so glad we squeezed in one more before calling it a day. read more

This winery continues to make me happy! I went there because I heard their Pinot's were good & I was doing my usual Friday Wine Tasting with friends. Dutton Estates we decided to make one of our stops. We didn't make it anywhere else! The wine was so good and we were being entertained by Alex & Meaghan the whole time. Best part they paired it with yummy little snacks of cheese and chocolate! We did taste for free, sice we had a coupon from the place we stayed at (Applewood Inn). Had a great experience with a wine tasting and food pairing at an incredibly reasonable cost of $15 (waived with purchase of select wine bottles -- we left with a Chardonnay). Every wine -- Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Pinot Noir -- was delicious and the pairings were perfect, with recipe cards upon request. Friendly, helpful staff. Spacious, open tasting room, with many gift items. The grounds are also a nice place to relax with a glass of wine. Extra points for being dog-friendly! Skip the crowds & high prices of Napa. We had a lovely experience with the ambassador here. She was knowledgeable and friendly. I ending up purchasing a Chardonnay, which is unheard of from the Zinfandel lover! It is completely different from any other Chardonnay, I've ever had. It was fruity and clean without being too sweet, and didn't have all that butter like Chardonnay usually does. The only reason I can't rate this winery higher is the lack of true selection. The was a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Chardonnay, and two Pinot Noirs. That's it. Too meager for truly enjoyable tasting, in my opinion. read more

This last weekend, we had a great experience at Dutton Estate Winery. It was a hot (!) day, and when we arrived, they offered to do the tasting in the air conditioned living room (although the gardens were lovely, and had it been even slightly cooler, I would have loved to be seated outside) Being an actual house, it very much felt like we were kicking back in a family living room. Mike greeted us with a smile, a little welcoming blackboard that said, "Welcome, Sarah", printed information on the flight we'd be tasting, and a cool pitcher of water. Mike was so warm, friendly and knowledgeable, sharing about the family history of the winery, answering questions (even dumb ones!) with warmth and humor, and peppering in little anecdotes about his own family (his wife says the Manzana Pinot pairs well with Netflix!). We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious wine, kicked back for a good 90 minutes, were attended to but not rushed. We bought some bottles of wine and the delicious hard cider and our tasting fees were waived. A really fun, relaxing, delicious experience with a family that knows its wine, and values you feeling like a part of the family. I'd definitely return. read more

The owners used to be really involved and hospitable but the wife especially seems to have a holier than though attitude and now has 'staff' to deal with the 'people'. One of the best places to go in Russian River. Currently my favorite Pinot Noir and Sauvignon blanc in RRV. Incredibly high quality, expressive wines. And even though Merry Edwards has the highest rated SB in history, Dutton blows her SB out of the water! ( and at a better price point. PS - merry sources from the dutton vineyards for her SB!$ And their hospitality is FAR superior - very knowledgeable yet unpretentious and genuine. If you enjoy Pinot, this is a must stop. read more

we decided to taste the "reserves" for $15 with 5 wines. i said i would skip the whites (not a fan) and she said instead she'd substitute for 2 additional reds. awesome. the best of the wines was the reserve syrah, but even that seemed a little mediocre. their wines didn't seem worth the average price of $40+ and were not something i'd go back for a second glass of. they did have a plate of miniature chocolate chip cookies and the woman pouring for us was busy, but friendly. read more

The tasting room is located in a converted old house - very cute. It was a weekday during the holidays, so the room wasn't too busy and we had the undivided attention of the hostess - who was very accommodating and friendly. We weren't in the mood for white wine, so skipped directly to the reds. Our tasting included a few Pinots and a Zin. None were blow-your-socks off, but all lovely, food-friendly wines. Ended up walking out with a bottle of their 2008 Russian River Valley Pinot (92 points on WS; 93 point one was already sold out). Good find! read more

This was one of my favorite wineries in all of Napa & Sonoma. We were greeted by the friendliest staff who served us a cheese pairing to go along with the wine tasting. We even got a homemade chocolate chip cookie to go with the dessert wine. This small quaint little tasting room complete with lovely staff was what made this winery so special. We chatted with some locals as we tasted and took home a bottle of sauv blanc. I would highly recommend. This place is so charming - great wines too! read more
