I went to a new dentist and the dentist and her assistant were top notched. Months later, I received my first bill saying I owed them money which copay was paid at each visit. Their office manager promised to look into my account but since she never called back, I reached out. Long story short, they were billing me fees that was either already paid by insurance or co-paid. This year I went to another dentist, paid my copay of $65 and have treatment set up with them. Received a surprise bill of another $65 and the office gal said insurance didn't like their bundle so now I have to pay another $65! So, I found Dr. Choi, now the third dentist in the area and spoke with their receptionist/office manager. Let them know that dentist #2 already claimed my benefits and asked what they can do for me. She said they would do the new patient $59 for me. Honestly, the office manager did not sound "warm" on the phone and I almost regretted making that appointment. Dr. Choi came to the lobby and get me personally. I was upfront and explained to her about my frustrations with "happy billings" and also the fact that the front desk asked me for my medical and dental insurance saying they are connected. I told Dr Choi that I paid for my dental insurance separately and she understood and only took my dental insurance information. Without sharing dentist #2 treatment plan with Dr. Choi, I allowed her to evaluate my teeth herself and came up with her own plan. I was quoted $2400 copay by dentist #2. They got on my treatment right away with a same day crown and the treatment Dr. Choi recommended and paid a total of $824! Met two assistants and they are very pleasant, the office is clean and modern. The front desk employee/office manager did warm up in person too. Definitely give them a try.

Put shades on the patient when cleaning so no mystery bits ended up in eye areas. Does everyone do that? No one I've visited in VA does. "You've got glasses." "I don't like mouth debris on my lenses." "I had a dentist that had these shade things to put over them...is that so unusual?" Abella Dental, perhaps you've spoiled me. VA DENTISTS OF THE RICHMOND AREA: I have searched far and wide and have settled on a place that is sub par, at best. Why is it so hard to do the right things like shield eyes, not push un-necessary things, have offices that know how to change insurance info, bill correctly more than once, and not run in and out as quick as you can to move on to the next patient. I'm not saying sit and chat, but damn. More than 30 seconds is not too much to ask. It might be time to change dentists again. Anyone in the Richmond area have any recommendations? Before choosing another dental office I decided to change locations to see if that makes a difference and give it another try. Still not happy with the overall experience. My Periodontist Dr. Buddula who is amazing and one of the reasons I decided to stay with GD so long and after him asking he genuinely listened and cared and encouraged me to give the Redmond office another try. He is the only bright spot in my overall experience with GD. I really hoped that it was going to be better this time. Unfortunately, I can say I t wasn't. She then said, oh sorry, it just got taken by an online appt. . I mentioned, I didn't know you could book appts online? Her reply was new patients can schedule an appt online. Huh? I thought to myself a new patient can take my appt I was about to schedule for a tooth that was in pain from an established patient. That just seems wrong to me that an established patient looses out on an appt for someone who is new to the office. It's ridiculous a patient has to wait over a month to get a tooth repaired, especially when they are experiencing pain. After many negative experiences and now my recent experience I can no longer take this anymore. I've recently had 2 calls to reschedule appts as they couldn't keep them for whatever reason. Rearranging my work schedule to accommodate appts only to have to reschedule again. After multiple scheduling and billing issues and a list of many other issues, far too many to list here , I'm done! I was a loyal patient over the years but the loyalty doesn't reciprocate. You're just another name in their system. I have given them many opportunities to improve but I have come to the point to where I'm done and can no longer put up with the lack of care or dedication for their patients.

Very clunky and cumbersome intake process 2. Very unstable payment portal process mix of Dentrix (non-native Fintech) and some unknown third-party, which does not have reminders or auto-draw forcing you to share your financial details with roving staff via questionable security measures 3. Dr. Kim (male with mask) and Julia (office manager) are stand-offish and hollow, going through the motions, and did not make any effort to remember things as basic as: not scheduling appointments when patrons have moved out of the state, keeping a courtesy payment reminder active, updating Px about payment submission changes, shaking hands, or extending basic greetings in the waiting area. 4. They will argue away their avoiding of the Surprise Billing statute, by charging you extra before rendering the receipt of sale, meaning, if there is an agreed payment plan, the fee schedule is subject to change during the encounter if the provider deems it necessary to tack on additional fees-for-services rendered. They put you through the screening but use the built-in excuse that the screening tools are limited and things 'come-up' during the procedures. 5. The dental problem, despite the ~$2,500 tab, is still a problem, and seems like only a temporary fix was applied, to encourage a return visit for more services/charges to be levied. The tools used seemed functional and up-to-date, but beyond this the overall care quality presents as a place that has been gutted by turn-over, limited by location, and hamstringed by said personnel. Given the location and the personage mentioned, it would be best if alternatives were sought -- it is not worth the hassle or expense.

However, after several visits, my experience was extremely disappointing. What should have been a straightforward crown replacement turned into months of frustration. It took approximately 1 1/2 hours to remove a chipped crown, and the temporary crown fell off three separate times. By the third time, I was so frustrated that I simply left it off until my permanent crown was ready. When the permanent crown was finally placed, I thought the issue was resolved. Unfortunately, it also came off. At first, Dr. Yerra suggested the problem was my bite, which didn't make sense considering the previous crown had been in place for over 10 years without any issues. Later, she said the cement hadn't set properly and re-cemented it. A few months later, while eating a sandwich, I noticed something crunchy. My crown had come off again. By that point, I had already taken several days off work for appointments and repeated issues with the temporary crown. I wasn't willing to lose more unpaid time. When I contacted the office to explain the situation, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility. There was no offer to schedule me before or after work, nor any attempt to accommodate me on my regular day off. Instead, I later received a certified letter sent to a previous address informing me that I had been dismissed as a patient. To make matters worse, before the crown fell off the second time, I visited an oral surgeon and learned I had a cavity and another failing crown that had never been brought to my attention. As someone with significant dental anxiety, I was especially disappointed that a tooth requiring treatment was overlooked while a crown that had not been causing problems was replaced. After discussing everything with my insurance company, I was informed that I could file a Quality of Care claim. This entire experience cost me far more than the dental bill it resulted in lost wages, repeated appointments, unnecessary pain, and added dental anxiety. I cannot recommend this practice based on my experience. I hope others have a better outcome than I did.

But a recent broken tooth forced me to find some help. Starting right from my initial call to set up an appointment, the staff have been wonderful and caring. I explained my fears and was assured that Dr. E would do everything in her power to make sure I stayed comfortable throughout. My cleaning and initial exam was thorough, gentle, and hardly scary at all! At no point did I feel that my anxiety was disregarded or that I was somehow a bad person for not having been to the dentist in years. I felt that Dr. Etemadi wanted to partner with me to not only address my teeth, but to help me manage my dental fears as well. Yesterday, I spent most of the morning in "the chair" having some major work done (crown, fillings, etc). This was done under conscious sedation. All I can say is WOW! I have some flashes of memory of the day, but for the most part, all I remember is being calm and comfortable. I came home (with a driver) and slept for most of the afternoon. But Dr. E called yesterday evening just to check up on me. I've never had a dentist call after an appointment! Dr. Etemadi and her entire staff ROCK! Am I still phobic about dentists? Duh! Some things won't change in one appointment. But knowing that I can get through major work with Dr. E, her staff, and some good drugs means that I'll be back to finish the rest of the work I need to have done. And then, I'll be able to move forward with regular checkups & cleanings. Thank you so much!
