    Happy teeth, happy girl!
    Michelle P.

My daughter had her first appointment today. I was more nervous than her! Monica was the hygienist! She was absolutely amazing! She explained everything she was doing and made it fun! My daughter had a great experience and I couldn't be happier! Dr. McDonald was very kind and very gentle. We will definitely be back! Thank you all to the amazing staff, especially Monica!

I stopped coming last year after the practice dropped my Delta Dental insurance. I recently decided to give them another try because I now have dental insurance through Cigna. Before my most recent appointment, I sent my insurance information in advance by email and also confirmed it by phone. The office booked the appointment with no mention of any issues. I drove there, took time out of my day, and once I was already sitting in the chair, I was told that the practice had dropped all insurance and asked if I wanted to proceed, pay out of pocket, and then personally deal with whatever reimbursement my insurance might or might not provide later. This conversation happened with a dental hygienist, not an office administrator, despite the practice having administrative staff, and it was extremely uncomfortable. It felt inappropriate for a clinical provider to be put in the position of handling a billing and insurance issue. I declined and left, having wasted time commuting and attending an appointment that should never have been booked under these circumstances. This same situation has happened to me before and is exactly why I stopped going previously. What is most concerning is that all responsibility is placed on the patient. You are expected to manage insurance reimbursement yourself, the practice takes no accountability, and they reserve the right to charge whatever they choose, often well above standard ADA fee guidelines. There was also no follow-up of any kind from the office after the visit. No courtesy call, no acknowledgment, and no attempt to address the situation, which further reinforced the lack of professionalism. The office is beautiful and the staff is welcoming, but the lack of upfront communication, pricing transparency, and professional handling of insurance matters feels misleading. I am sharing this so others are aware and can ask very direct questions before booking, especially if insurance coverage matters to you.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a cheerful and welcoming staff, all full of smiles. The office itself is clean and organized, with a cozy waiting area that made me feel right at home. Upon entering my exam room, I discovered a lovely welcome gift waiting for me, which added a nice personal touch to my visit. Although I don't generally have fear of dental visits, Maria offered me comfort items like a blanket, water, a stress ball, neck pillow, and more--making the experience even more enjoyable. My hygienist, Camille, was exceptional--her gentle approach and calming tone put me at ease immediately. She maintained great communication throughout the entire visit, which I really appreciated. The X-rays were easy to manage, and they also took regular photos of my teeth for before-and-after treatment purposes and chart references. The cleaning process was fantastic; my teeth feel incredibly clean and happy after my visit. Overall, I want to extend a big thank you to everyone at Monroe Smiles for making my first appointment such a wonderful experience!

I've been going to Monroe Smiles since moving here 10 years ago. Today they insisted they needed…read moreto take my blood pressure before they would do my cleaning. After some useless discussion about what this was about Dr Johnson told me to find another dentist. Apparently my not just accepting repeated phrases like "our standard of care" and "ADA guidelines" was problematic. I was kind of insistent that I wanted to research what they were doing for myself. So I am now with a different dentist -- who is better rated, and even his receptionist was able to give me a sufficiently satisfying explanation of this new taking BPs of patients. Apparently it isn't some kind of screening thing, but ADA and state guidelines say that different levels of dental procedures have different rules based on patient BP (e.g. above 140/100 they aren't even supposed to do a cleaning). And they need your BP to know whether they can treat. Dr. Johnson or his hygienist could have just said that. Instead we had this discussion about my PCP's monitoring of my BP rather than my dentist. He should have just explained WHY it was medically important to assess my BP before even a cleaning. Unfortunately Dr Johnson and his hygienist would only say things about "standards of care", Monroe Smile's clinical processes, how many hypertensive patients they identify, etc -- and never just explain that Monroe Smiles would be negligent if they did a even a cleaning on somebody with unacceptably high BP and something went wrong. There has been a pattern of arrogance and poor explanations in the 10 years I have been at Monroe Smiles --- so maybe it is a good thing to move onto a dentist where even the receptionist can explain things clearly. (She even addressed my privacy concerns). As I age I have become more diligent about researching and asking questions related to my healthcare rather than just blindly doing what I am told. Often this leads to better outcomes and a more successful interaction with my health providers. Monroe Smiles doesn't seem to be a place where this is easy to do.

Debbie, the receptionist, is part of what makes this place magic. She is warm, kind, helpful, and so so lovely. Whether it's squeezing me in to a last min appointment before I go out of town, calling my insurance to answer questions for me/give me a lower rate, keeping me stocked up on whitening supplies, or just making me feel valued- she is there! Office experience: I…read morehave been a long-time patient of Dr. Berry and have always had positive experiences with him and all the dental hygienists who work in his office. They have consistently been professional, friendly, and respectful, and I have never had any issues -- until recently. Last July, I received a call from a staff member named Jamie (I'm unsure of the spelling) while I was on my way to an appointment. She spoke to me in a loud and condescending tone, accusing me of being late multiple times. I was surprised by this, as it seemed unusual for a dental office to keep such a record, but I chose not to let her rudeness affect me and went ahead to my appointment and booked my next appointment. Today, I had an appointment scheduled for 4:00 p.m. I live about 11 minutes away and left my home at 3:45 p.m. While driving on Bothell-Everett Highway in heavy rain, traffic slowed significantly. As I reached the light to turn into the office complex, around 4:06 p.m. I received another call from Jamie. She again spoke in a harsh and disrespectful tone, informing me that my appointment was canceled because I had supposedly been late to nine previous appointments. I explained that I was just on the traffic light turning into the building, but she continued to speak to me in a very dismissive and rude manner, and cancelled my appointment. As a paying patient, I found her behavior completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I felt disrespected and spoken to in a way no patient should experience. It is especially disappointing because I have always appreciated Dr. Berry's care and the professionalism of his staff. Unfortunately, my interactions with Jamie have been the complete opposite, and I can't help but feel that I was treated differently, possibly because I am African and speak with an accent. I am writing to share my experience in the hope that this matter is addressed appropriately. Patients deserve to be treated with respect and courtesy, regardless of circumstances. No one should be spoken to in such a demeaning manner
