The haircut I got here with Naho I really loved and will definitely be back. I also had my wedding hair done here, along with three of my bridesmaids. I got my hair done by Naho, who was an absolute gem and so sweet. She was great at listening to what I liked and didn't like after the trial appointment and made adjustments. I really liked the hairstyle she gave me, and the half up style she did held up until the last couple hours of the night. The whole team was efficient and friendly, and the salon environment is beautiful (and Momo the dog is perfect!). The only complaint I have was the curls, and to be fair I have pretty smooth, Asian hair that already doesn't want to hold a curl. But I did have a bridesmaid whose hair usually holds a curl, and we both had to redo them at the venue with a wand instead of an iron, so that they held better. Also, while I think the hairstyle looked great from the front, it did look a little bit odd from the side because of the volume of the half up look. It was straight by the end of the night, but with the dancing that may have happened anyway. I used Dvir Salon for my wedding hair and makeup. My mom, MIL, and two of my bridesmaid also used their services for my wedding day. I spoke to Shushana and she helped me gather information the salon needed in order to move forward with booking the wedding date. She booked my trial date as well as my wedding date. Naho did my hair and makeup. During the trial, I showed her a picture of an updo I liked on Pinterest and she worked her magic. It came out beautiful. I pretty much gave her free rein on the makeup and the end result was great - not too much and not too little. Naho is very sweet. She asks you a lot of questions and I feel like she genuinely cares about you. She also brings her cute dog, Momo, to the salon. I decided to get a haircut and re-highlight my hair a few weeks before my wedding and I booked it on Easter Sunday since that was the only day before the wedding that Naho was available. Once again, my hair turned out great. Just a subtle change but a much needed one since I hadn't gotten a haircut in more than 6 months. My wedding morning was a little crazy and I got to the salon 15 mins late for my appointment, but they were very nice about it. Naho took her time with my hair and makeup and it shows. I never felt so beautiful! The other stylists worked on the members of the bridal party and they looked beautiful as well. Ozzie and company have been cutting my hair for many, many years. Every time I've been, I get asked where I had a hair cut, and then the inquirer books his or her own appointment. To be fair, I should say "Dvir and company," as the eponymous Dvir is master of ceremonies. But my guy is Ozzie. Anyway, this place is 1) cool, 2) friendly, 3) reasonable, 4) convenient, 5) usually has appointments (though not always, and for good reason - everyone cutting here is a wizard). Ozzie was even able to fix what I'd done to my own hair after I did my own during Covid. He laughed at me, asked me a few questions, then we chatted while he patiently transformed me from a wild beast into someone my wife actually noticed when I got home :). I've had my hair done a few times here- it's very close by. The first time, I had my hair stripped of all color (which I *essentially* wanted but with a caveat). I consulted with them on the price prior to booking- and it turned out to be more than double the cost they quoted me - and on top of that a tip for two people. I was particularly concerned about the cost and the initial upkeep-because I was unemployed (and going on a job interview) and I told them all of this but I needed a drastic change. I went from blah brown to white; (to note, I'm a seriously pink person). Ok, I guess. I gave her multiple photos of cut and color- all having a faintly purplish, cool tint. I just got straight bleach until literally all the color was stripped from my head- all of it. No tint, no toner, nothing. No other processes other than a ton of bleach and a ton of waiting- I'm not sure why the cost increased two-fold. The photos of the cut were all similar: past chin length bob, slightly shorter in the back with a heavy bang. I have thin, wavy hair that frizzes out, nor was I in the business of blowing my hair dry every day so I asked for something wash and wear. No layers. Welp, I got short (above chin length), all over, choppy layers. I looked like Mrs. Claus went to beauty school demo. It required so much effort to look tolerable. At least it would grow out sooner since it was so short (and white). I eventually got an at-home toner and was really pleased (eventually) at least with the hair color. The second time I went was slightly improved. No color but a simple maintenance cut. I asked for essentially the same cut. It was mid-summer and I also mentioned the frizzy hair in the heat and that I wanted some finishing that would keep everything in place as again I needed this hair for an event. I received a wash- but no conditioner or any other product. The shampoo (all done by the stylist) lasted a minute- if that. The cut last maybe 15 minutes (bangs above my eyebrows, wtf?)- and the blow dry was stick straight- all fine if she had put some conditioner and product on after the wash, cut or dry. My hair has no color- it's the condition of plastic when it gets wet. I was even sweating while at the salon- and she kept having to dry my hair over and over- but no product to keep it in place. I went outside and the wee walk home my hair exploded from the humidity- and the under layers soaked from the heat. I live less than a block away and had to sit in from of my ac with a hot iron. This place is a perfect Brooklyn neighborhood salon that brings a high level of expertise at a completely reasonable price. The stylists and staff go above and beyond. I always feel comfortable and welcome here. The space is open and airy with a quaint but hip feel (and the open space means you are not smelling chemicals from various hair products and processes.) Haircuts for our family are always well done and my first highlights with Maiu... perfect! Had an appt with Maiu today and got a call 45 minutes before scheduled time saying she was running late and asking if I could come later. I offered to come 30-45 minutes later - which was inconvenient but doable - but they said she'd probably need an hour and a half! No explanation and hardly an apology. I wasn't available that much later so I was out a haircut. So much for honoring an appointment and/or trying to accommodate a (new!) customer. Big turnoff. P.S. It irks me that the salon will charge for a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice but they basically canceled my appointment 45 minutes beforehand. read more

Only good things to say about Dvir and everyone I encountered at this lovely Brooklyn salon. I initially saw Don who gave me a beautiful bayalage. However, this was too much of a change for me - I needed to be a blonde. I called back and was lucky enough to have Dvir himself work on my color. Wow! He was assisted by Keela (sp?) who was amazing as well. In fact, I also saw Don when I went back who greeted me warmly - I was nervous he would be upset. In fact, all I received was warmth, professionalism and hair that I absolutely adore! Dvir's words echo in my ears - "the most important thing for me is that you're happy." I am extremely happy! I had a bridal hair/make up trial here and it was not the best experience. I came in with pictures of an up do with a braid and was told immediately the braid was a "no" with no explanation other than "its too much". While I was getting my make up done the person who did my hair came over and said "I will see you on ---" and said my wedding date. The make up seemed ok during application but once she had finished she pointed out my grey hairs asking what I was planning to do with them and then asked what else I would be doing to prep for my wedding and asked specifically if I would be dieting. read more

I absolutely love this place. I have to agree with Matt D. that the place has a great vibe especially with the shihtzu who had pink bangs. Dvir is chill and welcoming. Naho (not Maho) is the Japanese stylist who did my hair and she did a great job! I first had a consultation with her where I brought her four pictures of what I wanted and she was completely honest with me about what she thought would work with my hair and face shape. She cut my hair in a non-rushed, precise manner, gave me her undivided attention, and chatted with me. She was great about explaining what she was doing with my hair as she did it; did not give me attitude when at the end of the session, I changed my mind and asked her to cut some impromptu bangs; and she said I should come back to trim my bangs whenever I needed. I found this lovely salon on yelp- right by my apartment. When I went there it seem to be very pet friendly I quickly acquainted myself with a lovely small white dog not sure of it's bread but the dog was very cute. The seating area is very well done filled with coffee and magazines. If you are having a conditioning done or are waiting for hairstylist this is a lovely place to sit down and drink coffee and read something interesting. The salon even has Wi-Fi. The shampooing was pretty simple and very well done. They have hot water if you are like me and only like hot water on your scalp. The hairstylist was lovely I really liked my cut. Very professional and was very interested in what I had to say which was a pleasant surprise. Overall a wonderful place and my new go to hair salon to get my haircut. read more

NOTE: Dvir just moved to 99 Bond St. When I moved to Bed-Stuy from Manhattan, I had to face the dilemma of finding a new place where to cut my hair. Since none of the barber shops in my 'hood inspired much trust, after reading good reviews about Dvir on Yelp I decided to give it a try. I've come to Dvir 3 times already, and I like this place very much. The space itself is nicely decorated, in a minimalist kind of way (which I like): dark wooden shelves by the windows with vintage blow dryers, nice, big, mirrors hanging from the white walls, and a beautiful wooden floor. The new space also has a Mac laptop computer you can use to surf the internet while you wait. The very friendly staff (Sabrina in particular) will always go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, offering you something to drink (they make REAL espresso) or to munch on (today they had chocolate biscuits on the table). Overall the atmosphere is cool and relaxed, easy going and laid back; very Brooklyn, I would add. A haircut for me here is $40, which although not as cheap as some of the places I tried in Chinatown in the past, it is certainly pretty good value given the quality of the service provided (my hairdresser is Dina, and she always does a stellar job at cutting my hair). read more

Amazing, amazing , amazing! After a terrible experience with 'Ludlaw Blunt' in the village, I found out about this spot (thanks to yelp:) and I couldn't be more excited. I had a great cut by Jane (who is no longer there sadly) and 2 weeks ago Dvir did my 3/4 highlights which were absolutely perfect. I'm very excited about discovering this place and very highly recommending it! Full disclosure: I'm not really a salon goer (see pic), but my buddy works here, and I try to support. It's a clean, well-lighted, and welcoming place, even for those of us who are not totally accustomed to a salon treatment. The receptionist is friendly, and this time I took her up on a cappuccino (though I read something in the reviews about beer... there's always next time). I enjoyed the shampoo and head massage (who doesn't?). Jill is fantastic: she's open to discussing options, looking at photos, and adjusting as needed. She gave me a great cut and I always get compliments afterwards. And as a woman with short hair, I will continue to object to higher prices for women's cuts than men's (70 versus 40). After being a loyal customer for over ten years, I have had to part ways with Dvir. The last few times I went to get my color done here, the results were streaky and inconsistent. Then, finally this past fall, the color was left on too long (which I was suspect of at the time) resulting in a lot of chemical breakage. The toner was also skipped without so much as a conversation with me. I feel like perhaps they were overbooked and she was rushing. I also ended up with one big fat streak on the right side of my part despite very specifically speaking to that and asking that be avoided since it had happened before in the past. I understand that everyone has off days but this last appointment was the final straw. I have since had to chop many inches off of my now fragile hair and sought out corrective treatments and a new colorist. I am disappointed since I loved this salon for so many years. read more

I booked my appointment with Osvaldo, who is a great listener but also knows his craft, and is great at suggestions. After hearing my hair story he got to work, explaining what he planned to do and why. As he was in the final stage of my haircut, he even stopped to ask if he could cut the bangs shorter than he initially said he would because they were in my eyes. I have been going to this salon for many years. I loved my cut and foils every time I have walked out of there. I have long wild, frizzy curly hair and Dina works wonders with it. There are clients with dramatic cuts/colors and clients with a subtle style, both look equally happy with their updates from the stylists here. The salon is always a warm and friendly environment and there has not been any noticeable turnover in the stylists over the years which I take as a good sign. I really wanted to like Dvir. So I tried it. Twice. Each time was equally horrific and I blame myself for much of it. I just went yesterday and told myself to wait 24 hours before writing a review so I could calm down. So here we go. Picture this - a few months ago I went and got a haircut from Laura. I made an appt and got the cut that same day with her bc she was free. Probably not a good sign. I had long boring hair. She gave me uneven layered boring hair. It wasn't horrible. But it wasn't great. My next haircut was elsewhere and the stylist gave me a great short hair cut and couldn't get over the crap job done before. I thought it looked ok at the time but it grew out horribly. I liked the look of Dvir - the OTHER stylists, the shampoo job was awwweeesome and the salon itself looks great. Laura. She was nice. She can't cut hair. End of story. So now let's fast forward to yesterday. I needed said short hair trimmed. Against my better judgment I thought I'd give Dvir another shot. I'm lazy. It's a few blocks from my place. I couldn't remember Laura's name at the time but I made last minute appt and got who was free. Guess who that was? If you guessed Laura, proceed reading. As soon as I saw her I wanted to leave but my stupid response was to stay because to leave would be rude. I told myself - just a trim, this can't get messed up. So naive. Laura was ambitious. she noticed my hair grows very quickly (literally 1/2 an inch in less than 3 weeks) and was going to cut it shorter and thin it out a bit bc my hair can get unruly. Fine. My gut told me WALK AWAY but I said ok. Then we started talking about the front of my hair. It was kind of boring, no bang and barely any layers to frame my face. Man...I wish I had a time maching bc "boring" is so much better than "hideous". So she was going to give me side swept-ish bangs, starting by my eyes. Ok i was willing. WHY, for the love of God do I hate myself so much???? That was my inner voice was screaming. Everything was ok until she cut the bangs. Above my eyebrows. That's not at my eye. That's like... my forehead. I'm obviously not the brightest girl bc I went back there after one bad hair cut to get another one, but I know my eyebrow from my eyeball. I kept quiet but had she looked at my face....she would have seen it all. Now, I dont know if she thought I was half blind, but it was quite obvious she screwed up and had no idea how to fix it. I look RIDICULOUS. I can't believe she screwed up a previously awesome head of hair and gave me weirdo bangs that my sister gave me when I WAS FIVE. It doesn't even lie down on my forehead, it was literally sticking up. I told her overall my hair looked nice in the back (and it does, but it looked much better before) but the front was way too short. Laura...in her infinite wisdom said "Well, you said you were good at styling your own hair so you'll have to work but you can do it". WHHHAAAT??? Yeah. I had no comment. I just smiled my panicky oh-my-God-is-this-happening-smile and although i wanted to get up and make a scene that's so not me. I even tipped her!!! I was suprised when she took the cape off my shoulders to signify we were done bc I looked like a hot mess. Seriously. A hot ugly mess. There are many things I wanted to say to her, but didn't. Like: ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW? Would you take a pic of my hair and tell people that you did this? Do you think this looks GOOD? Or even close?? So now I clip those weirdo bangs back and look like I'm roughly 7. I can't tell you how many sympathetic looks I got today at work, especially because just yesterday my hair was AWESOME. In closing - Laura can not cut hair. I'm so sorry I went. And I'm so sorry I didn't tell her this to her face - but she knew. She was looking at the same mess on my head that I was. She looked uncomfortable, struggled with it but didn't say a word and tried to say it was my responsibility to make it look better. I thought that was why I was paying her? I like how the salon looks but they don't have high standards w/their stylists obviously. I saw the receptionist, shampoo girls and a stylist look at my hair as I walked by and you better believe they noticed. An important lesson was learned so maybe it's good that I went. I need to trust my gut and be assertive enough to say HELL TO THE NAW more often. My only consolation is that in 2 weeks my hair will have grown out a lot and maybe then I can stop hiding those "bangs". read more

The worst salon experience I ever had was at Dvir about 6 months ago. First of all, the place is dirty. I knew it wasn't a fancy salon, but I felt like I was in someone's dirty basement. Then the stylist with blond curly hair and a thick accent (can't remember the name now) did not understand what I wanted - which was a really simple cut. She became very frustrated and argued with me! Then she yelled "Do you want me to cut your hair or not?!" I wanted to run out of there as fast as I could. She was so angry about nothing, and really had a fit! It is still so hard to believe how rude and unprofessional she was. When I finally escaped, the receptionist ran out to meet me and apologized for the stylist's behavior. She said nothing like that had ever happened before, and I should probably call the owner and let him know how I was treated. I decided to drop the issue but NEVER return to the salon. Then I saw the high ratings Dvir has received and thought someone had to warn people! Other stylists might be wonderful --- but steer clear of the woman with long blond curly hair! I was not surprised to find out that my incredible colorist/stylist had a background in art. When Agatha finished with my hair, I felt like Venus chillin' on her clam shell. She. Is. Good. Somehow, since she colored my hair, people are left with the impression that I've always been a golden blonde. Even people that have known me for almost my entire life. If that's not an accomplishment, I don't know what is. Agatha also did a great job with my cut. I had let my strangely abundant (but thin) and wavy hair get to a point where it was almost down to my ass. And flat. She fixed me up with amazing layers. Goodbye, malnourished Rapunzel. I got drunk (see the review for Enoteca on Court) and tried to cut my own hair, which is always a good idea. The next day I went to work with two big holes in my coif, which made me look like I had mange. I went to D'vir, where Maho, an adorable Japanese stylist fixed it, and gave me a pretty fresh haircut in the process. I don't want to describe the experience as magical, because that is just hyperbole, but there was something warm and fuzzy about Maho, the freaking most adorable shihtzu ever (who "guards" the place), and the general cozy bonhomie of the joint. I recommend it, solidly. Much cheaper ($40 for a men's cut) than the 70 dollar cut I got from Pimps and Pinups a while back, and identical results. read more

My plan was simply to meet my friend at the tail end of her cut, maybe shoot a few snarky comments while her hair is blown out, sneer at what she's dropping on a haircut (of all things! When you're broke, during this recession?!), just generally be facetious. But then, I sat down. I (happily) blame the interior designer for all that follows, for my aesthetic sensitivity exposed me to those background tinks and twinkles of delicately swaying light fixtures, that display of antique blow dryers in the window balanced by sea glass and dark wood. The entire layout being so minimal yet so effective- casual, far from intimidating yet cool and poised lulled me into submission. I'm easy, it doesn't take much beyond a good color scheme and lamps to do this. Of course, the owner is Israeli, to have such a low-key yet sleek space. Despite not being there for a cut and it being quite busy, being shoddily dressed and my hair absolutely screaming of its lack of care, I was offered coffee and chocolates and casual conversation until suddenly these words were falling off my tongue before I could stop them: "Do you have any openings left today?" They snuck me in, right as my friend was finishing. A panic struck, I turn to my friend, "What do I do?" Cut it all off, naturally. It'd been over a year since my hair was last cut, and by a friend, at that. It was long, wavy, with unbelievable split ends, and I am absolutely a dolt when it comes to styling myself in clothing and coif. So I had no idea what I wanted. Naho, an absolutely lovely woman, slowly arranged my hair for a good fifteen minutes before I was even shampooed, cupped my faced, smiling all the while, dragging lengths of hair back and forth until she delivered a plan. They must train everyone who works here to induce orgasms by scalp massage. The impeccably dressed Naho took two delicate, genuinely interesting conversation-filled, meticulous hours to cut off 13 inches to reveal a retro, off-kilter bob. $60 is terribly reasonable for such a cut. Every employee, stylists and receptionists alike, are generously friendly. There is no pretense, no ostentatious display of stylists' talents, just cozily delivered style. read more

I saw Carina who cut my VERY long locks to look like a short mushroom head when I specified I did not want to lose my length. It was 8-14 inches shorter depending on the layer you touched after she cut it. My hair was layered exactly into two parts (I dont know why). This wouldn't have been infuriating if I hadn't called twice before my appointment stating I have thick, long hair and would like a stylist who has experience with such hair. I brought in 11 pictures of what my hair normally looks like so that she can cut it similarly. She also straightened my hair when I specified I never do anything besides leave it naturally wavy. I called back and the salon was very nice/apologetic and Jackie was kind enough to take on the task of fixing it the next day. I wish I had been given Jackie as a stylist to begin with because she fixed it. It's somewhat close to what I wanted but 10+ inches shorter (after both haircuts) as a result of Carina not knowing what to do with long hair. I grew my hair out for almost two years. I could have donated my hair had I known this! IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR GO TO JACKIE but AVOID CARINA. She may do a fabulous job on short hair but she doesn't know what to do with long hair. With tip the cut cost me $100 in the end. 3/2013- A friend of mine went to this Salon and was given Carina. He looked like he was a balding 40 year old man after his cut. I also want to write in with a word of warning. I went to this place based on the Yelp recommendations, but I think the regulars are usually cut by the two hip Asian women in there. My cut was done by the crazy blonde (I think I detected a Russian accent?) woman. Sorry but I don't remember her name! I called ahead of time to request someone with experience with coarse & curly hair. My hair is healthy, but it's texture is unique and the layers act differently. You need to be comfortable with all types of curl to work with my hair. I should've run away immediately when I saw the blonde woman. Her really long (past her butt) curly blonde hair was frizzy and horribly unkempt. I thought, maybe she just doesn't have time to do her own hair? But then she proceeded to completely misunderstand me and try to inform me that spritzing my hair with water was a good thing?!??! Anyone who has ever had a slight curl knows that humidity is your worst enemy! I was very disappointed by the cut and had to completely restyle it when I got home. I paid around $60, I think. My next cut was at Hair Rules in Manhattan. Paid almost $300 to have a curl expert fix it. read more

It's my fault really, I went a few years without a bad haircut and got all my "hair is easy, anyone can cut it" so instead of going back to stylists I found and loved, I decided to try something new. I yelped up the salons nearby and Dvir came up every time as the best in terms of price, reviews and location. I did read one bad review of Laura but, decided to turn a blind eye as she was free at the time I needed and had some good reviews as well. Now, Laura is definitely nice and her scalp massage is ahmazing but, I simply do not think she is really listening when discussing your hair. I asked for a trim, nothing much, just something fresh for fall and nothing too short that would make my loose curls look odd for when I don't blow dry. She said yes, no problem and got to work. She was pleasant and wasn't doing anything too drastic so, I relaxed. Even when she finished and blew my hair dry, it looked nice, a little bit like the "Rachel" circa 1997 but still nice for fall. Then I went to a baseball game where the beer and humidity froofed up my hair and I saw what had happened. Not only did this haircut make me look like a trucker with a mullet but one with frizzy Jewfro texture. Not Good. The next day I did my hair and curl it as I usually do and it is just all wrong. Bad length for my face, bad cut for the curl and overall a bad haircut that will leave me untrustworthy towards hair stylists for another 5 years....Boo. read more

Hands down, this is the best haircut experience I've had in New York. The salon's bright, clean and friendly. Affordable and you walk out with that, "damn, I just got a haircut and I feel good!" feeling. They make you a killer cappuccino and have beer and wine -- and it's all complimentary. Amazing shampoo/head massage, which is always one of my favorite parts of getting a haircut. Jackie cut my hair and I will definitely go back to her. She listened, gave some feedback and then went to work, giving me exactly what we discussed. I'm sure she'd have been open for being more forward with suggestions had I been looking for input, but since I wasn't, she gave me a great haircut that was exactly what I was looking for. I tend to be of the male lot that spends $10 at one of those russian barbershops, not thinking anyone can do much to make my hair look different (still not totally convinced they can). But alas, today, I decided to buck that trend and give Dvir a shot at polishing up my look. I'm going to butcher the name of the gal that gave me a cut -- i saw munjah in one of the reviews below -- assume that's her! Anyway, she did a terrific job and was a really pleasant person to chat with. Unfortunately, she's moving in a month, otherwise, I think I may have found my go-to. The place has a nice feel to it, and I'm sure the others are great and equally as pleasant, so Dvir may have just one my biz. At $40 for a men's cut, it's quite a bit more than I'm used to, but with a nice shampoo/head massage and after cut rinse, I think it might just be worth it. After reading so many good reviews, I was really hoping to find my go-to salon in Dvir, but I was very disappointed. The salon itself is nice and clean, but the people are too cold in too-cool way. My stylist in particular was frigid. I understand that I'm not paying for a best friend, but I would have appreciated that little bit of effort that takes the experience out of awkward stranger-touching-my-hair land. Color: I asked for a natural, light coppery red (my hair is very close to this color naturally) and I brought in pictures. Instead, I got a vibrant purple-y red. It was pretty enough, but in an unrealistic way that was, as I stressed at the time, not an option for me. I understand that getting the right color can be tricky, but I am pretty sure that my hair color turned out so wrong because the stylist left the color on my hair way too long. In fact, she left it on so long that I had scabs on my head for about a week after my coloring from the irritation. Cut: The overall cut was nice, but it was a very simple, blunt cut on straight hair. Nevertheless, the stylist was very proud of herself about it. However, she was more modest about how she "really cut into" my bangs, which were way too short and choppy. Overall, I got a bad color that actually wounded my skin and a mediocre haircut from a borderline rude stylist. I will not be going back. read more

I've gone to D'Vir twice now. The first time I just took whoever was available after reading the reviews that everyone here was good and ended up with a guy named Jamie. I told him about my continuing struggle with my super (as in people ask what flat iron i use) straight hair and how i was just hoping for a cut that would look like i put some sort of effort into my appearance and not just the "bob" everyone tries to give me. He knew exactly what to do. He was able to make my hair look like it actually had volume, and gave me the perfect layers that didn't even require much work to make look good on a daily basis. He "texturized the hell out of my hair" (his words) and said that's what would make it look like an actual hairstyle and he was absolutely right. I was ecstatic! So the next time i needed a cut i made sure to request him. I was absolutely pleased yet again with his work and have since recommended him to a few coworkers who were just as happy with his work. I just moved from LA and I've been going to one stylist for years, but I was months overdue for a cut. I booked an appointment with Jackie after reading so many great reviews about her. She asked me what I wanted and I told her I wanted a trim with layers (a shorter version of what I have now.. simple!). She sent me off to get my hair washed, and when she got me in the chair all she could talk about was how frayed my ends were and how much she'd have to cut off. I said that's fine, I just wanted her to layer it. Length wasn't a huge issue. The whole time she treated me with a stilted attitude. She seemed more interested in a lunch menu her coworker was waving around than in cutting my hair. She also spent as much time "styling" my hair with a blowdryer as she did cutting it, despite us both talking about how blowdrying my hair was bad for it. It looked alright in the end, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. When I got home I realized how little care she took. The only "layers" I had were at the very front, angled to frame my face. The rest of my hair was cut to one length. She made a jagged cut in my otherwise straight bangs, and I had to cut them a half inch higher to cover up her mistake. I tried to style it differently each day this week, but I've ultimately resorted to tying it up in frustration and embarrassment. Who needs Ken Paves when you have Jamie at Dvir? Jamie is the most attentive, sarcastic, perfect stylist to ever take me from drab to fab. He was patient and helped me figure out how to take what I wanted and make it work for me. It was quite a process taking my boring, postgrad locks from long and dull to fiercely short with copper highlights. It's perfect. He will make your hair perfect, too. Dvir is my salon! Moving towards fiercely loyal, after more than 6 months here - I'm still so happy to go to this gem. I've trekked about the borough, spent way too much and got poor service. I've trekked across the city, ending up at Aveda/UWS, for still too much $$/bs (what was I thinking??). Thank you fellow yelpers, as with your guidance, I found my new (hair) home. Reasonably priced single process ($60? yes!), super sweet staff, comp treats and coffee, in an airy-yet-cozy space. They also graciously accommodate my relatively last minute appointments with ease. I seem to get a different stylist all the time, but no matter as I'm mostly here for color. They created and saved a rich auburn formula on file for me (which I love) and Dina/Laura/Naho have all done, all right on with the mix. I feel taken care of by everyone from the minute I walk in. I have gotten a few cuts here, all reasonably priced. One was kinda so-so in result, but I did ask for something crazy/not well understood, so no biggie. My hair grows out pretty quickly - and I'm not hung up on an odd cut, that I specifically requested. The other cut I got was 100% right on and I walked out all $$$$. Only downside was that it was a LOT of work to explain exactly what I wanted, each step of the way, even though I thought there was initial understanding. No matter - I walked out with some serious swing and a new appreciation for the stylists there! I always get compliments from Dvir! read more
