True artisan brewery. A spontaneous day excursion had us drive out to "Smallville" Goldendale, WA. Unfortunately due to Covid, the tasting room experience is temporarily on hold, as is the rest of the town. To-go orders on the weekend had us enjoy Dwinell with friends back home. They love what they do ~ not afraid to take risks and their experimental passion has honed their craft to some excellent quality sour ales. Fantastic wild Ales and typical beers as well. They have wines also so usually something for everyone in the group. The patio was very comfortable and quiet. After a long awaited reopening we stopped into this small local brewery to have a beer and see what may have changed since the closure during Covid. We think they've upped their game, but it has been a very long time since we were there last. Great regular beers, Wild Ales, delicious Ciders and even wine! Not too busy when we stopped in on our way home to Spokane. We spent about an interesting and informative hour and 1/2 chatting with the brewer about their beverages. Sun Gazer Pale Ale and Ashfall Dark Lager (regular house beers), Summer Blush Nectarine (Wild Ale) and the Pear Cider were all worthy and we even took some home to share with friends. Definitely worth the time to detour thru GoldenDale and give them a try. read more

Dwinell Country Ales was definitely my favorite brewery in the eastern side of the Columbia River Gorge. This brewery specializes in farmhouse ales and all of the options are very unique! In fact there were so many options that were so intriguing that after having a very pleasant glass of Saison Steven and I proceeded to get a taster tray of various other beers because everything was just so unique about the brewing recipes and ingredients here! We had a fantastic sample of a coffee flavored ale that really left a mark on me but all of the beers we tried were just fantastic! The beertender was very congenial and we had a nice chat. I would definitely come back and eventually it will be in the cards to return because our attempt to go to the Goldendale Observatory didn't happen because it was still closed as well as the nearby Stonehenge replica at Maryhill so eventually a return trip will be happening when these places are open and a pit stop for some beer here as well! read more

I rarely give a five for someone yet their service and establishment was more than a four. Little slow on the service bit once we were on their radar they did great. To be fair they've opened only two weeks ago yet they do a wonderful job with a large selection of beer styles, partnership with a local pizza place, and the opportunities highlighted on their website make certain you stop there in Goldendale. Someone was inspired enough to play piano. Others enjoyed the beer and awesome garden. This is the draw of a good microbrew in a small town. Bravo! read more

Small town, small craft brewery, big experience! The server was knowledgeable, the history display was cool, and the beers were good! I especially liked the Ghost town with Cranberry - a beer they mixed with a fruity syrup - an interesting combination and nice change from all the run of the mill brews. I am a Portland native, AKA breweries on every corner, and I have been to many of them. While there a some excellent choices in Portland, I cannot believe that Goldendale WA. is the home of the best beer I have ever had. They have variety that is both unique and delicious. The only beer that they make that I do not care for is their sour beer, but I don't like any sour beers so that is my fault, not theirs. Make a trip to Dwinell. The drive is beautiful, too. Pro tip: Should you need a bit stop, The Dallas also has some good breweries. read more

We had the most incredible experience at Dwinell Country Ales. The owners themselves assembled our tastings, perfectly curating a compilation of palette-delighting beers (with the tastiest sours I have ever enjoyed!). But the experience extends far beyond the beer itself. We were blown away by the commitment of the owners to their craft, shown in their dedication to investment in the local Goldendale community, in their close relationship with local farmers supplying their ingredients, and their passion for learning as much as they can such to create the most quality products. As my wife quoted "I've never had to throw beer away before". We took the ride out, picked up a selection of bottles and tried their beers. 2/3rds of the bottles were completely flat and we weren't sure if they were the brewing style or a failed batch. It brought back memories of drinking failed home brew in college when any alcohol was precious. Tried to call and ask about our bottles but never got a call back. read more

Terrible Customer Service. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I called this brewery in November about having my family in on 1/12/19 for my parents 60th birthday, there are 12 of us in total (9 adults, 3 kids). I was going to rent the entire space, but was told in January there would likely only be a few patrons in and out of the brewery, if anyone at all, so we opted for the "show up and make your own space" option, which was free. I also asked about purchasing pints in advance and giving out drink tickets or something similar (something my old brewery and many others do for large parties) and was told this was not something they did. I called again a few days before we planned to go in, to give them a heads up when we planned to be there (around 3/4pm) and to go over the details I had already discussed when I called in November. I asked during both phone conversations if they wanted to take my contact information down, just in case, and they told me there was no need both times. We arrived to the brewery on Saturday (1/12/19) around 4pm, and were surprised to see quite a few people already inside and that it clearly appeared another event was happening. I saw one table with a reserved sign on it, and had been told they were reserve a few for us when I called a few days before, so I went to the bar to talk to the staff and see what the plan was, there were three people working. I spoke with the female working behind the bar, I told her we were apart of the birthday party that had called in advance, and she proceeded to tell me she thought we would be arriving at 3pm and when we didn't, they removed the reserved signs from our tables. She also informed me the chamber of commerce was having a meeting in the brewery at 4pm, which had been planned for quite some time. Keep in mind I initially called in November, and again a few days before Saturday, and during both phone calls NO ONE informed me there would be another large group there, or that they were also apparently putting on a presentation. I also noticed someone passing out drink tickets to each person who arrived for the meeting, saying "your first drink is on us", which is something else I had also specifically asked the brewery about both times I called, and was told could not be done. Needless to say, we were all quite annoyed and confused. Understandably mistakes happen, but the fact that we were spoken to in such a belittling way, with an air of "we don't care about you", was simply terrible customer service. The female working did at least ask a couple on the opposite side of the bar to switch tables so we could have two tables, which they kindly did, but she also quietly explained to them that we were supposed to arrive at 3pm and basically just blamed it on us, while we were standing right next them. Again, taking no responsibility for the situation and again, terrible customer service. After the ladies switched tables, no one working in the brewery even acknowledged us. They all stood behind the bar and acted as though everything was fine. A simple, "I'm so sorry for this inconvenience", "I'm not sure what happened", or honestly anything would have been better than how we were treated. As a former brewery worker and event planner, I was appalled. We debated just leaving, but the town is very small, and there were quite a few of us so our options were limited (not to mention the fact that we were trying to celebrate my parents birthdays). The icing on the cake of this night was then having to sit through the chamber of commerce' presentation to the rest of the room. I also found out later in the evening the owner of the brewery was one of the people working behind the bar, witnessed all this happen, and again didn't even acknowledge the situation or our group aside from pouring our beers. As a customer service professional for many years, I highly suggest you do not visit this establishment, or even consider holding any type of event here. To the employees and management a few words of advice for future events and general customer service: 1) If someone calls and says their coming in with a large group, take their contact information. It would of been very easy for someone working to call and ask if we were still coming when we didn't arrive at 3pm sharp, as your female beertender informed me. 2) If someone calls over a month in advance about coming in with a large group, and again a few days before, and you already have an event happening, you should definitely give them a heads up. Had my group known we were walking into a Chamber of Commerce meeting, we would of obviously made other arrangements. 3) If an error like this occurs, your staff should understand how to properly communicate with the patrons instead of completely avoiding them and taking no ownership in the situation. Had someone had even a 2 minute conversation with me about what was going on and how we were treated, it would of resulted in a lot of less awkwardness and annoyance. read more

The beers here are spot on! Hard to believe the only wild ale I've ever drank in Eastern Washington was in Goldendale. Also had their Wit and dark saison, which we're all very good. I love the idea of local and fresh brews. This is not your "usual" commercial, dead beer. Justin and Mike are always mixing it up and Jocelyn has even gotten me to try something other than stouts.
