The Mr and I, along with another couple stopped here for a quick dinner. We were staying nearby and our Airbnb host recommended it. It was early so seating wasn't a problem. The Mr and I opted for the burger special which included a cheeseburger, fries, and a beer for $18.95 (I think) and S had a French dip, while M had a BBQ sandwich. Our burgers were excellent and the fries were salty and crisp - just the way I like them. I was only able to eat half of my burger. The next morning I regretted not bringing the leftovers with me. I'd have eaten them for breakfast. Haha M seemed to enjoy his sandwich, but S was disappointed in hers. It didn't come with any sides. She felt like she should have gotten fries or cole slaw. Service was friendly. The location is a little strange. It was actually tucked into an industrial area. If we didn't know it was there and have a GPS, we'd never have found it. I just had my 20-year class reunion at Bargeway. Working with Steve and Stacey was very easy. They were understanding of our budget and what we were looking at for finger foods, and they made it happen. The food was fresh and delicious; the crispy cauliflower was a big hit! Everyone loved the crispy cauliflower. Stacey, our bartender, came up with some "classic" drinks for us to have special for the night, which the group thought was great. The service was attentive, and the entire staff checked in multiple times to make sure that we were taken care of. Nothing like feeling special when a big event is happening, and the staff is still taking care of the rest of the patrons. We also got a few shout-outs from the band, making sure we were enjoying 20 years of freedom from high school. We stopped here for lunch passing through town. We were seated at a table outside with great views of the river. We split an Italiano sandwich with homemade kettle chips. The portions were HUGE so very glad we split a meal. The sandwich was hot with lots of meat and fresh toppings. Loved the kettle chips and the spicy coating. Service was great. Two servers were working the whole place, inside and out, and they were working their buns off to make sure people were getting what they needed when they needed it. Very cool spot on the river in the Dalles! We happened upon it when we were looking for dinner one evening on the way to pick up our boys at the scouts camp. They got us seated quickly, everybody was very friendly and on a nice night, it was just perfect to sit outside! They have booked indoor seating, with the majority of the seating available outside. There was a bit of a breeze off of the hills, which I suspect is there a lot of times given the water. The food selection had was pretty solid. It was pretty classic Gastropub type food. Burgers, salads, steaks, a very nice Parmesan crusted chicken, and some pretty solid appetizers. My better half had the bacon cheeseburger, and I had the Parmesan crusted chicken, while our little Dude was feeling less adventurous and had him some butter noodles. The winner of the night however were the cheese curds! We've eaten A LOT of cheese curds and these were truly unique. It looked more like fried chicken breading and it was DELICIOUS! Definitely something you should try. Despite being swamped due to the live music outside, things came out relatively quickly. All in all, a solid stop on the river! read more

Service was also spectacular; Easily rated 10 stars for Theresa. She was a machine, always helpful and checked on us so often she made us feel like VIPs. Their beer selection is also top notch. My father and I stopped here on our way hunting. First of all, the view was gorgeous. Right on the water. We were seated quickly, and the server was very attentive and friendly. Passing through town for the night and spotted this spot on Google--eating on a barge sounded like a fun novelty. Spoiler: it's not a barge. Just a building next to the water. That said, the patio views were stunning, and we had high hopes going in. Unfortunately, the food and overall vibe just didn't deliver. Let's start with the good: service was solid. It seemed like a tag-team system, and we were helped by multiple friendly and attentive staff members. No complaints there. We kicked things off with drinks and the kung pao calamari. Flavor-wise, it was fine--but texture-wise? Over-fried into oblivion. The rest of the menu didn't exactly excite us, so we played it safe and split a Caesar salad and wings. The salad was... a Caesar salad. Moving on. The wings, however, were a full-on misfire. Oily, heavy, and strangely off in flavor--like they were fried in sadness. I barely choked down one and then just stared at the plate like it owed me an apology. We're not the kind of people who send food back, but these were just not edible. A server eventually checked in (after a long stretch of us clearly ignoring the wings), and to their credit, they handled it graciously and took them off the bill. We swapped in an order of fish and chips, which were marginally better but still arrived swimming in grease. At that point, we were too committed to escape. There was live music on the patio, which can be fun--except the performer kept walking off mid-set and seemed to be guessing his way through the lyrics. Not exactly setting the vibe. In the end, we appreciated the friendly service and the great view, but when it comes to the food, this place is just... missing the mark. If it weren't for the staff, this would've been a 2-star visit. Not the worst experience, but definitely not one we'd repeat. read more

We knew we'd hit The Dalles around dinner time while traveling, so I picked this restaurant based on other Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint! I loved the pork tacos and my husband snagged the opportunity to have some fried oysters (something I NEVER cook at home, since I'm not a fan), and we both came away satisfied and ready to finish the last leg of our journey to the Portland/Vancouver area. It also has an event center and stage area for live music. If we weren't on the road, it would have been a great place to linger for more time! read more

Steve and Stacey were more than gracious and helpful working with our group prior to our arrival date on an affordable option for lunch's and working with in a predetermined budget. The menu offered a huge variety and everyone had great reviews on the drive back home. The venue and staff are absolutely incredible and accommodating. They offer 10 ounce pours so you can try more of them. The food was solid, and they had a lot of options. We had a salmon dinner. Our friends had a Waygu burger. After a negative experience the first time, basically unfriendly service and actually lack of any service, I decided to go back because I was in The Dalles and it was a gorgeous 72 degree evening. I wanted a burger - and their burgers are fantastic - and I wanted to sit by the River and listen to music. Bargeway offers all of this. Maybe it was because it was after Labor Day and the crowds have diminished to a manageable level. Or maybe it was because my server, Claudia, was exceptional. Or a combo of both, but this time I was greeted upon entry versus 10 minutes waiting at hostess station. Immediately I was offered a table outside and my drink and dinner order taken within minutes. Burger and hard cider were terrific. The live music started around 6:30 and they were great. it was a full crowd outside, every table taken - families, couples, friends - and just a great vibe. Claudia checked in on me several times to see if I needed anything and handled my requests (extra ketchup, another hard cider) efficiently and with a genuine smile. Stayed for the first set which coincided with a vibrant sunset. Based on this experience, I'll be back. read more

Service was great. my only real issue was that for my awesome club sandwich and a cup of soup plus a soda was nearly $30 which included tip. Bargeway Pub has a lot of really great things going for it! I came here to see a band perform, and I was thoroughly impressed overall. As a music venue, there are both indoor and outdoor performance areas. The weather was suitable enough for an outdoor show when I went, and the only issue with the outdoor band area seating was with the outdoor misters. They were in a state of poor enough disrepair and were installed such that they caused a pretty steady drop of large amounts of water onto the tables. This required strategic positioning of one's food items to prevent them from getting wet. The food itself was far better than expected! Portion sizes are HUGE, prices are low, and the food itself was truly outstanding! The lobster macaroni and cheese was particularly good, as were the French fries. The wings were disappointing...soggy, even though I asked if they could prepare them "extra crispy", and the waitress confirmed that they could, and I ordered them that way. Staff was generally helpful and friendly, with the exception of the bartender, whose job it seemed to be to ignore patrons at the bar, and to act as though her customers were a huge imposition to her when she eventually acknowledged their presence (which took FAR longer than it should have - I literally waited for ten minutes to get a glass of water for the lead singer of the band). I'll definitely be back the next time a band I want to see plays here. It is an 85-mile drive from my house, but it is worth the trip, so long as you don't need to deal with the bartender. read more

Servers were awesome, local brews, Weather and view were the positives. Granted, this is a burger place, but the portobello sandwich needed a longer marinade a few more minutes on the grill. The hummus plate was ok, peppers and olives were the star of the plate. Could use a few more veggies and do without the paprika-seasoned tortilla chips. Same chips with the chips and salsa, both plates the chips were stale. The view was great. The beer was fine. The food needed some help. I felt so sorry for a family, because two of their kids were playing (in the outside seating area where we were) with a doll, where dog poop had been smeared around and picked up moments earlier. They were definitely exposed forearms, legs and feet directly to poop contaminated areas. They went on to go eat without washing their hands. This is how kids get parasites people. They were so sweet too... As far as our food, fast service but lower quality. The olives and peppers were oily but ok. Obviously out of a jar so... The rest was burned or just poorly cooked. Please, if you are the cook reading this, google Portobello mushroom and make it like we do at home on the bbq even. Marinate in a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar and then cook for four minutes on bottom side and two min on top side. Really good and easy to bite through in a burger or sandwich. Thanks, but this was honestly disappointing (on a special occasion passing through the area. A ton of food, really sweet kind attitudes of the servers, but the food could use some improving. PS the kids chairs outside have black mildew marks and bird poop. Please clean them with disinfectant and do better. read more
