    five bottles of wine

Waving Tree is all about the wine. No fancy tasting room, no charcuterie boards, no farm to table dinners, and barely a sign on the white door that blends into the white building. Just really good wine at remarkably affordable prices. Many varieties not typically grown out here like Barbera and Nebbiolo. While many tasting rooms have a flight of four or five, Waving Tree was pouring from over 2 dozen bottles. It's either $5 a pour or buy a bottle, and all the tasting pours are free. Yes, you heard that right! Darn, why didn't we start our day here! Next time we most definitely will. So many wines - white, rose, red, dessert - that everyone you are tasting with can choose their own pours. Shannon is the server and she is so down to earth and friendly. She keeps everyone happy even when the place is full, which it usually is on weekends. Bar stools along a bar and a few high tops. Definitely not the most comfortable seats. Best to just hang at the bar. I liked so many wines but had already done damage at a few other places so I left with a 2016 Barbera. My friends bought Cabernet and Syrah. We all agreed we need to go back. If you are going wine tasting on the Washington side of the Gorge, start here, the furthest winery heading east in this area. Trust me. Take 84 out to Biggs then cross the bridge and follow your GPS to Waving Tree in the quaint little town of Maryhill. Find the door, go in! Then if you want to try others, go up the hill and head west on SR14 and visit Maryhill, Jacob Williams and Cascade Cliffs. That's a full day of fabulous wines. Your welcome!

Hidden gem. You get to Taste all. Excellent service. Hidden at the end of the road, with Jim's easy going attitude and excellent wine knowledge and wine descriptions. Warm environment with no pizazz. Just incredible wine. I bought the most wine I've ever bought at one place Highly recommended! Way better wine than Maryhill winery. Nominal wine tasting fee in an age when everything is overpriced. Quality wine at an unbeatable price.

Great wines - enjoyed them all. Took home Barbera Reserve and Grenache.

Terrance and his family know wine making and are passionate about it which you can tell simply by both the quality of each wine and in their knowledge they share with you. I've tried many wineries along the west coast, Oregon and Washington regions and Waving Tree I would have to put atop my list of some of the better wines I've had. The good part I found is that this winery is a go to for me as I know I will enjoy nearly all of the wines they produce. I'm more or a red wine drinker and their reds are all spectacular to my own individual palate. Definitely recommend giving them a visit. One tip: if you stay in the nearby Celilo Inn they offer their guests a glass of Waving Tree Sangiovese and also have a wine tasting package which you may enjoy.

We have discovered Waving Tree at the pre - Passport Weekend function in Portland and really liked their wine and their attitude. So we wanted to visit them during the Passport Weekend. Easy enough...looked them up on the map...are you kidding me? They were the very last winery in the Columbia Gorge. The yummy wine still lingered on our taste buds and so we went. It was our first time driving past Hood River and let me tell you, we loved it! The Gorge is completely different the more east you go. Beautiful hills, elegant windmills, the trees give in to shrubs and desert-like landscape. The tasting room is a cute little wood cabin and the winery is just past that, through fruit orchard. They have nice wine selection and most of the wines that we liked had this delicious spiciness...hmm. Needless to say, we became members of the wine club - our first ever, are we adults or what?

This was our first visit to the winery. We ended up buying two extra bottles to take home. One of those bottles had been discounted to $15 since it was a 2022 vintage. We paid the cashier to with our debit card and my husband put the receipt into his wallet, so I didn't see it until two days later when I was doing our banking. That was when I noticed we had been charged $25 for the $15 bottle of the discounted wine. We had even mentioned to the cashier that we were happy to find one of our favorites on their discount shelf. I called the winery on Saturday morning and left a voicemail regarding the overcharge for the bottle of wine. Then I went to Maryhill Winery website and emailed a message to their customer service. Later that day, I received an email from the wine club administrator advising me that she had forwarded my message directly to the winery. She had also set up a shopping account for me and when I added my information to the account, I saw that there was a 10% discount on my first order. I wrote back to her and let her know that all I really wanted the refund, so I included pictures of our receipt and the bottle of wine showing the discount price sticker which we were overcharged for. It's been four days and no word from anyone regarding the overcharge for the wine. I have no use for the shopping account either since I can buy Maryhill wines cheaper in our local grocery stores. We should have gone over to Biggs Junction and purchased our wine there because all the small grocery store's Maryhill wines were priced at least $10 a bottle cheaper than at the winery's. We realize that we should have checked our receipt before leaving the winery, but at least I caught the error and notified them of it. Four days later, Maryhill Winery's customer service has not deemed my request for a refund worthy of a reply. After reading other one-star and two-star reviews on their restaurant food and service, it appears that we aren't the only ones unhappy with their customer service. Needless to say, my husband and I will not ever visit the winery again.

Located right on 2nd Street in The Dalles, it's a great place to stop if you're wandering the various tasting rooms and bare pubs in the area. Since it was my first time here, I did the flight. The first wine, the Locomotive, had me with the very light taste with hints of honey and papaya. Not one to typically drink whites, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. On a warm or even hot day, this would be perfect. As I made my way through the tasting, I found that I was enjoying several of their wines. The High Tension, their club favorite, was a full bodied blend of Syrah, Merlot and Barbera. A perfect everyday drinking wine And good for parties where you need a wine that pleases many palettes. The other standout for me was the Barbera. Very smooth, full body and slightly jammy. Since I'm in a Barbera club at Cascade Cliffs, I left with the Locomotive. I'm looking forward to a warm spring day to sit in my deck and enjoy with friends. The tasting room inside is small and simple. A picnic tables and seats out in the paved area out front, nice on a sunny day. I'll definitely be back.
