I was visiting family and this was my first time dining at The Grill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although it's nestled outside of town, the short drive provides beautiful views of the Columbia Gorge from the dining room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant is on the country club grounds, however there is ample parking for diners and golfers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In addition to the formal dining area, there is also an option for outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had reservations and were quickly seated. It was pretty busy as it was Friday night, but our server was very attentive. Our table was served warm bread while we contemplated the menu, always a huge plus in my book! I'm a sucker for huckleberries, so I ordered the Huckleberry Drop, which features local huckleberries picked from the base of Mt. Adams, it doesn't get much fresher than that! For my entree, I opted for the small Caesar with salmon. Other entrees ordered for the table were the Halibut and Chips, Burger and Fries and Shrimp Alfredo. Everything was delicious and the portions were very generous for the price, I even had leftovers of my small salad to put it into perspective. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As mentioned, there are beautiful views of the Columbia Gorge from the dining area as there are huge windows. It really adds a nice ambiance![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This would be a great spot for a date night, family dinner, company party or just to treat yourself after a long week!

My carne asada was overcooked, dry, and overpriced. It should be cooked medium rare to medium, but it came out well done, and I couldn't finish it. I was really disappointed, especially since the last time I came here (about 7 years ago), it was my favorite dish. Clearly, you went from an experienced chef to a very inexperienced cook. It's very unfortunate because the poor quality reflects your business, and I am not the only one noticing that. Your change to save a few dollars is going to hurt your reputation. I hope you go back to using experienced chefs and stop hiring amateur cooks who don't know what they're doing. Our total came to $60, or $75 with tip, and honestly, the experience wasn't worth it. I expected better and likely won't be back unless it's a last option, since The Dalles tends to close early on weekends.

Wow Great place , clean and very comfortable atmosphere!!…read more I had seasoned ground beef enchiladas and my wife had the Colorado beef burrito. I do wish they wouldn't charge $2.50 for a very small thing of diced onions ( I think enchiladas should come with lettuce, tomatoes and onions on top) Service was also outstanding!! The margaritas blow ixtapa away( ixtapa puts very little tequila in their Rita's) I would highly recommend this over any Mexican restaurant in Hood River

Our experience contradicted everything she said. We were greeted as we entered and shown to a table with an excellent view of the river. Wish that I had caught the name of our waitress because she was very good. Ordered an appetizer to share. While enjoying our meal the waitress delivered a brownie sundae to the next table. We ordered one too. Maybe we can get back to Columbia Portage Cafe and actually try the food on the menu.

For an appetizer, we ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu Bites. These very well could be a meal in & of themselves! They were amazing, little, round balls of heaven! Translated- this means perfectly crunchy-coated, tender chicken, ham, & melty cheese balls that we dipped in a luscious honey mustard sauce! Our entrees were the Mac & Cheese & Cajun Fried Chicken, both served with side salads & fresh, warm bread. The Mac & Cheese had just the perfect amount of jalapeño spice & smoky bacon bits with perfectly-cooked pasta, and a rich, velvety cheese sauce! The Cajun Chicken also had the right amount of heat, delicious cream sauce, and perfectly tender chicken with the most amazing crunchy coating! And, the sausage dressing gave the dish a fantastic comfort-food feel! We will return!
