I wasn't planning on doing any clothes shopping on my trip but I had a workpants emergency, rip old pants I had taken. The store is on the second floor and the signage on the building can be a bit confusing if you don't look at the doors. As an odd size in-between regular sizing and big and tall sizing it can be hard for me to find cloths, especially pants. I had a mild heart attack when I couldn't find my pants size at all. Thankfully a super helpful employee saved the day. I told her my sizing and she asked me to humor her and try on a pair of Vineyard Vines pants that were an inseam size shorter than I needed. I'm glad I trusted her. Their sizing was actually what I was looking for. I feel for all the women with their vanity sizes now. Definitely made me happy to be a customer even though the price was more than I'd hoped. I did do some retail therapy to even it out and got two amazing shirts on clearance. read more

This store always has a better selection of items than the other DXL locations in the area, and I've been a happy customer for many years, buying both casual, work and formal clothes here at different points. The back clearance area sometimes has some really solid out-of-season sales if you go hunting every few months. I also appreciate the sales associates I've worked with who are helpful with sizing, fitting and pricing. In years past, I had suits tailored here that came out beautifully each time. The two stars now are a result of DXL corporate's frustrating decision to eliminate in-store tailoring. For a brand that specializes in hard-to-find sizes for us big-and/or-tall types who can't shop easily elsewhere, the move really undermines the point of DXL as a one-stop-shop. I understand that retailers had difficult, painful choices to make during the pandemic. But now that offices are reopening (and work-from-home sweatpants are being retired), customers are really relying on business like these, and I hope the company reconsiders its policy. read more

As a big dude this is my go to for most of my clothing. This particular DXL is my favorite due to good selection of different styles and excellent customer service. Robert is my guy, he's awesome and the only person trust with new ideas that I wouldn't usually try. It's difficult to find a lot to rave about in retail these days, but the Destination XL store off of Michigan Avenue exceeded my expectations in just about every way. Having been to a few mediocre DXL stores in suburban strip malls, I was hesitant to try the Chicago Avenue location, but I became a rapid convert. The store is enormous, spacious and attractive. The selection is truly impressive. But the thing that stands out is the quality of the staff and service. I've been here twice, and I find I'm greeted immediately by an informed employee who steers me in the right direction, knows their inventory, and makes shopping easy. They offer onsite tailoring, which is done excellently. The store goes out of its way to make things easy. When they didn't have the jeans I wanted in my size, they ordered them and tailored the jeans based on other pants I purchased. I'm a little difficult to fit with off-the-shelf clothing, and I've rarely had such an expedient, successful or pleasant shopping experience as at this DXL location. If you're a guy who's on the big or tall size (DXL carries waists 38-64, big sizes XL-7XL, and tall sizes XLT-6XLT), I can confidently recommend this store. The front door is pretty unobtrusive on Chicago Street, almost across the street from the Water Tower, but an appealing shopping experience is awaiting a quick escalator ride to the second floor. read more

They have great stuff. It's nice to be able to get something that fits. That being said, if you want the stuff you need to buy it there and bring it home with you. I ordered online and every time I've done this the items will say in stock. Half of the items are not in stock and I only get shipped half of what I ordered. I then called and said give me a different color on the ones that are not in stock and ship that immediately.... They said okay. Guess what? Those were out of stock too, and I'm still waiting. Like I said if you buy something from them you better do it directly from the store because they're shipping is a joke. they have no clue what they have in stock or what they don't have in stock. I would love to give them 5 stars because as their clothing is concerned they are a five-star company, but their online department is dragging them down. Recently open as I learned few days ago. Finally have the flagship store in Chicago especially in downtown. There is other stores in Schaumburg (Woodfield) and Oak Brook Terrace. The store is on the second floors in large space from simply causal to suit. The store is catered to big and tall store but they offer all size to fit your need. I'll come back again. This store is part of the Rochester XL and Casual Male XL line, and so it has casual through business suits, as well as an in-house tailor. It's very pricey, even on casual clothes that are house brands (ie not designer brands). They do have a clearance section though. It's way in the back, so you'll probably need help finding it. My boyfriend and I went here to buy some pants. I asked one of the store clerks to help him out and the man graciously helped us find what he needed. The rest of the sales staff were very friendly and I liked the layout of the store and the wide selection. I just wish their products weren't so overpriced. read more

I am not sure what it is about this location but I always feel out of place here. I thought the purpose of this store was to make me feel welcomed. I was downtown during Black Friday with my family and decided to visit the store since I was in the area. I wanted to check out the store since I received an email earlier in the day talking about their great Buy One, Get One Free Black Friday deals. When my mother and I entered the store, we weren't acknowledged by the employees but we saw them on the other side. I went to look at the polos and picked a few out. I was going to make sure the sale was worth it for me. Next I went to look for the brand of pants that were on sale but could not find them. I worked my way around the store looking and could not find them. Again not acknowledged by the employees who were working. I went back and sat down with my mom and looked at the Black Friday ad email. That is when an employee finally came over and asked if we needed help. We explained to him what we were looking for and he told us "We don't carry that brand at this location. And they were not honoring the sale pricing." We were in shock and ask why not and all he said was "We just don't but I can give you 20% off those polos." My mom and I got upset and let him know that was not going to work for us since we were there for the sale. We got up and left the store feeling really upset. I ordered everything online and now wait for everything to be delivered and hope everything fits right. If the clothing doesn't fit right, I will have to find another location to go to and fix the issue that could have been avoided if this location honored the sale. read more

I feel like I'm being nice with giving this place 3 stars. The Only reason why I'm giving 3 stars " and not 1 or 2" is because the merch' is quality, and they have dope designers in big sizes. However, the customer service is hit or miss. There will be days where I go in there, I get help, the staff is friendly, I make a purchase, and I go about my day. Other times, I feel like I'm being followed around the store, and staff are trying a little tooooo hard to shove sales down my throat. Breathing room would be great. I was greeted as soon as I walked up the escalators. Everyone was very nice and said hello. Rich came up to me and shook my hand, introducing himself very politely. The selection was great! They had so much more than other Destination XL stores I've been to. So many sizes, colors, and brands! I really couldn't be happier with the experience and much of it was because of Rich. He was so nice and helpful. He even offered to keep in touch with me personally when they get new types of clothing styles in stock! Not satisfied at all. I ordered 4 pairs of pants online to be delivered to my home via UPS. Dxl received the order and shipped it. They sent it via UPS and sent me a UPS tracking number. UPS then delivered it to my USPS Office??? Which threw off the original delivery date on original UPS tracking number. Really poor service on the part of UPS and DXL!!!! With my flight to Houston leaving in just a few hours, you were able to find just what I need, in my size (no easy task) and make alterations. All in under an hour - leaving me time to spare! 3 stars BL review correct. Been here & either too pushy for sales/commission or hawking like I'm going to steal. Oddly enough when i go in w fiance or fresh shave, Levis, tommy b shirt no hawking & sales push minimal. Been to other stores here & other states seems to only be prob @ Mag Mile so far, guess its privilege. I purposely check to make sure not my imagination. Let staff know not everyone wants unsolicited fashion pointers. Happened several times here. Maybe I'll put my platinum card on my forehead if next visit. For big guys DXL, Cas Male, Rochester does offer great quality selection that can be pricey. XL & wide shoulder guys should try it out. I had the worse experience ever! I went into this location to find my son some shoes for his homecoming. When I came up the escalator, one sales associate looked at me and continued what he was doing. I went to the shoe section and did not see anything that I wanted. As I go to leave the store, the same associate looks at me again then the manager looks at me, not one time greeting me. I turned back around and said to them, "I walked pass you twice and not once did you guys acknowledge me. Customer service goes a long way especially when I'm trying to purchase something." The guy, that I assume is the manager, blew me off! I politely told him, "to not be an asshole!" The manager then said, "if you're going to speak that way, you can get out of the store." Oh at this point, I was pissed! I told him that "you have the audacity to threaten to kick me out, but couldn't open your mouth to greet me!" I will NEVER visit this location ever again!!!! read more
