Several brands were stocked in a wide variety of colors, making it easy to plan colorwork projects. Prices seem reasonable too. Other supplies available include needles, hooks, and circular needle sets; embroidery and cross stitch supplies; a variety of products for washing yarn; buttons; books; table looms; and decals and pins for showing off your fiber fandom. Moon and Yarn is a great place to find offbeat gifts for the fiber artist in your life. Even though the place is well stocked, it doesn't look cluttered. Everything is attractively displayed. There's also comfortable seating as well as a large table with chairs. Currently, Yarn and Moon hosts crafting nights on Wednesdays, open to anyone who'd like to craft with others. And a lot of by Annie patterns -- love those bag patterns! Pittsburgh has lost a lot of of their quilt stores, so this is a bit of travel. It's an hour to get there, but Trax farms is nearby, and they have a pretty epic deli, and also just over the hill on the next big road V&V Scratch Kitchen. I have purchased a couple of canvases here in the past, but during my most recent visit, this staff member was so rude that I actually walked out right before making a purchase. They carry Penny Linn canvases and accessories, and while I love buying those in-person, I refuse to support a shop that treats people this way. It is incredibly disappointing--they even have an item in stock right now that is sold out everywhere online, but I would genuinely rather wait for another shop to restock it than give Beehive another dime. As a fairly new needlepointer, I just don't feel comfortable asking for help here. I used to come in for thread, but from now on, I will be buying online or driving further away to shops that actually welcome their customers.

I watched as the staff said hello to everyone that walked in the door and approached most of them asking if they needed any help. Two of them pushed past me to help other customers and one glared at me after I smiled when we made eye contact. After 30 minutes, I walked out. I have never experienced anything like this. It was definitely in the top two shops of the six I visited. When I was there, the owner's husband was filling in for the day for his wife. He was super kind and friendly. Talking to other yarn shop owners in the area, they all had nothing bad to say about Tonidale's owner and had said they wished I had met her since she is just as kind as her husband. The shop has a good mix of inexpensive and expensive yarn. That's rare to see in yarn shops. I think it gives the shop a wider range of customers, those who want the expensive, fancy yarn and those who are looking for something more simple. They have a very good mix of fibers to choose from. I remember seeing acrylic and acrylic blends, wool and wool blends, and angora rabbit (which was surprising), among others. I thought their prices were very fair for the yarn being offered. This will definitely be a shop I return to the next time I'm in Pittsburgh.

In the last year, I started to give sewing and quilting a try. I like coming here because the ladies are so knowledgeable and can answer my questions without making me feel dumb. It can be a question about thread, fabric or needles, they are willing to take time to help me. There are always new projects around the store for ideas. The fabrics are of very good quality. Most people run to Joann's when looking for sewing materials, but I recommend that this place may have what you need. There are no sales or coupons needed, but the service and help is here.
