Had my first trail lesson with Sean today. He was very different from what I was expecting; in a…read moregood way. He is very detailed about understanding the basic and theories of swing so my swing can be repeatable. It is like breaking down the "physics" of golf by bits and having you to understand why each bit is important for a good swing. A little note form my lesson today: Gear 1: body Gear 2: arms Gear 3: hand and clubs - They should be lock, unlock, lock OR unlock, lock, unlock. NO 2 connecting locks or unlocks. Stage 1: gear 2 movement, gear 1 and 3 lock. Make sure the swing up is above the plane (or above "water level") then swing down plane. Armpit is connected to the body and not loose, loose of arm and body will cause gear to loosen up. Stage 2: arm swing with hip movement finish; or 3 quarter swing. Starts with stage 1, finish with hip rotation forward, left hip on top of ankle (weight forward). And slight head tilt.

The honeymoon phase is over and I have moved on. Sean is good at golfing, but I think his coaching…read morecan use some work. As a beginner, it's fine, he teaches the fundamentals real well. As I continued with him, each lesson got more layered and confusing. I felt I was learning a tour level swing and it shouldn't be this complicated. At the end of the lessons, there was never any game plan. Just a "keep working on it", which didn't feel sincere, and he moved onto the next student. All the teachers there are in the $120-$150 range so it's not cheap. Spend your money wisely, and don't go for lessons every week. It also takes time and reps to get what you learned. I feel that was part of the problem, and was not stopped.

Alhambra golf driving range and course are an excellent place to start learning how to golf…read more The range has a shot tracer that you can connect to your phone to track all of your shots. It can get quite busy during peak hours and especially in the summer. There is also an area to practice short pitch shots and a sand trap. A bucket of balls cost a bit more than the average range but the shot tracer is well worth it. The 18 hole course is a bit better than your typical muni course. Greens aren't in the best shape but they are decent for the cost of the round. There is also a proshop with all you need and more to play a round. I highly recommend Alhambra Golf course!

The biggest issue at Alhambra Golf Course is safety, and it honestly feels like management does not…read morecare to properly address it. The driving range net near the first tee is clearly too short, and from what I experienced, this has apparently been an ongoing problem for years without meaningful changes being made. During my round I was almost hit by golf balls three separate times, including being struck by a range ball on the first tee. There were already dozens of balls scattered around the tee box, making it obvious this is not some rare or unexpected occurrence. A warning over the loudspeaker does not fix an unsafe setup when range balls are consistently clearing the netting. Beyond the safety concerns, the course conditions have gone downhill badly compared to when I played about a year ago. The greens were extremely rough and bumpy, putting felt more like putting on cement than on maintained greens. The layout also feels overly cramped and tightly packed, which only adds to the safety concerns throughout the course. To top it off, my golf cart died before I could even finish the round. Overall the experience felt poorly maintained, overcrowded, and unsafe, which is disappointing because the course used to be in much better shape.

Monterey Park Golf club is spectacular!…read more The driving range has a system where the ball come teed up from the ground. I don't know any other range in the area that does that. And there are two level. The course is in excellent shape. Greens are well maintained. This is a shorter course 9 holes par 29. Can finish the round in less than 90min. They also have a cafe I am looking forward to trying eventually. There is also a pro shop that is fully stocked with everything: Clubs, apparel, golf gear, and even a grip shop. I highly recommend Monterey Park Golf Course!

My friend and I each got a bucket for $16 and the balls get sent straight to your assigned, automatic bay so no more lugging around buckets and bending over to tee up. The range is clean, well-lit, well-kept, with seating for each bay. Mats are also in decent condition. Unfortunately, we weren't told of a 1-hour time limit when we paid so my friend and I each lost ~25 balls when we were cut off. Perhaps they made announcements about this via the loudspeaker but it all just sounded muffled and I could barely hear. Only found out about the limit when the balls stopped appearing and I questioned staff. Besides that, I had a great experience and will be back with the time limit in mind.

Brian knows how to analyze your swing faults and demonstrate the right feels to get your body moving as it should. During our first lesson he was able to break down each of my swings on video and explain what I needed to work on. He's was open-minded and flexible to how I needed to learn. I've worked with other PGA teaching professionals and I haven't experienced immediate results as I've done with Brian. I'm really excited to see how my game will improve.

Brian is a magician - they don't call him the Swing Doctor for nothing…read more After years of being self-taught I found myself stuck in the mid 80s and was referred to Brian as my first golf coach. On the first day we met, I told him my goal was to break 80 and wasn't looking for a complete overhaul of my swing. The one thing I noticed with Brian is that he's looking to work with you rather than having a single way of teaching things. We quickly determined I was more of a 'feel vs real' player rather than a technical player so he stopped showing my videos of down the line with hand positions and worked on what I should be feeling to get the proper ball flight. He's attentive, responsive, friendly and professional and most importantly, is invested in you getting better as a player. Less than a year later, I just shot a PR of 77! If you're looking for lessons, I can't recommend Brian enough.
