"It's just apartment house sense It's like apartment house…read morerents Remember: one man's ceiling Is another man's floor" (Paul Simon) Things started off so well With Cook & Kozlak. We wanted to replace the bedroom carpet and thought we'd deal with a local company instead of a big box store. The showroom at Cook & Kozlak had a big selection of carpet styles and quality. Christine walked us through some selections in the color family we liked, and gave is a few sample boards to take home and ponder on. After we selected the carpet, Sam came out to measure up the room and prepare the final estimate. He was very personable and professional. A few days later we received a phone call to schedule the installation and we agreed to Monday at 9:00. That never happened. I called at 9:30, and was told the crew was running late and they would be here between 10:00 and 10:30. When the crew did arrive, there was no explanatiion and no apology - so I'm not sure they knew we were promised 9:00? Had I not called at 9:30, I doubt we would have learned of the new time until they rang the door bell. The install went fairly smooth, but there were a few minor issues. The most serious was that I didn't like the way the carpet rubbed against the closet bypass doors. That wasn't met with much of a response except for "you may have to shave down the door".

So very disappointed! This was a multi-month long granite countertop purchase and installation…read moreprocess. Paid downpayment on 8/3. Template made 10/3. Install on 10/13 (one day late). I am attaching photos. I was excited when a man about 70ish came to do the initial measurements. I had no doubt he was a master craftsman and was thrilled. But the template was made by, I think his son. He aslo did the install. His sister called the night before he was supposed to be installing, that he was sick so it was installed a day later than agreed upon which messed up a plumber. I inspected the job before I cut the check. Only because I mentioned these problems did he confess to them. He would have left without pointing them out. I paid the full price which makes me incredibly gullible. You can see the gap of over an inch from the granite to the west side wall. You can also see where they cut into a wooden chair rail too far on the edge of the eastern side. The heartbreaker was that the puppy didn't match the grain on the two opposing ends. The center piece (sink) was laid east to west but the two side counters were cut north to south. I expected the grain to be in one direction as we bought a huge slab. The edge of the east block to the north/south block isn't flush. It was a poor job that I waited for since August (July if you count our going to the stoneyard in Windsor). I've wanted a granite countertop my whole adult life and was in tears after they left because it cost a fortune and wasn't done well. It was a poor job that cost a fortune and took months. I CANNOT RECOMMEND as the son is more an apprentice who should learn more from his elder/master before being given his own install.

Where to begin with this company. We hired them in 2024 to Epoxy our garage floor. The sales rep…read morecame out and gave us a quote and a discount if we paid a deposit on the spot. We were upfront that another company said our floor was not a good candidate for epoxy due to moisture so we told her that and questioned the warranty. The sales rep called her boss and had a conversation with him and sent him pictures of our floor and guaranteed us our floor would not fail, and that the warranty covers it 100%. They did a great job and it looked great! We even gave their information to 2 additional customers that had their floors epoxied by them. Well, within 2 months our floor started having rust bubbles pop up which was moisture coming up through the floor. We called since it was $5000 and we were told that it was because we had so much rain that season and to see what happens in a few months. A few months go by, and the floor had gotten worse instead of better. We called again and this time the owner, Dave, said he would come out to discuss our options but didn't. Another few months later Craig, another owner, let us know Dave had issues outside of work which is why he didn't respond so he came out to discuss our options. We were told that although it shouldn't have happened, they would re-do the floor with more pressure so it was a guarantee it wouldn't fail this time. He then asked us to pay an additional $1500 to cover the cost of the material. What kind of warranty is that?! My husband, who is the nicest guy on planet earth agreed because he didn't want a small business to lose money. I was extremely upset seeing that we already spent $5000 for a "guaranteed" floor that failed in 2 months and had been requesting it to be fixed for a year now. We confirmed a date, took work off, emptied out our garage AGAIN....and they didn't show up. They pushed off our date and came a few days later. We had a different crew this time and an employee fainted on the job. One of the employees left to take her to the hospital and they came back another day. Very scary! Well, the new floor looked great again.... for less than 1 month. We reached out immediately that we were having the same issue and Craig said he needed to loop in the manufacturer because the floor shouldn't have failed. That was a YEAR ago. We never heard anything from Craig or Dave so I asked my husband to follow up in May 2026 since our floor is now completely covered in these brown rust colored wet bubbled moisture spots. Craig "read" the text and never responded. I decided to get involved at this point. I have reached out and left messages for both Dave & Craig. Neither have returned my calls or texts. I am beyond angry at this point. $8000 for a floor that was guaranteed not to fail and a warranty to back that up, two separate times. I DO NOT recommend this company and I wish I didn't send them additional business. Let's hope whoever gets their floors done by them doesn't have an issue because their warranty is a joke. See pics of floors and texts to both owners with dates.

I drove up to the CT Home Show today (3/7/26) to speak with them directly and there was nobody at their booth! I talked with a painter that they shared the booth space with who couldn't account for the absence, but told me if if I left my info that they would have someone text me while I was on the show floor. I never got a text, but later learned that American Poly did get my info and never bothered to use it. Instead, I saw the owner milling around the floor chatting with other nearby vendors and blowing me off completely. Thanks! You cost me $12.00 entry and $10.00 parking for nothing. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to speak with one of your competitors and hired them.
