Dad had a racecar shop, which was added on sometime in about 1969, just past the original tire shop, and a large tire yard behind a 6-ft wood fence. That is where Dad kept my horse, Big Red, a very tall, very old sorrel gelding. My pet goat Becky was there with him to keep him company. It was common to pull into the business parking lot and see Red's giant head resting on top of the fence, and Becky standing on a pile of tires, right beside him.. I actually used to ride him in the big fields full of milk thistle (his favorite snack) which were just beyond the shop., where McHenry turned into flat farmland and emptiness. The last time I was there, I barely recognized the area, but there was that familiar sign.
