Best rib tips!!! I drive from Monroe,LA just to enjoy E&L Barbeque. Be prepared to wait in line! It is still worth the wait.

I'm not a big barbecue fan but when it comes to E&L I'm always up for it. This isn't a place to be cute and go out to but I mean you're eating bbq so it shouldn't have to be. I usually get the rib tips and they are soo good! Comes with hella sauce and even if you say no sauce you're usually gonna get sauce on the fries anyway. lol The customer service always surprises me because they're all so professional and nice. Just all around good vibes like you're at a family cookout. Plus the food portions are rather large. You'll be full for sure. read more

Good links, ok ribs, and pass on the limp/soggy fries. Go with sauce on the side unless you like everything covered in a sweet sauce.

Amount of food you get for what you pay is decent. The ribs were tender, but a little salty.

To say I was disappointed would be an overstatement. I am giving this three stars only because the rest of my family enjoyed the pulled pork sandwiches. I on the other hand had the rib tips and links. Bad! Dry, no flavor. Link was so dry, I could not have eaten it without the sauces. We drove out of our way to try this "Awesome" spot. read more

If there is one place you must try while you're in Jackson Ms. It's a restaurant on Bailey Ave!! This place has been in the same location for years and the food remains the same just plain ole good!! -E&L BBQ Menu with a good variety the chicken wings with fries sauce on both is just the best you can get in the South. I stopped by E & L when I stayed the night in Jackson. A friend had highly recommended this establishment so I decided to give it a try. After driving from East Texas, I'm not going to lie I wanted a restaurant. E & L is not that. E & L is a wait in a long line, stand around in a hot room, take your food and go place. As I said, I am not a local and I'm not going to complain about the location (which is in an area of town that could use a little pick me up) or my wait. I tried to order the pulled pork, they didn't have it so I settled for the rib plater,and it was drenched in sauce which was delicious. I did have one rather large problem with the location. The place was a mess. There was stuff dropping from the ceiling, the walls were filthy. My original plan was to sit and enjoy my meal there, but the tables and booths looked like they hadn't been wiped down all day. If it wasn't for that, my dinning experience would have been wonderful. read more

Traveling through Jackson with the family and hubby wanted some "real" barbeque. Used Yelp to find this one and it IS the real deal! Very meaty ribs, great sauce! Wow, I just tasted the tips of heaven, there is so much flavor in these rib tips that I know I can taste them next week and it's not even here yet. Everytime I'm in Jackson I will be eating here!! I don't know why everyone is so afraid of a place that has a security guard. Yes the neighborhood has lots of vacant/damaged buildings, but it also has lots of people just trying to get by in life; also, after going to a candy store in Cuidad Juaréz with a real armed guard (AK-47 and a .45 sidearm at the door and in the store) the security here didn't really seem like that big of a deal. E&L was unbelievable! I came home to visit my family and wanted to eat some good BBQ. There is no doubt that this was the place to find it. We ordered way more than we needed, but no one complained about the left-overs. The ribs were phenomenal and the wings we absolutely amazing. I will definitely head here the next time I'm in town. I can't believe I haven't reviewed E&L yet. We live in Memphis and this is by far my favorite place for ribs anywhere. I have never had a bad rack and they are good even cold days later. That is a good sign. Yes - the atmosphere may not be as comfortable as say a Ruth's Chris steakhouse, but good ribs usually aren't found at fancy steakhouses. To preface this, the barbecue sauce was great...unless you prefer a thicker sauce. For the actual meal, I got the rib ends. Half of it fell off the bone, the other half was slightly overcooked. Absolutely nothing like they used to be! I grew up eating here over the years and the bigger they got the more corners they've cut. The link sausage and fries are still on point. It's my favorite barbecue by far in the state of Mississipi & don't forget to tell them that you want sauce on the fries. Many may not know but you can get a very large container of their sauce (believe it's a half gallon) for a very reasonable price. Their polish sauce & hot links are great as well. I'm a transplant from Chicago for a little over a year now. I was turned on to E&L when I first got here (Jackson). I told my wife that this is the spot. They beat Chicago ribs hands down. Then I found out that the original owner was from Chicago. That explains everything The sauce has that not too smokey taste with a hint of sweetness and hickory flavor. The potato salad is delicious with the potatoes just soft enough but not mushy. These are the REAL hot links; not some smoked or Italian sausage. I was told not to go to Bailey street after dark but for bbq, it's worth the trip plus never had a problem over there anyway. Skimping on the servings a little but my advise is keep the servings, increase the price (but not too much). read more

Fist off I'm a native Mississippian. For the most part the food here is dismal and that's including local joints as well the nationwide chain eateries! It's rather ironic considering we're the 'fattest" state in the country. Quite frankly I'am taken aback as to how some of these places keep their doors open for so long . Which brings me to E&L BBQ. I first ate here in '94 when the original owners still owned the joint but the change of ownership didn't waver my opinion. That unwavered opinion of mine is that the food here is subpar. Mind you each time I've ever eaten E&L it was at the expense of someone else and the eating usually includes a prelude of said person telling me I'm wrong about the food. Over the years I've had the ribs, rib tips, sausage, and various sides. All of the meats were burnt and not the nice bark that some may like on their bbq kind of burt! The ribs and rib tips were also chewy and fatty. My reasoning for such a harsh review is that if you were to ask a local for a great bbq joint, E&L would certainly be 1 of 3 responses. Never gets my order wrong. I can gobble the fries with BBQ sauce non stop if i had the opportunity. I am a fan of the wings and fries, all drenched in the BBQ sauce. This is some of the best bbq!!!! We are from Detroit and while we were in Jackson to drop my nephew off to college, we drove around. Funny thing is, we had on the air conditioning with the windows up and we could smell the bbq before we got to the building! The staff was very polite, the servings were more than enough and we have been back each visit to Jackson. I have recommended it to everyone I know that goes through Mississippi!!!! E & L is the best barbeque joint in the city of Jackson. The wings dipped and sauce on the fries is outstanding but the most spectacular item that they serve to me are their homemade hot links. You can't get them any other place. So good it will definitely make you think about slapping your mom. Their rib tips are great also.
