I especially loved that you can customize both the sweetness and ice level, so it was easy to make the drinks just the way we like them. As someone who usually orders drinks less sweet, I really appreciated having that option. The staff were friendly, service was quick, and ordering was easy through the self-service iPad at the entrance. Came to E-Tea on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy with a short wait. They have a huge menu that you order from on a kiosk and it was less than a 5 minute wait. I tried the creme brulee milk tea but it didn't taste like anything just tasted like sweet milk. They were really kind and let me swap it out for a rose tea milk. Slightly more flavorful but still very muted. I'd be willing to try another flavor but both of my flavors were weak and overwhelmingly milk forward. Great customer service though! Friendly staff and in a good location. Probably a little more expensive than most boba shops but the cup you get is a very sturdy plastic and seemed reusable. They have some outdoor seating for the summer time but no indoor seating if the weather is poor so keep that in mind! read more

I ordered some brown sugar boba and it was underwhelming. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it wasn't giving fresh brown sugar. The boba was pretty bland too. Maybe it was because we went an hour before closing. The Taro Smoothie tasted good, not too watery nor artificial. The Dream of Sakura dessert looks cool, but it's nothing special, to be honest. I had the Brown Sugar Milk Tea 100% sweet with 3 scoops of boba. Now I will say it was a little to sweet for my likings but that is entirety my fault. My drink was made very fast. When I had trouble adding toppings the worker helped me and was very attentive. The vibe of the store is very nice. The Alien decor was very nice. Overall, my first experience was at this boba store was nice and worth it. To learn from my mistake you should get it less sweet if you like a lot of boba. read more

It's not often that I leave a place unsure about my thoughts. After a nearby soccer game, my family and friend popped into this little shop at The Wharf. The lights were dimmed, and no one was inside so we were surprised to learn it was open. Once inside, we saw the character E.T. depicted throughout as well quirky things like a large Bluey doll and a metal cat sculpture. We ordered our bubble tea from tablets and they were ready within 5-7 minutes. Our friend enjoyed his Thai bubble tea. Our daughter found the strawberry one just okay. My wife and I got the normal bubble tea and it was very unique. The boba was very warm and the consistency of the tea was a little more thick than what we're used to. Another impromptu stop while leaving The wharf. We wanted coffee but for some reason decided to stop here instead of backtracking to the coffee shop.... Ironically, this is mostly a tea place and we wanted a hot coffee drink! But I should have known better than to order a hot drink with oat milk from a tea place. Everyone place their own orders using the self-service kiosk. They had some very cool and pretty looking drinks and desserts. Ultimately, I decided to order a coffee drink......I chose the hot tiramisu oat latte. What was I thinking!??? I watched the employee make the beverage.. he used powdered oat (milk??), a few drips of watered down coffee and a few other drips and drops of other things. And voila! An awful hot powdery beverage!! Customer service was pretty much non-existent. As soon as we walked in, there was no greeting of any sort. Was exploring the wharf for the first time with my daughters and their cousins (11, 9, 9 and 5) and happened upon E-Tea. They had a great selection of drinks both with and without tea (for the kids). The shop is small with just a few tables and seats outside. They have an alien theme throughout the store (get it E-Tea). All ordering is done via the kiosk. Though they were busy, the drinks came fast. I got the basic back tea with boba and it was very good with great tea flavor (I get 50% sugar now....doctors orders). There is an ET mural in the shop, as well as cherry blossoms to celebrate the flowers in season (The Wharf has a whole bloom theme going on). I ordered a mango pomelo drink (mango slush, mango, coconut mlk, grapefruit grain, crystal bubble) which is a seasonal special. My friend tried the sakura matcha (matcha with strawberry cream), also a seasonal special. My drink was almost ready but then they suddenly remade my drink ( not sure why). It was redone and it tasted good, although there were several chunks of ice. The boba was wonderful, very soft yet chewy. There was a decent amount of mango. This alien-themed boba shop at the Wharf is such a fun concept. It is a takeout type of shop as there are no tables inside and only two small tables outside. They have a large but ordinary selection of drinks. I opted for the brown sugar milk tea with 25% sugar, and it was a perfect moderate amount of sweetness. My Jupiter-sized (large) drink with tapioca was $7.89. It costs extra to substitute a non-dairy milk. I enjoyed the drink, but the tapioca was flavourless. I know tapioca naturally doesn't have much of a taste, but this one was so flavourless that it didn't even taste like tapioca. Came here in the late afternoon after lunch and we got the brown sugar milk tea, thai tea, and pineapple slush. The pineapple slush was, by far, the best tasting thing we ordered. The thai tea was nothing special, but the brown sugar milk tea tasted a little off. Either the milk was a little past the expiry date, or too artificial or something, and the entire milk tea was a little gritty. I visited this place during Bloomaroo at The Wharf to try out their Sakura Matcha drink. Going inside there wasn't really much room as you have kiosks to order from and a pick up counter for you to grab your drink and go. I think the service is kind of non existent as you are just ordering through the screen and only interacting with someone to confirm your drink. I got the Sakura Matcha drink because it looks aesthetically pleasing and I just like matcha + anything. I liked the amount of options you have if you wanted less sugar, less ice, or none, etc. I got the Earth Size which is their regular size compared to their Jupiter sized drink which was much bigger. Since I'm in DC, expect prices to be a lot more for what you normally pay for in VA/MD/Anywhere else. I think I paid a good 8 bucks and I felt like that was not worth it. The drink though, was good and lives up to its name, but I don't think I would get Boba in the Wharf unless I really crave it. Check it out once at least. read more

I rarely ever drink boba in the city. For a long time there were only just a handful of options and some of the best spots were in the suburbs. However, I totally forgot about E-Tea despite walking by pretty often. So yesterday, I decided to give it another shot since I don't think I've been here since they first opened and was serving food. I ordered a small brown sugar boba at the self-order kiosk with tapioca crystals, the lowest level of sweetness and 50% ice. Within 5 minutes my boba was ready and I was on my way. In terms of the taste, I thought it was great! However, this was the first time I had ever ordered tapioca crystals and I think in the future I'll stick with traditional boba. With the crushed ice, the tapioca crystals would sometimes feel interchangeable which experientially was not ideal for me. Otherwise, I was pleased with my order and will drop by again in the future if the craving hits! read more

Love that you can customize the sugar level and ice level of the milk tea!! It is kiosk ordering only in the shop and you grab your own straws at the table. I got the large size taro milk tea. Tapioca pearls (boba) were an extra charge but they dont skimp on this and they were super chewy and warm at the bottom of the drink. I ordered one of their "top sellers" the tiramisu boba and it wasn't good at all. I went in early October, so got to enjoy their Halloween and space decorations. It was my first time there, so I was able to ask someone about several of their drinks to help me make my choice. I opted for the Aurora Lemonade with 50% sugar. It comes with a lemon slice in it and was the perfect refreshment for me - it is lemonade with sprite and tea (which gives it a purple color). I got the rose milk tea with 30% sugar and boba. The boba was completely plain which was surprising as most boba shops I frequent add sweetness to the pearls. The milk tea itself was decent, no strong tea flavor and a bit watered down but the rose flavor was definitely there. Overall, not bad for DC and conveniently located on The Wharf! This is not a drill.....a bubble tea store has officially landed at The Wharf in DC!! I ventured down to The Wharf recently to check out the Mardi Gras parade, and stumbled upon the soft grand opening of this spot. A quick Google search shows that they may have locations in Richmond,VA and San Francisco, CA, but I'm not entirely sure if it's the same franchise. As this was a soft grand opening, they only had a limited menu to serve. However, they did display what looked to be the full, regular menu, and it looks really good, with some sushi items included as well. Even though they didn't have the full menu, they did have pastries available for purchase. I didn't get any, but I have to admit I was tempted as it looked absolutely delicious. I went with old faithful and ended up ordering a small Thai iced tea, without the boba. It was delicious, and I almost wished I had ordered a large instead, as it only cost $1 more. Aside from the menu, the place is small, but functional, and the decor is cute. They have a bathroom available for customers, as well as some limited window seating. Overall, the service was great and fast, considering the long lines they had to deal with. They also have an option to order ahead online, which is useful for potentially avoiding any long waits. Really cute boba place on the wharf. About time!! Went with a large group, orders were taken promptly and efficiently. I thought some of the drinks were mediocre. They didn't stand out. Cashier didn't really understand my questions about the drinks:( But the drink maker was super sweet and kind!! I'll be ranking the flavors we tried from best to worst: 1. Rose Milk Tea (5/5) Super delicate yet strong rose flavor. Very sweet. But the rose ugh so good:) 2. Matcha Milk Tea (5/5) Tastes like melted green tea ice cream. Really liked it, not grainy at all. Super smooth and sweet. 3. Strawberry Milk Tea (4.5/5) Tasted like straight strawberry milk, which I absolutely love. So def rating this high on my list as well. 4. Dragonfruit Rose Black (3.5/5) It wasn't the best drink ever. It felt kind of flat. There was a light rose flavor but no dragon fruit. I'm not quite sure what to describe it as. Just felt a bit short. 5. White Peach Oolong (3/5) I don't like oolong. Tastes a lot like barley tea. Very earthy flavor normally. This one, white peach flavor isn't too apparent. Quite sweet. Eh. Wouldn't pay my money for it. Friend liked it though! 6. Brown Sugar Milk Tea (1/5) I definitely don't think they put enough syrup in this one. The drink was very diluted and had no brown sugar flavor at all. If you look at the picture the drip is also quite sad :( Just tasted like milk. Felt pretty bad for my friend who ordered this. Normally getting brown sugar milk tea is a safe choice at boba places cuz of the simplicity. But this was not the move. It might've been a one day thing though. One of the only if not the only bubble tea shop on The Wharf, E-tea sticks to its extraterrestrial theme with planet sized beverages - Earth for Regular, Jupiter for Large (+$1). There are two electronic kiosks you can order from as you walk in. The selection is a bit sparse but the flavors sound unique. My main issue with this place is the portioning of their sugar/ice. I got the Dragonfruit Rose black tea with 25% sugar and regular ice. Even with regular ice, there was barely any and with 25% sugar, it still tasted excessively sweet to me. I don't even want to know what regular sugar is like.... If I do come back I'd like to see what their zero sugar drinks taste like, but there are better options elsewhere for bubble tea. read more

E-Tea is a decent boba tea store. It's a good alternative to Kung Fu Tea but not as nice as the local Gong Cha stores. The location is conveniently central but the store is slightly dungeon'y and creepy. Their pastries looked sad and old. You end up ordering on electronic boards, so no service to speak of. I got their cherry blossom seasonal drink with crystal pearls and lychee jelly. They do not cheap out on the toppings! Half of my cup (see picture) was topping based. The drink was extra sweet, so I recommend going less than 50% sugar. They have great and clean outdoor seating. Not bad! read more
