We ordered the Edamame and House Smashed Cucumber. The Cucumber had the right amount of tanginess. The Cheng Du Spicy Wonton stood out. The spicy sauce that they came in was an excellent accompaniment. We finished off with the Reren Signature Ramen. It really hit the spot. The ambience is very casual. We always enjoy our meals at this casual Georgetown spot. Located on the second level, we like getting a spot towards the front window so we can look out at the action of Georgetown. Service is okay. It is really hit or miss. We have come here over the years and it's not a very local experience. It's definitely more of place where they have local students managing the place. That's fine, but will give you some perspective on the experience. When we come here, we enjoy the dumplings, and edamame. It's a perfectly nice spot. My favorite? My friends and I had a reading party event at the National Portrait Gallery. It was SOOO cold, so we decided to stop here for some ramen. I have been to this place quite a few times in the past few years, and their Georgetown and the food are delicious. Today I was craving the classic General Tso chicken and also got a Mai Tai to complement the yapping and gossiping with my friends. Both my friends got the signature lamen. For an appetizer, we got veggie house-made dumplings. The food was delicious, per usual, and the drinks were as well. The service was speedy and attentive. Lots of seating and big portions! Dan dan noodles had a boatload of peanuts and meat, the ratio i like :). A little kick, and super flavorful. Needed a bit more greens, like scallions cilantro or cucumbers to offset the heavy flavor, but thats just my preference. The service is fast, the space is clean, if this were in a suburb it would likely be viewed as excellent food, but because there's options in DC it's just good. You can walk in, there are enough tables, they have some cocktails and your typical beers like tsingtao. The menu has all the expected chinese dishes from twice fried pork to soup dumplings. Not one dish is stellar, but I think the dan dan noodles are a good choice. They will likely not be the best dan dan noodles you can get, but they are flavorful and do the trick. I bet this place can be great, I was just limited with what I could order. The vegetable dumplings were top notch. 10/10, I would 100% order again. They are hand made and the dumpling skin is fantastic. We also got chicken karaage and general tso bourbon chicken. They are both breaded chicken and fried the same way. My younger son loved the general tso, my older son ate some of the karaage (with the sauce on the side). For me, I felt getting both dishes to be redundant, but since they ate different things I don't regret it. My husband got an old fashioned and really enjoyed it. They have a full liquor bar with a cocktail menu. I skipped getting a cocktail because other than the old fashioned they all seemed to have sour mix. Service was quick and there were tons of open tables at 5 pm on a Tuesday. The mural on the wall is pretty cool. While walking around China Town I stepped in to have a meal. I ordered the pork dumplings and spicy chicken. The dumplings had plenty of pork filling inside but the flavor didn't really pop. Just average dumplings here. The spicy chicken was not spicy at all and the red sauce was sweet. I didn't really care for the coating they had on the chicken as it had that gummy feeling that sticks to your teeth. I ordered sweet and sour pork ribs, stir-fried cauliflower (not spicy) and Signature Lamen. I like the sweet and sour pork ribs in a nature color which is not in "red" or "pink" sauce. I came in a little before 5 pm, not crowded, so the service is good and quick. The cauliflowers and Lamen are also taste good. I decided to try Reren for lunch. Its a casual spot that clearly focuses on the food. It's my first time trying lamen and it didn't disappoint. I was quickly seated and my order was taken. I tried the following: duck (4/5; nice flavor, tender, a bit fatty for my taste but seemed like a traditional preparation) , smashed cucumber (4/5; refreshing and tasty, really yummy sauce. Can I fairly judge a ramen shop when I did not try the ramen? Sure I can and it gives me an excuse to hit this place up again in the future. This place has the feel of some ramen shops in Japan in that it is cozy. Cozy in the sense that it is small but still got room to move. When you get up you don't have to worry about your rump bumping a person's drink. Ok I will say this place is large compared to some ramen shops in Japan that only have seats for about six or eight people. This place is in Chinatown near Capitol One Arena next to a Thai restaurant about a five minute walk from Gallery Place metro stop. Starting off I went with a libation of their version of the LIT but made with Thai iced tea and it was a nice twist on an old favorite. For an appetizer we, but mainly me, went with pork dumplings. If you are thinking these are just the ordinary gyozas you get from the grocery store you would be wrong. I do think these are house made and they are very plump filled with your selection of meat. My entree was the double fly (fry) pork belly. It is listed as spicy but not very spicy to me. It did have a pinch of heat that might be too much for some but not for me. I requested chili oil to get a few extra scoville that added a bit more flavor but not much more heat. Still it was good and wish I got it with the the buns instead of rice. Pork in soft buns sounds great and a definite to try. I see myself heading here again. The prices are reasonable and the wait is not long if in a time crunch. Bartender only gave me a fork, so I had to steal my chopsticks from container at the other end of the bar. Really narrow space with only 7 tables ( one communal) and 4 bar seats. One of the best places I have found in the city for such a good price. I dined in with my partner on a Monday night around 8pm, there were only a few tables still sat in the restaurant. We were starving and I had come here with the intention of getting some fried dumplings. When we ordered we were informed they didn't offer their dumplings fried, so I changed my order to the wings and my partner got the soup dumplings (which we had never had). Service was good and my favorite part was they gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted. The wings were HOT when they arrived at the table, crispy on the outside but perfectly cooked on the inside. I was so impressed because to get wings that large crispy, people usually overcook the wings to the point they're dry. These wings were anything but. The soup dumplings were DELICIOUS, and I am not a fan of steamed dumplings. Absolutely incredible. The General Tso's chicken was a must have, same crispy-ness as the wings but then the sauce's flavor was that perfect spice and sweetness. They also put a decent amount of sauce on the plate, so you could get extra dips. The string beans literally tasted like someone had just picked them from a garden, crunch and fresh. Everything we had was phenomenal and clearly made with love. The entire time we were there, uber eats/door dash drivers kept arriving and I understand why.
