I really wanted to leave a glowing 5-star review because, when we first arrived I was obsessed with this place. My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning. read more

Lovely Bed and breakfast in the outskirts of Taos. We arrive at this lovely B&B and Gould the grounds to be very beautiful. Has a real south west vibe going on which continued into our room. The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. 12.20.19: Decide on a whim to go to Taos for Christmas! Yes, because Bruce Willis playing himself in "Oceans 12" reveals that Julia Roberts owns a rustic retreat there. (I'm not often that shallow, but when I am, I go big!) 12.21: 5-star Yelp score convincing. Speak to owner "Bob." Friendly guy. Mention it will be our VERY FIRST trip to Taos. Only 9 rooms, but I implore Bob: Please give me one with a TUB! (My #1 indulgence on vacay). And Bob says "he's my uncle!" 12.24, 3:59: ARRIVE! Glorious Cottonwood & Blue Spruces twinkle in the rapidly falling dusk over the 200-yr old adobe. But, confusion. How do we let someone know we're here? There! A big red 1980s dial-up telephone hangs on a wood panel. That is very Matrix-like. I'm intrigued. Should I pick it up? But will that inexorably alter...our Timeline? 12.24, 4:07: Just then, saved from my metaphysical dilemma! Very fit, tan & determined sphinx of a certain age, hurries by with a menu--is she the Chef? Or is she The Oracle?? Takes one look at me & says, "Park around back. I will put you in the Bird Room." Oh-kay! We park around back. The bird room is dank like a birdcage. The bathroom is frigid. But makes up for it all by being very, very red. Enormous red armchairs, a red armoire, a red Mark Rothko, red tablecloth on a little round table, & a red Rooster. You need a Master's from MIT to work the heater, though, and...wait for it...There is no TUB. BUT- at least a large spider lives with its family in the corner ceiling, and before we leave, one is friendly enough to make an appearance in our bed. 12.25,10:32am: Spinning our wheels. Literally. You see, having been directed to park "round back" resulted in being trapped in a veritable valley behind the inn with a 30-degree incline, now covered with snow, and undergirded with black ice on an unpaved lot. No one told us that we would need a backhoe to get out of the rear parking lot at the intimate little "GUEST"house...you know, versus a corporate, chain hotel where they regularly disregard the safety & comfort of their guests. 12.25,11:06: The Oracle shows up. This time she gives us the sage advice, while looking up at the cloudless, New Mexico sky: "Well you oughta know when a storm is coming and carry kitty litter with you. And everyone here has 4-wheel drive." Why, thank you, Oracle. That's just fine. But aren't YOU the one who ordered us to park "round back" instead of "round front" where it was nicely-paved, level, and perfectly fine for us CitySlickers in our 2WD Toyota Tacoma? And by the way, don't you guys HAVE a cat?? Couldn't you have brought some kitty litter when you sashayed out here to make that offering of wisdom? Sans coffee, btw. 12.25,11:32: Probably tiring of watching his guests play the game of "Take the Tacoma up hill, and let it roll back in the snow" [Extra points for not swerving into the ditch on the way down], while I dedicatedly up vote the only non-stellar Yelp review for this place, Bob magically appears. 12.25,11:50: Bob comes up with an even more absurd game than ours! My hubby will sit on the truck bed for weight, along with some big rocks, and then Bob will floor it?! After an hour of futility (& having missed breakfast& no more to eat at the inn on Xmas), we chorused, "Sure!" I steeled myself for what seemed a nearly certain and grisly death for my beloved in front of me & to take pictures of the carnage for the inevitable insurance claim and multi-state litigation. (Still grateful to Bob, though, or our entire vacay might be in the back parking lot). There were Christmas cookies in the lovely parlor that night, though! 12.26, 9:29am: I make it in time, by 1 minute, to breakfast. My husband refuses. He is eating Bison Jerky from our road trip under the covers & is now doing a personal, silent boycott of the B&B. I pick a table and set down a glass & my cellphone. Made the mistake of getting up for coffee and one of the "regulars" placed his coat over mine and snarled at me when I pointed out that I was already sitting there. Shortly thereafter, Scout, the owners' big hairy dog (and a prime candidate for "The Biggest Loser," Canine Edition) ambles resolutely over to me, determinedly eyeing my bacon. Then another guest casts me a disapproving look. She says, too loudly, "Well, WE like you, don't we, Scout?" Oh, really? I "like" Scout, too...I would just LIKE Scout to leave me alone while I enjoy the 2nd "B" of the B&B. 12.26,10:40am: Co-owner Cady knocks for housekeeping. Hubby napping. She says OK, she'll be back. She does not come back. In fact, no one has serviced our room since we arrived 2 days ago, or before we leave. A great lady does the spa. The grounds are gorgeous. The breakfast (after an offering to Scout) is gourmet. Nearly 60% of the 5* reviews here, though, are from those with 1 or fewer friends &/or reviews on Yelp. This spot is a true find, close enough to enjoy the town, but off path to make a true vacation escape. All the rooms are a bit different, so check if you require TV, etc. Our room was perfectly appointed, breakfast was lovely and homemade and pet friendly. My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this lovely property. The owners are great and really strive to make your visit a unique and accommodating experience. The rooms are well appointed and have a cozy kiva fireplace. This bed and breakfast is a gem for many reasons, especially the dining area where breakfast is served. We enjoyed the yogurt parfait and different quiches they served every morning with coffee, tea, and juice. Loved LOved LOVEd this tranquil and scenic and comfortably slept at place! Such a wonderful little B&B full of well decorated rooms, with spanish tile floors and clean little bathrooms! All very quiet and very private rooms lead to the well kept courtyard. Outside there are fancy chickens roaming the grounds, and at night Old Taos B&B is all lit up so pretty. Didn't like that I could only stay one night! The owners are awesome. They give you your space, but they're there to help with anything if asked. This is a perfectly maintained 180 year old adobe hacienda with comfortable, modern furnishings. It looked like it could have been in architectural digest. It might be the best place to stay in Taos, too. The large acreage allows you to enjoy the awesome weather and some nature while only being about a 3 minute drive from the historic district where all the shops, galleries, wineries, live music and restaurants are located. Parking at a meter in town is 50 cents an hour until 5pm so it's no problem. We just pulled up in town and got parking immediately outside a gallery called "Untitled" every time we went in to town. The free breakfast every morning was extremely tasty and filling and would easily have cost $20 at an equivalent trendy restaurant at home. They aren't just serving croissants and jelly but really going the extra mile for a great breakfast. The shared room has been updated since some of the last pictures on yelp and it's a pleasant place to eat breakfast and read. There are lots of outdoor places so you're never crowded with other guests. The owners, Bob and Cady, bought it last year and have really gone the extra mile to improve it and offer a great stay. This place is just outside of the plaza and you wonder if your going the right way because of the driveway, but it was so great we came back a second night after Santa Fe. Tim and Leslie are great and extremely helpful if you want to explore. You can chose your room, they're all different. Room 5 was our favorite right next to the hot tub. This place really feels like home. Hot tub under the stars this place is very relaxing and cozy. I can't wait to go back! This is an old historical place so there is the musky smell but other than that its great! Our first bed and breakfast and it was the best experience! My wife and I were on an extended road trip, and she needed to teach a class to 60 students the following morning. We called TGH to ask about WiFi, and instead of just say it's good, Bob did a speed test to tell us the specific speed, consulted with his IT guy, and offered for her to setup in his office where the modem is. She ended up teaching the next morning from his office, with her laptop hooked up to the modem. Bob just laughed as we brought in a flat screen monitor, walking past the guests enjoying breakfast. Bob was so comforting during a nervous time for my wife, which made all the difference in the world. This type of welcoming attitude is completely reflective of the property. Each room is unique and cool, Bob makes a killer breakfast (we even bought a pair of the cool coffee mugs in the breakfast room), has classical music playing in the main room, has a beautiful patio overlooking their 20 acre or so property to the west. We also had an incredibly cool gas fireplace in our room. Just an amazing experience overall. Can't imagine ever staying somewhere else in Taos in the future. read more

Spent many days camping in the rain, only to call Tim and find an available room! Which was dog friendly! Tim was very welcoming on the phone and gave us tips on where to stop on our drive to Taos. We did not know what to expect, but we pulled into a beautiful front yard, with flowers blooming and Tim gave us the tour and showed us our cozy room with a fireplace and a hot tub near our room. We were set for 2 nights. Wish we could've stayed longer!! We also had amazing breakfasts, thanks to Leslie and Tim. Helloooooo Travelers heading to Taos. You know what really sucks? When one finds a B&B that starts off sooo promising but turns out to be very disappointing. Welcome to The Old Taos Guesthouse. Me and Smalls were there on July 6th, 2019 My review would be different IF: - One of the main features of my room; the fireplace, worked as introduced. - The staff were more accommodating and friendly AFTER check in. - The room was cleaner - The room didn't smell - The pillows didn't smell like sweat - Someone else's hair wasn't on the bathroom floor When one checks in you're like, "damn this place is really sweet" but then.. Here's the skinny: - The place is lovely, very serene. - Red phone availability to access the innkeeper, which is useless - No TVs in the rooms. Niiice. - No A/C. What's offered is a giant fan that sounds like a helicopter. - Rochelle, the hostess, is not service oriented after hours. - After one checks in, the hospitality drops right off the cliff. What's the point of having a "red phone" to contact the innkeeper at anytime with any issues, if they don't answer? Or when they do, they don't want to help? When I contacted our innkeeper because the fireplace in our room didn't work, she told me to turn on the wall heater instead... and flat out refused to help start the fireplace. She was actually pretty rude & hung up on me. - And wow!! More attitude!! Even the day after! - Communal refrigerator.. yuck. And that thang ain't been cleaned in awhile. - Pre-filled buckets of ice, 8 cubes per bucket in a communal freezer, packed by who knows? Again.. yuck. - Nice thick coating of dust on the dresser in the room. - Honey... whose hair is that all over the bathroom floor? Ewewewewewew -The Breakfast room has an odor reminiscent of.. well.. vomit and Pine Sol.. - Actually, as I'm sitting here writing this review, I notice that my room has that odor as well... - Breakfast was delicious - The bed was comfortable - The pillows were uncomfortable and smelled like sweat... Mmmmmmmm - I love natural lighting.. unless that skylight is directly over my bed. Damn that's bright in the morning. No sleeping in late here. Especially if you want breakfast.. which is served between 8:00 and 9:30. - I guess if you were one of those "Hey maaan.. I'm trying to recapture my Hippie Days.. down with the establishment" people who permeate this region, you will find it a nice alternative to your VW Microbus. Groovy man... If you want to stay at a B&B where you don't have to try so hard, there are plenty more in Taos to choose from. $180 dollars for ONE NIGHT?? SERIOUSLY? We enjoyed our Taos experience at this charming rustic B&B. The beds were good and the room big enough with a separate room for the bathroom. The grounds were very nice for relaxing and reading. The climate here is pretty warm until into the evening in early August, but like most high desert places, the air cools down overnight for good sleeping in the early mornings. It is located in a semi-rural area away from town so it's very quiet and relaxing, but Taos is small enough that it was easy to go into town. You could even walk it, but there's no good reason to work up a sweat just going into town, right? Everything was very clean and well-kept, especially considering the age of this historic building. There is a "common room" open to guests 24-hours with books and a TV in case you need your fix. Scenery is genuine High Desert so that you can feel transported back in time. The bathroom in our room had updated fixtures and counter, but the water pressure was disappointingly low. The grounds are well maintained and landscaped with sitting areas here and there, a burbling water feature with some seats next to it, and a good parking lot with an overflow lot behind the buildings if the main lot fills up. Probably the highlight was the welcoming hostess employee (we didn't meet the owners nor catch her name... Sorry!) who prepared an excellent breakfast each day for all. She was welcoming, very pleasant, and offered useful suggestions of what to do in town and where to park. And I can't omit the aging yellow Lab and cat who just add to the ambiance. We stopped in for a Valentine's weekend. We were impressed and we will be back. We found the hostess to be very friendly and informative. The information guide in the suite was full of helpful information about the area and about the history of the guesthouse. The suite was clean and comfortable and decorated in tasteful Southwest style. The breakfast was simply delicious, and the community space (living room) was inviting. I was impressed that we were asked about food allergies before we arrived-and the hostess remembered! We liked walking around the property to see the views. We loved being greeted by the ambassadors (a gentle old dog and a very friendly cat). We felt right at home! read more

I almost hate to give such a good review because I know the news will spread fast and soon this place will be not such a best kept secret any longer. But Bob and Kady, the owners are the sweetest, friendliest hosts. Their homemade breakfasts are PHENOMENAL! The rooms are so charming. Concur with other Yelpers. This place is very tranquil and peaceful. I felt it was a very good value. A few things i would mention but didn't want to "ding" their 5 star rating Other yelpers might appreciate this information. We didn't have air conditioning in our room. It didn't bother us but we didn't check in until 4:30pm and left for dinner shortly after check in and came back late. We stayed in late August. I know that could be a deal breaker for some. There was a plug in fan available. Another thing to mention was our room was one of the old original rooms so the ceiling and the entrance door way was really low. My husband is 6"4 and he had very little clearance inside the room and did have to duck to enter the room. If you are tall you might want to mention that when you book your room. I noticed other rooms had normal doors. The breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. Fresh eggs laid from the hen that morning was included in the homemade quiche. Some of the fruit in the fruit salad was prepared from their fruit trees on site. Homemade zucchini muffins were also presented. The owner Tim was eager to please. He even mentioned (apologized) as to why he didn't offer fresh squeezed orange juice anymore. I appreciated his willingness to cater to our needs. I confess, this was our first B&B. If every B&B is like this one, we may never stay in another hotel. Bob & Cady were delightful, genuinely appreciative of our 1 night stay, and the breakfast was delicious! Example #1 - When we pulled off the I-25 from Colorado I called the B&B to let them know when we'd arrive (I couldn't remember the check in times). Bob was very happy I called as a courtesy. I had heard someone that nice on the phone since I don't know when! Ex #2 - When we arrived, my wife asked if the pillows were down (she's allergic) and they said absolutely not but they weren't sure about the blanket on the bed. They removed it and replaced it with another as quickly as they could (a few minutes). Ex #3 - We had some noisy neighbors the night we stayed. I noticed that our room had an old door that connected to those neighbors, but it was covered by furniture. We mentioned to Cady that that door may need another solution to help with soundproofing. She was very thankful that we brought it up and come to find out we were not the only ones that heard our noisy neighbors. The place itself was adorable and it's close enough to the canyon to have the feel of a real mountain retreat. We only wish we stayed a few more days! One more note about Room #7... If you're tall, you may want to pick another room. The bathroom is very tiny with a very low ceiling. When we had the bathroom window open it felt a little like you were in the middle of a hallway where everybody could hear your business (they probably could), so there may be better choices for privacy than #7. read more

This place was amazing! My bf and I called in from a last minute roadtrip and got a reservation for that night. Totally reasonable rate that included a substantial homemade breakfast. It is not every day that you get to stay in a historic adobe dwelling. The rooms were done up old taos style. There was a fireplace in our room and a great hot tub outdoors. It is only a couple of miles from downtown and it makes you feel like you are experiencing a little of real Taos. I will stay here again for sure. read more

We found Old Taos Guesthouse Bed & Breakfast somewhat by chance online... we drove into Taos (oblivious to the fact that NM is an hour ahead of where we came from)...we called ahead to let Bob know...he kindly waited for us to arrive early evening and helped us with restaurant choices for dinner! We were in the Sunrise Suite - it is absolutely charming, cleanliness is up to my OCD mom's standard! The night sky was filled with lovely stars and we fell asleep to the soft orchestral music of crickets in the courtyard. Morning sun filled our rooms with birdies chirping all around us! Breakfast was delicious - quiche, muffin & fruits. Bob, Kathy and Scout (their cute doggie) welcomed us into their magical B & B. Long story short, we had an amazing one night stay! There is a reason this place has, at this time, nothing but 5-star review (15 straight, including mine). My girlfriend and I wanted a nice weekend retreat and this was a total score. It was her first B&B experience and she was incredibly pleased. The location is spectacular. It is removed from Taos square but still very close. It is a great spot it you are looking to go to Taos Ski Valley. National forest is all around if hiking or snowshoeing is what you are looking for. There is no need to leave though if you are looking for relaxation. The grounds and rooms themselves accomplish that, as does the hot-tub. The owners are wonderful, with a friendly smile, a great laugh, and a spot-on suggestion. The rooms are well-done, cozy, and romantic. The Kivas add much to the ambiance. The breakfast is healthy, home-made, and delicious. For the price, I truly cannot imagine a better experience. I've stayed at several B&Bs over the years and this is definitely one of the best I have had the privilege of staying at and was, hands down, the best deal. read more

We stay at B&B's every once in a while. Old Taos Guesthouse Bed & Breakfast is at the top of our list. The owners Bob and Kathy are welcoming and warm. They have a great staff. the rooms where immaculate. I had the opportunity to see a few rooms and they all had their charm. The grounds were also clean beautiful. The hot tub was a little hot the first night. Mentioned it to Bob and he had it heated perfectly for the next night. The property looks west for amazing sunsets. I mentioned to Bob that we wanted to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset. He set up the chimenea so all we needed to do was light the starter and paper. He also left out additional wood. We enjoyed sunset, wine and fire as the stars came out. We stayed 3 nights, every morning the Breakfast where amazing. Plenty of delicious hot food to get our day going. Cant wait to go back! I just stayed here and was very impressed with the offerings. For a price that is very reasonable (as far as B&Bs go) we booked a room the night before we showed up. The grounds are situated, in the front, around a charming courtyard with a fountain, benches, and plenty of tasteful landscaping. The grounds in the back look out over a field to the northern reaches of the Santa Fe mountains and some damn fine sunsets. There are benches, hammocks, a little table area for eating...and a hot tub that is set a little farther back!!! The breakfast was vegetarian (which annoyed me at first, but I got over it because it was delicious) and the coffee was good and strong. Plenty of food to go around. The only drawback was that the orange juice was pretty 'Minute Maid', but I can understand that fresh oranges are an expensive commodity in northern NM. Here's the important bit: I strongly dislike Santa Fe for all its bougie, burned-out hippies and new agers. Taos, I believe, can be the same way. Pretty gross unless you're into UFOs, offensive-to-Natives SW trinket shit, 'mono-chromaticism', and generally paying too much for stuff. This place is far enough from the main thoroughfares and the plaza that you won't get that kind of shit hanging out on your front step. I would definitely stay here again. We only stayed here one night, but it was definitely our favorite stop of the trip. Bob and Cady are delightful, charming and incredibly thoughtful people, we felt like we were staying in their home. They have everything: great views of the valley and the mountains, a fridge to put a couple beers, gorgeous property with lounging chars, a spa, a dog named Scout, a rooster named Merlin, board games and the most delicious french toast. I loved my stay here. The new owners are fabulous!!! Bob and Cady apparently just took over about six months ago and were so welcoming and friendly. They were always ready with helpful suggestions about where to hike or eat. Not to mention, they serve the best breakfast every morning. Seriously delicious. They were even careful to accommodate my vegetarian requests. The property is beautiful. Our room was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Cady took us on a tour of the property and we got to see all the other rooms, which were equally gorgeous. The sunsets there are amazing. There are benches where you can sit quietly and enjoy it overlooking their property. The hot tub was great for a glass of wine at night looking up at the starry sky. Location is great- close to town and hiking. A side bonus- their son was visiting at the same time and really added to the aesthetics ;) read more

My wife and I stayed at this place for two nights on first week of September 2012. A beautiful place well kept and managed by a couple, Leslie and Tim. Inn is an 180-year old charm, well managed by this couple. The beauty of this place shows in every room, patio and gardens. Breakfast is home made from local eggs and fruits grown on the property or its neighbors. We found all we needed in the rooms. My two Sons and I stayed a night at Old Taos Guesthouse enjoying a very comfortable two bedroom suite. The premises are in excellent condition and one can feel the history in the adobe walls.
