We had a great time paragliding with Rob, Chris, and their team. Totally professional, comfortable equipment, attention to every detail, and felt very safe and fun for all ages. We went for my dad's 70th birthday, they were great getting him up and going on several flights, he had a great time. Also took my four kids, ages 19, 17, 14, and 11. All of them were able to get up right away and had so much fun. We had to stop around 11:30am (we started at 8am) due to changing wind conditions, they were very cautious about safety, especially for my two 100-pounders. We were able to get 5-6 flights each in that time, and they were running the van up and down the hill consistently. No waiting, we just went as many times as we could after about an hour of fitting, training, etc. Beautiful location with a beach view, also. We booked with Eagle Paragliding as part of a 30th birthday adventure weekend and I left beyond impressed! Not just with the experience but with everyone that works here. What an amazing, friendly, comfortable, supportive and FUN group!! Our group of 6 all did solo flights. We all came with ope minds, as I don't think any of us knew what we were in for. The training portion definitely challenges you physically and mentally. Sure, I'm not ashamed to admit, I had my moments of, "screw it, I'm hopeless"... but instead of brushing me off, they gave me some one on one time while we watched the first people jump... two minutes later I'd changed to: "you're right, god damn it, lets freakin do this!" So happy I did!! From the first lift off, everything clicks and you're smooth rolling into bliss, gliding the paradise of the air. Where we took coercing who would do the first jump, we were pushing each other out of the way in competition to go a second time. If you're still suffering trepidation, "is this or isn't this safe for me", my 3 year old son jumped tandem with one of the instructors and had the time of his life. Who knew paragliding was such a fantastic children's activity, good for all ages. Also proving how amazing the people at Eagle are!! If you're 3, yes - go tandem. If you're an adult, [wo]man up and experience the thrill of bending the air to your mercy. I would book again with Eagle in a heartbeat... and will actually be counting the minutes until we get to go out again. THANK YOU! PS. Eagle Paragliding is, hands-down, the best place for your paragliding experience. Whether you want to have Rob or one of his crew do the flying for you (a tandem) or do the flying yourself, Eagle can set you up. My fiancé and I signed up for our P2 certifications with Eagle and were reminded weekly that we made the right decision. The staff at Eagle is the hardest working in Santa Barbara. Several schools share the training hill at Elings, but Eagle was (and is) always the first school to arrive and the last school to leave. The classes were small and everyone was encouraged to go at their own pace. Eagle's staff is friendly and is made up of some of the most accomplished pilots in the world. While anyone who takes with Eagle will benefit from their knowledge and experience, people looking to advance in the sport will especially appreciate it. People looking to advance will also appreciate their "student for life" policy. If you learn with Eagle, they're happy to coach you any time you fly with them- long after your lessons are over. When it came to buying our equipment, Eagle showed us a great value for our money. We discussed goals and future flying plans and they suggested the equipment they thought was right for us, not the equipment that they thought would have made them the most money. For example, I was planning on buying a new wing, but Rob suggested a nearly-new wing he had because he thought it would be a better value. Since Heidi and I started flying, we've had seven visitors take Eagle's day-lesson and they've all been thrilled and are excited to come back out and fly again. Very high quality instruction, and patient, enthusiastic instructors! These guys are pros, but very easy going at the same time. I spent 5 days practicing my kiting, basic maneuvers, approaches, and spot landings on the training hill. There were a few times when we had the whole hill to ourselves practicing long after everyone else went home. The weather was phenominal and I flew every day, with only brief periods waiting for fog to clear or winds to die down. On my last couple days, I did a couple mountain flights, getting to circle in a few thermals, and also did some ridge soaring on the coast, practicing launches, top landings, and when the wind died down, landing on the beach. I came here from Alaska to get get my P2 rating under the recommendation from paraglider pilots up there and have no regrets. They set me up with a brand new wing and harness, plus all the accessories and I felt good knowing they wanted me to have the gear that will work best for me. I'll be looking into touring with Eagle in the future where they say I can get about 20 hours of flying in a week! Go check these guys out. read more

I am deathly afraid of heights. In fact, I've been known to cry on a rock climbing wall. But nothing gets you over a fear than to quite literally dive head first into it, right? I found Eagle Paragliding after doing some research on safe paragliding and then, still with some feelings of trepidation, signed up for a beginner day class. And what an amazing experience! I felt completely safe the whole time I was in class, even at the point where an air pocket abruptly dropped me about 4ft to the ground. What's great is they equip you with headphones and are talking you through what you need to do, every step of your flight. I have had an excellent paragliding experience with Eagle Paragliding. I strongly recommend the school to others interested in paragliding. I signed up for the two-day introductory lesson to determine if I wanted to go for it. After a gentle introduction to the essentials, I found myself running off the top of the hill on a forward launch, flying for a few exciting minutes, and landing softly on the field below. The instructor led me through the launch and then talked me through the flight. I felt safe from start to finish. I was hooked after that first morning of flying. After the second day I committed to the the Novice (P2) training program. Rob helped me select appropriate equipment. I never got a hard sell on anything--just a helpful explanation of what I was buying and why. Rob nudged me to make the right choices with my safety and satisfaction in mind. I continued the training on the student glider for two more days and returned a few weeks later to claim my equipment and begin training in earnest. I have worked with four different Eagle instructors and each was excellent. Time spent on the hill in Eling Park has been very rewarding. I have especially enjoyed meeting my fellow students from around the country and sharing the training experience with them. While 'Most students are Novice rated in 8-10 days,' I have accumulated a few more training days as I close on my Novice (P2) rating. Rob and the Eagle Paragliding instructors have been very patient and flexible. Conditions are not always right. I have had my share of disappointments due to the fires and mudslides this winter along with occasional uncooperative wind and weather conditions. The Eagle instructors on the hill have provided valuable information and advice as we waited for flying or kiting conditions. Opportunities for learning about the sport abound. With Eagle, I feel that they are serious when they tell us that we are Eagle students for life. In addition to the flight training, the ground training and the reserve clinic were on point. I have already signed up for a SIV (Simulated Incident in Flight) clinic to continue my training later this year. I am a very satisfied customer. read more

Husband and I signed up for one day intro paragliding lesson and wouldn't have done it another way. It was our first time doing anything aerial and we aren't adventurous people. However, we are curious and decided to give it a try. From the beginning Rob was extremely helpful over the phone and email, explaining to me the pros and cons of doing tandem flight with an instructor versus one day lesson. Since we had the time, we decided to learn something new! We met at the Eling flight park at 9am on a beautiful Saturday. There were four other in our group, and we had 2 instructors and an intern that helped us with paperwork (most can be done online) and gear. We started with some dry runs on the ground before taking the basics to the edge of the hill for a real take off. By noon we all got 3-4 runs. We break for lunch (many delicious nearby options), and came back for more flights. We left early around three and each had 8 successful flights (with and without getting into seats). Others stayed as the weather was beautiful and wind was blowing the right way. The instructors were extremely professional, cautious, safety conscious, friendly, and encouraging! Each flight requires an instructor checking all the gear and the glider before take off, throughout the flight he stays in touch with you via walkie talkie, and gives precise easy to follow instruction in a calm manner. Once landed, a van will pick you up and other flyers up to the top of the hill. We felt safe the whole entire time! There are other folks there taking classes or practicing. The community was friendly and warm, we learned so much about paragliding in socal that day! We flew a few flights in the morning, then Rob said if I wanted to continue learning I would have to sign up for their full program. He suggested I go break for lunch and when I returned he had taken the group to another spot without even calling me. I called him and he then suggested I go home because the wind had died down. He said I had the "equivalent" of a full day of flying which I didn't think was fair. Not worth the $375. Really disappointed and feeling like I got ripped off. He seems more interested in getting people to sign for more rather than provide what you pay for. I'd rather put my money somewhere honest. read more

I was taught to paraglide 5 years ago by Eagle Paragliding and I am so grateful that I learned through them. It is very important to go with a school that cares about the student and the safety of the sport...Eagle Paragliding is that school. What an afternoon of fun, thrills, and learning. Every member of the crew, including Princess PK was knowledgeable, supportive and fun. With friends visiting all the way from Tokyo Japan, we wanted to see Santa Barbara from a totally different perspective. We got all that and more!! With reasonable prices, lots of laughter and incredible ocean views we had an amazing time!!! Eagle was totally accommodating and flexible as well as being super informative. We chose to fly tandem, but watching the other solo flyers and hearing their stories (one woman was afraid of heights and had never attempted anything like this before. She shared her story about starting the day terrified and yet by the time we arrived to fly, she was flying solo and doing a great job of it), as well as how the whole Eagle team helped us all feel confident and at ease; our next time we plan to attempt the solo day. At the strong suggestion of a family member who loved learning from Eagle paragliding, I took a Saturday lesson. I enjoyed it so much, I immediately signed up for the Sunday lesson and then signed up for my P2 license after that. The experience with every single staff member at Eagle is positive, supportive, and fun. They inspire confidence in learning a new sport and provide the absolute best environment to accomplish your goals in. They take what could be a nervous or challenging experience and make it exciting and easy to progress in. I appreciate that even on my first day when I was all over the place and a rookie among veterans they made sure I never felt out of place. They and the people around them have an amazing attitude. As I keep going back as a "student for life" to work towards my P2, they show up at the hill as early as I can get there, stay as late as I want, and always are willing to go wait and see if the wind conditions pick up if they are iffy at the start. I started flying with Rob, Ty, Kev and everyone else at Eagle Paragliding over a year ago when my fiancée and I first moved to Los Angeles, and it has proved time and time again to have been the absolute best choice, hands down. I started with a simple day lesson, where I was coached patiently, calmly, and thoroughly and I learned to fly effortlessly....which is no small feat for me, as I am TERRIBLY clumsy! Ty and Farmer were so kind, and so patient and understanding, I felt totally safe, comfortable, and like I had made friends in them after only a few hours of flying. And I was absolutely correct! I've now been flying with them for over a year...and even though I'm signed off and certified as a pilot, I still receive coaching from them and it's still just as calm, friendly, and patient as it was on my first day there. As someone who doesn't learn well under pressure, or when I feel that people around me are growing frustrated with me, I can speak very expertly on how fantastic the instruction was at Eagle. I never felt that I was under any sort of pressure, and I never sensed any frustration in the instructors...and again, this is still true today, 16 months later! I can guarantee anyone that they will absolutely LOVE learning to fly with Eagle, and they are without a doubt the best place to learn from. How could it get any better than learning to actually fly, and to learn that skill from world-class, award-winning paragliders who will coach you with concern, understanding, patience and with a smile the entire time....in all my time with Eagle I don't think I've seen Rob or Ty without a smile on their face. I run a fellow paragliding school in Los Angeles but Rob and Ty are people I consider friends. Their experience in the sport and enthusiasm is a valuable asset. While they may not value the same things I do in instruction that is the benefit of competition, every school offers a different experience to suit all customers. The training hill they use in Santa Barbara is second to none the world over and the gear they use is the latest and greatest is safety and performance. I'm 46 yrs old. I've always wanted to go paragliding. The time finally was right to research a bit (I did a Google search on Paragliding and Santa Barbara), and see what's up out there to get started. Interactive, positive, responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging, patient (I needed that one a lot), passionate, service-oriented instructors are what I encountered. From the initial phone reservation through the last goodbye, this is a group of dedicated instructors who wanted me to experience flight, and knew what it took to get me there safely. I was always helped at my specific stage of the process. I had a specific need with some shoulder injuries, and was given feedback as to what to try. Each instructor had their own style/personality, but worked so well as a team that the total was more than the sum of its parts. On my day, Sunday, there were 2 female & 3 male instructors and each had something unique to add to my learning curve. I really got 5 instructors for the price of 1. Overall, I had a team working with (and for) me. Well worth $200 (the going rate Nationally apparently, and will be applied to your next lesson). Because of that, I learned the basics of paragliding including: safety-first, good habits to establish early, reading the wind, controlling the glider from the ground, launching correctly, smooth flight, and pre-pared landing. I petered out after lunch, but could have kept going if I wanted, and everyone else was still on fire, kiting their sails, and the instructors were right there helping.... then, when the wind started to whip up, their safety-mindedness dictated to hold off the rest of the day... everyone got safely up AND safely down. Just that was a lesson worth tons: don't fly if it's not safe. Top shelf in my opinion. The Eagle have earned their wings, and given me an experience worth waiting for all my life. I was introduced to Eagle Paragliding while attending college at UC-Santa Barbara. I originally intended to just try paragliding once just to say I did it and check it off the list. I had so much fun flying I immediately signed up to train for a novice pilot's license. I came back to fly with Eagle Paragliding every weekend after wards. Rob Sporrer and everyone working with Eagle were more than friendly and made me feel extremely comfortable about flying. They even went out of their way to give me rides from campus to the flying site when I couldn't find a ride. I left Santa Barbara for my home town Anchorage, Alaska with a p2 novice pilot's license. I wasn't sure how to continue paragliding outside of Santa Barbara but Rob had no problem hooking me up with other paragliders I could fly with in Anchorage. I'd give them 0 stars if Yelp would let me. While on a weekend in Santa Barbara I was introduced to Eagle Paragliding through the concierge at The Four Seasons. I was not particularly interested in learning to paraglide, only to go tandem style with an experienced pilot whom I felt safe flying with. After speaking to the owner,Rob Sporrer, he tried to sell me a day of training opposed to going on a tandem flight. He had told me weather conditions were not right that day and then kept telling me how much better a day of lessons would be instead. I left Santa Barbara that weekend without paragliding, yet felt good about the contact I had made and decided to come back sometime, primarily to try it out. Several months passed and I found some time to go back to SB. I had email and telephone correspondence with Rob and felt very comfortable with him, so I decided to do a day of lessons if the wind conditions wouldn't allow for a tandem flight. When I arrived at my lesson Rob Sporrer was not there. Instead his younger brother , by 12 years, was the instructor for the day. I was then left placing my safety in the hands of someone I didn't know. I felt confident that Rob would not associate himself with a careless person and decided to trust that everything would be fine. I was wrong. The first thing that went wrong was that I was not outfitted correctly. My harness straps across my chest, above my groin, and on my legs were not paid attention too and I had problems. The first couple of flights my groin was pulled and made the take-off extremely uncomfortable. It actually gave me an upset stomach and you can imagine the rest. Then, when we had adjusted the leg straps the chest and other strap were neglected subsequently causing the strap to deeply dig into my gut when I launched, leaving a painful bruise for days after. I had to stop and pull down the strap while my kite was up and I was ready to fly. Because I could only focus on the pain and how to stop it, I could not pay attention to much else. Both of my biceps were bruised quite badly which I assume was caused because my arms were forward when taking off and having the straps dig into them, a reaction to the pain I was experiencing due to my groin and/or gut being pulled in. The second thing that went VERY badly had to do with the landings. I have never heard of the word flare except for in the movie "Office Space", and while the young instructor may have touched on it in his morning speech, I certainly didn't understand what it was. I remember expressing concern about landing before my first flight and the kid had told me to just hit the ground running. He didn't mention to pull the handbrakes straight down to my sides. When I landed, my left leg had a tremendous amount of force put onto stand started to cramp up. It wasn't until I was riding in the van after my second run, and told the group the landings were super-rough that I was schooled by other beginners on how to land. Then, about my seventh flight or so, The kid instructed me via radio while in flight to turn so I was flying towards the hill. He then had me land in the same direction the wind was blowing while being very close to the hill. I was unaware that one is supposed to land head-on with the wind in order to make a smooth landing. This landing was so rough that I crashed on my butt and fell on my side and my back took a tremendous amount of force. On the very last run of the day, the kid instructed me to land in the same direction the wind was blowing again, and once again the landing was very rough and I really felt it in my back. After this experience on the drive up the hill, a beginner told me not to land in the same direction of the wind. It seems quite logical and is fundamental to land into the wind when one can, however this is not something I was aware prior to that day and something that was not emphasized, as one would expect it to be, toward a beginner. The kid instructor is far more interested in the competitive side of paragliding, than the recreational. He a punk; not a seasoned and wise person one would hope to have as an instructor. After contacting Sporrer with a friendly, yet informative email and receiving no response I decided to post this so other people can be warned and not have the same experience. Four days after he received my email , there are suddenly Yelp reviews, where there were NONE only days before. I would say this is not a coincidence. I have been icing my back twice daily since being injured under the supervision of Eagle Paragliding with no recovery in sight. I have never had lower back problems in my life until now and believe me they are NOT fun! Unfortunately I signed multiple waivers releasing their company of liability at the start of my day with them or I would be pressing charges. Rob acknowledged for giving me call on Saturday morning to finalize the time depending on coastal conditions for tandem paragliding. I did not received call from them on Saturday and after multiple follow ups they asked me to call Marge, the instructor to schedule something on Sunday . They did not even recognized my name and sounded a bit rude. After speaking to Marge Saturday evening, we finalized 12pm Sunday for flying. But I did not received any call from them yet again and experienced the most pathetic customer service. Did not expected this after reading so many good reviews. Super professional and attentive to safety. We had a blast. It's a little pricey for the limited time you get especially when they have so little overhead, but we did have an absolute blast and felt completely safe at all times! Thanks for a fun experience guys! read more

I learned to fly at Eagle Paragliding last year with Rob, Kevin and Ty, after flying airplanes and making many skydives for 20 years. I can easily say that Eagle provides the best flight instruction that I've ever seen. The guys are all excellent coaches and just all around great people you want to hang out with. Cannot recommend them enough.... I'm planning on taking my three kids up there in the next two weeks. read more
