My friends and I did a walk-in here on a Saturday evening. It was busy, but not too busy that we had to wait long for an aisle to throw some axes. Our instructor was very helpful. He went through the different axes and how to throw each one with either one or two hands. He came by every so often to check on how we were doing and to help fix our form. Dropped in late Saturday afternoon and there was only one guy playing. The front desk guy was friendly, welcoming and helpful. He was so patient with us while teaching us how to axe throw and watching us miserably fail lol but we eventually got our momentum going and it was fun! I noticed the atmosphere has a different vibe to it compared to other axe throwing places. Wha stood out were the plants all over. I was so distracted by them. What we also noticed was the guy didn't warn us about our shoes and I was wearing sandals. Luckily my friend pointed it out and said he shouldve mentioned it. A good friend of mine brought me to SSAC to try out some axe throwing, and we had a blast! Luckily, we didn't have to make any reservations, we were able to walk right in. The staff was thorough and explained how to toss the axes safely. Also gave us some time to practice before throwing on our own. The waiver process is very easy, you fill it out online and you are good to go. They had some cool video games in the back, and there was plenty of space for us to throw some axes. I also appreciate being shown how to play various games while throwing, it was a good time to show who was the best! The doggie on site was cool as well. So much fun, the worker (so handsome btw) was so helpful and attentive! I made a reservation, but we ended up arriving earlier and they were able to accommodate us prior to our reservation time. The employee took the time to explain how to throw each of the axes (there were multiple different sizes/types) and watched each of us throw a few times to make sure that we were doing it correctly, as well as safely. He then allowed us to enjoy our hour and would randomly give us feedback on how to correct our throws, which we really appreciated. We are definitely coming back when visiting Santa Barbara again. This place is so cool! Such a unique experience. I hadn't ever thrown an axe before and the staff made it feel really easy to follow along and understand. It also feels super safe with individual walls in between each throwing stall. It's a great location right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara with lots of parking options around in the public lots. You get a nice intro and practice throwing axes and obviously safety info. Was actually pretty fun, and the more you through, ideally the better you get. Honestly, axe throwing is more entertaining than other activities like mini golf or bowling and state street axe club has great prices. My boyfriend and I came on a Friday night at around 10:30 pm without a reservation (you can reserve a lane online) and was helped out by the owner, Brett. There's an option to play for $25/30 mins or $35/hour per person - so 2 players playing for 1 hour would cost $70. I was blown away with how great the customer service was. The owner Brett is extremely helpful, generous, and funny; the type of guy who wants people to enjoy themselves rather than make a buck. We showed up for a good friend's bday party and had the best time ever! Brett is such a fun guy and the whole crew put us right at ease. I'm not what you'd call adventurous, athletic or skilled in any way so I was shocked when they still put an axe in my hand. And wouldn't you know it, I'm pretty good!! Great Halloween decorations all over with nightmare before Christmas theme. I'm glad that they had fans inside going at all times. Snacks was very helpful in teaching us the games and getting our technique down. We were even given a little booklet to keep score. Me and my homie were in town for a week for a job. We were heading home for the night and walked by state street axe club and we both turned to each other and said ," I've never done this. Always wanted to!" As soon as we said that we both agreed to head in and try it. Lol we were so tired from work and it was kind of late. But we went in anyways and we're greeted by Brett. He was super rad. We paid for half hour. He went thru instructions and over safety with us. He went over how to throw two handed, one handed and how to throw a shovel( it's wild and so different). I'll start by saying I have terrible aim but within about five minutes of practice, I had the method down. The various games make it fun and the hour flew by with the different types of axes and switching between traditional competition games and unique challenges. The vibe in here is really chill. There's no judgement for people like me who can't throw and it's very come as you are. In a dress and heels? No worries, you can still throw. The couple next to us were super dressed up and they crushed it. Such a fun date night. This place looks like so much fun and an awesome way to get out your aggressions ;) However, I did want to give a shout out to Brett, the wonderful owner, for donating a 2 person AND 4 person gift certificate to the DOS PUEBLOS high school After-Prom party! I am the cochair for this worthy cause - we host a big party after prom so the kids have somewhere safe to go! We host it at Bowlero (formally Zodos) and provide games, food, music, photo booths and best of all, tons of amazing prizes. This is all volunteer run so we depend upon the community to donate the prizes so the kids will stay there all night long, until 4 AM, safe and sober with us! Plus what an amazing way to celebrate the end of high school! Brett did not hesitate to offer a donation, responding to me by the following day.
