Huge fan of this place. It's one of the busier Saturday markets. Fresh local veggies? Check. Fresh…read morecaught seafood? Check. Man standing in the middle with a guitar singing Dead covers? Check. Locally grown obscure mushrooms? Check. I love this place and the fact it's less than 10 minutes from my house. I try to come here for all my veggie needs. It's a little more expensive, but you pay for quality. Food doesn't have to ripen on the way to Alaska, so you can actually taste the sweetness and fullness of every vegetable sold here. Open from 9AM-2PM. Get here early. Parking is limited.

I grill these in my special new cast iron oyster skillets! 2 dozen Oysters are a weekly staple during the summer when the markets in full swing. The scene was "booze and books."…read more I mean, how does one not go to an event marketed as such? And then we arrived at this farm we had never heard of. Parked in what felt like someone's front yard. Walked past a bunch of antique farm equipment and a couple green houses to a boxcar situated on a slight rise above a field complete with a tractor turning up hay. (See pics) The boxcar was outfitted with a bathroom, sink, paintings, and a kegerator. They even had a Black Spruce Kolsch I'd never heard of. Lemony and vanilla and DELICIOUS! From the boxcar we walked onto a sunny deck with a host of umbrellas, tables, and chairs and what must have been 40 or 50 people. And books, of course! (Yay, Fireside!) And my instinct said, "why haven't I ever heard of this place? It's gotta have a YELP account." (Spoiler: it didn't) Looked it up on Google and discovered a very tasteful and simple website. Apparently it's available for events (like booze and books) and operates twice weekly as a farmer's market. Definitely coming back for the market!

Part of the historical Roosevelt New Deal, this family was a part of the incentive to come out from Wisconsin and live and grow a farm full of produce. Stay 3 years and the land becomes yours. Three generations Dave and Michelle Church are still there and show you what is unique to Alaska gardening! Root beer was amazing and I got a beautiful Amethyst necklace.
