We purchased a dozen donuts here, two of each bar (maple & chocolate), two chocolate glazed, two lemon filled, two cream filled bear claws, and two of their signature mochi donuts. I can only attest to the lemon filled, bear claw, and the mochi donuts, but all three were excellent. A bit on the pricy side, but the quality makes them worth it. The service was excellent, we arrived there early morning and the server was attentive and acquiesced to our requests when some of the donuts we wanted were still in the back, with prompt and quality service. We were trying to go to another donut shop but saw this little shop in the strip mall. I wanted donuts so we came here. So glad we did because they have Mochi donuts! I don't know where else in Anchorage/Alaska you can get these. I walked in and I think the owner was in the back and he greeted me. He was very nice. It was about 10:30 ish and there weren't too many options to choose from. No sprinkled or French crullers. However I got two of the mochi donuts, a pumpkin spice and an apple. Both were very good. Very messy though. I wasn't sure what donut was what because the labels were in the front and many were out. Was happy we stopped by and will definitely return for the mochi donuts. Cute shop too. I didn't get the chance to go in. I was in the car with the kiddo. But my wife said he was super friendly, and the place was very clean. As for the taste, I absolutely loved the mochi donut! We got the apple one and the pumpkin. I'm guessing seasonal favorites. I will say there was a place in San Jose that used to make donuts like this and I freaking love them. They would have a line out the door and around the corner all day. Every day was pleasantly surprised to see this. They have a fireweed version which I really want to check out next time we go. Also got a maple bacon bar unfortunately I have to compare this to what I called the original from voodoo donuts it was very good. Our first time there and mind you it was around 1100 but the donuts look like they were a day old. The donuts were crumbly not soft. Maybe it's just their way but it's not what we're use to, we love soft donuts. The only thing my child enjoyed was the marshmallow. He took a bite of the actual donut and was done with it. Their flaming brown sugar boba was great! If you want something very sugary, yes this is it and yes, I love sugary drinks. Though, I wouldn't make the drive mainly due to their decor. I understand we're in Alaska, Last Frontier, but I particularly didn't enjoy seeing a cub's hide on the wall. This might be Eagle River's first true donut shop. It's not quite two years old and still very quaint and unassuming. It could do with a good steady cleaning but it doesn't scream off the traditional donut shoppe. You won't see the Royal Elite here, but in some ways, that's actually good news! What you will see is a modest display of donuts in a small case (sorry no coffee). If Denali (apologies if I misspelled that) is here, she will try to sell you on their signature donut "the grizzly". I'm told it's the size of a pie. The quality is so-so. Some things like the custard filled long John are spot on, their fritters tend to be dry. The servers are polite and at 7:30 on a rainy Friday morning, there is no line. The location is horrible for both foot traffic and motorists passing-by. They should do alright with local community support, but a steady flow of visitors could launch them skyward. We will return and I'm optimistic that we will see this become a four star review on my update. 07/22 read more

Donuts were soft and wonderful as they should be! The Apple fritter you can taste the apple. It's one of the better apple fritters Iv had in years. The Ube and Matcha donut rings were light and lovey in flavor. My only criticism/comment for knocking a star off is two fold: 1. The filled eclair was not filled all the way through(less than half full). Donut had no room for filling to get in. The filling that was in there was delicious! 2. The chocolate glazes and even the ube/matcha glaze were not set at all. (Could be they were fresh even for 9am on weekday) but it made for very messy hands even for an adult. read more

Eagle River's first dedicated donut shop has arrived! Tons of fun flavors to choose from, and they seem to be coming up with new ideas every day! The place is simply decorated, but they have a cute wall decorated with donut wallpaper that's very photogenic. The staff is friendly, and the owners are very nice. Most importantly the donuts are very delicious. This place just opened August 16th, and the first two weeks they were selling out before 1pm so it won't hurt to call if you want to make sure they have donuts if you plan to go later in the day. They are waiting for a new fryer that will be able to make more donuts at once so hopefully they will help keep them in stock longer & later in the day. I went at 10am on a Tuesday and they still had plenty of fun flavors to chose from, but did have some empty spots in the display case. I got 2 maple bacon bars, a classic chocolate iced with sprinkles, a chocolate iced with a white icing drizzle, apple fritter & a Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut. My favorite was the maple bacon bar, but they all were delicious. The donut is very moist and light. The different flavored icings are really good. I'm happy with the flavor selection, and check their Facebook page frequently to see what new concepts they put out. I forgot to get photos of the pricing, but the "fancy" donuts are $2.25 a piece & the apple fritter is $3. I believe there is a slight discount if you order a dozen. They do have some breakfast drink options like OJ, but are not set up for full coffee bar service so keep that in mind if you're looking for a latte to go with your donuts. Well, generally I wouldn't even stop in this area for anything. But the place in Wasilla that I use was closed, and it was my day to pickup work snacks. Friendly people, even at 5:40 am. Shop seemed clean, however it was super had to see since the sign does not, or was not lit up. Now for the stuff.. 2 dozen plus an up charge for 3 fritters, tip, card fee. $75.22 holy smokes, mind blown. Place in Wasilla is $42 plus 20% tip, oh well hopefully they are good. I think the types, designs, and ideas are great. I found the doughnut itself to be heavy and thick. I did hear that the Apple fritter was amazing, and the bacon maple was also amazing. We flew into Anchorage a few days ago. Our son graduated college and decided our family trip would be to Alaska (we are from Ohio), so here we are! We stayed the night on Alaska and were looking for a casual stop for donuts the next morning. My daughter is a boba connoisseur, so we searched for donuts and found that they also had boba so it was a win. Only my hubby and daughter went in but came out with huge smiles. My daughter picked the donuts and got boba. Hubby came back with plain and jalapeño kolache. I wasn't she if I could handle the jalapeño, but dang it was amazing. My daughter's favorite donut was the fruity pebbles and my son's was the Kit Kat. Needless to say, I did not get any donuts that day, the kids polished them off in less than an hour. We went to Denali and came back to Anchorage for a short stay until our next venture. Our daughter insisted we go back to Grizzly donuts. This time, I went inside. We were treated with a tasting of a blueberry cake donut, which was terrific. Sadly, we missed the boat on the kolache, ugh. We of course picked up some more donuts. I can't wait to try the cinnamon roll! I also chose a glazed (my favorite and I am choosy), I couldn't wait on that one. I polished it off. Sooo soft, light, and fresh. Wow. My hubby loved his Father's Day, maple bacon donut. What else could you want? They said they are going to be making some fireweed donuts soon. Was new to anchorage and wanted to look around and see if there was any good spots to go get a sweet snack, and Grizzly's did not disappoint! The owners are so sweet and always give great service. Heard good things, read reviews, decided to swing by. I would say the more middle of the road reviews are more accurate. Scaling something up isn't always easy, this small business has good foundation but there is room for improvement. The biggest - the batter, it seems to be the same type of dough / batter used across all donut types. I think they are trying to figure out operations and maximize quality vs time to bake. I am guessing they make the batter at night, freeze, and bake in the morning, which is why all the dough(nuts) are similar. Some need to be fluffy while others more of a cake, these are all the more of a cake style - chewy & spongy. Also, the atmosphere was basic but for a new business that is to be expected. In the end not dissatified, room for improvement but optimistic for this small business. read more

Our third and last time trying this place. The last two visits we gave them the benefit of the doubt, the business was new. But by now they have been open about 2 years and are still sub-par. The variety of donuts available is not impressive, very few to choose from. And most are not appealing (one covered in fruity pebbles, another in crushed up Biscoff cookie dust). They don't even have the basics, like jelly-filled, maple, or chocolate. Just a few strange flavors. All their donuts are small, dry, and have a thin, half-hearted layer of glaze. For the prices, you really would expect better. They have "free" coffee on offer that tastes like jet fuel mixed with liquid tar that you can only drink in flimsy paper cups with no lids. There are only 2 tables inside the restaurant to eat, and one was taken up by the employees so paying customers had to take their donuts to go. It's such a claustrophobic space, you wouldn't want to stay there anyway, way too awkward. You're better off getting donuts at a grocery store. read more
