He charged me $60 the first time I went in and he should have not even tested me when my car read "not ready" but he's a crook, so unfriendly and a liar, so he did anyway. Not coming back any more... My kids will never come back, my neighbors, or my friends. Many other places to choose from. Was coming to this place for years since it opened. Charged me for a retest when I could have been told the initial visit that my car wasn't ready to be tested yet, since it recently got worked on and still needed to be driven 40-50 miles. A quick check of the sensors or set of questions, which happened after the fact, should have been done upfront!!! SMH -Did you recently change your battery or had a jump? -Did you recently have your car worked on? I would have just came back when the car was ready and the vehicle sensors were ready to be tested, instead of being charged twice. Now I'm never coming back. This is how you know a company is thirsty. I did not know that if you have a check engine light on your car it will automatically fail a smog check but all smog companies know this. Instead of having some integrity of informing you of this information they will take your car in knowing it will fail and take your money in the process. Owner stated that "there is a free retest if I fail the first test" and stamped my failed smog test with the retest times to come back. When I returned he charged me an additional $20! I reminded him that he promised me a free retest and he replied, "where does it say free retest?!" Again, I reminded him of our agreement when he stamped my test. This place deserves no stars!! Please avoid!!!!! Recently, they have really changed - everyone has told me the same. I came to this place a few years ago and it was okay -nope! not anymore. George, the owner is hands down very rude guy. I went in for a standard a smog check, and left the place feeling ripped off. My mechanic told me that nothing is wrong with the my car and it should pass the smog check with flying colors. George told me that it did not pass, and if i want to retest - i would have to pay again. Before, 2 years ago he did not charge for retest. I have called around and most places don't charge retests. He is trying to work the system. I understand that he is running a business, however, it seems that he is ripping people off. He ended my visit with a recommendation to drive my car for 300 miles or "god knows how long" he said. I driven my car 3 hours nonstop before i took it in, and there is no check engine light on? He was just being an ass because i was calling him out on it. Anyways - just trying to save you an inconvenience, disappointment and money. I had my car "smog checked" here again for the third time now and I've had no problems. The waiting area is nice and the AC was turned on so it wouldn't be so hot. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my DMV paperwork with me, but I could still do the test. On average, it has taken my car 20 minutes for the test (make sure to bring DMV papers or your car's registration, or else it takes a bit longer). It usually takes 20 or so minutes, but it took 5 minutes longer bit longer this time because they had to manually fill in the paperwork due to me not having my DMV papers. It seems like the only reason people have their cars fail is if their mechanic has messed with the car. If you've had work done recently, I would recommend making sure that none of your car's lights are still on, and tell the person who is doing the test about it. I got $10 off for being a returning customer here, so that was nice. The wait wasn't too long. My car passed so I really have no complaints. read more

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews! It's true that the $10 off coupon puts you at the same price as all the other smog places, but doesn't anyone check prices before they go? I elected to use Eagle a few years ago because they were the location closest to my work. Went on lunch in 2012, smog passed and they sent my certificate to the DMV electronically. I also asked for a paper copy as a backup. In 2014 I went again. Same nice guy, same good service. BUT in 2015 I moved out of state and needed the smog certificate from last year in order to register my car. The owner had the 2014 certificate printed out and ready to go (even though they 'expire' in 90 days) which is more than I can say for myself as I must have lost the last one. Thank God he keeps track of those records so I didn't have to slog through paperwork at the California DMV. read more

I went there 2 years ago and was treated fairly but not this time. After what I experienced I would give a negative star rating if I could. Now keep in mind, I have an old van that looks kind of rough on the outside but is in good condition mechanically. The fact is that a lot of smog test guys don't want to test these old vehicles because they actually have to do some work....there is no computer to plug into to make it easy for them. In addition, a place like Eagle that offers a free retest really doesn't want to test a vehicle that looks like it might not pass the first time. As I'm getting out of my van the guy comes up to me and and tells me that he can't test it because their machine is broken so I need to go someplace else or come back tomorrow. Now I can clearly see that there are people in the waiting room and a couple of cars in the bay but since Eagle apparently dabbles in tire repair too I figure they must be tire customers. So I come back the next day. This time I make it into the waiting room and the guy starts asking me if I have the receipts from the mechanic for the timing adjustment etc. I tell him that I have no idea what he is talking about as the vehicle hasn't been tested yet and he just gets this confused look on his face and says he thought he had already tested it. Anyway, so he takes my info, gets the keys, and attempts to drive the van in the the smog check bay. That's when things start to go awry. Due to laziness or incompetence (perhaps both) the guy doesn't bother to make sure that the rear wheels are centered on the rollers so then when the rollers lift up, the van slides off one side and becomes jammed up against some of the smog test equipment. Since the van can't be moved forward or back without causing more damage to the van (and more importantly to them their test equipment) the guy proceeds to jack up the vehicle in an attempt to slide it over so that he can back it out. By this time he is also being helped by another guy (the shop owner..I think) and much yelling ensues. It was actually pretty comical, to watch except for the fact that as I found out later they were actually causing damage to the van. It takes them about 15 minutes to slide the van to the side enough so they could back it out. At that point I notice a nice new dent in the front door, so I ask the guy what happened to the front door and he says "we can't test your van because it's jumping into reverse". When I remind the guy that I was watching from the waiting room and I never saw it jump into reverse he shows me a bruise on his arm and says he got it from the van when it jumped into reverse. There was clearly an implied threat there...i.e if I push the issue about the damage to my vehicle then he might sue me for the injury. Ok....so these guys really don't want to test my van and they just want me to go away. NIce. So I do take the van (and my business) somewhere else and it passes with flying colors. The mechanic found nothing wrong with the transmission....he just said that the guy at Eagle probably doesn't understand how to shift an automatic transmission. Funny...but probably true. The bottom line is that based on what I experienced this establishment is run by people who are dishonest and incompetent. If you value your vehicle you are strongly advised to take it someplace else. read more

Stay away from this place at all costs. Avoid it like the plague. In all truthfulness, I would seriously give Eagle Smog Check a negative rating if I could and will never go back to this place again. I am so done with this guy. Like an idiot, I didn't check Yelp before trying this place, which was a huge mistake. The attendant guy is arrogant and rude and has a definite chip on his shoulder. Who needs that on a freakishly hot summer day, right?? I walked into this establishment and told the inexplicably gruff attendant that I needed a smog check and he asked me if I had had any recent repair work done on the vehicle. I told him that I had just had an oil change and tune-up and was then bluntly informed by him that the car might not pass the test for that reason, which made no sense at all to me, so I asked him to explain why that would be the case, which he refused to do. He simply pointed to a sign on the wall and told me that it was posted in three different places on his wall. I read the sign, but it did not explain his oblique statement and did not in any way whatsoever address my question, which I told him, but he arrogantly and stubbornly refused to explain his statement. I asked him to go ahead and perform the test because it was a Sunday and I wanted to get the test over and done with, and so he did. Needless to say, I was not surprised when my vehicle didn't pass. He also informed me that my calalytic converter had been "tampered" with, which was odd because no one had ever mentioned that to me in he past and I had never had any problems before passing a smog test. I tell you, I got a very weird vibe from this guy. He has some very serious communication problems, and because of our initial little misunderstanding, I got the very distinct impression that Mr. Crankypants was never going to let my vehicle pass the test, even though he said that I could bring it back for a free retest. I had some smog work done on my car as a result of this guy's assessment, and I in fact told the mechanics to just go ahead and install a brand new converter in order to avoid any future problems. After that was accomplished, I took the car back to this joker and asked him to retest it, which he refused to do. He said that I had to bring it back on a weekday so that he could call the DMV in Sacramento to confirm that the new equipment was the right one for my vehicle. I asked him if he could just check the part and write down the number and then call Sacramento on Monday so that I wouldn't have to miss work to take it back on a weekday. I even volunteered to have my mechanics call him to tell him what kind of equipment they had installed on the vehicle. Of course he refused to do that. It would be too easy, right? No way was he going to let me get off easy. I then requested that he simply perform a retest to see if the car would pass this time, but he refused to do that too. I tried to reason with him, but he told me in no uncertain terms that he wasn't going to argue with me or retest the vehicle. By that time, I realized that I was wasting my breath. That creep was not going to go out of his way to help me or make things potentially easier for me. I had also realized by that time of course that Mr. Man had a real personal issue with me. It was clear to me that he was determined to make it as hard for me as possible by forcing me come back a third time on a swelteringly hot weekday just to irritate me. Save your money, please, and stay away from this place. There are enough other Star stations out there with good Yelp reviews, and if I had just checked Yelp before making a move, I am sure that I would not have had to endure this level of aggravation because I would've avoided this place like the plague. I got nowhere with this stubborn and inflexible character, and I realize now that I never would. I seriously doubt that he would ever have passed my vehicle, which is why I'm taking it next weekend to a Star station which is closer to my home and has far better Yelp reviews. Let this be a lesson to you, people! NEVER make a move without checking out the business first on Yelp. I unfortunately had to learn that the lesson the hard way. This is the 2nd time I've used Eagle Smog Check. I'm paying for a smog test and that's what I got. Job was completed quickly and without drama. I sat in a nice wait room while they got down to the job I paid them to perform. Not sure why people expect to have fantastic service for a simple standard routine test. As for the cost, I was charged the exact amount as they have advertised on their web site, which is $58 including the SMOG Certificate, assuming you present the coupon from their website. I'm actually reviewing my daughter's visit to Eagle. My husband and I have been going here for years with no complaints. Sure, they are not very warm and fuzzy, but they get the job done and they are convenient. When my daughter went last week, I sent her with a $10 off coupon. They ran the test and charged her $68 (for the test and certificate). She said she was told she couldn't use the coupon. I later checked the coupon to make sure there wasn't an expiration date (there wasn't), and when I checked the invoice and credit card receipt, I noticed that the invoice was for $58 but her credit card was charged $68! I went the next day to ask them what happened. The owner immediately apologized, opened his cash drawer and handed me $10. He then apologized two more times. So, gotta give them credit for making things right, but just saying better check your paperwork before you leave! read more

My major complaint is in regards to the price. Just what are you supposed to pay for a standard smog test? The stated price over the phone was $50.00. I brought in a $10.00 off coupon. I have to agree with all of the other 1 star reviewers as my experience was very similar. One reviewer wrote about Mr. Crankypants, which is a perfect name for the head guy. They referred to him as "arrogant and rude and has a definite chip on his shoulder", I couldn't agree more. I understand if my car doesn't pass for whatever reason, and in no way blame you, but what would really be useful, and would save both of us a lot of frustration, is a clear explanation of what the problem is. I was told to call my dealership, which I did, and the dealership asked me for the monitor codes that didn't pass... What? I had no idea what they were talking about and was told I should have been given that information. I then started to do some research online regarding monitors failing, and OBD drive cycles, and came across this very useful youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YcOdYJzIzQ I followed this as closely as I could, and went back the next day, and passed the smog check. All the attendant has to say, is to look up OBD drive cycles for your make and model, so that you can reset your monitors and come back to be retested. It is actually fairly simple and took about 30 minutes to do. This guy really seems to get off on treating people rudely. He was very surprised to see me come back a day later and pass. When I mentioned putting my car through the drive cycles, his eyes got wide. When we wrapped things up, he said, 'see you the next time'. Um, no. read more

Although I am a long-time customer of Eagle, something has gone wrong. They are not only incompetent, they are uncooperative and borderline malicious. Under no circumstances would I ever do business with this place again. I even had my mechanic come in to explain how a Porsche engine works, but the Eagle guy was so ego-involved and so arrogant that he refused to listen. I came here to get a smog check a couple months ago and had a pretty bad experience. They were not friendly and not very helpful. I knew that my car was not going to pass the test, but needed to get it done anyway in order to renew my registration. I came here because they had a deal that if you didn't pass the first smog test, you could come back for your second one for free! Unfortunately, no one there told me that it had to be within 30 days! It took me over a month to figure out what was wrong with my car, but finally once it was fixed when I came back to get my "FREE SMOG TEST," they broke the news that it had to be before 30 days. Plus, they were VERY rude. I would not recommend for anyone to go here. Tri-star oil change and car wash which is close by was by far way more helpful and friendly, go there instead. read more

I've actually taken my car to Eagle for the past several smog checks. I have always been helped by the same man. He's never been pleasant, but I always chalked it up to him being there alone and being busy. However, when I recently took my car in for its smog check, it didn't pass. He did show me what the issues were and sent me to a mechanic he recommended but, without even examining my car, he told me I was going to need a tune up that would cost several hundred dollars and that he could not guarantee that would do the trick. So I took my car to a mechanic I trust. They tried to fix the issue with a less expensive option. I took the car back to Eagle for a retest and the guy seemed annoyed that I was back, even though they offer a free retest. He questioned me about what had been done by my mechanics. Even though I was the first one there, he took another customer back for a smog check before retesting my car. Sadly, the car did not pass again. The guy at Eagle angrily told me he would give me "one more chance". I told him I would not be bringing my car back there. My mechanic did some more work and took it to his recommended smog check facility where it did pass. Let me make this very clear. My review is not because my car did not pass. My car is old and I understand there are going to be issues. My review is based on the way I was treated by the employee of Eagle Smog Check. I will not be going there in the future. read more
