The service is always friendly and quick. Even has a more modern kids menu for families with picky kids. EBS loved this place and ranked it high on his list so that tells you how good the food is. We had such a lovely candlelit lunch here. I'm a sucker for historic menus and old-timey settings so the Eagle Tavern was right up my alley. This spot is nestled in Greenfield Village on Main Street. The menu features some seasonal and historical offerings like pork and apple pie (more like a stew), homemade dumplings, corn muffins with apple butter, sarsaparilla and roasted sweet potatoes to make a free. They were very kid-friendly with booster and high chairs and sweet staff. Our food came out quickly and everyone is treated to complimentary bread, whipped butter, apple butter and homemade pickles. Where do I start.... I'm not sure who hired Tim the bartender but please save yourself time and money and DO NOT order from Eagle Tavern. Tim was beyond rude. When we walked up to the bar (we were the only people standing there) it was as if we were invisible. We placed an order and he rolled his eyes, slammed the glass down and violently made our drinks. It was so bad that the menu sitting on the bar was soaked. It had gotten to the point where I simply asked "how is your day going?" Because of his blatant attitude. After paying he gave us no eye contact slammed the remaining balance on the bar and walked away. Tim you should be ashamed of your rude poor customer service. I know the theme is supposed to reflect the 1800s but does that mean the attitude has to reflect that time period? Was this role play? Do better Eagle Tavern. read more

After being members of the Henry Ford for a few years, we finally checked this place out this past year. It was pouring down rain outside late summer in my kids, and I were looking for something warm out of the weather to do and we were all a little peckish. We were able to walk in the Eagle Tavern for lunch and get a table pretty fast. The first thing I noticed about the Eagle Tavern was the lighting. It was very dark clothing for you and get your seats. I imagine this place in the fall probably has roaring fires, but it was a warm summer day, so I understand that they weren't lit, even though it was a little bit chilly after being rained on. We all shared one entrée because we were hungry, but not starving. We mainly wanted food to warm us up. my kids absolutely loved seeing people in period attire, and all the unique tables, chairs, antique servingware, and decor. I got assuming hot cup of coffee and my kids really enjoyed the hot apple cider. I try to serve their cider and it really was good. Each entrée comes with a neat little bread plate and homemade pickles. There were multiple types of bread on the bread plate. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the working provides some of the vegetables for the meals. It was very moody lighting with candles, but also probably period specific and appropriate. We got the roast beef with potatoes and veggies. It was slightly bland. I think it probably could've used a little bit more salt, but it was delicious. Like I said we weren't incredibly hungry so we didn't get dessert. I am looking forward to coming back and trying the rustic apple pie or the orange cake. The Eagles Tavern is a little bit more spendy than other places at Greenfield Village, but I recommend trying it at least once. You probably need reservations and more busy times but we were there on a weekday in the summer during lunch so we were able to walk right in. As a note - the Eagles Tavern usually has dinners for the holiday nights that Greenfield Village hosts. They are usually pretty expensive with a set menu, but they make it really special with the decor and usually there is some kind of drawn carriage to get there from the front of the park. I have come for dinner here the last 2 years for both Halloween Weekends and Holiday Nights (aka in October and December). Both events are so much fun. The staff of Eagle Tavern does a good job of getting us all into the atmosphere of the Tavern and what we would've expected in the 1850s as far as food and service goes. Eagle Tavern is completely able to handle my gluten free requirements even during these 2 huge events. Most of the food that is provided are gluten free. The one major exception is the dessert course. For the last 2 years, during both events, the dessert has been an Apple crisp. It has been made of apple pie filling with an oatmeal crisp on tip. If anything, it has looked better then what the main dessert has been. During the events, there is a bar available for people to purchase a drink or 2. Each time there has been 2 custom alcoholic drinks and one non-alcoholic. The prices have been reasonable. There is also always a show along with the dinner. Normally it has just been the "travelers " working to earn their dinner. The 2 fall events are always fun. I will definitely be back for them in the future read more

We were concerned about finding good food while attending the OCF this year. The Eagle Tavern, built in 1831-32 and moved later the Greenfield Village solved that issue. It was a bigger meal than we were looking for, but that allowed us to skip dinner and have ice cream later. We had a 15ish minute wait that went by quickly because of all of the gorgeous cars that were there. Seated 8 to a table gave us a chance to make new friends while we waited for our meal. They unfortunately had run out of the pork with horseradish sauce, but that allowed my second choice of beef with tomatoes. My wife had the trout. Both were served with corn on the cob and potatoes. The corn was delicious, well the whole meal was. I want to go back someday to try the pork now. The inside has light thru the windows and candles on the table, to recreate what it was like in the first half of the 1800's, the staff is dress in period correct clothing. The only thing out of place are the patrons dressed in modern clothes with our cell phones! The tavern is one part of a larger, spectacular village that Henry Ford had the vision and wherewithal to create with the historical fabric of our young nation. Located within Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Museum (separate admission prices), the restaurant emulates an eatery in 1850, right down to decor, menu, service and costumes. My partner had the roasted chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't that hungry, so ordered the smallest thing on the menu, a charcuterie platter, which was very good, high quality, even included venison sausage. Went here for the 12/23/2025 Christmas dinner. The building was smoky I think someone didn't open fireplace flue properly. It was so smoke filled I heard a caroler say they could not sing in the smoke so employees opened a door to try to air it out. My coat smells so smoky from this restaurant I will have to send it to the dry cleaners. Not the environment I wanted for this very anticipated meal but that was just the start of a bad experience. The food was disgusting. The meat was so tough and salty I would not feed it to a dog. The gingerbread cake was so hard and dry it was inedible. The cake should be used as a doorstop not a dessert. It is also served family style so my food is handled by a group of strangers before I get it. I sure hope everyone washed their hands. I understand that they are trying to give a Christmas past experience but I don't want my food to mirror food of the 1600s. I waited and actually became a member of the Henry Ford to get a reservation to this restaurant and feel like a total fool. There are so many good restaurants in Detroit that you can eat at first before going to Greenfield Village Christmas nights and actually get a great meal for $100.00 per person. I've always wanted to experience a meal at the Eagle Tavern. This past Halloween (season), I decided to take the plunge and do it. Because of Covid restrictions, they only accepted parties of six or more. Being a group of four, I had to find another couple to join us in order to make this happen. I found some friends and booked us a table at the 6:00 seating. The experience was underwhelming. I'm not sure if my expectations were too high, but for $60/person (tickets were $81.25, but included entrance to the village for Halloween), I certainly expected more. Activities - The description mentioned parlor games, spooky stories, fortune-telling, music and surprises. One of those five things actually happened. There was a strolling violinist who played music before dinner, which was quite enjoyable. As far as "parlor games", perhaps they meant for the skeletons that were set up in the parlor of the building (see photo). The evening's host was a lovely man, who came over and shared one funny story with our table, but there were no spooky stories at all. The fortune teller was non-existent and the only "surprise" was the mediocracy of the food served. Food- I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt here and think perhaps the food was bland because it was prepared in a historical manner. The bottom line, however, is that we felt sick at how much we paid for food we truly did not enjoy. Especially when we asked for more tiny rolls and were told they cooked only enough for one per person. Of everything we ate, only the pumpkin pie and soup were something I'd say were good. Atmosphere - This is where this experience shined. I loved the setup and the historical feel of the room and staff. The candles, place settings and music were enjoyable. Being that this was something we'd always wanted to try, I'm satisfied that we did. I can not, however, say that I would recommend it or do it again. First of all, their hours are when Greenfield village is open, Tuesday through Sunday starting at 11. They close at 3. I am posting the current menu, which changes in June for the summer and in September for the fall. This is one of the best restaurants you'll ever eat in. They serve an appetizer dish with all entrees, which is currently pickles, and bread, butter, and jelly. They can make most entrees gluten free, and they have gluten free blueberry muffins! They have kosher/halal meats and vegetarian entrees as well. The kids menu is separate and you can ask for it. You eat at common tables so you may enjoy dinner with people from around the world. The room is open and looks like an inn from the turn of the century. The entrees are always wonderful, as is the soup. Salads are available too, but we don't often get those. The servings are very generous and both the bread bowl and the appetizers are all you can eat. We had the chicken and the roast pork, both gluten free and both delicious. The side carrots were not too soft, and the potatoes were well seasoned. The jelly for the breads is not to be missed! We also loved the pickles with onions. We love the Eagle Tavern and have never had a bad meal there. read more

Honestly, this has been on my food bucket list for a couple decades and we finally made it here! It was excellent. Even the kids were surprised how delicious it was. The people greeting you outside are dressed in traditional garb and sell the place by saying eating candle light in the 1850's here and eating in 2023 is next door. While the menu is small and limited we decided to try it, plus the greeters let us know there was actually a kiddy menu with mac and cheese and nuggets and adults do occasionally order off of it, no judgement. But we wanted the authentic experience. It is a little like dining at the Harry Potter restaurants at Universal, oddly enough, gives Hogwarts vibes, we love it! We sat at a community table with one lone candle. The wait staff was dressed in traditional costuming and all very pleasant and accommodating. I started with a Pimm's Cup, which I love and really was what drew me in here since most places do not have that on their menu. It was such a great price! Plus, it was really tasty. I had not know that this was a traditional cocktail of the time. I have been missing out on their delicious cocktails all of this time! The kids got the effervescent strawberry drink. We got the pitcher which was so huge, it took three of us to drink it all plus we had enough for a carry out cup. The kids love that the straws are made out of noodles, that is their favorite thing about this place. I am not sure how authentic the strawberry drink is, but it was refreshing and a great price for large amount. They served delicious rolls and corn bread with butter and bread and butter pickles. So good! Then we got the cold meats and cheese charcuterie plate. It was pork and venison with pickled eggs, mustard, and crispy bread. Very good. We tried the dumplings with peas and onions and corn on the cob. So good! I could eat that every week it was so good. That greeter outside told us to try the fish. It was trout and insisted it was the best trout we would ever try. He was right! It was perfectly cooked with potatoes and corn. I loved all of the choices. They do offer carryout container, since there is a lot of food. Lastly one child really wanted to get the pie, so we split the peach pie slice with fresh whipped cream. It was so good, even the crust was flavorful. Overall a top notch experience. If you are a member, they do discount the meal minus the cocktail. So it was worth going. Solid four stars for hospitality and immersive experience but the food wasn't very good to be honest. While I did enjoy the squash soup and the complements like the interesting bread, dallop of butter and preserves, and pickles, the roast was so tough I actually complained about it which is something I really don't often do, maybe once or twice every two or three years. To their credit, they did bring me another serving which was better but it still was fairly rough. I would have been happier with a few beers and the soup and maybe some of the side items but I found the roast to be a complete waste of good money. If you're looking for a culinary experience that will have you reminiscing fondly about your last Mc Rib, this is the place for you! Let's start with the food. Imagine a meal so bland and uninspired that it makes McDonald's looks like a Michelin-starred masterpiece in comparison. My taste buds are still in therapy trying to recover from the flavorless assault. The "signature" dishes must be signature for their ability to make you question your life choices. As for the service, let's just say it was as present as the flavor in our food. Our server seemed to be competing in a hide and seek championship, and he was definitely winning. And the prices? Well, I hope the extra cost goes towards compensating the staff for their Houdini-level disappearing acts. I've been a Henry Ford Museum member for most of my life, which means I've tried all of their restaurants many times over. Eagle Tavern is always my preference to take visitors to or simply to enjoy a nice meal. Yes, it's a little pricey, but it's really quite reasonable given it's a table service restaurant at a major attraction. And the quality and service are always quite excellent. Everything is homemade and they try their best to use authentic recipes of the time. I highly recommend the soups, which are usually quite excellent. On my last trip, I tried the roast chicken, which came with a half chicken covered in a nice creamy sauce, along with green beans and potatoes. The portion size was huge, the chicken was very moist and the sauce was delicious. Keep in mind the time period for the food - you're not going to find highly spiced food here - most of the options will be relatively bland but usually well prepared. All the meals are served with a bread bowl that includes rolls, corn muffins and blueberry muffins, along with fresh butter and a seasonal jam. They also serve bread and butter pickles and sometimes other pickled vegetables complimentary. Service is usually excellent, and was especially good on my last visit. They don't mind if you only order soup. Seating is communal at tables that seat eight. They will usually try to give you a table on your own unless seating starts filling up, then another party may be sat at your table - usually one party at either end.j read more

Attending a wedding reception on Friday. The tables decorated with candles and real flowers. Wait staff brought trays of finger food like chicken on little skewers, delicious mini egg rolls, a puff as we waited outside for wedding party to arrive. Very classy and it hit the spot as we had our drinks with us. The Neal was prepared to perfection snd sides very complimentary to main course. All staff was so friendly and attentive always smiling. This is the only place in Michigan (in the world?) where you can dine on authentic 1850s' fare in an 1850s era tavern. Like a real tavern of the era, the drinks are more plentiful than the fare. But boy is that fare good! Between us, our party of six enjoyed pasta with sausage, greens, and butternut squash, a cheese and meat plate, squash soup, a (huge) green salad, and beef stew. Our meal included homemade pickles, rolls, and muffins, and we opted for sarsaparilla soda to drink. This was a fantastic restaurant that was in Greenfield Village in Michigan. It is patterned after the restaurant started by a man by the name of Calvin Wood in 1850. It retains much of the old style in the setup and decor of the restaurant as well as how the staff dresses. It has lot's of old time period accurate food. We started with an appetizer of Melted Cheese On Toast. It was little like mini toast pieces with what tasted like provolone and maybe one other cheese. It was really good and not something you'd find at most other restaurants. For my main course I tried the Chicken Breast With White Gravy. There was also a half ear of corn on the side. The chicken was juicy and delicious and the gravy was definitely flavourful as well. The corn was fine as well. I also tasted the drink Sasparilla for the first time and found it very tasty. It is soft drink similar in taste to root beer but was had a very licorice like flavour to this. I normally don't like licorice flavour but loved it in this context. This place is a little on the pricey side but you're paying for an experience as well as made from scratch food so I'd say it's probably fair market. It was a great touristy type of place that I really enjoyed. read more

Then, you get your meal, which comes with a side dish that they will keep refilling, if you ask. The menu changes seasonally; in spring, they usually have chicken and grilled fish, plus a red meat. I love this place. The atmosphere is perfect, the staff is perfect, and the food is excellent. The kids menu didn't appeal to our grandkids on the day that we went but I imagine that it would on most days. My picky granddaughter didn't care for her meal and the waitress quickly replaced it. I've visited this restaurant several times now and I never get tired of it as it's one of the most unique dining experience you will ever have anywhere. This place is like time traveling back to 1850 with the costumed servers, period style food and beverages. Seating is communal in the dining room or you can get a bite in the bar area up front. The menu changes seasonally and is posted on their website so check it out before you go to get a feel for what it has to offer. As far as drinks - check out the Calvin - Rum, Amaretto and Sasparilla. So good and refreshing and you drink it through a pasta straw. Cool touch. Maybe it was because my girlfriend and I were having such a wonderful time in Greenfield Village, but my expectations were slightly elevated for this place. Starting with the staff, everyone was very pleasant and knowledgeable, except our waitress. She was certainly nice enough, but disappeared after serving us and only refilled water once. The gentleman outside knew quite a bit about Greenfield in general, but specifically the tavern. He was fantastic. Unfortunately, he was the only fantastic part of the tavern. The Cider, which was suggested by the waitress, tasted more like White Wine than Cider, and was not good. The fish (trout if I remember correctly) was very salty, and the sauce given was flavorless and watery. The Pork Stew was unbelievably bland. No discernible flavor whatsoever. The Pasta in the cream sauce was decent at best. The caramelized onions were the best part of the dish. The Corned Beef was incredibly overcooked, but at least it wasn't fatty. The horseradish was flavorful with a little bite to it. The best things were the boiled carrots and the muffins, both of which are fairly hard to mess up. If you're a fan of unique eating experiences, especially ones geared toward history, you should try this place. If you don't care about all the extras and just want some good food after a long day of exploring Greenfield Village, do not come here. The food is bad and the prices are high. I had the Whitefish with red potatoes, and both were unseasoned and flavorless. Unsatisfied with my own meal, I sampled my family's food. You'd think you can't go wrong with a plate of mixed meats and cheeses, but that too was gross. The turkey tasted like it had been soaking in a brine of dirty socks. The beef steak was too chewy. All of their main dishes are priced between $15.95-$21.50, too high for the small portions and bad flavors. Other downsides: We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food from the time we ordered. We were a large party, but still...is that a normal wait time? Also, it was about 65 degrees outside and about 55 degrees inside. Almost everyone at our table wore their coat or wished they had one. I guess that's part of the 1850 no-heating-system dining experience. The wait staff was incredibly helpful and knew the menu very well. Our waitress was super friendly but seemed a little slow on service. The men waiters (although they mostly just cleared tables and filled water) seemed to be very low energy and did not want to interact with us at all. The food tasted excellent. However, I think the ham and eggs would have been better had the egg not been fully cooked. The pasta also tasted fine but the amount of pasta left me hungry for more. This was post Covid, if it wasn't they sure didn't adhere to any Covid health standard. The wait staff was pretty slow, had to use our phones flashlights to read the menus, to see our food, and the waiter brought over a candle half way through the meal because he couldn't tell which pitcher had lemonade in it, neither one did the waiter served water for lemonade three times after taking the pitcher back to the bar tender, he told us the lemonade machine in the basement wouldn't dispense the lemonade powder to make the lemonade, Huh??? The food portions were small for the price, the food was not at all what we thought it should be for the hype, salt clumps in the sauce on the chicken. Went there after a wonderful day walking at Greenfield Village with a hearty appetite. We ordered an appetizer and some hearty old-style recipe dinners. First, the server was downright unpleasant and nasty. When he did show up at the table, he was snippy and made rude comments about my companion. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me I couldn't. I went and found the manager myself and the manager was unapologetic. I went so far as to contact The Henry Ford's staff about it, as we've been members for years, but saw no evidence that anyone cares. The food was plentiful and served quickly, but it was a bit bland - nothing to warrant a return trip. But a peek inside the kitchen was scary - it looked like one of the nasty horror stories from Restaurant Impossible. I have serious qualms about their cleanliness. I would steer clear of this place at all costs - there is a cafeteria style place next door that seems a bit more sterile, has better selection, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby on Michigan Avenue if you can wait until your day at the Village is complete. read more

One of the highlights of the Halloween season is the chance to have a festive meal at Eagle Tavern. By reserve ticket only, the event quickly sells out. Dinner takes place in the 1850's ambiance of old wooden floors, tables and chairs, and candlelit chandeliers. You sit at a common table but since we had seven in our party we filled the table. Tea, water, and coffee are provided. Drinks are at the bar and you have to get them yourself. We had a Leelanau Cellars Late Harvest Zinfandel and mulled cider. Dinner was served family style and consisted of stuffed pumpkin, beef stew, baked chicken breasts, and sausage links. Sides were squash chutney, corn relish, etc. A large bread bowl was passed around with cranberry muffins, dinner rolls, and corn bread. Dessert was pumpkin cake with frosting. Coffee was plentiful and the service was excellent. A strolling violinist played tunes from the period. In the parlor were harvest games if you wanted to take a break from the food. It's ok. I really enjoyed my meal on the previous 2 visits, but this time was lackluster. I ordered the duck with green peppercorn sauce...the sauce was flavorless and the duck was over cooked...they certainly give ample portions however .... Way too big a serving of duck...
