We showed up at our appointment and it was the worst experience of my entire life. The staff in general was okay. I do not blame the receptionist and I thought the first tech was polite. After that, everything went downhill. We contacted Bethalto Animal Clinic simply to get our yearly exam and get my Dog's vaccines up to date, was we recently moved from Jacksonville, Florida to the Bethalto area. First off, the services were anything but affordable. It was over $200 for a simple exam and 2 vaccines, one of which was an oral vaccine. When I had originally scheduled the appointment, I ensured to ask if I would be allowed to be with my dog during the exam and throughout the process, as he doesn't know people at Bethalto Animal Clinic yet and neither do I. I was told yes and that the only things I would not be present for, was blood draws and if he ever needed x-rays. When we went to the back room with our dog, the tech was kind and was asking us of our concerns. Not once did she try to get to know Wilbur (our dog) and not once did she try to get him comfortable. We brought his treats with us to help him adjust a little easier and they were not used. Once she was done talking to us, she informed us that she would need to do a blood draw for one of the annual tests and we said okay. She took him back. When I tell you my dog screamed, I mean he absolutely screamed. Not once have we EVER heard him scream like that. We have been to multiple vets, and never has he been nervous or scared like he was there. They come back 20 minutes later only to tell us that everything was done. The Vet brought him in (who I have never met) and did not tell us how the exam was, discuss any issues we had, address a single concern, absolutely nothing. We paid over $200 to listen to my dog scream and I cannot tell you how disgusted I am, not only with myself for bringing him there, but for this clinic to treat my dog the way they did. We weren't even introduced to the Vet or anything. I felt talked down to when trying to discuss a potential food allergy (diagnosed by my precious 5 star vet) and it was the saddest experience of my life. I cannot describe to you the feelings I have. I will not bring a single living being to this facility ever again, and I will continue to inform everyone in my circle about the horrific treatment of my dog. This facility should be disgusted with themselves. My dog is a member of my family. For you to treat him like a number is unacceptable.

I would not recommend using this office/boarding. We have used this office since our dog was a…read morepuppy. I always felt they were overpriced but it was convenient. We were moderately happy until recently. Our dog boarded for about 10 days with a grooming at pick up. In the time she was there her tail became so matted that they had to shave it bare during grooming. After bringing her home we notices she was acting off. She was taking longer to urinate and had started coughing / clearing her throat. We put it off to stress from boarding but it progressed over night. I called the next day worried about a uti because she had an accident in the house ( this never happens) and it smelled bad and the urine was red tinted in color. Her cough was becoming worse. I talked to the office made an appointment and questioned if any one had notices her straining to pee and coughing while boarding. I was told they had amazing kennel staff and nothing was noticed. So this must have all happened as she walked out the door? At the appointment the dr had no pet side manners and seemed as if it was a bother for us to be there. I asked if there would be an office charge since all this started or stemmed from their facility. I was told yes there would be and this just happens with boarding but they don't have kennel cough there. Also her uti wasn't bad at all. Yet we walked out with a cough medicine and 2 antibiotics since she wasn't really that sick. The total was nearly $350 after the 340 for her stay cause if all of the issues. My husband paid and took our dog home. I had to call back and question the cost of $193 for 8.5mls azithromycin. Only then were we told by the front they thought that didn't look right when we check out but they didn't question it. Come to find out we were over charged $165 for the medicine which we have to wait for a check to reimburse since they couldn't fix the credit card purchase. I have requested my records and I'm looking for a new vet, boarding, and grooming. I'm not going back would not recommend.

On top of dealing with the awful customer service they over charge on every thing. Then when you try to transfer your dogs records out or try to get a written script to buy food elsewhere they make sure to make it as difficult as possible for you to do so. They also charge you just to get a written script from them to go elsewhere. Awful place, plenty of other options to go to.

Disorganized, dishonest about pricing, & nearly cost me my international flight!…read more I used Rosewood Pet Hospital and Dr. Rachel McPheters, DVM to handle my dog's paperwork for an international move to Thailand. I paid upfront $320 as an all-inclusive fee covering vaccinations, the USDA health certificate, and all associated paperwork. I confirmed this multiple times. What followed was months of disorganization that nearly derailed my entire trip. It took four attempts over three weeks to produce a usable vaccination letter. I provided the clinic with the full requirements from the Thai Department of Livestock Development upfront. Despite that, the first document was a patient chart printout with no letterhead, no signature, no microchip number -- and the second was sent as a smudged photo, not a proper scanned document [see attached]. Each subsequent version still had missing information. They had to revise the letter twice on the same day because they kept making mistakes. These delays compressed my Thai government approval window to just a few weeks before departure. The health exam was poorly coordinated. We scheduled the USDA exam about eight days before my flight -- tight, since the certificate is only valid for 10 days. On exam day, the staff member handling my case wasn't there. I waited 45 minutes for her to arrive. The USDA application still wasn't submitted until 3:00 PM the next day. Then came the surprise charges. After paying $320 for what was represented as all-inclusive, I was told at the final stage I owed an additional $130 for USDA processing and expedited shipping. They claimed there was "no way to know" these fees until submission -- these are standard, published fees. After 30 minutes of pushback, they waived half the processing fee but held firm on shipping. Then they selected UPS 2nd-day air instead of Next-day air, eliminating any reliable on-time delivery. I even tried promoting the shipping to Next-day air, but Rosewood was unreachable, and only they could promote the shipping label since they ordered it. The result was a near-disaster. Because my dog's transport required no more than two flight legs, I had to rent a car and drive from central Illinois to Chicago to catch my flight. The USDA certificate arrived just minutes before I had to leave -- I had to coordinate directly with UPS to intercept the delivery because the timeline was that razor-thin. I had to drive to UPS package hubs directly for "package interception" which is not a service they offer! The stress made me physically ill the morning of departure with a sore throat and cough that followed me through the entire trip to Thailand. None of this should have been my problem to solve. For context, the Thai Department of Livestock Development -- a foreign government agency -- was easier and more responsive to work with than this clinic. I would not trust Rosewood Pet Hospital with any time-sensitive or international paperwork. The experience was disorganized from start to finish, the pricing was misrepresented, and there was zero accountability of wrongdoing from these "professionals."
